Toronto Blue Jays vs Tampa Bay Rays – MLB 9/18/25 Full Game Highlights (MLB The Show 25 Sim)
Hello baseball fans and welcome. The show has an AL East matchup. It’s the Toronto Blue Jays taking on the Tampa Bay Rays. First pitch coming your way next. First pitch moments away and on the hill here today, Adrien Howser. Well, that whip is just below the league average. And that’s a good thing in this case, not allowing too many base runners. So on most days, he’s going to go out there and compete and put his team in a position to win. And I expect to see that from him in this one today. Ready to go. Now it’s the right fielder George Springer. [Applause] That’s off the inside corner and we’re underway. First pitch 111 [Music] right through there for a strike. Definitely not a pitch location you’re expecting up there as a hitter when you know the guy’s got a good sinker ball. If he can get in that location, boy, you’ve got to look top to bottom and that’s going to make it very difficult to hit Adrian on the ground right side and it’s through for a hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. [Music] Batting second, the designated hitter, Davis Schneider. So, up next, Davis Schneider. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. [Applause] Springer on at first. Nobody out. And here it comes. Good eye on that spot. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one, two, don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. into second with a double and they’ve got something brewing now. Good job of just putting the ball in play with two strikes. That ball right there landed in what they call the no man’s land, meaning it’s not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily. I mean, it’s a tough play going back for the shorts stop, but also for the outfielders trying to come in. They got to go a long way as well. Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Golden opportunity right here. [Applause] That clips a corner. [Applause] [Applause] swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the zone on the ground right side. Lao sends it to first and Guerrero is set down. Well, you’re definitely looking to do more with that opportunity at the plate. Two runners in scoring position, but at least he puts the ball in play. They bring across one run. There’s still one out there to pick up. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Addison Barger. [Applause] Swung on, belted back there, and it is out of here. He circles the bases. It’s three nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Well, he went up there o looking to do damage. I think he had his sight set on that pitch. He went and got it and circled the bases. One out. Base is empty. And now the catcher comes up to hit. Alejandro Kirk. There’s the strike. [Applause] One out. Base is empty. [Applause] Now fly ball to right center. Pereira sizes this one up, puts it away for the out and they’re two down. Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays in that cleanup spot. A key piece for this club, Addison Barker. And Boo, he’s a fun at bat to watch. I mean, definitely a threat whenever he’s got that bat in his hands, but for me, it’s it’s all about the mechanics. They’re so sound and when he gets his foot down on time and starts his swing, so much consistency that bat stays in the zone for a long time and he squares up the baseball a lot. Dalton Baro stands in with two away as he takes a ball. They’ve got him working a little harder in this first frame than he anticipated. Two out, space is empty. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. [Applause] That one missed on the ground to third. fires over to first and that’ll do it. But they strike for three in the inning. Two on this two-run home run. It’s now 3 nothing. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Tropicana Field and today’s starting pitcher, Shane Bieber. Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. A lot more guys striking out today, but when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where, yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and miss stuff in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got Yandi Diaz, the lead off batter, as he looks at ball one. Diaz needs just one more homer to reach 100 in the big leagues. That’s a laser base hit and the leadoff man aboard. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that, but so far I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. Now here is Junior Camero and that misses and that’s ball one swaying and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Batting third. The second at the plate. Definitely scuffling at the dish lately. Barely hitting over the Mendoza line this month. Out to center. Baro moving under it. Drops into the glove. Runner tags at second. Applies the tag and they get two. Double play. Batting fourth, no left fieldielder. When you’re already in scoring position, if you decide to tag, you really want to be more than 100% confident that you can make it safely to third because otherwise you take a potential runcoring opportunity off the board. Great throw to third. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. All right, Chris. And look out as that one ran in and got him. Anytime one of your hitters gets drilled, it catches everyone’s attention in the dugout. And you know what? It kind of gets you fired up. Now at the plate, Nick Forez on the ground right side. Clement inning over. He’s out. So the Rays strand a pair. They trail it here. Three nothing. Second inning set to go. Here’s the second base, Ernie Clement. Clement Hower, a righty that throws with power. 32 years old and they traded for him earlier this year. Swing and a miss. And that one missed by a ton. Filling up the strike zone hasn’t been the problem so far. It’s the quality of the strikes that’s been the real issue. And you look at the first inning, that’s what we saw. Too many pitches out over the plate. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Two and one. That smashed towards center. hauls it in for the out and there’s one down. Batting it the left fielder number 10, Joey. And next for Toronto, Joey Lrafido Toronto. Not even close there. And it’s one and0. And that’s through there for a strike. Making the calls behind the plate in this one is Woody Keller. Yeah, and Woody does a pretty good job back there, Boo. He’s got a pretty fair strike zone most of the time. Maybe some inconsistency here or there, but usually he’s back there doing a solid job. Swung on, popped up on the infield. Camo settles underneath it and it’s caught for the out. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Here’s Andre Jimenez singing. He’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. First offering and it just misses. Tried to back door him with that slider right there, but just missed off the plate. Good pitch though. The shorts stop takes the ball. Now this is in the air down the line and a foul ball. Two outs. Just missed. George Springer on deck for the Blue Jays. [Music] That’s ball four. Tried another sinker but couldn’t find a zone. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. And it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. One for one with a single so far. And that drops in for a strike. And this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Lined into left center. Base hit. Throw in holds the lead. Runner at second. Two on now with two away. Hitting is really easy for some guys. One thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. [Music] the one. There’s the strike [Applause] and a 1-1 ball outside. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. [Applause] full count. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Jimenez over at second. Springer at first, two out in the inning. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. One run is in. Throws to second. He has had such a good day today. I think he’s going to want to leave when it’s over. Couple of doubles today for the DH. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. And now Kevin Cash out of the dugout and ready to make a move to the bullpen. Adrien Howser out of the game and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching number 24 on a pitch out of the pin here. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score. So runner at second, two down. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Now pitch misses there. Ball one. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. [Applause] Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Bullpen movement for the Rays. Kevin Kelly warming up for manager Kevin Cash [Applause] ball. Two balls, one strike. [Applause] Lifted in the air, left field pretty well struck. Pereira makes the play and that is that. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double and the lead is now 5 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the second now for Tampa Bay. Josh Low Whoa. Bieber back to work. That one finds the zone. Strike one. just missed inside and a count two and one and that one is lifted in the air has room and he makes the catch. Batting seven, the center fielder Everson Pereira. So digging in, Everson Pereira. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Baro makes the play and there’s two away. Batting the shorts stop Carson. Two down, base is empty. Carson Williams next to hit for the Rays. Fought off foul in the air. Left field down the line. Drop it. Drop it. Lido makes the catch and that’ll do it. [Music] New inning getting started now. The third baseman, Addison Barker. Barger. There’s the strike. Well, these Jays doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. And here’s a stat for you, Boo. They’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at. It’s pretty special stuff. Not so good if you’re out there on the mound. Fast ball is outside. Oh, that got away from him. And he’s going to reach on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. Leading off for Toronto. Man at first, nobody out. Alejandro Kirk next up for the Blue Jays. 0 for one with a fly out to center. And it’s fouled away. Now a screamer into the outfield. Morell makes the catch for the out. And there’s one away. The center fielder number five, Dalton Vo. And now it’s Daltton Vo 0 for one so far. and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. [Applause] That one 95 missed up top and the count is one and two. swing and a miss and he struck him out. Two down. He had him out in front which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Now it’s the second baseman Ernie Clement. He’s 0 for one. swing and a high-fly ball left field. Pereira on the move to the alley and makes the grab and that is that. Blue Jays held in check but they hold a five nothing lead. set for the bottom of the third and stepping in for the Rays. Bobby Seymour. Bobby Seymour and he takes a strike. Well, at that velocity, if that’s all you’re seeing, 88, you can handle that all day long. That’s what you get in batting practice. But off the velocity of the fast ball, that is a very tough pitch to adjust to. Swing and a miss. And the count one and two. Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action. Next pitch misses. The count now two and two [Applause] on the ground. Slings it across. One up, one down. The batter number two, designated hitter, Yandi Diaz. Yandi Diaz. Now he’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. That’s in there. 0 and one. Just missed. One-1. That one outside now. Two balls in a strike. Line drive tracks it down for the out. That’s out number two. That was just a great jump and route to the ball. Well, it had to be. If he was going to cover all that ground and bring in that sinking liner, that’s the way it had to be done. Nice job, And that is out of play. That missed by a lot. One and one. Hit hard on the ground to the right side and it goes just foul. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and it’s a three up, three down inning. Down in order go the Rays. Still looking at that five nothing deficit. Back now in Tampa Bay. Now the left fielder Joey Lrafito. Joey Lido. And that’s off the outside edge. Ball one. Right through there for a strike. One ball, one strike. Next offering misses and it’s two in one. Two balls, one strike. [Applause] [Music] two. [Music] Got it. Pull it away. So up next, Andres Jimenez. the walk and a run scored his first time. And takes low for ball one. One ball, no strikes. [Music] Outside with a breaking ball. swang and a miss. As a hitter, you got to learn something from that pitch. He clearly wasn’t timed up on the fast ball. In a 200 count, you have to be ready to do damage. And there’s a rocket into the outfield, makes the turn, and heads for second. The throw in, not going to get him. He’s in there, man. And those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. A well-deserved double on a great swing. Got everything going on time. He stayed balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask. So the batting order turns over and the batter is George Springer. He’s two for two and that’s outside. Jimenez over at second. One down. That’s a ball. Two balls. No strike. That’s towards center. Pereira makes the grab. Rounder tags at second and he moves up to third. Now two away. Up next for the Blue Jays, the designated hitter, Davis Schneider. So man aboard, Davis Schneider. Next up for the Blue Jays. That clips the inside corner for a strike. Yeah, big swing and a miss. He’s been great in this one. Eye hand coordination just failed him a little bit right there. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. One left for Toronto as they are unable to add to their five nothing lead. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now it’s Brandon Brandon. Wow. Yeah. the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Nowadays, with advanced metrics and increased use of moving the infielders around, defense isn’t necessarily about making errors. Are you able to get to the ball? Are you able to position fielders where guys hit the ball, but within the new shift rules and an area that goes unnoticed is the coach that’s responsible for positioning. And then now this one’s crushed down the line. Hooking foul ball. Oh, that’s a really good pass to the ball right there. Just a little bit too quick. Got to find a way just let it travel a hair more. And that one is inside. Back when you played, it wasn’t the empirical data we have now. It was a guy with a ruler and a diamond taking a colored pencil and drawing a line where he thought someone had hit the ball. Right. That or just going off of gut or field. What does it look like his swing is today? What’s the pitcher throwing? They are sticking to the metrics and what seems to be most consistent for that hitter regardless of who the pitcher is on the mound. So, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Christopher Morell. Oh, he’s looking great so far. It helps when over 80% of your first pitches are strikes. He might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up. and ball one. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that Base is empty. One away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That misses the zone and the count now even up. favors another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Two outs, space is empty. And here’s the catcher. Nick Forez grounded out his first time. That one ripped. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. That is the inning. Rays held in check here. It’s 5 nothing. All set for the start of the inning. Stepping in Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singing he’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport. How difficult is that to do? Well, just look at the back of my bubblegum card. You’ll see how hard it is. These guys are great, man. They have the ability to look out there, but also to be able to turn on the inside pitch. Those that can really sharpen things on the outer half, those are the ones that become elite. They’ll sing. This is a guy that grew up in big league clubouses and it’s something that you see throughout the game. Sons whose fathers also played the majors. Next offering is downstairs. I can only imagine the comfort level of being in the ballpark. For those kids who are fortunate enough to have a dad that played in the big leagues, them being on the baseball field, for some it’s pressure. For them, they feel that they are right at home. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Well, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance and a foul ball. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Way out front for strike two. Guerrero gets his lead at first. Nobody out. And that’s a fair ball. Oh, he botches it. Now second and third and nobody out. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. In steps the man they call Captain Kirk for two in this one and that one fouled off. [Applause] 01 now. O that one went straight back and got our ump right in the mask. Let’s hope he’s okay. 0 and two now. Line drive. Perrera grabs it on the run. Here’s the throw to the plate. He boots it. The center field number five, Dalton Vjo. So, up next for Toronto, Daltton Varo. Listen, there’s absolutely no reason to pitch to this guy right here. You nibble, you see if he’ll expand his zone, but don’t give him anything to hit. If you walk him, not a big deal. You have a double play opportunity set up. 01. Call strike one is so critical in a bat like this with a real threat at the plate looking to do damage. And it’s even up. Runner at second here. One gone. [Applause] Fly ball pretty well struck right field. Back there. That’s not coming back. He leaves the yard to right. His 19th home run of the year. It’s eight nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident with a low 90s fast. You have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient and waited for it. It was like BP all over again. And the Rays manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Number 24 is done. And as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with a new pitcher after this break. Now pitching for now a new pitcher for the Rays, Kevin Kelly. Well, they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep the score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging. It base is empty, one away. And now for the Jays. Ernie Clement. That one finds the corner. It’s 0 and one. No ball. One strike. [Applause] On the ground right side and he