New York Jets CHANGES COMING Before Week 3? Top 5 Players To Play More Ft. Malachi Moore
[Music] What’s going on everybody? Welcome on into the Jets Report. My name is Patrick Steman and coming up on today’s show, I want to dive into five players who I think deserve more playing time and could potentially help the Jets find that first win in the Aaron Glenn era this upcoming Sunday versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But before we dive into that, if you guys could let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section. What is your biggest concern with the Jets so far? 0 and2 to start. Obviously, I believe the Jets should be one and one, but there are some issues with this team and you guys just got to chime in down below. What is your biggest concern with the New York Jets so far throughout their 0 and2 start now? The number one guy that needs to play more. How about the defensive tackle they just traded for right before the start of the season? Former Cleveland Brown Jawan Briggs. Now, in this second season here with the New York Jets or second season in the NFL, first with the New York Jets, he has been a lone bright spot for the Jets defense. This was coming in from Justin Fry tweeting out Jawan Briggs was the lone bright spot for the Jets in week two. Briggs had an 88.7 PFF grade, which ranked third among all interior defensive linemen in the NFL. He finished with three pressures, one sack, four run stops, and a force fumble. and he’s PFF’s number six overall interior defensive lineman through two weeks right behind Quinnon Williams. So again, this isn’t in like a limited sample size. Let’s just say this guy only played 20 snaps. You know, one of the highest graded uh defenders according to PFF. No, he’s got a decent enough sample size. Like 48 snaps, that’s necessarily like a whole football game. He’s been I would chalk it up to probably 50% of snaps throughout the first two games, but he deserves more playing time because like they said, he’s the sixth overall rated interior defensive lineman out of 156 eligible guys. Pass rush grade solid as well, 73.8. Run defense doing his dang thing. 73 and a half over overall grade, which is 10th in the NFL. and the Jets defensive game plan with the Bucky Irving and this Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense, they should run three se uh three defensive tackles, majority of early downs because I think the game plan this week is number one, like it is most weeks, you got to stop the run, but especially with Tampa Bay, Bucky Irving is a special back. Rashad White is pretty solid as well. They get really good push from their interior of their offensive uh yeah, interior of their offensive line. So, the Jets to combat that, get some big bodies in there. Like I would love fiveman front every single early downs. You got the edge rushers McDonald and Germaine Johnson, Quinnon Williams, Harrison Phillips, Jawan Briggs. Run those five. Then you got the two linebackers. That’s a deadly front seven. But this is good news that a guy like Jawan Briggs is stepping up cuz you needed it. Like if you didn’t go trade for Jawan Briggs and Harrison Phillips, what are we talking about with this defensive tackle position? So I will give Darren Muji some credit. That trade is looking, you know, very, very nice so far. Hopefully can continue to build off that. But at the end of the day, the guy just needs more snaps this upcoming Sunday. And number two here, we’re going to kick the Malachi Moore. Uh fourth round pick out of Alabama. Massive fan of his game. Extremely versatile safety. He can play in the box. He can play free. He can play strong. You can line him up anywhere on the football field. And the thing I love the most about Malachi Moore is that he’s just got great instincts. Like this guy, he can sniff out damn near anything out there. And I think when you have those instincts at the safety position, it is huge. And filling in last week when Tony Adams got hurt, he actually played pretty solid. Again, 48 snaps, first ever career start, 61 point or first ever career game, 61.4 overall grade, solid in the run defense, solid in coverage, and he is just way better than Tony Adams. The Jets don’t need to play Tony Adams anymore. The guy is just frankly terrible. He is one of the worst safeties in the NFL so far. In 83 snaps, he is a PFF grade of 40.6. 6 40.6. He can’t be out there on the football field. Especially when, you know, let’s just say the Jets didn’t have any depth at the safety position. I’m not saying they have a ton, but at least you have a young guy in Malachi Moore where even though you will go through growing pains with him being in the lineup, you already know who Tony Adams is. He’s not going to get any better. At least give those reps to a younger guy, have him develop, then hopefully by the end of the season when the Jets schedule eases up a little bit, he’s playing some good football, that defense gets humming with that front seven. You have another playmaker on the back end. No more Tony Adams. Guy doesn’t need to play anymore. He’s just flat out terrible. Get Malachi Morris some more reps. Get him some more snaps this Sunday against the Buccaneers, which also I fully expect Aaron Glenn