Lakers Herb Jones Trade After Luka Comments?
What’s going on everyone? So, Luca Donuch recently revealed the kind of guys that are the toughest on him. Um, and the two names that he mentioned was Marcus Smart, who the Lakers now have, right? And Luca Donuch went reached out to him and kind of recruited him and really wanted Marcus Smart to join the Lakers. He always wanted to play with Marcus Smart. But the second name that he mentioned is Herb Jones. Now, Herb Jones is somebody that has been linked to Lakers in the past. Somebody that I’ve talked about on several occasions, I think would be one of the ideal targets for the Lakers long-term sold alongside Luca Donuch. You’re talking about a guy that can slot in really two through four for you. Um, be that legit three and D win. Uh, he’s still young enough to be kind of foundation piece. He’s 26. He’ll be 27 close to the start of the season. So you’d have him, Luca, potentially DeAndre Aton for the foreseeable future. If a dude Theoro can kind of come into his zone and be a bit of a two-way guy, maybe even learn some stuff from a Herb Jones. You could have your two wings solved for the foreseeable future along Aton alongside Luca Donuch. And then we’ll see, you know, if they end up keeping Austin Reeves or how that ends up happening. Herb Jones can’t be traded until January 14th, so around the trade deadline. So couple things about this though, right? one, the Lakers are more willing to take on long-term contracts, which is good. That’s in the favor of potentially trading for Herb Jones, where if the Lakers still, you know, had that idea of like, hey, we don’t want any contracts beyond, you know, this season or next, then I think that that would probably rule out the potential of the Lakers actively trying to push and pursue for Herb Jones. Two, Herb Jones is probably not going to be a starter on the New Orleans Pelicans. He’s probably going to be the sixth, seventh guy on that team. um just because they have the young guys. Maybe they start him over some of the guys, but at some point Herb Jones could potentially be the odd man out. Three, I would rather if I had to give up the package for a Andrew Wiggins, I’d rather give up the same package and, you know, maybe throw in an extra pick swap or something and go get Herb Jones, right? I’d rather try to, you know, if I had to give up a first, if I had to give up Dalton Kadak, Ruy Hachimura, and whatever else in order to make that happen, I would rather do it for a guy like Herb Jones than a uh an Andrew Wiggins. I’d still love Andrew Wiggins. Um, you know, if you could find a way to to get like you’d have to trade Osar Reeves, which personally, if you could get Andrew Wiggins and Herb Jones, I would trade Austin because you got to remember if they’re willing to trade off Reeves, they’d have like 60 plus million in expiring contracts. So, if the Lakers could do something, maybe a three-team trade, you know, because I don’t know if the the Pelicans would want Austin Ree. Also, I don’t know if Austin Reeves want to stay with the Pelicans, but maybe you could find a team that wants Austin that Austin wants to go to. Work out some three-team trade to where you get Herb Jones and then do the trade for um you know, uh Andrew Wiggins kind of, you know, end up landing both cuz I I think Luca, Andrew Wiggins, Herb Jones, LeBron James, and DeAndre Aton is the best starting five in all of basketball. You have now the athleticism, the defense, the shooting, the versatility. Both guys are just would be better natural fists off ball with Luca Donson and LeBron James, right? Both guys can go get you, you know, 20 on a random night, but realistically speaking, they probably keep uh Austin Reeves. Lakers are active and trying to trade for Andrew Wiggins right now. If that ends up happening, then I don’t know if we’ll end up trading for Herb Jones. But if the Lakers, you know, if the the asking price for Andrew Wiggins doesn’t come down and things kind of stay the way that they are and the Lakers kind of move into the season and you start getting closer to the trade deadline, you get into January, right? And now Herb Jones is available and you and you know, say the Pelicans are shopping him or something because that’s the other thing too, the Pelicans have to be willing to trade him and shop him. They were looking and interested in trading him, you know, the past like season and a half. So maybe, you know, now that you have them under a long-term contract, that incentivizes teams more, right? So maybe you get some more, right? Or or, you know, kind of if you’re the Pelicans, kind of go into the season, wait, evaluate, kind of see how things are playing out, seeing how things are kind of, you know, taking its course and then kind of make that decision. Like if some of these young guys kind of rise to the top, it’s like, hey, let’s get off of Herb Jones because you have Trey Murphy. Probably not trading Trey Murphy. Um, you know, and plus Luca Donuch, again, Luca Donuch would probably push pretty hard for a Herb Jones. And, you know, if you could kind of have the two guys that, you know, Luca Donuch mentioned, and based on what we know from, you know, pre the extension, the Pelicans aren’t against trading Herb Jones. They just they want the right price. They’re not just going to give him away. So, Lakers would have to, you know, incentivize, like I said, maybe it’s a third team, a three-team trade. Maybe it’s something, right? Um, also I’d rather I’m not going to lie, I’d rather pay Herb Jones, what is it? He’s making like 25 million a year, something like that. I’d rather give him that than pay Austin Reeves, you know, 3540 million a year. I just think Herb Jones gives you the better two-way capabilities. Yes. You look at, you know, uh, Luca Donic and you look at kind of the success he’s had