J.T. Miller named Rangers captain: What decision means for team’s direction

  1. If JT didn’t come back it would have been Vinny.  Either would be well deserved. I think JT is a great choice and I think it’s something the team needed.

Here is to a very hopeful season!!

  2. That’s an interesting choice of leadership. Dudes locker room cancer for multiple teams now. Should work this time.

  3. JT is too emotional to be a good captain. He’ll need to rein it in. And he’s not a great role model when he’s spazzing out and giving up on plays. Not to mention his regular blind back pass on the pp that leads to a shorty.

  4. Baffling decision. Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought he was a bit of a diva on the Canucks when things didn’t go well for them.

On the other hand, this would seem on brand for Drury after he got rid of Kakko.

  5. So many other choices and they land on that guy. Has absolutely zero qualities you’d want in a captain.

  6. I want either the NYR to go on a multi-year cup run.

Or absolutely implode completely with morale in the locker room.

    I will accept nothing else.

  7. Miller amplifies the mood of the team. Team going well = he’s the best guy in the room, Team not doing so well = his attitude begins to grate on others.

  8. If you’re surprised by this information just remember this is the same organization that made Jacob Trouba their captain.

  9. Yet another highly questionable management decision.. I wonder how long until they finagle him out of his NMC and ship him like they did with their previous captain, Trouba. Come to think of it, there was a lot of criticism when they named him captain and look how that turned out.. NYR really aren’t the best at naming captains recently!

  10. Came in and scored 35 pts in 32 games. He also elevated his line of Mika and Cuylle.

Not popular but the right call. Love that Tro got the A as well.

  11. Really strange to

    1. Not choose a tenured, respected player who’s been in the locker room for a while

    2. Choose a player than amplifies the current mood, not stabilizes it. When things are good, he’s a beaut. When they’re not, he’s down.

He’s a really talented player, but I feel like captains usually are either superstars or rock solid morale leaders.

    Good luck NY.

  12. As a Pens fan I think this is just a… -*suppressing chuckle*- splendid choice. No notes. I bet this will totally work out awesome with no problems or drama *AT ALL*. It won’t be a problem *AT ALL*.
