Blue Jays vs. Rays Game Highlights (9/17/25) | MLB Highlights

Three teams in the national league have already clinched playoff spots. Milwaukee Chicago and Philadelphia. No teams in the American League have the Toronto Blue Jays. Magic number is three. Things really are going rather well for the Blue Jays of late winners of six in a row. They’re now five up on the New York Yankees in the A L East four up on the Detroit Tigers for the best record in the American League left hander, Ian Seymour, take a look at his season numbers and he’s done a little bit of everything work. That is a bulk guy. He’s made three starts. This obviously will be his fourth, the record of three and two outstanding, er, a of 295 a good whip there of 1.10. George Springer working his way to the batter’s box from the right side of the plate. The veteran having a standout year at 36 years of age line to left a base hit night after night after night. George Springer keeps delivering and that’s his seventh game in a row now with a hit, he came in with a six game hit streak and now he’s extended it in his first plate appearance tonight. He has hit very well again. Left handed pitching. This season comes in hitting 341 against the South. There’s a high fly ball center field Simpsons making the call, but it’s going to be Pereira who makes the catch. Now, Alejandro Kirk catching and hitting in the cleanup spot batting 291 and the high popper right side Seymour out there for first. Bob makes the catch good job by Bob Seymour as good job also by Ian Seymour works around a leadoff single by Sprinker. Now the bottom of the first with kevin Gausman heading to the mound and it appears that Brian on Nora is under the weather, the home plate umpire, he had to lead just before the beginning of the bottom of the first. So what happens here is the first base umpire becomes the home plate umpire and Then you play with three umpires home 1st and 3rd and they kind of share the responsibilities and Esterbrook ran down the line and kind of out from the field and we haven’t seen him since. Hopefully he’s back. You and I have seen this many, many times. This is usually a 10 to 15 minute procedure. Hopefully it’s serious for Onora , maybe just a little bit under the weather. We have a new home plate umpire , mike brooks has the gear on. Kevin Gossman is back to the mound throwing his eight warm up pitches. And we are moments away from resuming this game here in the bottom of the first. After all of that waiting, we’re set to go. Here is Chandler Simpson that’s a base hit to the safe in there. And there’s a perfect example, fastball after fastball after fastball after fastball and Chandler Simpson, a really good line drive hitter, finally, he’s going to time it up, get one that he can handle, just gets the bat up there, hit the ball where it’s pitched and Then use your speed to get into scoring position. And here is Yandy Diaz and that’s a foul by just inside the first base. Back down to the corner. Simpson scores stops at first and the Rays break out in front again. The Rays lineup, any lineup going out there to face Kevin Gausman, you know what you’re going to get. He throws two pitches, you’re not going up there looking for slider. It’s fastball, split another fastball there. There’s Yani typical six of 11 in his career against Gosman Gray in 22 games for the Rays hitting 264 3 home runs. There is a swing and a Miss Gosman punches out Gray back to back strikeouts to end the bottom of the first rays get a run though. Nobody on second inning comes nick Fortes, a ground ball to the right side has a base hit. Did you see the body language of kevin? He gets really bad contact the other way on a ground ball and there’s just no defense there because Schneider’s pulled up the middle, that ball up and in or up middle, it ended up getting in and he’s like really rookie Bob Seymour, 1/13 round pick a few years back. Big slugger at AAA. This year there goes the runner and it’s lined and caught by Clement and he’ll just put the tag on Fortes for the unassisted double play. The runner going brought Clement closer to second and that’s an inning ending double play. That is low ball four and a leadoff walk exactly what you want to do when you’re facing the number nine hitter. Yans had a fantastic series. He’s now up to 297 and it hits Williams and deflects Williams hit by that line drive and, and that’s the first thing you’re concerned about, but this is what you’re talking about. Let it get deep laser for him to go right in the ribs. Oh, man. Well, he took that like a champ. There’s nowhere for him to go. So two down and here’s cro swing and a miss strike three cam and Arrow is put away a strikeout for Gosman to make it a scoreless inning around hit and one left on base, 10 raised, not close at all and he’ll draw the leadoff walk, walks in homers. What he’s about offensively. He is pretty good at both 30th of the season now for Snyder, he starts things off and brings Glad guerrero to the play and now a grounder to short and a wide throw goes into right field. The Blue Jays catch a huge break as Williams, the shortstop threw it past second into right and instead of a likely double play , it’s 1st and 3rd nobody out 1st and 3rd, Alejandro Kirk driven to deep center Simpson back at the wall made the catch Chandler Simpson with an incredible catch to take what would have been a three run home run away from her as it is. It’s a long loud sack fly to tie the game, but it could have been much more. Now, you got two outs on two pitches and you’re forcing Chandler Simpson to have to take a bunch here. There’s a light up the right side warning track on his way to second and he has his second double of the night. You Yandy Diaz after Simpson got to the splitter there with a base hit giving the Rays the lead as well as Chandler runs and he takes all four down two men on now and Junior Cabana is going to be coming to the plate and the 32, he got it made a big pitch when he really needed it three straight splitters to strike out Crow and end the fifth inning bottom seven low scoring affair tied at one. Kevin Gossman, six good innings one run allowed. And now here’s Ariel Rodriguez Williams has walked and grounded out one strike to count on him. Lift it in the left center field that’s going to be in there. Extra bases for Williams who’s headed to second base and will stop with a double snaps in zero for 19 for Carson Williams and puts the go ahead running scoring position. Chandler Simpson has two doubles , two for three tonight side the medal. Here comes Williams underscore Chandler Sson with his third. Gives the Rays a two to Chandler Simpson continues to spray the ball all over the field line drive after line drive and he’s having himself a night tonight including the go ahead RB. I, here we head to the top of the ninth inning. Last chance for the Blue Jays beat Fairbanks on the hill now. So here’s Ty France strike 397 at the knees and it, and the Rays are winners three up, three down. It’s a 2 to 1 final, third straight one run game here in this series, the Blue Jays got the first two but the Rays get tonight by a score of 2 to 1, just four hits on the night for the Blue Jays offense and they’ll try to win a series with Chris Bassitt on the mound tomorrow afternoon.

  1. Jonathan Aranda was said to be returning to the major leagues in mid to late September, but what does that look like at this point?๐ŸŒฎ

  2. 2nd place Yankees is 85-67 meaning the BEST they can do if they win out is 95-67, but I highly doubt the Yankees win out the rest of the way. Same holds true for the Tigers who are also 85-67 and like the Yankees I highly doubt the Tigers also win out to finish at 95-67. So long as the Blue birds win every series the rest of the way, they will have a 95 win season and 95 wins clinches both the AL East and the number 1 seed in the AL as well. So the 1 seed is under the Blue Jays control.

  3. Looking at the standings, even if the Blue Jays lose tomorrow, so long as they win every series, that is win 2 out of 3 in KC, win 2 out of 3 at home against Boston and win 2 out of 3 at home against Tampa, the Blue Jays will finish with a regular season record of 95-67 and 95-67 not only clinches the division but also the number 1 seed in the AL as well.

  4. Blue Jays did what they HAD to do in Tampa and that is to get a series split. Now onwards to KC with two MUST WIN games on Friday and Saturday with Shane Beiber starting Friday night and rookie Trey Yesavage starting on Saturday.