with like Jaylen Brunson and Kyrie Irving having that kind of secondary playmaker, secondary shot creator. If you lose LeBron, then you wouldn’t have that. But I think that I think you could get somebody like that. You don’t need like a high-end guy necessarily, especially if you have the right complimentary pieces and higherend pieces around. So if you have a higherend center than what Dallas has had, right, with DeAndre Aton is better than all the centers that that they’ve had at least offensively, right? You could argue, you know, Dererick Lively, we’ll see what he becomes, you know, they’ve had some guys that, you know, defensively, right? But DeAndre Eaton is better, you know, than what those centers have been. So if you have an upgrade at center and if you have kind of higherend wings than you know say a you know a Derrick Jones Jr. and and a you know PJ Washington if you have like a Herb Jones and like I said if if you know a Duro kind of can evolve into that or maybe you go and find another guy whatever if you kind of have the two high-end wings you got the uh you know the center and then go find that kind of you know defensive 3ND guy and then just go get like a Malik Monk type off the bench I think you’d be fine. I think now you have the defense. I think you’re a perennial contender. I think you’re one of the best teams in all of basketball. Herb Jones I think would be an excellent fit. There are a couple concerns though with Herb Jones if we’re if we’re being honest. Primarily, you know, him he’s got to be able to stay healthy on the basketball court, but in his defense like everybody on the Pelicans was like decimated with injuries last season in particular. Um, so you know, Herb Jones, you know, his his injury last season, I don’t think can be super I don’t think you can hold it too much against him. I think you need to kind of wait and see because you look at the previous years he played 76 games, 66 games, and then 78 games, right? So, but last year he played 20. Now, again, we’ve seen guys that that’s just the outlier year, right? Like guys just, you know, just have a bad year over the course of their career and then that’s that and then they get back to playing 70 plus games a season. If that’s the case for Herb Jones, perfect. If he’s giving you, you know, 70 games, 70 plus games a season, then Lakers are in great shape long term, but you do have the concerns of like, hey, if you know, is this the beginning of things? Because we’ve also seen guys kind of have that. So, there would be a little bit of a risk. Nothing that I think would deter me from getting him, right? But I do think, you know, it’s something that at least is worth mentioning, something that should be brought up, kind of looked at. Um, but you look at like what he what he did. Last year again was his roughest season just because again he only played 20 games and it so we’ll get into last year and then I want to talk about the previous year because I think that that’s better a better sample size. But played 20 games 20 games started 32.4 minutes per game. 8.6 field goal attempts per game. Shot 43.1 or 43.6% from the floor. From three-point range on 3.6 6 attempts. He shot 31% which isn’t great by any stretch of the imagination, but he is a career 36.6. So basically 37% um career three-point shooter on three attempts. Uh two-point range he shot 53% which again was the lowest of his career on five attempts. Um free throw shooting was 82 and a half%. So he’s always been a good free throw shooter. He is a career 82 and a half% guy. Two attempts. He grabbed four rebounds, 3.3 assists, two steals, half a block, and 10.3 points per game. But if you look at the previous year uh with uh the Pelicans, 76 games played, 76 games started, 31 minutes per game, so 1 minute shy or a minute and a half shy. Um took 7.7 field goal attempts per game, so one fewer field goal attempt, but shot 50% from the floor on 3.6% from or 3.6 six three-point attempts, which is the same number of attempts to the dot. Um, he shot 42% from three-point range. Um, two-point range on four attempts, so basically one attempt less, he shot 56.8% from two-point range. EFG of just under 60%. Uh, and then free throw shooting, two attempts, same thing, but shots 86.7%. Um, rebounds, uh, 3, uh,6 rebounds, basically roughly the same. assist, just under three, steals, one and a half, and then a full block that year with 11 points. Couple things you got to keep in mind, too. Last season, again, Deontay Murray goes down, so they don’t have like their playmaker. They don’t have like Herb Jones, Trey Murphy. I talked about the same thing. Like Trey Murphy exploded onto the scene, but he also like some of his percentages were not great, but a lot of it was he had to self-create so much, right? Same thing with Herb Jones. Like there were stretches and times where like he was like the guy, right? So he had to like, you know, self-create more where he’s going to be slotted alongside Luca long term. And if you do keep Ocar Luca and Oscar long term and so the the creation that they’re going to be able to create the the the attention that they’re going to be able to draw and kick out talking Herb Jones I think will be closer maybe not 42% but I think he’ll be closer you know 38 to 40% playing alongside Luca longterm playing alongside guys again if you keep an Austin Reeves Austin Reeves to where you’re going to be able to have that guy that can you know be reliable defend basically one through four for you. um he’s one of the more versatile defenders in basketball, a guy that can, you know, really again be a foundation piece. And now you start really carving out your your roster long term. Now you got a Herb Jones, you got a Luca Donic, you got a, you know, DeAndre Eaton. If like I mentioned, keeping Austin Reeves, go get that other wing defender, that