handles it himself for the out. The left fielder number 10, Joey Lerido. Here’s the left fielder, Joey Loperito. Lerido goes 6′ 3 in, 25 years old. And they went out and made a trade for him last season. This one in the air, nabs it, and that’s the third out. But they strike for three in the inning. two on this two-run home run. It’s now an eight nothing game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in a blowout, which gives us a chance to talk about just about anything, bro. Don’t get me fired. Do you collect baseball cards? You know, when I was a kid, I used to put them in my back tire of my bicycle so it would sound like a motorcycle. Probably ruined some good cards back then, but don’t really have much of a collection. And the other day I came across a binder that my wife had in one of the drawers and my son’s got some baseball cards. So we’ll be looking to see if there’s any kind of retirement income in there and another ball. So my dad told me that he had a bunch of Mickey man rookie cards and a whole bunch of valuable cards and his mom tossed them because what you know what did she know? So, I made my mom keep all my baseball cards and I really don’t have any that are valuable and that story stunk by me. Anyway, that one misses. So, a lead off walk. My partner known for being a touch fantastic. All right. You walked 130 times. Oh my goodness. In your career. I can’t even believe I can’t I win 13. Yeah. I I I don’t even seriously I don’t believe that. [Applause] Pereira takes a ball as he stands in for the second time. Well, these Rays need to bring up the quality of their at bats and specifically their swings. They’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority, but it’s just not happening for them so far. zero extra base hits in the game. So, it’s been tough for him to get anything going. The 1-1 just off the inside edge. Sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through, but it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have guys in scoring position because they put themselves there. Strike two. And down on strikes he goes. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter. And I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Ripped to third and caught. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove. But you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. Bobby Seymour next to hit for the Rays. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. That’s in there. That’s strike one. 01. That’s in there. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. That’s inside. And that one is downstairs. Two balls, two strikes. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Foul ball. Another two- two upcoming and down on strikes. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. One left for Tampa and they’re on the short end of an eight nothing score. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. Leading off Andres Jimenez. Kelly back to work. Fast for a strike. Tampa Bay’s bullpen with some action. Ian Seymour, the lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Sulzer warming up as well. Let’s go ball. Here we go. Fights that one away. Still one and two. That’s a ball. Tried the sweeper. Ball three. Full count. [Music] spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another swaying and a miss. Struck him out. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Back to the leadoff spot in the Blue Jays lineup. Here’s George Springer. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Some hitters are just more confident if they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01. The Jays up big in this one. And we’re the top half of the sixth. He swings and fouls one off. And a foul ball. He stays alive. And the O2. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. So a man aboard now with one away. Now batting designated hitter Davis Schneider. And now to the plate. Here’s the Toronto DH. Davis Schneider [Music] line drive. Come on to the bag himself. It’s a double play and that’ll end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Top of the order, two up in the home half of the six. It’s the Blue Jays eight, the Rays nothing. And we’re back. leading up for the Red Yandi Diaz hitter possibly thinking about home run number 100 here. He’s just one shy of that milestone and that’s downstairs and that is ball one. Just missed. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. That one fouled off. Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. Oh, that slider down and away. It’s just kind of a slow death with two strikes you’re looking to protect and halfway to the plate. You know you’ve committed and you know you’re going to have no chance of touching it. Tell you what, sometimes you just have to tip your cap. Junior Camro the next to hit. Camero really thriving with the bat this season here at home. Fast for a strike. the race with a lot of ground to make up here in the bottom of the sixth. Pitch misses there and one and one. The one-1 is fouled off. One down. Base is empty. [Applause] Love how he let that ball travel in his hands. Nice job of going the other way. Wow. Runner on at first with one gone. And here is Brandon Loud. [Applause] And first offering is fouled off. All right. Just missed. [Applause] popped up. Foul territory behind the plate. Kirk makes the grab. Two down. The left fielder number 24, Christopher Morel. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Christopher Morell. He’s 0 for one. Slider misses outside. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Camo off of first with two away. Come on, Ray. Let’s go. A swing and a soft liner. And that’s a base hit. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. The catcher number 40. Next to hit, Nick Forez. For little bit low and that’s ball one. Two on, two outs. up the middle into the outfield. Base hit coming home. They’ll throw in but it’s offline and they’re on the board but lots of ground to make up. Now up for Tampa Bay, Josh Low. First pitch misses. [Applause] swinging a foul out of play. [Applause] Swaying and a ground ball out to short. They get the force. They limit the damage here. Two men left stranded, but they do push across one. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Blue Jays eight. The Rays won. We go to the top of the seventh. And now for the Jays, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. And there’s a foul ball. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that sight a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. That one got close. And the count one and two. fouls it off. Still one and two. Gets a piece and stays alive. cracks his bat and pops him off. Kelly pulls it in and there’s one away. Now batting the third baseman, Addison Barger. Addison Barger getting ready to hit. He’s already homerred in this game. Hard ground ball base knock. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting catcher Alejandro. Here’s the Toronto catcher Alejandro Kirk. [Music] And the first pitch misses for ball one. Barker the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Just missed. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the hard of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here inside. [Music] Fast ball for a strike [Applause] and ball four to a board. First and second, one out. Daltton Vo digs in now. He’s already homered here in this one. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. 10 that catches the corner. He’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in. Ball two. Two balls, one strike. That one misses and the count is three and one. And that’ll load the bases. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted in first base with a quick free pass. And now Ernie Clement 0 for three in this one. [Music] Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. That was the pitch to hit. forcing fast ball instead of that sinker ball that makes you hit it on the ground. He missed a good one. Here comes the 01 and the swing to miss. All loaded up here in the top half of inning number seven. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. [Music] keeps the attack going with a foul ball. [Applause] field two on the ground to second might be two offbalance feed. There’s one to first not in time. Great effort there. I promise you there guys that get a little bit faster when they can smell an RBI. That was a possible inning ending double play. Great hustle and he gets rewarded with the RBI because of it. Joey Lopeido now at the plate. [Applause] Hit in the air out to center field. Pereira and that is that one run in the inning, but they leave two. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. Jay’s nine, the Rays won. Set for the last half of the seventh. And now the center fielder Everson Pereira the bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. And it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there. Next offering is down low. One ball, two strikes. Swings through that and it’s a strikeout. Picks up strikeout number seven. Well, pitchers have become so much better at commanding that high fast. It used to be that a lot of pitchers didn’t like to throw it because it throw off their release point and their mechanics and they’re aimed at keeping everything at the knees, get ground balls. But because hitters get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence, this pitch has come back into play and they are doing some special things with it. And that one way outside and the count is one and one. Well, timing is the key to great hitting. And right now that door is still locked. They haven’t been able to figure out pitch sequences and it’s impacting them across the board. One down, base is empty. That one missing inside. [Applause] Strike three and that’s two in a row. Now batting first base, two down, bases empty. And stepping in for the Rays, Bobby Seymour [Applause] and a foul ball. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom of the seventh. Swings through that. No ball. Two strikes. Got him swinging and he strikes out the side for the second time today. Rays go in order. One, two, three. They trail it big. It’s 91. Ready to begin the eighth. And now for the Jays. Andres Jimenez. Jimenez. And that’s in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Foul ball there. That’s a ball. Went with the sweeper. That’s down and in. Two balls, two strikes. Let’s do it now. And a swing at a line drive at a right field. Balls it in. And there’s one away. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. [Applause] Springer the next to hit takes ball one. One ball is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the eighth. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. One down. Davis Schneider next up for the Blue Jays. That one misses. One and0. [Music] Right through there for a strike. Man at first. One away. So a foul ball makes it one and two, rips one to right and that one hops the wall. Here comes Springer around third. Play of the play. Well, clearly being aggressive on the bases right there, trying to add on to that big lead. Credit to the defense, though. Nice execution to cut him down at the plate. Man, it’s good to see they’re still out there trying to make plays for their pitcher. So, man aboard, Vlatty Jr. stepping to the dish now. Pop foul out of play off to the right. swing and a highf fly ball out towards right field. Squeezes it and that is that. Blue Jays held in check, but they still hold a commanding 911 lead. Now pitching back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Tommy Nance. Tommy. And you know, bullpen guys can struggle sometimes when they’re called upon with big leads because it just doesn’t have the same intensity as a tight game. So, we’ll see how sharp he is. Your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well. To the top of the order now. To the plate now for the Rays is the DH. Yandi Diaz. First pitch misses. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Brendan Little, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. And the one and that misses off the outside edge. Two 0 to count. