Training Camp (9/18): Tyler Toffoli
you guys are looking to do this campaign. Yeah, I think it, you know, started uh with our meeting last night uh with Greery and um I think everybody’s on the same page in the sense of taking the next step and um you know, our the younger guys are a year older. They got their taste last year and obviously their younger guys, you know, itching to try and you know, take somebody spot. So, um it’s going to be a battle throughout camp and uh you know, it was obviously nice to get things started. You emerged as a a big- time leader last season. uh now gear two and you see a lot of the other moves with with Nick coming in and John and Demetri coming in. How can you as a a continued leader on this team kind of see the difference of adding those guys into this group as somebody who’s been here a year before then? Yeah, I mean they’re great guys. We’ve uh they’ve been here for a couple weeks now and we’ve been hanging out off the ice and stuff. So, um so far everybody’s been fitting in uh great and um obviously the the groups are all different right now, but um you know we we’re still walking past each other in the locker room and stuff. So, uh, I think we’re all excited, uh, really excited about the moves and, um, we’re all excited, you know, to get things going and, um, start playing games. You obviously skated, you know, a lot and were with Mac and Will a lot last year. What’s the maybe do you see a physical difference in them and what do you see from them going into year two? I know it’s only day one, but during those captain skates as well. Yeah, I mean, obviously they they both look bigger and uh, and stronger just by appearance, and um, you know, their talent’s going to take them as far as, you know, they really want to push themselves. So, uh, really, you know, interested to see, uh, the rest of camp and obviously they’re they’re together right now. So, hopefully they can, um, continue to build off that chemistry that they had, um, last year and, um, you know, help lead the team. You talked about the next step. What is the next step for this team and how do you guys achieve that? Not being in last place. Is it more is it there’s only one spot to go and that’s up. So, I think we’re all on the same page and we don’t want to be in that position again. How good can can this group be? I mean, it starts, you know, within training camp. We, uh, like I was saying, we’re all competing for, uh, you know, our spots in the lineup, and I think Warzo is a pretty honest coach. And, um, you know, he said that, you know, this morning. So, everybody, uh, is here to prove something. No matter if you are trying to make the team or, uh, you’ve been in the league for for a while, everybody’s, you know, fighting for for their time. And, what’s been your impression of Michael Misa? I know he’s stayed with you and hung out with him quite a bit. He’s great. He’s a he’s a great kid. uh hung out with him a little bit yesterday too and um and you know was talking with some of the management and said he had a really good really good rookie camp and uh he was extremely excited to get things going today. He uh he complimented you about you know getting to know you a little bit helping him along as this process of you know turning pro. How have you tried to ease his transition here into the into the NHL maybe? Yeah, I mean, uh, he hasn’t been at the house for for a little while because that work camp, but when he was here, obviously, we were, you know, uh, watching the football and stuff together and hanging out, you know, we were eating dinner and stuff together. So, um, honestly, it was towards the end of the summer trying to gear up for the for training camp, so things were, you know, pretty mellow, but, uh, obviously still have had some pretty good times. Is he, uh, if he makes the team, are you open to having a roommate there or I mean, the spot’s always open. It’s uh it is what it is. Uh hopefully he makes a team and uh we can you know figure that out then. We don’t we don’t know if this team is going to have a captain this year or not. I guess I don’t know if Mike’s made that determination or not, but what would it mean to you maybe to where to see for this group? I mean it’s not something that’s um over my head. So, uh, if something like that were to happen, then obviously it’d be an incredible honor, but at the same time, um, with the guys that came in, too, there’s there’s a lot of guys that are capable of doing that. And, um, I think we have a general group of captains within our organization and and our team in the locker room that um, all step up. What have some of the captains that you had in your career meant to you? You Dustin Brown obviously comes to mind, but what’s what have they meant to you in your career, and can you pass that on maybe? Yeah, I mean a guy like Brown, he just kind of showed up to work every day and um you know, got the job done. He was he was a guy that led by example and um everybody’s a different person, different player, whether that’s uh by example, uh talking in the locker room, whatever it is. And uh every team I’ve been on with a with a captain has different uh unique uh qualities. Uh in regards with Amos on the ice with him, captain skates and that sort of thing. What are his I guess his obvious talents that might make him uh thrive in Angel this year? I mean, it’s one of those he always wants to puck and um when you have a a kid who’s 18 years old and uh demanding the puck in the in the middle of the ice, that goes a long way. I mean, you look at Mlin, he’s the exact same way. Um different players obviously, but both uh demand the puck and want the puck. So, I think that uh alone uh is a really good sign for