three and D guy, you know, you could be cooking all of a sudden. Now the Lakers could be one of those best teams. So if obviously there’s a couple factors. one, do the Pelicans actually shop him and look for look to trade him, which I believe that they would. It’s just what’s the asking price would be number two then, right? Because they already were looking and considering trading him. So, if you know, very rarely do you, you know, shop a guy and then go like, ah, we’re just never going to trade him, right? It just means that you didn’t find what you wanted. And if that thing in that package comes around that you like, then, yeah, sure, we’ll take we’ll make that deal. with the Lakers kind of, you know, I I would rather overpay for Herb Jones than give than give the the package that currently like if we had to give say a first, you know, Ruie a first and you know, two pick swaps or something like that, right? I’d rather do that like Dalton Connect, Ruie a first and two pick swaps. I’d rather do that for Herb Jones personally. Some might feel differently, but I’d rather do that for Herb Jones than give up, you know, Ruie Dalton Connect, Gabe Vincent, and a first for Andrew Wiggins. I’d rather I’d rather overpay for Herb Jones because again, he’s your answer now at the three four essentially Luca’s entire tenure. And he’s going into a new extension. So, you’d have him locked up for basically uh you know, at least the next four plus years, right? So, you’re in you’d be in great shape uh and kind of, you know, starting to build out and round out this roster and then now you’re just kind of filling in pieces whenever LeBron decides to depart or whatever. Now, you’re just looking to to slot somebody in at the four. Um, you know, like I said, maybe it’s an adoro, maybe it’s somebody else that, you know, you end up getting in free agency or something or, you know, maybe you pull off, you know, a Giannis trade or something. And I also think Herb Jones, if you were like, let’s say you could trade for a Jokic or you could trade for a Giannis or something, I think Herb Jones would have more value in that potential trade than a Andrew Wiggins or Ruby Hachimura, right? So now you could be like, hey, especially if you keep if you do keep Austin Reeves and Giannis becomes available now, it’s like, hey, we can give you Austin Reeves, we can give you Herb Jones plus, you know, in the offseason two more first. So we give you those two plus, you know, if you want to, you know, whatever do the or something like that, here you go. I try to probably keep a dude Theo, but like get the point. Like you have just a much better package that now you can present in a trade for a Jokic, in a trade for uh, you know, a Giannis, especially the Bucks who they can’t t like they can’t bottom out. They don’t have control over any of their picks. So they might be interested in something where they get a Reeves and a Herb Jones to kind of upgrade the roster long term. Lakers need wing depth. specifically 3&D wing depth. Lakers Trade for Herb Jones would be ideal and after recent Lakers News of Luka Doncic comments about Jones. Lakers Nation could see a New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Lakers Trade.

Pretty long video for something that is not going to happen
Why would the Pelicans trade with the Lakers?? Other teams could offer much better packages.
Rui, DK, Gabe, Maxi 1st and 2nd for Herb, Trey and Missi
The way you say โyoungโ is wild!!!๐
He signed a new deal so can they even trade for him this season and when
Austin Reeves, Rui, K4, and a 1st for Trey Murphy?? ๐๐๐
I wonder if AR is worth as much to any other team as he is to the Lakers. I bet after this next season he will be, but by then LA loses any trade of course. I dont know if any other team considers him a must get now. He's more of a wait and see. But what do yall think? Any team GMs in here that want him?๐
You and the other Lakertube fellas should start a new Around the Horn type of show. Could have mainstays and rotating guest. Either way, even though I pay for ESPN and NBA League Pass, i just end up listening to all of yall and never watch that uniformed, uninspired garbage. Theyre definitely paying the wrong people.
Broom closet diaries
Ignore all these posts. These guy knows nothing he speaks out of his ass
Always trying to trade Austin Reaves. Smh
Herb Jones is only making 13.9 million this season. Ever team in the NBA would trade for him. Good Luck ๐.
This dude always got austin reeves on the trade block
BRO WE GOT VANDO AND SMART BOTH ARE LOCK DOWN WE NEED POINTS AND DEFENSE REALLY SO HERB IS BETTER THEN AR AND SMART AND VANDO WE WONT NEED THEM IF WE GET JONES
Live reactions during major events boost real-time visibility
Idiot
If Lakers can trade for Lauri Markkanen, and Herb Jones itโs over for the league. Lauri Markkanen and Ayton play the Paul Gasol and Andrew Bynum role. Herb Jones plays the Trevor Arizaโs role. Luka plays Kobeโs role. The rest is ice on the cake.
AR is the weak link in the starting lineup because of inconsistent shooting and traffic cone defense during the PLAYOFFS. Every Laker YouTuber except for you and Lakers Lounge say the truth about AR being a great regular season player and has been awful in the last two playoffs for us. Heโs not helping when it matters most, and the playoffs is what matters most!
I think we have to develop a 2 way player because having a shooting guard like austin is important since lebron is leaving soon, maybe not austin exactly but id rather have austin develop a twoway player than trade all our assets to get herb and then were stuck with a roster than cant improve much more and in my opinion not a good defensive big and no secondary shot creator.
How about if they just leave things alone. I would love to have Rui And Knecht on this team.
Get LeBron off the team
