🔴LIVE 🔴Los Angeles Angels vs Milwaukee Brewers /September 16/ Baseball Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

All right, just about ready for baseball. And on the hill, a soft tossing lefty just like you, Chris. Jose Kintana, but Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this, every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark, in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Mike Trout, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And another ball. Foul ball there. Slapped foul. Foul ball. Another 2- two upcoming. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. stays alive and it remains two and two. And a swing and a miss. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. It’s a strike out, but they’ll be in good shape if they make their outs as difficult as that one. Those grinding abs take a toll on a pitcher as the game goes on. And now Yan Mona. That’s down and in. One and0. One out. Base is empty. Ball outside. He swings and fouls one off. And here comes it on the ground to short. Chorio. Zips it to first. Two up, two down. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup. Singing the numbers tell us this is an offense designed to swing it. They’re not going to force a ton of action on the bases. And so obviously that is one of the focal points that we’ll look at. And you look at the quality of the at bats because of the fact that the legs aren’t a part of this game. They have to be very selective. Look for long pitch counts, grinding out at bats, and really barrels to the baseball because it’s a lot easier to jog around the bases than for these players to sprint. Taylor Ward in the box now. No balls in a strike. Just missed. Two out. Ace is empty. Next pitch is outside. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. And that’s ball four. Boo. If I were him, I’d be nibbling around the plate as well. I mean, this guy’s just capable of hitting pitches outside of the zone and driving them a long way. So, a man at first. And next for the Angels, Joe Adell misses again. Five in a row. Now one and one and downstairs. Yeah, the two-1 hammered but foul. First inning going a bit long. 23 pitches to this point. Chopper right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Angels strand one and now the Brewers will get their first cuts. No score. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here with my pal Singi getting the nod in this one. Kyle Hendris. And Chris pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Up the middle, a dive. Nice stop. Not in time. He’s safe. Wow. Well, he did everything he could on that play with the throw from his knee, but the hustle down the line was enough to earn him the infield knock. And that’s a great baseball play all the way around. Next for Milwaukee, Jackson Chorio. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. First pitch misses. One out. Come on, let’s keep it going. Next offering is fouled back. This is one of those situations defensively where you can’t try to do too much. You got to make sure that you field the ball cleanly and get one out first. It’s going to be tough to get two with this kind of speed in the batters box. Freelick gets his lead at first with nobody out. Milwaukee [Music] on the ground. Could be two. Good feed. That’s one. And that’s all they’ll get. Batting third, center fielder, Christian. And now it’ll be Christian Yelich. Christian, bounce to the right. Over to second for one. Return throw to first. Got him. Double play and that’ll do it. We move to the second in Milwaukee. No score. Top of the second. And now the rookie second baseman Christian Moore. Christian Moore. Moore in his rookie season hitting fifth in today’s lineup. a former first round pick in 2024. Downing ball here. Rolls fouled. Next offering is in for a strike. Time to check on our umpires. Earl Hrix calling balls and strikes. Yeah, well-liked umpire Boo. Pretty consistent with his zone. So, if you’re familiar with him and how he works, you won’t get too surprised by anything. Sometimes he’ll give a little bit off the corner, but nothing too crazy at all. swing and a ground ball out to short. The throw to first. Going up, one down. Oh, we talked about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. So, digging in, Luis Rangifo singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. ribs one to right. Freelick brings it in. That’s out number two. [Applause] Batting seventh short stop number 21. Two outs. Base is empty. Now it’s the shortstop. Come on. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. Second inning here. No score. Slice down the right side. Going to count one and two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. And there’s a ball. Really good take, especially with two strikes, ripped on a line, and puts the squeeze on that one. And that is that. Angels go quietly there. