Hello, welcome to Locked on Sharks, the premier hockey podcast covering your favorite team in the Bay Area. My name is JD Young, caretaker at the reef, also the co-host of Locked on NHL. If you want to be an everyday, all you have to do just follow along wherever you get podcast. And of course, you can watch on YouTube as well. And today we’re going to be going over the San Jose Sharks training camp roster, get to know some new names, uh who, you know, we’re going to look at all the forwards, the goalies, the defense, um try out players, all that fun stuff. So, uh as well as uh why you shouldn’t panic if the Sharks haven’t named any captains as of yet. Uh because one, there’s plenty of time to do it. So, before we get to all that, do want to let you guys know that today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Download the FanDuel app now by visiting fanduel.com and win $300 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins. So, uh we finally have a roster. It is media day today. So, the Sharks uh all the Sharks players coming in getting their photos taken, uh filming, you know, the goal celebrations, all that fun stuff. You’ll see all the uh fun stuff throughout the year as these guys um kind of did all that media day stuff today. Tomorrow is the actual first day of camp. Uh we don’t have the uh like how they’re going to split it up yet like how all the players are going to be split up because they’re split up into uh three groups where they’ll have basically the practice scrimmage uh like two of the groups will scrimmage against each other and but all three groups will practice and they kind of rotate it. Uh and then basically what’ll happen is um sometime probably middle of next week you’ll start to see your first kind of cuts as they get to the uh Barracuda like uh guys who are going to be on the Barracuda and then they start their scrimmage you know kind of their training camp and you’ll start to see players get sent back to their juniors all that fun stuff. So u but right now it is a very full roster like this is um you know most of of the Sharks prospects are here with the exception of like guys overseas uh like Leo Sal and Wenius who started his season over um in the SHL. Guys are off to college uh or like college eligible guys like those guys are not here of course because uh that just kind of messes with your eligibility a little bit. So um so they have you know it is a pretty full house of who is here uh and who is going to be in training camp. This is a good also for these especially for the prospects uh where they can kind of get some final notes and stuff like that like this what you know the the coaches get to work with them um and then you know before they get sent back to their junior team or whatever here’s what we kind of want you to work on throughout the year and that way they kind of have you know something some homework for them. uh as they and then they’ll have their check-ins and stuff throughout the year. But let’s start with the forwards because that’s the natural place to start. Uh so here is the list of forwards. We’ll go through the whole name and then we’ll kind of go through uh some of the intriguing players and and guides to watch and kind of etc etc. So um the forward group uh this is alphabetically by last name. Igor Aasv, Shane Bowers, Philip B said, Ethan Cardwell, Mlin Celerini, Igor Sherneshoff, who switched his number, officially switched his number to 92, uh, Ty Dandria, uh, William Ecklund, Adam Goddard, Patrick Giles, Barkley Goodro, Colin Graph, Carl Grundstrom, Casper Holston, uh, Max Heis, Donovan HL, uh, Jimmy Huntington, uh, Philip Kurichev, Samuel Learge, Camela, Michael Misa, Quinton Musty, Teddy Merchin, uh Oscar Olison, Zack Oapchuk, uh Ryan Reeves, uh Pavl Regenda, Jeff Skinner, Will Smith, Tyler Tofoley, Lucas Van Ro, um Anthony Vincent, uh Oliver Walstrom, uh Alex Wenberg, Carson Wet, and then Colin White. So, bunch of names there. Um, so the player like kind of the key players or players to know uh as we kind of go through this whole process of uh again people who are going to be fighting for training camp spots, people all that fun stuff. Um I I think though for the Sharks like we we know the big names, right? Cabbrinis, uh Smiths, your Eklans, like those guys who are going to make the roster. I I think the kind of the first thing I’m watching in this group is who gets the first crack to play with like we know the top we know five of the six players right in the top six right uh with Celibbrini Eklan uh Tofoley Will Smith Jeff Skinner who gets the first crack to fill that other six spot right and the guys you’re kind of looking at for that um Philip Currish Chev I I think Adam Goddet um maybe the Sharks Michael Misa of course you know is going to be in the mix as well. You know who is getting the first crack at at one of those spots that top six spot I think is something definitely to watch among the forward group here. Flipping down to the bottom six, we kind of talked about this last week, right? Is, you know, there’s a bunch of names in there. And some of the guys