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. Nance sets fires and out number one on the grab. The third baseman number 13, Junior Camero. So digging in, Junior Camero. First pitch and he just misses. Nance measures 6′ 6 in. He features a slider, a sinker, and occasionally mixes in the slur. Next offering is in for a strike. The Blue Jays up big in this one here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. [Music] That one just misses. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Stays alive. [Music] swing and a ball lifted left field. Lerido sizing this one up. He’s there. He’s got it. Two down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming over instead of staying close. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Let’s do it loud in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. Pitch is in there and it’s one and one. gets to it with a slide. The throw. It’s there. And that’s a great play. Back here at Tropicana Field. All set to start the ninth in this one. Here’s the third baseman, Addison Barger. And it may be a long shot, but a triple here will give him the cycle. Kelly back to work. And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Ball one there [Applause] and he hits a ground ball right side. Laauo sends it to first and the leadoff man retired here in the ninth. Up next for the Blue Jays, the catcher, Alejandro. Alejandro Kirk. Next up for the Blue Jays. He is at the top of the game in terms of defense at the catching spot. Fought off foul. It’s so impressive because these guys have to do so much study and preparation for their pitchers, for opposing hitters, and really their number one job is to guide that staff through a ball game. And so when you also can turn it up offensively and be a force there, that is a win-win every manager’s dream. in the air right field and it drops in. Dalton Vo next up for the Blue Jays. Very high with that one. Ball one. [Applause] That one ripped left field. That’s back. And that one is off the wall. And it’ll be runners at second and third. Only one away. Two hits for him in this one. Both for extra bases. Got to feel good about that fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. So up next Ernie Clement [Applause] that misses the zone and it’s one and0. [Applause] That one drifts inside. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs. So far, not getting what he was hoping for. [Applause] And now two balls in a strike. Second and third. One away here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] Slides, but it gets by him. One run across now. Two runs score and it’s a double-digit lead as they’re up by 10. And Ray’s manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Kevin Kelly departs. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. Now pitching to here’s a new pitcher from the pen, Ian Seymour. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. One gone runner at first. Now the left fielder Joey Lopeido and the first pitch misses for ball one [Applause] swaying and a miss. There’s that change up. One one [Applause] swinging a miss. Going to count one and two. Yeah, I don’t think anyone’s got good numbers swinging at pitches in that location. [Applause] On the ground, two ball. They get one throw to first, but he beat it. Now back the short stop Andre. And next for Toronto, Andres Jimenez. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. That’s in there. That’s strike one. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. That misses and that’s ball three. Foul ball. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. So now two on and two outs. Second walk of the game for him and he’s been really patient at the play, the game plan that he’s sticking to. He’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there. Now here’s the leadoff man for the Blue Jays, George Springer. No matter what you’re playing this kind of rival to take your game to another level. [Applause] That’s outside. Ball one. Two aboard, two outs. Right through there for a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Ground ball right side loud onto first that takes care of Springer and the inning is over. So two runs, three hits, no errors, but two are left stranded onto the bottom of inning number nine. 456 coming up. Jay’s 11, the Rays won. So bottom of the ninth, here’s the left fielder, Christopher Morel. Christopher Morrell [Applause] and that misses. And that’s ball one. [Applause] swing and a miss as he was out front. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. [Applause] And that one pulled foul. [Music] [Applause] Ball two. Two. Two. And it remains two and two. Liner caught at second. He put a really good swing on that pitch and hit the ball hard. You know, line drives don’t always find a hole, but the more you can hit the ball like that with good exit vo, the better off you’re going to be in the long run. Here’s the catcher, Nick Forez. Picked up an RBI in his last at bat. Still their only run of the game so far. And that’s in there for a strike. Little slider that finds the mark. ripped on the ground to second. Fires over to Guerrero. Now only one out remaining. Now batting the right fielder. Now here is Josh Low. [Applause] delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Two down, nobody on. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Now one. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. [Applause] That’s hard hit on the line. Base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Up next for the Rays, the center fielder, Ever Emerson Pereira next to hit for the Rays. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. And there’s a ball. The Rays with a lot of ground to make up here. The last half of inning number nine. [Applause] Next offering pop foul off to the right. Out of play. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone, middle away. Got him. And that’s the ball game. But with this sixth win in a row, all of a sudden, you start to look around up and down in the lineup to your left, to your right as a player, and you say, you know what, we’re good. Uh we may have had some tough times earlier on, but this is a good team and you start to expect this kind of play out of yourselves. We’ll see if this translates into a longer winning streak than it is right now. An 111 final for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon. [Music]