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Bottom of the second up now for Milwaukee. Isaac Collins singing. You gotta appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. And the first pitch misses for ball one. So, how much does his speed factor into his ability to go get it? It’s heartbreaking for the hitter because off the bat he thinks this ball’s going to get down. because of that speed and the ability to make up so much ground, he enters the picture and breaks a guy’s heart. And a foul ball. There’s one guy that I can think about, Boo, who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial gold glover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. But he’s a guy when you watch him play, you would imagine that that’s all he ever played in his life was the outfield. It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. So, an infield single does the job right. Runner takes off. Cut on and miss. And that’s a stolen base. Not even close. You know what? I like the aggressiveness right there. It looks like it’s going to be tough to score in this one. Really good pitching so far. So, why not try to put some pressure on them and see if you can steal the bag, get in the scoring position. man at second and there’s a rocket into the outfield coming home. He’ll score easily safely into second. He’s got a double. Oh, that was a great job of letting that runner steal second base. Get in the scoring position. Come through with the base knock. You add a run. Here’s the rookie third baseman. And that drops in for a strike. Go. Little bit low. One on, nobody out. A run in. Bottom half of inning number two. [Applause] On the ground right side, throws to first. That’s one out in the bottom of the second. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. It’s early, but you still want to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score. That’s exactly what happened. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. Jake Bowers batting with one down, takes a strike. Hendrickx steals, hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. Come on now. Now it’s Jansen to hit. Just missed. [Applause] Two outs with a runner at third. All right, Brewers. Milwaukee. The one-1 is fouled off. Come on, Brewers. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. [Applause] And down on strikes he goes. They limit the damage here. Brewers pick up a run on this RBI double. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And we’re back. Top half of the third inning. And here’s the catcher number 38. Kintana back to work. Fought off. Foul. Fair ball around first heading for two. Throws to second. It’s a leadoff double to start the third. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field. And it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. Runner in scoring position. No outs. And here’s the rookie center fielder. Check swing. No appeal. Here [Music] we go. That one missed. Next offering misses and it’s three and0. Runner at second. Nobody out. That one’s in there. And it’s three and one. Come on. That one found hard the other way. Got him looking. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strikeout. And there’s one away. Felt definitely a borderline pitch right there. And he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout. You know, those are tough ones to let go as a hitter, but with a human umpire calling balls and strikes, it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes. Back to the top of the Angels lineup. Mike Trout the next to hit for the Angels. And that’s in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Trout would reach 400 career homers with one more long ball. Well, if Well, let me say when he hits number 400, that’s really special. Not even 70 players in MLB history have done it. Al Kaline didn’t. Neither did Joe Deaggio, Larry Walker, Jim Rice, Orlando Sepa, or Tony Perez. And all of those guys are Hall of Fame sluggers. That’s a ball. Two-1. That misses off the outside edge. Just doesn’t seem to want to throw him a fast ball. Way out front for strike two. One out. a runner at second. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field. Brings it in with a nice running grab. Two down. Those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Yan Monata with a chance to hit. He’s 0 for one. It’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate. It’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed in the dirt but kept close. Two outs and one in scoring position. Brewers late with the swing there. One ball. That’s down. This one chopped on the ground but foul. That’s inside. Three and two now. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Man on second, two down, and a swing and a miss. That K is his third of the game. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. Set for the bottom of the third. And now the first baseman, Andrew Monasterio. Andrew Manerio and the first offering a fast ball for a strike. There’s the swing and a miss. And he really sells the change up with that arm action. Now a screamer into the outfield. Ward makes the catch and there’s one gone. Not fooled at all right there. He was clearly all over it. But sometimes you hit it too hard and right at someone. You’re looking for one of those bloop hits to get a knock sometimes. Back to the top of the lineup next for the Brewers. S Freelick reached on an infield single his first time. And that’s in there for strike one. on the ground right side and it goes just foul on the ground to the left. Slings it across and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Good sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for. Ball on the ground. Nice ground out. Two down, base is empty. And the batter now Jackson Chorio 0 for one. He hit into a fielder’s choice his first time. