Adam Silver gets ahead of Torre’s claim that he lied about not knowing of Aspiration’s existence: “I said I never heard of it— I meant in the context of the accusations here. I was certainly aware of the brand.”

  1. So if Adam’s friend robs a bank, and he says he’s never heard of him then gets caught lying, his defense would be “I meant I never heard of him robbing a bank”?

  2. Maybe you shouldn’t have said ‘I’ve frankly never heard of the company Aspiration before’

  3. I hate Roger Goodell for everything he is but god damn is he just a better liar and press puppet than the other commissioners. Lol

  4. Lmao Silver’s walk back. There was no reason to lie or falsely claim you’ve never heard of Aspiration.

No one was accusing you Silver of any conspiracy with Ballmer to commit cap circumvention.

But with this misstatement or lie, you raise questions about whether you’re gonna just protect Ballmer, who is your boss and fellow member of the nba board’s Audit committee.

  5. honestly was never anti-Adam Silver until now lol

billionaires protecting billionaires, of course man

  6. That’s not at all consistent with what he said in the press conference though. He said he had never heard of the company *and* that he further hadn’t heard of any “whiff” of anything related to them.

  7. Was he sick the day they taught law in law school? The matter is under investigation, no comment.

  8. this is such a self own. It benefited him zero to say that he never heard of Aspiration and now he comes out looking like an idiot.

  9. A “podcaster” is embarrassing the entire NBA and NBA media. Love how this is exposing so much incompetence and shilling.

  10. Even I remember that he specifically said “I’ve never hear of this company before…”

Dear lord. Silver – you need to step up here! I’ve always thought he was a pretty good commissioner, but if he screws this up it could be his ass on the line next.

  11. Pablo blocks Silver’s shot at the rim, Silver recovers the rebound but then fumbles it out of bounds in an unforced error for the turnover. It’s Pablo’s ball and he’s up 26 points with 4:38 remaining in the 4th Q.

  12. What does “getting ahead of” mean in this context? It sure seems like this is a response after Torre dropped more damning receipts.

  13. I’ll never understand how so many successful people are absolutely dumber than a box of rocks. People really do fail upwards here lol

  14. He said it. Now he’s denying it. Which makes me think there is some sort of reason why they are trying to kill this story.

    Protect Pablo.

  15. Where’s all the jerkoffs that were arguing with me that “it’s not Adam’s job to micromanage sponsorships for teams”?? Checkmate nerds, of course he’s heard of the brand…

  16. Lord Voldemort here is altering his statement.  Pray that he does not alter it further.

  17. It’s incredible how the NBA commissioner apparently forgot that the NBA has had a massive image problem since Donaghy.

Every bad call, every unlikely draft lottery order, every lopsided trade has been overly scrutinized. Did you really think fans would just let this go, Mr. Silver?

    lmao

  18. I’ve seen 2 clips from this interview and both are silver declaring he meant exact opposite of what he said when he said it lmao

This is so slimy, is world just gonna go ok aight?

  19. Boy this is turning into the NBA looking REALLY bad.

I know silver is a weird dude but how do you not hear how this sounds man? This is damn close to “sure teams, if your owner can afford it just go ahead and ignore all cap implications”

I mean truly, at this point why doesn’t a team have the incentive to sign 3 star players for the vet minimum and pay stupid money for the bench and then just happen to invest in a shitty company that pays the stars $200mil???

This is just insane at this point

  20. Ignoring that this is ridiculous given his exact previous statement (“I frankly never heard of the company Aspiration before”), the reframing is somehow even more ridiculous. Like what do you mean you never heard of Aspiration in the context of the accusations here? You mean you’d never previously heard that Aspiration was conspiring with the Clippers and Kawhi to circumvent the salary cap?? I would sure hope not lol.

  21. bro, what the fuck? this is so embarrassing for the league. Silver now sounds like hes a liar… telling a specific lie that just so happened to coincide with him stating publicly he would be hesitant to punish Ballmer. This is bad.

  22. Adam Silver obviously lying. “Frankly I’d never even heard of the company before” does not have the same meaning at all as what he suggested in this interview. Also, what purpose would there even be to say that his initial reaction to the allegations was that he had never heard of the allegations before? That means nothing. It’s like asking “what was your first impression of person X” and him answering “frankly I had never met person X before” like no shit Sherlock…