I’m keeping an eye on, especially these bubble guys, right? Eigor Aaness, who you know, the Sharks, he’s traded for u last uh season, came over or didn’t come over, he stayed over in the KHL, came back this year and is looking to crack the NHL, right? guy like Igor Aison and you always kind of to what numbers that you lot these guys and ASV has a 11 which is like a good number right usually uh guys are want numbers that are kind of in the lower range and uh giving a guy number 11 usually means you’re uh you you’re going to have them in the mix here right instead like guys like in the 50s are usually kind of like rookies um and then guys in the 90s are usually tryyout players typically So, um, unless you get some guys just like those numbers, but anyway, that’s that’s kind of the code, right? Um, but yeah, guys like Igor Aison, you know, you’re going to have guy like the main stays like Carl Grundstrom, um, Barkley Goodro, how does a rookie like Colin Graph look? Where does he get placed to kind of start things here? Um, you know, a guy like Cam Lund, another rookie who’s going to be coming in. And then, you know, Oliver Walstrom, who the Sharks signed to a PTO in an AHL deal, where does he kind of get his first crack at here? Like, is he gonna get an opportunity or they they think he’s going to be an AHL type of guy? And if he is, he’ll probably play with guy like some of the younger guys like the Must Beasts or your Colin White or some veteran guys like Colin White, etc. Guys you kind of know are going to be in the AHL. So, I think those are going to be the the big things to look at is kind of who’s paired with who to start with, right? Um because these are like, you know, Ryan Worski’s had all summer to think about it, right? And kind of tinker and he probably has an idea of how he wants this to go. So we’ll this is I think this is kind of when you see team like kind of what Waros is thinking very early on and then guys who play well or perform up to you know perform better than expectations kind of get moved up and guys who may aren’t they get shifted down a little bit. So uh you know I I do think like this is the the first look when we get the uh the actual lines. This is going to be the first look of what Ryan Warski is thinking. uh and where he has everybody kind of slotting in here to at least begin things. So, um but yeah, I think the the bottom six there’s going to be just a ton of dudes. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of moving parts there with so many people um in the mix, you know, and I even mentioned guys like Zacko Stopruck, Patrick Giles, like guys who are 100% going to be in the mix for their those spots. Um, and where does where do they kind of fit in into at least Ryan Warsovsk’s initial thinking? So, um, we’re going to look at the back end. Uh, we have a try out player, uh, and Jack Bar there. So, we’ll kind of talk about him a little bit more. Uh, we’ll look at the goalies. Uh, kind of look at who’s going to be sticking around with the goalenders, who’s going to be heading back to their respective junior leagues, all that fun stuff. Uh, so we’ll get to that here in just one second. The NFL season is here and FanDuel’s making sure you’re ready for kickoff with a can’tmiss offer. Right now, new customers can bet just $5. If your bet wins, you’ll get $300 of bonus bits to use across the app. Uh FanDuel’s great because they can uh fit however you like to play, whether it’s player props. Uh Josh Allen versus the Dolphins. Uh just just all the overs. Josh Allen uh dominates Miami. Uh and yeah, I’m I’m not feeling great about this game on Thursday night. Uh or uh they have if you want to build a same game parlay uh or even jump in live action as the game unfolds, they got you covered there. It’s quick and easy and the best way to add a little bit more energy to Sundays. So, if you’re ready to start playing, download the FanDuel app now by visiting fanduel.com to get started. That’s fanduel.com to place your first $5 bet. All right, guys. Before we continue, do of course want to thank you for making Locked on Sharks your first listen. If you haven’t yet, perfect time to subscribe. Um, as we are training camp is here, we have preseason games starting on Sunday. Uh, yeah, hockey season’s here. So, uh, make sure you’re following along wherever you get podcasts. And of course, you can watch on YouTube as well. All right. Um, defense and goalies. So, there is a couple guys here. There’s a new guy here, uh, who was part of the Sharks rookie training camp um, in Jack Bar. will get to know him a little bit more as well. Um, and plenty of, you know, plenty of of intrigue along the blue line because, uh, there’s a lot of, uh, a lot of pieces for not a lot of spots here, uh, for for the Sharks. So, uh, so let’s get to it. um defensively. So we have again alphabetically uh by last name Jack Bar, Noah Beck, Luca Canyone, Lucas Carlson who switched numbers from 36 last year to 32 this year. So keep that in mind. Uh Cole Clayton, Vincent Darren, Sam Dickinson, Mario Ferraro, Jake Furlong, John Gormley. Uh it doesn’t have a