for a bright career. for yourself, how has your training maybe changed as you’ve gotten later in the career? Obviously, your consistency, maybe what what’s been maybe the difference of just how you keep yourself ready for a new season over the summer as you your career moves on here? Uh, honestly, nothing really changed. Kind of same same training programs, obviously, different teams. Um, but everything is generally quite the same. How does grind go for you? Uh, terrible. I will not be doing that ever again. See, what do you see uh what do you see in Mac this year? Um, he’s obviously gonna be a driven really driven, motivated young guy, but what do you do you see anything different this year in terms of his um, I don’t know, maybe demeanor just going into his second year, I guess. Yeah. I mean, he got he got a taste of it last year and um, the one thing that really stands out to me and obviously you guys don’t see it, but in the locker room, he hates to lose more than anybody. So, um I think he is putting a lot of pressure on himself to uh turn things around here and um I mean his work ethic alone in practice is going to, you know, help help that and and help change things around. There’s a lot of new faces here and you guys are hoping to avoid the same kind of start you had last year. What how important is this camp just to get everyone on the same page, you know, just from a schematic standpoint? Is it, you know, you getting everybody to sort of, you know, work together a little bit as you try to have a better start? Yeah, I mean, I think we have an older group, so I think it’s going to be a better understanding of what that really means. Um, we’ve, you know, not even with the coaches, the players have already uh talked about that uh outside of the ring. So, that’s something that we’re trying to, you know, really take to heart and um understand that you don’t want to start the season in a hole. So hopefully, you know, we continue to have a a good rest of the camp and um from what I understand, we’re going to be doing a lot more systems and and stuff like that and hopefully, you know, we really catch on and uh start the season on a high note. I think you guys went to a 113 sort of the end of last season. How did that how did that work for you as far as this maybe this team at that time? I guess I think we all enjoyed it and thought that it benefited our team. we all I thought our game changed and and we started playing a lot better once we did that and doing it correctly. So, um we’ll see what happens. Other than being closer and more familiar with like Mac and Will, what are you seeing from the other guys on and off the ice? Uh honestly, like I was saying, we’ve been hanging out off the ice. Um you know, we got our fantasy football draft. We got everything uh dialed up and the group chats, you know, firing. So, um that’s a good thing. And uh once obviously the season gets started, it’s the games are obviously more uh closer together, but we’ll find some time for uh for some dinners and uh some hangouts. I know you’re close with with Jeff Skinner, but you know, just moments here at camps here. You guys are on the same team in the NHL. Is that something cool you guys kind of think about maybe together? You kind of maybe shared a look and like we’re on the same team together. Now it’s kind of officially here. I know captain skates, but first day of camp. Yeah. Know it’s definitely uh it’s definitely funny seeing them in the same jersey again. Obviously, it’s been a long time, but um been playing against him forever. So, uh good to have him on on our side and excited to see what he can do. Obviously, he’s uh put in a in a good position to be playing with, uh with those two. So, uh hopefully that continues and and they build some chemistry. That was my next question. Seeing him with those two, what what can he provide? Let’s say they start the season together. What can he provide Mac and Will on that on that line? I mean, he’s scored 50 goals before, so um hopefully he can he can find that again and um do that. Now, the focus on uh systems you mentioned, is it mostly defensive, you think, or there were kind of a focus to to it? Uh, from what I understand, it’s going to be everything. It’s a new group of guys. We’re all trying to get on the same page here. Um, with the grouse grind, did a Mac kind of take it easy on you or No, he left me. So, he did not take it take it easy on me. Good to be uh last one here. Teammates with Carrie Price again. Yes, I saw I saw him the other day. So, it was uh it was good to see him. And I saw him in Montreal too. So it was good to catch up. How’s he doing just you know physically and you know just kind of mentally just you know at this stage of his career where is he at just physically right now? I did not get into those details, but uh I know that he’s he’s doing well and uh family’s doing well and uh that’s all that matters to

Let’s go sharks! 🦈
Let's go, teal together❤
This guy is gonna be looked back on as the Shepard for the young group about to dominate. Put a C on him!
will smith looks different 🤣
Mack for the C, I love a Toff without a letter, skill guys, primo scorers like him, Skinner you need them loose and focused on lighting the lamp. I see an unofficial “top line” in Eky, Wennberg & Toff! Skinner, Celly & Smith while listed as the top-line will be a great 2nd line outmatching most opponents. Misa as 3C/3LW is exciting for me as an opportunity to do the Smith thing and grow, perhaps his role changes after a trade/deadline deal is done. We are so freaking stacked, the future is teal!! 🎉 I would distribute A’s based not necessarily on merit or “deserving” but honestly as a utility if you’re on at different ice times!!
