Blue Jays vs. Rays Game Highlights (9/15/25) | MLB Highlights
Sat down with his agents prior to this season. They told him as an advanced college arm. There is a possibility that you can move through this system rather quickly and maybe even make it to the big leagues by the end of your first professional season. And Trey just shook his head. He didn’t believe them tonight. The unbelievable is going to happen for Trey Savage as he becomes just the second pitcher from last year’s draft class to reach the majors after Cincinnati’s chase burns and look, they want the best 14 pitchers in the organization on their roster today. And that is why Trey is here taking the mound tonight for the Tampa Bay Rays is going to be right hander, Joe Boyle strikes the 1st 98 and he could not catch up. George Springer has been hammering the fastball this year pitch to right center for a solid base hit. We mentioned, Nathan told me the other day, he’s feeling as good as he has at any point in the season. Guerrero Jr, here’s a swing and a chopper to second played back on by Lou to Williams one, the throw to first two, double play a 46 to 3 double play hit by Guerrero and Joe Boyle has a relatively quiet first. Let’s see what Trey Savage has in store for everybody here in his major league debut. This is a pretty special opportunity for Trey Savage. He turned 22 in July. He found out Saturday, he was getting called up, he found out Sunday, he was starting this game day. Cheryl Brothers Cole and she’s girlfriend Taylor all here at the ballpark tonight. And that hits the mound and centerfield Chandler is a and the Rays put the speed here is Yandy Diaz and we’ll watch Simpson at first being held on by Vlad guerrero up the right side and a fair ball into the corner of hitting third and the lead one. Simpson scores from first on a double by Dia and Andy Diaz, a very good hitter and he’s a very good breaking ball hitter when he has two strikes. He likes the ball away from him and they look like they went with the slider and that’s the speed of Simpson. He’s gonna score easily that ball. He calls it a gyro slider comes right back with it and he strikes out on three pitches for the baseball. He’s going to have an authenticated because that’s the first big, big strikeout for Savage and they’ll send it over to the authenticator and Then probably return it to the Savage after the game, a special moment for him and hopefully the first of many, these guys are looking around like what are we supposed to do with this guys? There we go. That’s the guy we want to have the baseball and the high arm angle creates a dramatic angle for hitters to make any contact that his family celebrates the first big league strike. And it gets a heck of a hitter in brandon LA and a walk puts up runners at 1st and 2nd round over the mound. A good play to get for out number two as the runners advance so much for the concerned about the shortstop and Jimenez has played shortstop in his career and he makes a heck of a play right here grounded right to Jimenez at short and that he throw on the first just in time to get the hustling and gives up just the one, the rays leave 2nd and 3rd , but they also score first. We’re done with one out when you’re at this part in the order and you’re Tres making your big league debut, you have to pound the strike zone, get ahead early. And that time he got him to chase it again to the split Heineman down to first to complete the out two down. The key for him just like with Kevin Gossman is you throw enough strikes with your other pitches. They got to chase that splitter when it comes out of your hand and he got him fastball on the corner for strike 3123 inning for your with a pair of punch outs to keep it one to raise. The 31 is high and that is ball four. Diaz is a double and a walk. Second walk allowed by you Savage. He did walk his fair share even at the minor league level got him with the splitter again. The second time tonight, he strikes out brandon Lau. That was a very good splitter. I learned the way Heineman is accentuating the target and he got him strike three. Swinging. Savage punches out CBA on his slider. He’s punched out five in his first three major league innings. So the tying run, third hit for Toronto, they’ve had a base runner every inning so far and the pitch is going to miss good slider on the hands for strike three and it was right on the inside edge too. So Boyle is doing a better job controlling the running game and he also earns his fourth strikeout of the pitch is grounded right to second easy play for he bobbles underhand to first and just in time to be able to get in the fourth inning. So Boyle puts up a zero. He allows just a hit. That’s it. First two batters of the game tonight for the race. Simpson singled. Diaz doubled. It was one to 02 batters in before you Savage had gotten an out. They don’t have a hit since he has walked two but he has struck out five and all of the other outs have been ground balls to short and another strikeout. And you can see why the strikeout numbers in the minor leagues were so unbelievably high for you. Savage. He’s thrown everything for strikes, striking left and right. That’s four in a row and seven now, buck through three and two thirds, he’s done it with his splitter. Predominantly savage punches out the side to strikeouts in four innings of one run ball. Still 1 to 0 rays going to the fifth two, fly outs to center to start the inning two down and the bases empty. Second out swinging on a pitch in the dirt. He gets Simpson blocked by. Heineman goes inside the line and throws from fair territory. Guerrero to end the inning nine K’s in five innings, a one run ball for Trey Savage, two men down and that will leave it for Guerrero Jr, a swing and a broken bat roller back to Boyle. He’s got, it loves the first off the back. Diaz Then finds it. Guerrero was not hustling and that play goes 1 to 3 to retire the Toronto Blue Jays and Joe Boyle, if he’s done went 63 hit shutout frame. Trey Savage is back on the mound to at least begin the out of the 668 pitches. Yandy Diaz, the batter scorches one up the middle. He got a first pitch fastball for a base hit and Diaz has now been on base all three times and looks like john is going to make a move. He’s walking out there very slowly and deliberately and that’s often the sign he calls for the lefty. What a debut for Tres a terrific outing a franchise record, nine strikeouts in his league debut. And boy has he given the front office and the coaching staff a lot to think about and a lot to be excited about in the weeks ahead. Now, the rays need a two out hit lefty on lefty to extend their lead to second short hop by Clement and on to first for the third out as Brendan little strands that runner new pitcher into the game. Brian Baker starts off. Ernie Clement with a strike to begin the top of the eighth. Ernie Clement will lead it off. He hooks one down the left field line and that’s a fair ball. Clementi on his way to second with his 31st double of the season here. I mean, this is right on the eighth inning. They’re down by a run. Ernie gets the leadoff double here and he pushes it to third. It’s a good one. It’s a very good one and it does indeed advance to Clement Clement to third. A nice sacrifice bunt there by Tyler Heineman. You have andres Jimenez coming to the plate. Anything really will score Ernie Clement fly ball to left field. Is it deep enough coming in makes the catch. Here comes Clement and he’s hit of the game. Jimenez and it’s one of execution. It’s a stolen base for man. And sometimes you have to roll the dice base hit, might win it for the Rays. Tie that one and both teams failing to score with the go Schreiner two balls, one strength and count to Jimenez back to back to sink off the bat. Like trouble puts it away for out number two runner on second two down 1 to 1 top of the 11th. Springer back to the plate. 0 to 2 count and on the go ahead run time and time again has come up with hits. You have runners at 1st and 3rd with nobody out in the inning. A tough spot for Braden Fisher. Fly ball ties the game chase a high fastball one down. That’s 16 strikeouts for the Blue Jays tonight. Strike three with 95 back to back punch outs in the Blue Jays are one out away and Fisher with an unbelievable job here in extra innings. Two scoreless innings. What a major league debut for Trey Savage. The Blue Jays find a way to win this game.