number right now which is interesting. Um, Artum Girv, Braden Hashe, uh, John Clingberg, Nick Ley, Timothy Ljigran, Shakir Mukadullan, Dmitri Olaf, Jack Thompson, and how she W. So, we’ll start with those and we’ll get to the goalenders. So, um, we’ll get quickly kind of crash course uh, on your new defenseman here uh, who’s going to be in the mix. I assume this is probably the same thing where if he plays well, uh, Mr. bar will probably earn an AHL contract and uh maybe he starts in the ECL, maybe he plays uh AHL games, but I would s presume that’s probably going to be the way that he goes. So, Jack Bar uh former Dallas Stars pick of the 20 back in the 21 2021 draft. Uh fifth round pick there, 6 foot2, 209 pounds right-handed shot. Uh so that’s very good as the Sharks look to add more right-handed player uh defensively players, but not much production with with Harvard. So he played for the last four seasons with Harvard. Um he has a career high or career or uh he had two goals uh in his career at Harvard. So offensive production is not going to be his thing. Uh he was the captain for Harvard last year, 25 games, three assists during that time. Um and his careerhigh in points is six. Like this is not like a guy who’s uh driving offense for for you. So that’s not kind of where he his bread and butter is. So uh came up through, you know, he played in the USL with the Chicago Steel during the 202021 season. um and then was uh in the college or uh kind of high school college circuit as well before going to the USHL and then uh the NCAA for the past four seasons. So, and then clearly the Dallas Stars did not retain his rights after um after he was uh drafted and finished his college career. So, try out guy here um for for San Jose. So, we’ll see where he kind of ends up if he ends up sticking around. So, uh, as the Sharks look to add more depth on their blue line here, or at least the Barracuda look to add more depth on their blue line. So, um, the big, you know, I think for S guys to kind of watch for San Jose, of course, uh, you know, Sam Dickinson definitely stands out, right, for for San Jose is, uh, the big story is, you know, if if Dickinson can crack the not only crack the NHL, but stick around past the nine games, right? because it does it’s it’s I would say it’s pretty safe to say Dickinson’s going to be here when the Sharks break camp. Uh just because you want like he want they want to see him in NHL action. Um and it doesn’t hurt to just have him around, right? And worst case scenarios if he doesn’t perform, you send him back to the OHL. We’ll see you at the end of the season uh once you go destroy over in London, right? So he’s a big, you know, where does Heap get placed? who’s his partner to begin with. Like those are big things cuz like if you know Dickinson is paired with a guy like a Mario Ferraro or a Timothy Lilant like one of these mainstay guys that’s a that’s a big kind of commitment out of San Jose as you’re trying to establish chemistry early on you know or does he get placed with a guy who’s maybe more in the bubble like a Jack Thompson type of player. Um you know like I think that is who his partner is initially. I’m really intrigued to kind of see who that guy is. So, some of the other guys, right, we we know the guys who are going to, you know, definitely make the team. Uh I’m curious to see like up top who’s Orlav’s partner to start with. Is it Clingberg? Um or is it like a guy like Muka Mullan or like who who’s the who’s Orlav’s partner to begin things? And same thing with like Muka Madan, who’s his partner to begin with things? like those are some of the guys I’m really keeping an eye on uh tomorrow when when we get kind of the initial this is how I want things to look. So among guys you know the bubble guys like we talked a little bit like Jack Thompson, Luca Ken Yoni, I know Thompson he’s going to be in that position where if he doesn’t make the team the Sharks are going to have to try to sneak him through waiverss. Um, you know, it sounds like from Shang, you know, reading Shang, he had an article about Thompson recently or mentioned Thompson and he feels like it’s pretty safe the Sharks will be able to get Thompson through waiverss, but you never know. So, um, but like I he’s like, you know, those bubble guys, um, how do they perform, right? And then even the Barracuda guys, like who kind of gets paired together right away. I’m also Artum Girv which is a little interesting because last year in the ECL he was playing forward and now it looks like he’s back to playing defense. Uh still a guy I think like his ceiling is like an AHL type of of player. Uh but it is a little interesting that he’s moved back to defense there. So, um, for the goalies, uh, the Sharks have, uh, seven goalies that they have in camp. Of course, Yarov Ascarov, Gabe Kerier, Matt Davis, Christian Kersh, Alexander Dulkovich, Joshua Ravensburg, and Jacob Scharik. Um, we know Kersh and Ravensburgen are going to be going back to their junior teams, right? Um, as one, neither one of these guys are eligible. Actually, I think Kersh could play in the