  1. I don’t get where people came up with idea that we’re rebuilding. If we were, Lee and Pageau would’ve already been moved, we wouldn’t have signed Drouin or brought back DeAngelo. It seems like people think there’s no room in between “rebuilding” and “all in”.

I’d say it seems pretty obvious to anyone following the team this off-season that they’re going to try and ice a competitive team in the short term while also focusing on getting younger and improving their long term future. Which is absolutely the right move.

  2. this is pathetic. darche does it to put an “empathetic stamp” on his tenure?

habs fanbase has become one my least favorite this off season

  3. If Kirby Dach is so good and could hit his potential as a 2C, why do habs fans clamor for trading a 2C lmao

  4. So a bottom 6 center, at best a B prospect, veleno is a AAAA player, and a second round pick?

Maybe if he was on an expiring deal and told us he wouldn’t re-sign that package makes sense

  5. Heavy writes the most inane crap, I haven’t clicked on the link but this is probably another article that goes Montreal needs a center, what if the Isles help the Habs solve all their problems and in exchange they receive a second round draft pick some rookie with 4 points in 21 games played who “needs a change of pace” (they say this in every draft proposal) and some other perennial AHLer nobody’s ever heard of. All their articles are about solving the problems of the Leafs Habs Red Wings etc and don’t consider the other team might actually want something in return for a valuable important player

EDIT: it’s a second, Kirby Dach, Veleno, and a prospect wow I must be a psychic

  6. So we’d take a veteran center who is proven and a 0.33 goal per game player (with essentially four 30 goal seasons in a row (28 last year to be clear) and trade him for a so far unproven 0.16 goal per game center with a season high 14 goals?

What crack do people actually smoke when making these things up?

  7. If we are doing that kind of rebuild, and we aren’t worried about being a top of the salary cap team for a while, then why would we make this trade without getting a first rounder back?

  8. I get: An all star caliber player from your team

You get: Piss, shit, vomit (your pick!) and a 2nd

When are other teams fans and “analysts” going to realize that the Islanders are not doing a complete tear down? This is a team that is aiming to (and very likely will) compete for a playoff spot while also working in younger talent and moving on from aging veterans. Darche is not interested in trading his good players for lackluster NHLers and draft picks.

  9. This is the dumbest trade idea ive seen in a while…not even a great return for the isles

  10. >For the Islanders, it puts an emphatic stamp on new general manager Mathieu Darche’s commitment to rebuilding the franchise.

Except Darche explicitly said this wasn’t a complete rebuild…

  11. If the centerpiece of the return to the isles is labeled as “would benefit from a change of scenery” it’s a bullshit offer. As far as random internet trade proposals go, it’s typical and not the worst I’ve seen, but it’s absolutely garbage.

  12. This is clearly written by a canadiens fan or something. Horvat at 8.5 for the long term is kinda a steal given where the market is headed. Maybe in 3 years the outlook will change but right now you can’t get a player of Horvats quality for any cheaper.

  13. For a “mid team” and a joke Canadian teams love absurd trade proposals raiding our talent.

  14. “It puts am emphatic stamp on Mathieu Darche’s commitment to rebuild the franchise.”
Darche said we’re not in a rebuild. He has said it several times this offseason, including last week.

  15. In what world does this “take a pretty large weight off [the Islanders’] shoulders.” The weight of our most consistent forward? The likely pick for captain if/when Lee leaves?

… In exchange for a scrap heap and a 2nd round pick. Islanders arguable already have “too many” bottom 6 forwards, which isn’t a bad thing, but they certainly don’t need 3 more.

  16. Counter Offer:

    Montreal gets Horvat and Engvall

Islanders get Dach, Demidov and Montréal’s first in 2026