and Steve Wilks to do just that. But we’ll dive into more names here in a second. But if you guys could hit that subscribe button today, we are 33 subs away from 9 and a half thousand. So, if you guys have not already, hit that subscribe button. It really does help us out. and I cannot wait to hit that milestone of 10,000 subs eventually. So, hit that subscribe button today and uh I’ll greatly greatly appreciate it. Once again, thank you to the DraftKings Sportsbook for sponsoring today’s show. Now, let’s dive into the rest of today’s episode. All right, let’s kick it to the third guy on our list. We’re going to go offensive player here, tight end Mason Taylor. Now, Mason Taylor’s been quiet during the first two games, and I had some high expectations for him. I thought he was going to be second receiving yards for this Jets offense when it was all said and done. And that very well could be the case. And maybe injuries are limiting Mason Taylor as a big reason why he hasn’t been a bigger part of this offense, dealing with that high ankle sprain, but he needs to be a bigger part. There is no excuse. You spent the 42nd overall pick on this guy. He is a freak athlete. 6’5, moves well. He is just a matchup problem for defenses. You put a slot corner on him, he’s too big. You put a linebacker on him, he’s too fast. So maybe injuries are limiting his production, but get him to be a bigger focal point of this offense this upcoming week. That would be absolutely huge. And you may be saying, well, maybe the ankle sprain, he’s just not playing a lot. He is. He’s played 90 snaps offensively. That is the second highest on the team to only the quarterback, Justin Fields. This guy needs to be out there more. Jeremy Ruckard’s been fine, but you spent a premium draft pick on Mason Taylor. He’s got a ton of talent. Let him continue to develop, and there’s a massive hole at that second pass catching option. You know, we’re hoping Aren Smith eventually can develop into that. But that’s going to take some time. You know, he’s a gadget guy. He’s a burner. He still needs to refine his, you know, route running and just his catching ability. But Mason Taylor, like the guy seems ready to go. I don’t know why he hasn’t been more involved. That’s on the offensive coordinator and that’s also probably on the quarterback Justin Fields. This guy is too good of a football player, especially with the Jets offense struggling to not get him the football more. And I can make the same argument for Brillin Allen. Brillan Allen looked absolutely amazing during the offseason and during the preseason. He looks like he added more muscle. He looks like he’s a lot more explosive. And throughout the first two weeks, we haven’t really seen him. and Aaron Glenn, what happened like this whole off seasonason, he was saying it’s going to be a split back field. We’re going to use all three running backs and they sort of have. And also, I don’t know if this was just mainly Bree Hall running crazy week one and they’re like, “All right, we’re just going to try to feed feed the hot hand in the week two, keep Bree Hall going.” But also, there is no excuse or no rhyme or reason you can make to me that Brilen Allen his first snap came in the second quarter. That can’t happen. He had two carries this past week. One was in garbage time. The other one was when it was third and 25. And if you just look at the comparison between these two, like Brilin just hasn’t had a chance. Bruce Hall has looked good. This is not like a slight to Bree Hall take I’m trying to have here. It’s more of a positive take around Brilin Allen where I just think he’s that special. I think he’s a playmaker and if you want to add some more physicality to the this offense, he is that and he’s just too talented to not get the ball more. Bree Hall is a great talent as well, but also the Jets, you’re gonna have to have a decision or you’re gonna have to make a decision this offseason. Are you going to pay Bree Hall? Are you going to pay Germaine Johnson, Will McDonald? I guarantee you they would rather pay Germaine Johnson or Will McDonald over Bree Hall. So, who even knows if Bree Hall’s on the team next year, so might as well get this young guy, Brandon Allen, some more carries. Get him the football more. He needs still to develop. And also, he’s just a hell of a football player. He’s a problem with the football in his hands. So get him the ball more. That’s for sure. And then also Aren Smith. I understand Aaron Smith is probably not the most pro ready wide receiver right now. Like he definitely needs to refine his route running. You know, he needs to just be better, you know, with the drops and everything, but there is absolutely no reason that Allen Lazard should play over Aren Smith. Even if right now the coaching staff believes Alen Lazard is 5% better at playing that spot compared to Aaron Smith, who the hell cares? We know what Lazard is. We don’t know how special Aren Smith could be. So, in my opinion, there are only four wide receivers on the Jets that should play. Obviously, it’s Garrett Wilson. Josh Reynolds will be out there. And then I just think it should be Aaron Smith and Tyler Johnson. Honestly, ideally it’s Garrett Wilson, Josh Reynolds, or Tyler Johnson on