HL, but he’s not like he’s going to the OHL like he’s like he and then he’s going to be going to college here. Like he not anywhere near uh kind of sticking around. But I am like with Ravensburg and especially, how long do they keep him around? You know, like do they keep him until like one of the last cuts before sending him back uh to the WHL? because you know there’s there’s no like he again like for him it’s NHL or or he has to go back to the W but how long do they keep him around right like is he want to is he here for like a week or two and like hey go you know go tear it up in the W we’ll see you later like have a good season or you know do they kind of keep him around we kind of know where everybody else is really stacked up at right it’s Ascarov um then it’s going to be Nadulkovic um then Jacob Sharick uh Gabe Kerier and Matt D. like we kind of know the order here and especially for a guy like Matt Davis who’s on an AHO only deal. We we kind of know the order. So, um, we we know like early on they’ll kind of rotate goalies and stuff like that in the preseason, but as they get closer to the actual start of the season, like they want some of these guys like Ascrov and Adelkovic to kind of take on a little bit more of the load before the season starts and the preseason games to kind of get ready. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if like Kersh is is sent back pretty early. Um, but I’m sure like Davis and Kerier um, and Sharic will will hang around and then like those guys will probably like one of those guys will probably hang around for a little bit um, before the end. But I think a lot of that kind of depends on on what the Sharks plans are with with Joshua Ravensburg. And so um, that’s the Sharks roster right there. That is that’s everybody right now. So um, plenty of, you know, plenty of intrigue. Again, I’m like really excited about this. I know I know wins aren’t there’s going to be some more wins hopefully this year uh and it’s not just going to be a playoff team but it does feel like we’re starting to hopefully turn the corner see a light at the end of the tunnel. There’s going to be plenty of losses and stuff but it does like I’m really this is probably the most excited I’ve been about the season uh since I I think I’ve started here at Lockdown Sharks. So, um, but yeah, we’re going to talk about the captains because I know, uh, there was some, uh, we’ll say terror, I think it’s a good word. Worry, uh, because none of the players had letters. Um, so don’t panic, guys. We’ll get to that here in just one second. Most people can’t name all their financial accounts or even what they’re worth, whether it’s 401ks, properties, or investments. So, we had, you know, crumbs, as the girls like to say, uh, of photos on the internet from the boys, uh, you know, from media day. And one thing was missing, right? Um, nobody, even Mario Ferraro, you know, Tyler Tofoley, uh, nobody had letters on their sweaters. So, no captains, no alternate captains, nothing like that, right? Uh, and it feels like the Sharks are are going to probably name a captain, maybe name a captain as they’re one of the two teams, uh, them and the Bruins who currently don’t have a captain, especially now with, uh, Logan Couture’s medical retirement. Still not retired, but his inability to play hockey anymore. Um, and we talked about it, you know, earlier this week on on the turning of the page and kind of looking forward as an organization now, especially with Couture not here anymore and plastic not here and just kind of starting to, you know, move towards this new direction, right? You don’t want to forget your past. We we love what Couture and Vic and all those guys did for us, right? But, um, you know, you you have to if you love something, you have to let it go. and move and moving forward as a organization, as a fan base, as everything uh with the new guys, right? And there’s plenty to be excited about, right? Uh Mlin Celibbrini uh looks looks like he’s going to be pretty good. I The Athletic had him as voted I think that they the Athletic put out an article today that had him uh the players voted him as the most likely to be the uh next face of the league, right? like celebrating. He’s really good. Uh and he’s going to be very good and he’s going to be that type of guy where people want to play with him. But the Sharks are going to be naming, you know, new alternate captains and captains here at some point. And don’t worry that nobody’s got a letter right now cuz right in this day like there’s going to be a whole production thing, right? Like I mean teams can’t even release a new jersey without like a video and a breakdown and all that stuff. Like the Sharks aren’t just going to like you know like show up and be like hey uh you know Tofo’s got the C on him or Celebrity’s got the C on him like um they’re going to do like a whole thing about it right of like a whole production. and there’s going to be, you know, the cool lights and video and everything like that and you’re going to get super pumped up and then all of a sudden, you know, it’s going to