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Next offering is in for a strike. Foul ball, but a shorts stop takes a ball. Still two and two after the foul ball. Hendrickx delivers and they’ll do it again. Now it’s three and two. Wow, this guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. This one popped up. Mona, pulls it down and he makes the catch and that ends the inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. On to inning number four. It’s the Brewers one and the Angels nothing. Back here in Milwaukee, John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Taylor Ward. Come on, Brewers. Check. Swing. Went around and that’s strike one. Ball one there. Sliced hard but fouled. Here’s a one, two. fouls it back with two strikes. Next pitch misses. Two and two. [Music] And that’s downed away. Expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball. something in the zone because he does not want to allow the laid-off walk. Got him. He’s notched four strikeouts now. This guy will throw any pitch in any count. 3-2. He goes off speed, gets the out. Here’s [Applause] Joe Adele. Grounded out. His first time up. That pitch gets the inside corner. That’s strike one. And that’s hammered into right field. That’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy, didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep, took the barrel right to it, and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. Man at first with one gone. Now it’s the second baseman Christian Moore. Tap foul at the plate. Tying run is at first. Top half of inning number four. That’s a laser base hit. Quick throw back in. Lead runner holds it second with one gone. Back to back singles. I don’t know how he was able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. Two on, one out. Now it’s the DH Luis Rangifo. He’s 0 for one. First pitch just misses. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Runners at first and second with one gone. That misses and it’s 2 and 0. Let’s do this. And fouled off [Applause] outside low now. Three and one. Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count, be ready to turn on a fast ball. Swings through that one for strike two. Generally, second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. Ground ball left side and it finds its way through for a hit. Around from second is the tying run and it’s an RBI single. It’s 1-1. Well, he gets it done in a big spot to get the run across. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Go ahead run on base. Here’s the short stop at the plate. 0 for one so far. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Music] Two on, one out. And that one fouled off. Come on, punch him out. Fly ball down the line. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s two away. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. That one sizzling on its way through to the outfield. Moore headed for the plate. He’ll score and the Angels take the lead. Yell hurries it back in. Runner holds it third. So just one across on the play. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it, man. Sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. So, two down. Here’s the center fielder. Yeah, don’t need much damage here. Just a base hit. Likely will score two. Turned on, but that’s fouled down the third baseline. And that misses and it’s one and one. Just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike 02 count instead. It’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. Next offering is in for a strike. Activity in the bullpen. Quinn Prester, the right-handed sinker baller. He looks to be readying himself. Miserowski warming up as well. Two on, two outs. [Applause] Two on, two outs. Outside [Applause] spoils that one and it remains two and two. Two outs, two in scoring position. Next offering is down low. That’s a really good take. Mike Trout up next for the Angels. 3-2. He goes down looking, but two runs for him and they jump ahead on now to the bottom of the fourth. Angels two and the Brewers one. Ready to go. Bottom four. And now the center fielder Christian Yelich. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. And there’s a hit. So a runner aboard to start the inning. I’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count. Too good of a pitch to hit right there. You have to expand the zone. Keep that leadoff man off first base. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Isaac Collins. A single and a run scored and a walk way high. Yell on at first. Nobody out. Hit on the ground. Might be two. Off balance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Oh, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. This is Bryce Terra. Doubled his first time. [Applause] Swing and a chopper out to short into the outfield. Base hit. The throw to third. The tag and he’s out. As a base runner right there, you’re making the call yourself. This ball is clearly in front of you and you got to know for sure if you’re going to be able to make it safely to third. That time he was wrong as a really nice throw came into third. Now the third baseman grounded out his first time and there’s a ball. One ball. No strike. Milwaukee the 10 back to the mound. He’s got it. Get tosses to first and that’s the inning. Brewers strand one. They’re down two to one. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Quinn Prester coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Here’s Mike Trout. There’s something pretty special about a player hitting 400 career home runs. He’s one shy of that mark right here. So this could be an historic at bat. Quinn. And that one fouled off. Prester goes 6 feet 3 in. He features a sinker, a slider, a cutter, a curve, and he works in a change up swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. That one outside. It’s a ball in two strikes. Cut out and miss. Curve ball struck him out. That’s a pretty nasty pitch right there. I’d call it a power curve ball in the 80s. It’s got so much spin on it and you really don’t have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it’s going to do before you have to commit. It was a good one for the swinging strikeout. Here is Yoan Monata. Bowl for two in this one. That one is absolutely belted back there. Unbelievable. Onto the track and he makes the catch. Now batting leftielder. Two out. Space is empty. And next for LA, Taylor Ward. A strike out and a walk. Come on. Swing and a liner. Foul off to the right. And that one is inside. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. All right, let’s win. Next offering is in for a strike. All sliders so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. And that skips in the dirt. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Makes the catch and over. Bottom of the inning. Now here’s Jake Bowers. Desated hitter Jake Bowers. [Music] Drilled in the air high and deep right field. That’s back. Pulls it in on the warning track. [Applause] Now batting catcher Danny Jans. Danny Jansen a hit here. Went down on strikes his first time through. Milwaukee. That one hooked. Foul. Base is empty. One away. Last half of inning number five. Just missed. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. You got this. Milwaukee fights that one away. Still one and two. [Music] fights it off. He’ll see another. Well, he hasn’t gotten the result yet, but it’s got to feel pretty confident. Three foul balls in a row. He’s right on this guy. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Moving under this one. Squeezes it and there’s two away. Now batting first baseman Andrew. And here’s the first baseman, Andrew Monasterio. Brewer. Come on, Milwaukee. First offering and it just misses. Swings through that one for strike one. I think he was sitting off speed there. Just off the outside edge. Now two balls in a strike. Just missed. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. That’s hard hit on the line and it gets by him. Makes the turn and heads for second and he’ll make it to second base with two gone. Nice double right there. Loud contact coming off the bat. Didn’t get enough air under it to drive it out of here, but you’ll take that swing and that result every time. [Applause] back to the top of the Milwaukee order. S Freelick up now for the Brewers. One for two. [Applause] That one finds the zone. Strike one. Two outs up the middle. Sizzling on its way to the outfield. The throw home. It’s offline and he scores. It’s 22. Well, here we are. Third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump up. manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Two outs, runner on first. Jackson Chorio up now for the Brewers. And takes low for ball one. Freelick off of first with two away. Let’s go Brewers. Next offering is fouled back. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. The shorts stop takes the ball. Hendrickx throws over. [Applause] You can go. That’s way outside. And that’s ball three. 3-2. Two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch and a foul ball. He stays alive. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. We’re through five. We are tied 2-2. New inning getting started. Here’s a big power threat. Joe Adele. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. Right through there for a strike. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Tobias Meyers, the young right-hander up and throwing. Fetty also getting ready. Let’s go. That one inside and the count even. One and one. The 1-1 is fouled off. Next offering is outside. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. Swing and he breaks his bat on to first. One up, one down. Well, as a hitter, it can be kind of tough. You get a hard throwing reliever that comes in the ball game. You don’t know exactly what his pitches are doing. And that clearly blew him up on the hand. Saw off that bat. Tell you what, the bat companies, they’re pretty happy when guys like this come in out of the bullpit. Moore the next to hit takes outside. And that drops in for a strike. One outside. Two and one. That one missing inside. And that wasn’t even close. Ball four. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted him first base with a quick free pass. So now the DH spot. Luis Reano. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. [Applause] outside low and now it’s even one and one. Way to lay off that pitch down. Runner takes off and that is out of play. Breaking ball inside and it’s two and two with two strikes. may see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Swing and a highf fly ball in the air left field. He’s got it. Two down. Now batting number 21. And the batter will be the shortstop. Let’s go. And that’s in for a strike. Milwaukee. Missing inside and one and one with a go ahead run at first. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. right side hard hit. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So it’s no runs, no base hits, no errors and one left on base. Hard of the order 345 coming up. We are tied 2-2. Bottom of the six now. It’s Christian Yelich. All right, Brewers. Hris back to work. And that’s outside. Activity in the bullpen for the Angels. Luis Garcia, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Stevenson getting loose as well. And that misses now two and 0. And another ball. Next offering is in for a strike. 3-1. