Dickinson and Misa SPEARHEAD Sharks’ Incredible Rally At Golden State Rookie Faceoff

You’re Locked on Sharks, your daily podcast on the San Jose Sharks, part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. Hello, welcome to Locked On Sharks, the premier hockey podcast covering your favorite team in the Bay Area. My name is JD Young, caretaker at the Reef, also the co-host of Locked on NHL. I want to thank you for making the Locked On Sharks your first listen, proudly part of the Lockdown Network. We cover your team every day. And if you want to be an everydayer, all you have to do just follow along wherever you get podcast. And of course, you can watch on YouTube as well. And today we are overreacting to the Sharks 8 to5 comeback win uh over the LA Kings at the Golden State rookie faceoff. Uh Michael Misa, Sam Dickinson leading the way. Uh we’re also talk about Colin Graph, why he should be 100% a full-time NHLer and other players who really showed up today as the Sharks again complete the comeback. So, uh, let’s get started by kind of painting the picture of this game a little bit and and talk about Misa and Dickinson. Uh, the Sharks like 1 PM game after playing a night game last night, right? Um, you could the first period was was absolute garbage by the Sharks, right? Just sloppy play like all over the place. A lot of uh guys kind of just making poor decisions, right? That led to King’s goals, you know? uh even like even the very first goal, right? Uh a pinch by Sam Dickinson uh and the other defender doesn’t read it and the forwards don’t kind of get back in time. Uh like leads to a two and just a lot of 2011’s and a lot of uh poor Matt Davis just had no real chance there especially that first period. buy it. Um, credit to the Sharks who second period, um, you know, both the both the Kings and the Sharks make goalie changes halfway through as was planned, right, as they want to see their their young goalies and Christian Kirch comes in. But at that moment, the San Jose Sharks really found their game whenever they had that goalie change. Uh, scoring six unanswered goals to come back. Uh, and then they add a couple more at the end, including an empty netter from Carson Wedge. But, um, credit to the this Baby Sharks offense, which put up 14 goals in two games. Uh, that’s a solid week and a half for the regular San Jose Sharks. But, um, credit to them to finding their game and then kind of riding the momentum in the first, you know, in kind of the second half of the the second period and then really taking control of this game in the third period. But um Sam Dickinson and Michael Misa leading the way. Uh we’ll start with Misa who was outstanding today. And realistically, he ended it today. He had a goal and multiple assists. Like he could have very easily had a hat-tick. He was robbed on multiple occasions today uh of like just highlight reel robbery from the the goalending. Um, and he was just an absolute uh you you saw today especially what makes Michael Misa such a a dynamic player, right? Um, playing with pace. Uh, his ability to control and win puck battles and, you know, just kind of continually fight, right? Um, the assist that he had on um, it was on the second goal of the game. Uh, no, it was on the Halton and goal. the Holton goal, sorry. Um where it was the first goal of the game to kind of get things going where he fights off a board battle, fights to get the puck, um and then cuts towards the middle of the ice and has the vision to see a streaky Halton and crashing towards the net and puts the P. All Halton has to do is literally stop and put his stick down and it goes into the net. Um just so many little plays like that where whole where Misa is just you know his ability I the thing that kind of really impressed me the most today was Misa’s ability to kind of control and protect the puck um and then again use like use that time to then find other players right and like I know the goal scoring like Misa is a great goal scorer he he got he like I said he probably should had three goals today. He got absolutely robbed on two uh two grade A chances and finally got one after a really nice dish from Quinton Musty. But Misa’s like Misa was Misa and Dickinson were at the heart of this comeback and Sam Dickinson today with a goal and and three assists. Um what especially that that second second half of that second period, Dickinson really found his game, right? And you saw what Dick makes Dickinson so special. Um his ability to again play in all three zones, right? And carry the puck and uh he had a beautiful like where great read. He’s, you know, takes the puck go takes off with it and uh I think stole stole was the goalie at the time for um for the Kings. um makes a great save there like but Dickinson great read gets the puck over like a nice really great pass uh across ice pass uh to an open uh I’m forget who the forward was but still um Dickinson driving play there right Dickinson on with out Luca Kenyon say I really wanted to see how Dickinson would respond with the keys to the car after again first period was rough but that was rough for everybody but this team really found their groove and Dickinson was, I think, a big reason why this team really found their groove and was able to come back in this game. So, um, you have to be really happy with two of your star players in Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson being at the center of this comeback. And again, we are 100% overreacting today, right? uh about the San Jose Sharks in a rookie faceoff tournament in uh you know the middle of September. But this is what you want, right? You would rather them see see these guys play well than have struggle and maybe, you know, struggle with the pace, make dumb decisions, etc. like these guys every time they were on the ice the second half of the game. You like the the Sharks were were dominating the possession, they were the ones kind of grading offense uh and generating offense and like like I said, Misa and Dickinson were at the heart of this comeback. So, uh things you love to see uh from them. So, uh yeah, like I you know, hope now the hope for both these players, right? because both these players are uh major candidates to actually crack the Sharks roster coming out of training camp. Um the hope now is you can use this momentum as now the the competition is going to get better, right? As you go from playing, you know, rookies and guys who’ve maybe scratched the NHL, etc., etc., to like guys who are NHL players and how do you kind of use this momentum going forward into training camp and into preseason games because you know Dickinson and Misa are going to get a a lot of they’re going to get a lot of shine during these preseason games to see if they can stick around. So let’s see how they get these guys continue their growth and development. But um yeah, love to see love to see it. Uh we’re going to talk about Colin Graph here in a couple minutes. We’re also going to continue to talk about Michael or sorry about Quinton Musty who didn’t get as much on the score sheet but was super just as impactful uh today as well. So we’ll get to some of the other guys who uh I thought had great games as well in just one second. It starts this week. Um, so we got plenty of, you know, reactions to what happens at training camp. We got preseason games coming up and the season starts here in just a couple weeks. Uh so make sure you’re following along wherever you get podcast and of course you can watch on YouTube as well. Colin Graph uh certified cheat code in this game. Uh a guy who has you know half an season of NHL experience. Uh what you saw that the intelligence from Colin Graph constantly today. uh the Sam Dickinson goal at the end of the second period right in on the power play there where um you know Graph gets the puck there’s just a a mountain of bodies poor Quint Mussy just hanging in under there as he gets uh 100% gets tackled would have been a penalty there if the Sharks didn’t score but um he gets goes around goes for the wraparound realizes it’s not there and instead of just shooting like how often do we see guys just shoot the puck into a mess of bodies and there’s no room for them to