be tofully or or who, you know, or celebrating. Uh last year they announced the leadership group on the 22nd uh September 22nd which was the first game preseason game. Sunday is the Sharks first pre-season game. Sunday the 21st. Um I do I am interested to see how and then I think the 22nd if I recall correctly they have the day off. So, um I expect them sometime again like Worski probably knows who’s going to be in the leadership group um at this point, right? Uh maybe they want to let it play out a little bit for, you know, guys like Orv or Skinner or, you know, maybe some of these new guys to kind of come in and um try to, you know, set the tone or whatever. But we we we we kind of got a clue, you know, got a feeling of of the guys who are probably going to be in the mix for it, right? And you know, some guys like Ferrar like Ferrar is definitely going to have a letter again. Like we talked about this the other day. Um but like a guy like Eklan, right? Or if they want to give Celebrity an A if he’s not wearing the C or like they probably have an idea of it and these guys have probably already been approached about it and stuff. So like it’ll happen. I I’m gonna say uh we’ll probably know by Tuesday next week. That’s my guess. Like we’ll probably know by then on on who’s going to be the captain. So maybe they’ll announce it on Sunday. Uh if they don’t, like I said, I think Monday they have the day off. You announce it on Tuesday, right? Your captain, whoever, he can meet with the media for the first time during practice or after practice, right? you know, like after uh practice, talk to the media about responsibilities, all that fun stuff. Like they’ll probably parade them all out there. Like there there’ll be a whole thing, guys. So, uh yes, I’m not worried. Don’t worry. Take a deep breath. We got plenty of time. Maybe if they don’t name it till before the season starts, that’s cool, too. So, if you want to take your time and let guys kind of uh you know, figure things out here a little bit in training camp. But again, I I we kind of have a feeling who we think it’s going to be. It’s probably just kind of figuring out the last guys here and and if the Sharks do want to name a captain at this point or if they want to lay let it vacant until they feel celebr. So, uh anyway, that’s going to be it for me today. Uh we’ll be back tomorrow where we are definitely going to overreact to uh who’s paired with who. Uh why is Sam Dickinson paired with this guy? Uh, what are we doing with Michael Misa playing with this guy? Uh, we’re definitely not going to do that. Wink wink. We totally are tomorrow. So, make sure you guys are following along wherever you get podcast. And of course, you can watch on YouTube as well. Follow the show on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and on Tik Tok, console manabanga dude. Uh, plus uh you can follow me on Twitter and Blue Sky Fryhole. So uh make sure you guys are following along wherever you get podcast and of course you can watch on YouTube all this fun stuff. Uh yeah, till tomorrow. Bye friends.

7:17 you say Collin graf is a rookie come on JD you know enough sharks hockey to know he played more than 25 games last year.
What about carry price Cary price
Eklund-Celebrini-Toffoli
Skinner-Misa-Smith
Kurashev-Wennberg-Gaudette
Wahlstrom-Dellandrea-Graf
Reserves:
Reaves,Goodrow,Grundstrum
Dickinson-Orlov
Klingberg-Ferraro
Liljegren-Leddy
Reserves:
Mukhamadullin,Deharnais, Thompson
Thats probably the lineup i'd like to try coming out the gates…I wouldn't mind trying to trade out Liljegren for a legit 4C
26:12 Toffoli is the easy C for the next couple years (the remainder of his contract), then give it to Celebrini when Toff’s contract is up.. Cele will be 22 or so, perfect time to hand it over.
The more interesting question is who are the A’s for this year?
Ferraro will be an A, so that leaves maybe one more.. does Celebrini get an A in his 2nd year? Wennberg for the 2nd year in a row?
Wennberg & Ferraro are in their last year of their contracts (possibly both traded this yr). That leaves 2 open A’s at the deadline.
Whatever we do can we please be done with Goodrow. Nothing personal, it’s just time to move on.
Interesting to see if our team can get this captain thing right for once. I trust Mike G, he’s always on point with his decisions.
I just hope that Dellandrea and Grundstrom aren’t breaking camp with the team. I could throw Goodrow in there too, but they are all negative assets that won’t be asked to come back when their contracts up and there are plenty of younger and better players on the roster or even some AHL guys like Graf, Cardwell and Lund that we have seen make noticeable impacts in their short time with the team. I suspect the bottom six will largely come down to who is waivers exempt and who is not.
You need some gritty players that cab sandpaper anf fight. Goodrow is needed intil some younger guys can step up. Who is your fighter? Reeves?
Sharks need young defense prospects that can replace 1 year contract vets.
Thanks JD! Wake me up when they choose a captain… or not. Just let me sleep
