Rangers vs. Astros Game Highlights (9/16/25) | MLB Highlights
The most important home stand of the year is the Astros fight the Texas Rangers and Then the Seattle Mariners, the A L West continues to be tight and it looks like the Astros will be without Jordan Alvarez for a while. They did not make a roster move today on the mound opening this game for the Astros and the bullpen is AJ blue ball 2.45. Er, a one start, josh Smith leading it off 257 average nine home runs swing and a struck him out on a fastball away all fastballs to josh Smith one away. He’s ready to go now against Watt Langford. Got him on the sweeper, hop off the mound with back to back strikeouts of Smith and Langford quite a start for a, got him. What a start for AJ blue ball three swinging strikeouts. Josh smith Wyatt Langford and jake Berger down in order. The other thing we’re hoping for for certain is a big start for Merrill Kelly. Yeah, we are now he’s been outstanding against the Houston Astros in his career first pitch by Meryl Kelly to Jeremy Penty is rifled in the center and down for a base hit picked up by Helman on a hop and Jeremy Pena gets the Astros started on the right foot that will bring up Carlos Correa right handed, hitting third baseman pitches grounded toward the line. That’s a fair ball down the line past the diving Josh Young Pena to third Correa Digs for second. He is in there with double number 26 on the year. I like the way this game is starting. The Astros are going to be aggressive against Merryl Kelly , especially against this guy Merryl Kelly who really dealt against Astros last time already. Two runners in scoring position just three batters in Jose Altuve. The batter went high in the air to left field that will send Wyatt Lankford to the warning track. You can walk home. It’s one Astros, Jose Altuve RB I number 71 on the year. Still at second one out for christian Walker. Miss Walker strikes out and there’s first strike out of the night. Zack Cole right fielder two run homer yesterday, three RBS when he replaced short on swings and it’s a ground ball to second base Freeman in front of it has it and throws him out and Kelly able to limit the damage. A ball struck out the side in the first on 12 pitches, Peterson, the batter 22 pitch and that ball is swung on and pounded deep down the right field line, but foul got him right back to how about that? Four strikeouts for the first four batters for AJ blue ball too often. You see a guy have his changeup get crushed foul. Fortunately and come right back with a better one. The one line drive looped into left, it falls for the base hit but Higashioka the first to reach just a nice even swing there, swing and a ball sliced into left. That’s a base knock. It goes all the way into the corner. Higashioka digging for third. Tony Beasley will him right there. It’s an opposite field double for Alejandro Osuna and the Rangers trailing by a run have been at 2nd and 3rd here with two outs for Michael Helman. This one up on the infield. Christian Walker will put it away and balls two in scoring position to end the second inning, two hits, two left off the 3 to 2 checks his swing that had a lot of that should have been a called third strike so good. He fooled the home plate umpire leadoff walk here to Freeman to start the third inning. That was right at the knees. Runner goes. The pitch is a strike. The throw not quite in time just getting in ahead of the throw is freeman with his first major league steal. Blue ball realizes this is probably his final batter. See if he makes a mistake to berger. There’s a sweeper to end the outing AJ blue ball career high seven strikeouts, three innings of shutout baseball tonight. Well done. Top two in the order, a combined four for four. Pena stops at second. And so Kelly pitching with traffic again, going up against Jose Altuve Alun play made at third by Young. That will be a sacrifice for Jose. So there’s one away runners on 2nd and 3rd walker in his first year facing Kelly head to head is one for four ball backhanded by Young doesn’t have a play at home. Pena scores walker with the RB I ground out and the Astros lead 2 to 0 now two gone and Zack Cole will be the batter. That ball is hit out into center field. Helman coming on to his left. He’ll make a running grab in time to get Cole for the final out of the inning. The third time in four innings, the Astros have 1st and 2nd and nobody out. And here comes Jr Diaz. Their number eight hitter flied out to left field his first time up. Yer hits one towards the corner and left. That’s going to be trouble. It’s, it’s a fair ball in the score. Jake Myers being held at third Caratini RB I double for jr Diaz. It’s three Astros. The Astros have done a really nice job of putting the ball in play, putting pressure on the Rangers defense infield is going to come in here for Jesus Sanchez, 2nd and 3rd. Nobody out. There’s a line drive base hit that’s going to score a couple Jan Diaz being called the throw by a not in time five Astros most earned runs allowed by Merrill Kelly since the start on April the third, his second start of the year, a very tall one now two for two with two singles both times he singled on the first pitch of the at bat. Here’s the pitch grounded right side and sanchez