one shoot at the puck or two any place for them to put the puck. No, he just sees Sam Dickinson hanging out, passes it to Dickinson who has a better angle and a better shot and Dickinson scores there. Um, Graph had two goals in this game and again was a huge huge part of the comeback as well. put um you that intelligence and like the my my favorite thing about Colin Graph is uh the puck always finds him, right? The puck always finds him is that’s because he’s such a smart player and is such a high IQ player and knows exactly what’s going to like that’s not an accident that the puck keeps finding him. Um he 100% should make this NHL roster uh because of his ability to be that kind of next doit all guy for the Sharks. You need somebody who can play on the PK. You need somebody can play on the power play. You need somebody who can be an asset at five on five. You need him to play some lock down defensive minutes. You need him to help generate offense. Colin Graph can do all that stuff for you and do it well. Um so great to see Colin Graph. Uh you know, again, they they usually send like one one kind of veteran, one guy’s got some NHL experience um to these things. And I thought graph uh graph really showed himself as like, you know, I think as a player who’s going to be on his way to an NHL onto the Sharks NHL roster. So, and he he does not need any more time in the AHL. Like he’s an NHL player right now. Uh full-time NHL player. other guys, uh, Quint Musty, who we we talked about earlier, uh, you know, mentioned earlier, but Quint Musty again, not as much on the score sheet today, but continued that same kind of style of play, right? Um, driving offense, getting to the dirty areas like I just mentioned, got tackled on that goal and drew another drew at least two penalties today uh, because of that. Got into a sorry, excuse me, got into a bit of a he got into a fight. uh just need the goal for the Gordy How there. But uh Musty just continue like like I said yesterday, I think Musty is going to on a mission this offse this season to kind of just remind people like yeah, I’m pretty good and this is a nice step. I I still think Musty’s going to spend some time in the AHL and I I really hope he does to kind of continue to round out his game. But, uh, I think this is a really nice start for his off, you know, kind of the work he did this off season, a really nice start for training camp for him. He’s got to be feeling really good about his game and where he’s at, especially kind of compared to his peers. Um, I I think it’s you can make a very it’s a very easy case for the best player this weekend. Um, for for Quinton Musty, like Sam Dickson was good, Michael Misa was good, Colin Graph was good as well. Um, Musty Musty has a a very legitimate case to be the the best player on the ice for the Sharks this weekend. I think he was the best player on Friday night and he was really good today as well. Um, so good good for Musty. Um, some other guys who I thought played really well. Um, Matias Hav, I’m really excited to see him playing on the Barracuda this season and getting a full uh, year in San Jose after kind of, you know, spending last year half in the SHL, half in the hockey. uh getting a full year here and letting him develop. You see the offensive prowess and even when he m like he makes a mistake, he’s so smart and he’s so quick that he’s able to kind of overcome those mistakes and don’t let them compound into worse or catastrophic mistakes. You saw that on the blue line today where he um you know had a bit of a fumble which happens right with with defenseman occasionally and but he was so quick that he was able to instead of it turning into a twoon-one the other way he was able to shut it down regain control and get the Sharks going back going in the offensive zone. Had a nice goal today. Two very nice goals this weekend for for Matias Havlid. I’m super excited about seeing him. I thought Jake Furlong had a pretty solid uh game as well. um Hosshi Wong who got into a fight. That fight looked uh he that fight looked personal after a couple cross checks. That fight looked personal, but uh I thought he much calmer game today uh than what we saw on Friday. And again, that’s going to be part of the howi Wong experience as he continues his development. I’m really excited to see him next summer, how he looks after a full season in the OHL. um and kind of see how that his game kind of really progresses over the next year, but I I thought much much better game from him today. Granted, he missed a big chunk of it with his fight and then he got a 10-minute misconduct. Um but I thought he played well and Kristen Kersh uh really I I thought played really well and poor again poor Matt Davis had no chance with the way the Sharks are playing in front of him, but I thought Kersh came in and really settled things down. the one goal was a little bit of that he gave up was a little bit of a scramble drill here and it did help that the Sharks were uh doing a much better job of controlling the offense and controlling the pace of game. But Kersh made some big saves when he needed to. And I I for guy who had a weird year last year himself, I think has got a chance to go to the OHL this year and uh really kind of get his game going. uh what should be a very good Kitchener Rangers team because that that team’s always usually really good. So I’m I’m I’m feeling a lot better about Kersh than I did the beginning of the weekend after even I know it’s just again overreacting here. Um but I thought he looked really good as well. Carson Wetch continuing to do Carson Wetch things. Interesting. Sherneshaw playing on the third line today I think had a much quieter game. did have a very nice that very nice assist on the have led goal but I thought much quieter game from Sherneshaw today. Um so you know again like the Misa or not sorry the Musty Sherneshave debate over the kind of the past year. I think you got to definitely chalk up Musty as the winner this weekend uh between the two because I I think Musty was was the better player of them. But, uh, again, like they’re both going to be great players. So, uh, but overall, like you the one of the my my actually before we finish up, one of my favorite favorite things about this entire game, right, is the Sharks are up six to five and they give up a goal. They give up that one kind of, you know, uh, scramble goal that Kersh gives up and a couple minutes left, right? How often do you see teams like we’re going to protect this onegoal lead, we’re going to turtle, like you know, no. What do the Baby Sharks do? They go out there and they earn another goal. That was the the Matias Hav goal. They go out there and they push the offense and they earn that other goal to make it a two-goal game. And eventually Carson Wes gets the empty netter to make it a three-goal game. But that is my that is the whole defenses for Nerds. go score goals, right? Uh it’s better to continue to push for offense. Um because you we we I mean the Kings today, they had a fourgoal lead and then what happened? It it evaporated. Go score goals. Uh you can’t just sit on your hands in the NHL today. Go score goals. So anyway, uh overall though, you got to be feeling really great about about how the Sharks performed this weekend. all the big names, you know, Misa and Dickinson and Musty, uh, and I beet I thought had a really steady weekend as well. Uh, just all the big names performed as expected this weekend. Um, like you got to be feeling really great about how the the, you know, the prospect pool is looking and performing right now. And um, yeah, it’s gonna be fun to see who who can stick around the longest in training camp here. Yeah. which which some of these uh uh OHL and CHL guys and some of these Barracuda guys who can stick around in training camp the longest. So anyway, that’s going to be it for me today. We’ll be back on Monday, Sunday night Monday. Uh so make sure you’re following along wherever you get podcast. Of course, you can watch on YouTube as well. Follow the show on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and on Tik Tok at Lockdown Sharks. Follow me on Twitter and Blue Skyfry Hole. Until tomorrow. Bye friends.

