Top MLB Plays of 9/16/25 (Brenton Doyle’s HR robbery, Manny Machado’s backhand play and more!)
That ball is hit deep right center. Eli White to the wall and making a great grab. Reaching up to take extra bases away from James Wood. I’ll call it even for the defense. An error to start this game. And then an excellent play in right field by Eli White to take extra bases away from James Wood. He went up back to the wall and right into that chainlink fence. They never like those fences in the outfield. They’re tough to play. You worry about guys when they come down cuz then you’re going to have that little bit of bump there. Out up the middle. Here comes Jacob. And he’ll slide into that beautiful catch. I I it just [Music] the play he didn’t make in in left center field when knocked it down completely. But look at this. He’s going to in to his left. When we talk about best jumps in the league, best routes in the league, it’s Jacob Young. How do you go from center field to behind the plate? Athlete like that field all the way into the corner. This could tie the game. Ana is into third. They’re going to wave him home. Arius is thrown to the plate in time. They got him. Oh, terrific throw by Arius. And a really good job of Bo Naylor waiting on Az because Abanz tried to fake him out with a swim move and there was nothing doing. That had to be 90 m an hour coming in. Maybe better than that, but it got him in time. And a beautiful tag by Bo. Look at this. He didn’t even let his hand get in on the back. Good job. I mean, he knew his feet were ready to go. He knew he had to get rid of it quickly. He He was watching. That was textbook, folk. He came in. Quan lifts it to right. Perez is there. Wel gliding down to the turf for out number one. And a big one at that. So great read right off the bat. Goes down to the turf to catch it. You know it was a tough one whenever the guy hits the ground hard and the head kind of whips a little bit. Kind of like from that old catcher’s perspective. I mean that’s as good a game as you will ever see. Nice. Nice play. A great play by Jose Ramirez for out number two. You know, now watch. He doesn’t get up and try and rush it cuz he knows who’s running. But he did take a peek and notice he was about a third of the way down. I’ve got plenty of time. His eyes went up. Okay, he’s not running hard. Just let me get it over there on time. Beautiful. And Zebie Matthews is back to work and McMahon sends it high and deep to left center. Outman back to the wall. jumps up, makes the play up against that twin TV sign in left field. The leaping catch made by Outman and McMahon is out number one. And here comes Miles Straw covering a lot of ground and making a nice catch to take a bid for a base hit away from Tristan Gray. Yeah, and let me tell you something. If you’re pitching for this Blue Jays team, you want the ball put into play. This defense is outstanding. Clement makes a nice play to start the inning. And here comes Miles Strong. Chisum takes off. Ground ball smash. Nice play by Martin from his knee. Throws out Ryan McMahon. Down to third to the backand. Machado from foul ground. Got him. Good stretch on the other side by O’Harn. Throw a little bit to the home plate side and that will end the inning. We are through seven in New York. 82 Mets have the lead. Nice play by Manny Machado. He just got machadoed. Diving stop by Clement and another good play out at second base for out number two. And he’s been very good no matter where he played. And we talk about how many times he’s made plays tonight. That’s the sixth time he’s had a ground ball he’s made a play on. He’s also caught a popup tonight. So he’s seen a lot of action at second base. How quickly it gets to his feet. 02 line to center field. Do lay it and makes a catch. When you’re coming in and having to dive coming in, that’s the most difficult dive. It is by far. And I think if we watch the hand positioning of Doory, he does a really good job making sure the base, the palm of his hand gets underneath that baseball. You can see him even tuck his hand to make sure he holds it when he slides. So you see how it popped up? He did a really good job keeping that ball in his glove. Began the year in Everett and has made it all the way to TripleA. JP, how about an assist? Wow. They drew that up in the sand lot and it’s out number one. Crawford to Rivas to Naylor. One away. Hangs up and fairly deep left center. McCarthy on the run and Jake’s got it. Boy, did he go a long way to get to that one. A great line to the ball by McCarthy for the second out. Defensively, if you’ve got that kind of speed, you can take some extra base hits away from the opposition. And that’s exactly what Jake McCarthy does right there. Wow. Wonder how long he’ll go, though. This ball’s hit really well to center field. And Meyers gets robbed. Doyle takes it back. Sorry about it. Don’t hit to that guy or the one in center field.