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Now, the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Kyle Hris departs and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. So, the Angels turn to their bullpen for a new pitcher, Jose Soraniano. He’s been so good against lefties. Isaac Collins now at the plate. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Pitch misses there and it’s one and0. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Hard liner. Looks like extra bases. Around second is Yelich. Around third, he’ll score. Picks himself up an RBI. I’ll tell you, when you smoke a line drive into the gap like that, I mean, sure, home runs are king, but I feel like nothing makes you feel like a true professional hitter more than a bolt the other way. Runner in scoring position, no outs. And now here is Bryce Terra swing and that’s ripped towards right center. Adele makes the catch. Grounder tags at second and he makes it up to third with one away. Now batting third base. Here’s the third baseman has grounded out a couple of times. He was late there. Strike one. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. That one fouled off. Collins stands at third with one gone in the inning. And a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Toughest pitch to hit. Fast ball on the outer black. Man, sometimes you just got to tip your cap. Here’s the Brewers DH, Jake Bowers. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. That’s down in the dirt. And an excellent job keeping it right there. That’s inside. And that one wrapped foul. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. Next one misses. Three and one. Danny Jansen in the Milwaukee on deck circle. That one ripped right center field going back. Makes the catch on the edge of the track. Runscoring double for the Brewers this inning. It’s now a 32 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Tobias Meyers. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Well, one-run game. Here’s the catcher. Number 38. There’s the strike. [Applause] misses outside. One and one in there for a strike at the top of the zone. just off the outside corner. And now two balls and two strikes. [Music] This to third, zips it across and the lead off hitter set down to open the seventh. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. Number 22, the next to hit takes ball one. And that one sliced fouled. Trying to hold a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven. On the ground right side and he handles it himself for the out. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff. Just like we saw. Here’s Trout. And a major milestone is right around the corner. One home run short of 400 for his career. Brewers. That one catches the zone. Going one. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating. Next offering is fouled back. looking to get the tying run on base. Swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. Angels held in check. They’re down three to2. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Here’s the Brewers catcher now. Danny Jansen. Fast for a strike. One. Well, these Brewers digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They’ve hit seven line drives already, and even though some of them have been for outs, there’s nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact. That’s almost always going to lead to positive results. Swing and a miss. That’s strike two. Swings and misses. Struck him out. It’s a good breaking ball there just off the corner where you can’t really do much damage, but it’s close enough to where you got to protect and he just couldn’t find a way to fight it off. Andrew Monasterio up now for the Brewers. Monasterio swinging it much better this season in away games and here at home. Brewers. And first off is fouled off. One down. Base is empty. Just missed way inside. Gets out of the way. That’s outside. Base is empty. One away here. The bottom of the seventh. Here we go. Milwaukee. Out to short. Fires over to first. Two up, two down. Now batting right fielder Sel. So two down now and here is Sal Freelick. Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. To third to first and it’s a one, two, three inning. Nobody left for Milwaukee, but they’re up three to two. We’re in the top of the eighth. So in for the Angels, Yawan Monata. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. ripped but a curls foul. So glad these ballparks have installed the netting to protect the fans, keep things safer all around the league. And a 1-1 and that’s in the dirt. Action in the pen down there. Abner, the closer of the staff, is getting loose to finish this one off. Fetty getting cranked up as well. [Music] This one chopped on the ground but foul. That’s down and in. Taylor Ward in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And the tying run is on base. Oh, looking for a swing anding miss right there or for the ump to help him out and make a call with that last pitch, but neither happened. Close pitch, but a good take to earn that wall. Substitution now at first base. And here’s the pinch runner. Oswalt PZA Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels. Lots of pop at the plate. Outfield playing back almost on the warning track. Swing and a tapper that rolls foul. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. [Applause] Got him. And now one away. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. And now it’s the Angels cleanup batter Joe Adele. One for three. Down and away for ball one. And that one is in for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Swinging a miss at a slider. clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes the other way down the line and it’s foul. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Just off the outside edge and it’s two and two. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. [Applause] it back coming up. Move to first. PZA back in on a dive. He’s got plus speed, but in this situation, all eyes are going to be over there trying to keep his lead tight. [Music] And it remains two and two. [Music] spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another strike three and that’s two in to a row. Well, that right there is just a pitcher’s pitch. Tailing away from the hitter, lowing away with some good action at the end. You know, even if he gets the bat to that ball, it’s probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side. I tell you what, that’s a tremendous two- strike pitch. There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Tobias Meyers gives way and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. [Applause] So, the closer summon from the bullpen, Abner. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. You got this Milwaukee fought off foul. That’s a big run over there at first base. He’s got some speed. Let’s see if they send him. Next offering is downstairs. And a big swing and a miss. Just a really nice slider down and in there. He wants to get the hitter thinking fast ball. Speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement. Ripped on the ground is second. Terra over to first in time. Third out and that ends the frame. Angels leave one and it’s still a 32 ball game. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Luis Garcia. And he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Well, one-run game. And now the shorts stop. Jackson Torio 0 for three in this one. There’s the strike. Garcia, a 6’2 righty, 240 lbs, and he was born in the Dominican Republic. Pitch misses, and that’s ball one. in the air fairly deep to right field. Adele snags it and there’s one down. Now batting center fielder Yelli stepping into the box now Milwaukee that’s in there and it’s 0 and one action in the Angels bullpen. Rock Burke the left-hander up and throwing. Let’s go Brewers. Next pitch is downstairs. One down. Base is empty. Two and one. [Applause] swinging a drive deep right field and that’s a foul ball. That one missed. and a base hit. [Applause] So, Singi, let’s dive into the numbers courtesy of Stackcast. Do you even feel contact being made when you hit a ball that hard? No, I don’t think so, Boo. I mean, that’s just the best feeling in the world as a hitter. You square it up perfectly and it’s like you didn’t even swing the bat. And there are times the ball feels heavy off your bat, you know it. But this is not one of those cases. He sent this one flying 114 m hour. So that’s flexing your muscles a little bit. Next to hit, Isaac Collins, and the first pitch misses for ball one. Runner on the go. Strike in there. Throw to second. Tag out at second. Man, I see him trying to be aggressive right there late in this ball game. Try to add on to that lead. You know, I really like the thought, but it just didn’t work out that time. Nice job by the defense right there to keep things right where they are in terms of the score. Next offering is down low. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. And a foul ball. Struck him out looking. Brewers go down quietly and it remains a 3-2 ball game. back here at American Family Field. And now the DH Luis Rango. Highf fly ball out towards left field. Going back on this one onto the track and he makes the catch. He was all over that first pitch fast ball. Just barely missed it. Man, this guy was ready to hit. Angels making a move for a pinch hitter. Zack Neto. He comes to the plate in a huge spot in this one. [Music] Outside corner. There’s the strike. [Applause] to the right side. Terra and they’re down to their last out. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Here’s the Angels catcher. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. Come on. That catches the top part of the zone. That’s strike one. Well, so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup. Aribe is just one strike away outside low and that is ball one. That one is upstairs. Battling here as he fouls it away. Finish him. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. And the tying run is on base. That’s tremendous fight from him and I know it’s got the dugout fired up down there down to the last strike and he comes up with a hit to keep the game alive. It ain’t over yet. Here’s the center fielder 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. And a breaking ball misses outside. Well, with the tying run at first base, he’s looking for something he can get a lot of barrel on. drive it into a gap and score that run from first base. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. Last couple of pitches. Breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. That misses and now three and 0. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. That’s in there. Three balls and a strike. Right now, they’re looking for something. Hit hard into the gaps. Give them an opportunity with two outs to score that run from first. They’re down to their final strike. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Dust foul. That was close. He fouls it off. Will do it again. Sit him down. Stays alive. him out. Got him. And that’s the ball game. Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch. A 32 final score in this one. They hang on to win it by a run for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
