I like the idea of it. Interested to see how it shakes out
Stankoven led the World Juniors Championship in faceoff %. Twice. Something like 71% and 68%.
He was among the top WHL faceoff leaders too
I’m VERY glad they’re actually trying it. With him and Aho I do wonder if we are a little small, physically, at center, but you can’t ignore that Stank and his metrics are an absolute perfect fit on paper. If it works out, we have our Top 6 locked down for the remainder of the decade, with the ability to add with the cap space we have (coughKaprizovcough).
If Stankoven can play center it solves A LOT of problems
Stankoven is incredibly quick in the small moments, if he trained for it I bet hed be a face-off demon. Size is always the question, but itd be cool to see.
I love that it sounds like he is fully committed to trying it out, but also won’t be hurt or take it personally if it doesn’t work out. Would expect nothing less given his character.
The fact that his first goal as a Cane was a power play net-front deflection against Connor Hellebuyck in his first game feels like some kind of spiritual omen to manifest him as our 2C of the present and future.
The sight of smol Stanky doing face-offs with big centers will be really fun to watch