  1. Grafer can make the NHL team, I see him more valuable as the captain of the barracuda, though mentoring and ushering-in the next generation of San Jose Sharks.

  2. We're probably a lottery team again but you can see clearly they're making progress. When the draft comes around next year, if we don't get a chance at Gavin McKenna, Keaton Verhoeff the right handed blue liner would look very good in teal

  3. I wouldn’t be too upset if Graf starts in the AHL. He obviously is good enough to make the team, but is probably the odd man out just because he’s able to be sent down. I’m fine with that because one thing about Graf’s game I think isn’t quite NHL level is his goal scoring. He can play 1st line with the Cuda and work on scoring more and will be the first call up when there’s an injury or trade

  4. I think we forget that the only reason Graf finished last season in the A was for that playoff push the Cuda were on.
He was absolutely playing to NHL level up till that point

  5. I can see Musty filling the Ryan Clowe role next season. This season Ryan Reaves is the nuclear weapon protecting the young skilled Sharks players. I don't want Eklund, Toffoli or Skinner dropping the gloves sticking up for the youngsters. Goodrow, Grundstrom and Dellandrea are not much of a deterrent without the Reaves back up.

  6. I am lowkey convinced that McCarthy deliberately encouraged Davis to let in a few softies so that he could challenge the team to dig themselves out of the hole, then take and hold the lead.
The boyz played like absolute ass in the 1st period, but were a completely different team during the next 40 minutes.

  7. Eliminate the "aaah," "ums," "like," and "as well" Also, you seem to be unable to pronounce "really" and seem to stammer on words. starting with the letter "m." "Everydayer" is also very awkward and not a word.

None of these issues are noticeable when you read ad copy.