will win. He goes to third base Pena finds the hole and the Astros have their fifth straight hit. So Kelly comes up with a clunker at the worst possible time. Rangers badly needing a victory after dropping the opener of this series and they will play from behind tonight. Kelly is done in a five game. So here’s Cole win batter, couple of sacrifices already. There’s a base hit to left six Astros. Altuve his second RB I of the night Sanchez crosses the plate. Altuve now with 72 runs batted of the year brings up Cody Freeman. Freeman drew a walk stole second and was stranded at third his first time up. There’s a swing and a drive deep out to left field and that one is gone. We’ll start with that. The cody Freeman home run. It’s 6 to 1 fans kind enough to throw that souvenir back for Freeman. So a new pitcher for Houston and de Los santos and right now every little thing matters even in a like this. So the Rangers get a two out base runner, Jonah, he is going to pinch hit, they’re in danger of dropping three straight. That is going to make a difference. So a deep to right, it’s gone. Jonah Heim with a two run shot and he’s given the Rangers a little spark. Now in the eighth inning, that’s a no Doubter. This Rangers team Chris Bo is pulled some levers recently, so garcia is on and the Rangers extend this eighth inning, Josh Young, the batter all this with two outs, a walk a home run and now a line single and that ball is hit hard down the left field line that drops in for a base hit Higashioka heading to third base. They’re going to go ahead and wave him and he will score just ahead of the throw Young with an RB I double and the tying run gets to the plate in the eighth inning and that’ll be the end of the night for Enel Dela Santos, joe Espada going to his closer for a four out save here. We’ll have a new pitcher, Brian Abreu and that is outside ball four. Well, Suna took a close one. He saw it a little bit. The time runs are on for elbow be. It’s pretty wild to think that howard quickly this inning has spiraled out of control and garcia shoots it through the right side that a base young he’ll score. It’s a one run game and garcia delivers again, that is the sixth consecutive ranger to reach base two, two to freeman and he pops it up left side of the infield, Correa, a step in the foul ground waiting for it makes the catch and the side is retired but the Rangers a little too close for comfort. They sent nine men of the plate score four times with two out Astros with a 65 lead over the Rangers. Brian Abreu back out there trying to get the final three outs tying run in scoring position. The go ahead run at first down to their final out and the batter is Kyle Higashioka, who’s two for four tonight got him on the slider away and that is the ball game. It got interesting late but the Astros hold on to defeat the Rangers 6 to 5. Astros maintain a three game lead over the Guardians for the final wild card spot and are still a half game behind Seattle for the A L West lead.

A HUEVOOOOOO ๐ฎ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ฅ
Good win for the Astros, but that was too close. Wheels came off in the 8th.
3:20 blubaugh getting blue balled by blues ball call .. !! ๐๐๐ lost my shit when they said his name. Blubaugh are u kidding me ๐
When the Astros win, America wins.
Altuve hits everything so hard .. his bunt was on a rope ๐ a screaming bunt grounder ๐
I'm 58 my heart cant take anymore lol ๐
Another of DEI Brown's signings decides that it's not close enough. So, that turd decies to hand some runs to the Rangers. I can only hope, with the rest of the Astros baseball nation, that DEI Brown is let go and they hire someone who knows how to pick 'em to win.
YEE-HAW, the โHouston Astrosโ win AGAIN!
The Houston Trashtros are a fraudulent cheating franchise who will never win anything legitimately. ๐ผ๐ผ๐ผ๐ผ๐ผ
Santos stinks
AJ was doing good. I dont see why you take him out. He's been a starter so he's got the stamina. Especially if your trusting Jason Alexander and Lance mcuellers
Cheating bastards
WHY DOES ESPADA TAKE OUT BLUEBAUGH???!!!!
Why are the rangers only playing good last innings!!!??? They deff won't make playoffs like this
Last week Rangers fans were talking about a sweep here, now no where to be found on this board.
Bring out the Big Broom , lets sweep up the Rangers and keep that broom out for some Mariners
We have some good pitchers… but the stark contrast between this pitching staff and the 2022 staff (arguably the best that major league baseball had seen in a decade) is worrisome.
De La Santos SUCKS
Rangers are going too get there BUTS whooped by the houston astros
Astros Got Lucky
Great win ! If we were nervous, imagine the players. Abreu is obviously pitching scared, he is overthinking things instead of just pitching. Hader….you better be ready. We need you !
Freakin Espada leaves in these pitchers in way too damn long. Give up two hits in a row get them out
๐ค๐ค๐ค๐๐๐
The Rangers broadcast is unwatchable. Stop using it.
the cole misread hurt
The way this season has gone, I'm not totally confident in the team. I still love them, we're just not that good.
I was nervous just watching this highlight video.๐ Glad the Astros held on in the end. That was a nail biter
Where are ya ranger Bob