the field with Aaron Smith because also even though, like I said, he is not the, you know, most pro ready wide receiver, you know, more of a developmental pick, but I’ll tell you what’s pro ready. It’s his speed. You want to keep defenses honest. You want to keep them on their heels instead of them getting downhill, selling out on the run, throw a couple of deep shots. Even if you don’t complete them, you’ll still have those linebackers and those safeties being like, “Do I really want to creep up on this play?” Because what if Aaron Smith is running behind me and I give up a 70 yard touchdown? Alan Lazard, it’s over. Shouldn’t play anymore. Lazard, Tony Adams, done. Play these younger guys. They deserve it. Um, you know, Aaron Glenn, like I love what he’s been talking about so far, but stay true to your word a little bit. You said you’re going to play the best football players and Lazard and Tony Adams are just not good football players at this point in their careers. Get the young guys a chance, have them develop, and then hopefully we see this team really starting to peak during the tail half of the season. But I just gave you guys five names. You guys just got to give me one here. Who should play more on the Jets roster? Let me know your thoughts down below. Also, if you guys want to hit me up on Twitter, Pats is a Twitter handle. And we’ll see you guys next time. As always, go Jets. [Music]

The jets sucked so bad the network cut the game. I never seen a game cut b4. Reminds me of the Heidi bowel. Your not old enough to know that
WHAT WAS I WATCHING THE BIGGEST LOSER
Play calling / they need #2 WR CHASE CLAYPOOL you got nothing to loose
Without a passing game all the other teams just focus on the run .dummies
If Mason Taylor is injured, he shouldn’t be playing.
Ruckert has been very underwhelming in his career.
Malachi Moore. Time to give the kid the job and let him grow into it.
Number 1 concern IMO the defense. Giving up 30 a week, blowing 3rd downs consistently, LBs having issues with the robber role and the penalties
Mason Taylor is not ready yet he missed the block that got Justin hurt.
Want to see AZ Thomas
I remember the 2022 season, started a ton of rookies and backups and it paid off quite a bit. Like the 2023 game against the Eagles. Backup CBs and Davis sealed the game with INTs.
Start the rookie Safety, CB, defensive ends, and d-tackles!
Agree with 4 of your 5. Allen seems to not have the same presence in regular season. Breece has a much stronger attack at open holes.
An average edge rusher, which is what Will McDonald is, will never be more valuable than average RB let alone an above average-very good RB which is what Breece Hall is.
Living in the Tampa area, the game will be locally televised and just hoping for a close , well played game. Leave the field with their heads up.
We need to know what's up with Taylor,I thought he would be a main target for Fields….if Tyrod starts I hope he looks for Taylor and Arian…a little T and A action 🎉🎉🎉😮😮😮😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Azareye'h Thomas should be playing more
Moore for sure!!!!!!😊
Leave Breece Hall alone he is a great back. We need him.
Adams should go Lazard should go. It’s over for both of them. Get them out of here now, please
I know who I want to see not play at all – Michael Clemons !
Inability to stop the pass…
Jets are gonna get blown out Sunday. Taylor is a fine backup, but this offense was built for a running QB. He's not that anymore.
General lack of talent
Wow I knew Briggs played good, but i didn’t know he played that good
To Adam’s credit this defense is Totally different from last year. Poor guy is just a bad fit.
Arien smith, and Briggs for sure
My concern is the defense. I was hoping and expecting them to kick some butt. They let Calvin Austin kill us while Sauce locked down Metcalf. Week 2, The Bills did everything they wanted to with ease. I know the Bills are good. But there is no way they should've come into our house and punked us like that. They're suppose to keep us in games and not just give them away. Pitiful.
Defense needs to be much better. Built to be a defense first team they look as bad as I've ever seen. Is it the system or the players? Hopefully adjustments will be made.
I’m prepared for them to start Tony Adams I am sure of it
Penalties and defense holding can’t stop the pass
Tyrod Taylor should be the starter because Justin Fields is not going to be the future Quarterback of this team. That player will be in the 2026 draft class.
The secondary!
Maybe just see if they can bump QW on the Clemons spot and put Briggs in next to Phillips. It’s worth a try. Have a big front 4
Like that front five idea!
I feel sorry for this YouTube'r he hooked his horse to the wrong wagon.
Secondary and another top WR
Fire Steve Wilks. There's a reason why the 49ers with the great defense fired him!
sit #21 stephon he is liability
love what you said about Allen and Hall i love them both and they both need to be getting the rock hell throw Breece in the slot i think hes proved he can ball wherever hes at
AZ Thomas. There’s no way he’s worse than Stephens.
Braelon dropped a ball that hit him right in his hands. Y’all are hyped over a guy who had ONE good inseason game last year.
