We Just Heard an Announcer Openly Mock an Opposing Team in a Way You Never Hear

In case you haven’t been watching baseball this year, for some reason, the New York Mets are experiencing one of the biggest fall-offs of what looked to be a truly impressive season that we’ve ever seen. Not only are they currently on a seven-game losing streak, but as pointed out by Jeff Passen on Twitter, since they started out 45 and 24, the best record in baseball, they have proceeded to go 31 and 47, one of the worst. And it’s gotten so bad in Queens that an opposing announcer just openly mocked them after they made yet another embarrassing play while down big early in a contest. Jacob Deg Grom was set to face the Mets in City Field for the first time since he left before the 2023 season. And in classic Mets fashion, they would have to watch as the Rangers put up six runs in the top of the first, chasing rookie phenom Jonah Tong in the process while simultaneously registering something that had never happened one time during Jacob’s own stint in New York while he was pitching. After a quiet frame by Deg Grom in the bottom half of that inning, the Rangers broadcast didn’t hold back on what kind of shock it must have been for Mets fans who were just a few minutes late getting into the stadium. You know, it can be tough to get to a game on time, especially here in New York. I think the people that are walking into the stadium, now we’re just we’re 15, 20 minutes late. We’ll be okay. And they sit down like six. Did they What’s What? This was immediately preceding a play where with two outs, Jake Burgerer flipped a sinker to Petalono who fielded it on the hop before seeing his hurler nowhere close to the base as Burger neared it. At this point, instead of eating it, he decided to make a throw anyway, nearly hitting Brazaban in the head as it flew past him, then trickled into the dugout to give the hitter a free base. Now, this obviously was an embarrassing play, period. Right? I mean, look at it. But I want you to listen to how the Rangers broadcast reacted as it occurred and then their comments on the fallout immediately after. keeping up on the app or something as this one is flared on a hop right side and Brazon doesn’t get the first. They throw it anyway and that one goes into the seats. The Mets are mexing. And as a coaching staff, it’s tough to keep your composure right now. You have to. When your franchise has a custom verb to describe your sloppy, downright bizarre behavior, you know something’s going wrong on a fundamental level. And this is reflected in how long of a poor stretch they’ve had over the summer, as detailed by Passen in the intro. As you’d expect, they’d go on to lose this contest 8 to3 with one final indecency being the fact that this is the most run support that Deg Grom had ever received at City Field. And of course, it only came after the modern legend had departed for another team. Now, before we go, I wanted to do a little mini shout out for Roki Sasaki, who just seemingly decided to turn his gas back up to previously observed levels, punching out eight batters through four and two/3 innings with sharp off speed stuff, and most importantly, a fast ball that routinely touched 100 mph. All of a sudden, he took himself from a borderline disappointment that was publicly acknowledged by Dave Roberts, to seemingly being on the fast track back to the big leagues, though more than likely in a relief role. This is a welcome development for a player who had been experiencing one of the sharper fall-offs we’ve seen for a prospect in recent memory, but now seems poised to potentially reclaim his place as one of the most intriguing young pitchers in baseball. All right, everybody. If you made it this far, I appreciate you watching. And if you did, consider checking out any of these other videos on your screen right now for other content just like this. Thanks for watching. Have a rest your day.

  1. The Mets are fucking undefeated at being the best team in baseball then quickly becoming pure shit. Or they start horribly and end like gods. I was so positive we were getting the wild card, but every game I see now I'm thinking we're done this year.

  2. Oh brother. Can the title for this video be more hyperbolic? Or really, are Mets fans such crybabies they can’t handle a little criticism? This video is embarrassing for the Mets and their fans, not because of the harmless comment the announcer made, but because they act like little marshmallows in response to it. Mets fans: Grow a pair!

  3. i think the only other professional sports team in america that has their team name as a verb for their play is the Chargers of the NFL, i could be wrong though

  4. They just look like they have lost the heart to play. I think it is the organization from top to bottom and not the players. If I were a player it is not a place that I would want to go.

  5. Since the MESS decided to fly the satanic flag during the National Anthem on June 12th (they were 45-25 at the time) they have been playing .397 ball. Serves them right!!! That diabolical garbage has no place in baseball. God is real! Met fan since '69.

  6. Good shout out for Roki. I feel bad for the kid getting here and being hyped to the moon but struggling to find footing. I'm happy to see him seemingly starting to figure some things out. It is funny to me that the dodgers pitching staff couldn't help him but sending him down to tripple A seems to have clicked.

  7. Part of the Take Me Out to the Ball Game actually goes

For it's root root root for the Metsies… if they don't win, they're the Mets… what did you expect ?

  8. Despite their struggles, the Mets still have a 79.7% chance to make the playoffs. Winning a playoff series or two would go a long way toward recovering their season.

  9. Ehorver thought in new yirk thered be more excitement for the new uoyk knicks then for either baseball and football teams.. at least the Knicks the past few years have become a playoff team and respectable again, although they need another piece or two to really be championship contenders. The Mets, dont deserve to make the playoffs. They are horrible

  10. As a lifelong Mets fan, this video pretty much sums everything I've witnessed over the last 40 years with the Mets 😢. However, I don't hold it against you for making the video and I still enjoyed it (as much as a Mets fan could possibly enjoy watching their own team fall apart AGAIN) and I really do enjoy watching your content. Thank you for sharing.

  11. This is on Pete for visibly giving up on throwing it to make a pouty face and then deciding to after he gave up on it. Even if you think the pitcher won't get there in time you still follow through with the play.
