SHUTOUT! Hunter Greene tosses 1-hit MASTERPIECE to keep Reds in Wild Card race! 🔥
trying to stay healthy more than anything else has been Hunter Green’s biggest challenge. But when he’s been in there, he has been a major key. He was the opening day starter for Cincinnati and he comes in with an erra at three. A very strong year. That’s the key. You said when he’s in there, he is elite. You see the low ERA, the high strikeouts per innings. He’s got a great walk total. He’s very, very high up in the in the walk percentage game. He throws a lot of strikes and he’s got electric fast ball. See if he challenges Bush. A payoff pitch is a fast ball on the inside corner at 101 for called strike three. There he is. Right near the top in most of those categories relative to the lead. You say challenge and I agree with you. He’s in the top 80th percentile on the ground to second. Mlean knocks it down on a hard hit ball but recovers and it’s a one two three. Hunter Green first. There’s a fast ball out of the zone or at least at the very top of it and he gets Suzuki to swing and miss. He said if someone was 7 7 for 15 off me and I was a pitcher and I threw 102 mph say hit it if you can. Kelly strokes one out towards center field. Here is Fredel coming in. Boy Hunter Green swings and misses and that retires the side. Two half broken bat flare. Dela Cruz behind the bag. It’s 12 up and 12 down against Hunter Green. A nine pitch. Fourth inning. Kelly takes called strike three on a fast ball. 100 mph pitch on the outside edge. Strike out number four for Green. All on the K or on the fast ball, I should say. Can he be what the Reds want him to be, which is an ace. My goodness, that may have gone off the helmet of Bastos, who realizes he’s got a run. It could be a force at second. And it is. And I completely understand Bayisteros being completely thrown off there. My gosh, I hope he’s okay. Trying to shake it off as Quinton Barry comes over to check on him. A line drive from Pete Crow Armstrong by doing everything he can and hits him flush in the helmet and that ends the inning. Some applause from the Reds fans. There’s a swing and miss from Shaw and another hundo on the gun and another fast ball on the ground to second base. Mlean’s got it. flips to Dela Cruz and six innings without allowing a hit for Hunter Green. Very sharp tonight. It’s one- nothing Cincinnati. Recently, just recently now, he’s started throwing that very good split underneath his fast ball right off the same plane. We’ll see if he does that here. Called strike three top of the zone at 100. Guess you don’t need to when you throw 100 where you want to. It’s been a general theme. You don’t have to do certain things when you can do this behind the ball for seam spin. If he can place it at 100 right there, that is a tough at bat for anybody. Another fast ball for a called strikeout on the edge outside corner. Sevenks back to back to start the seventh for Hunter Green. A perfect location. What What do you What do you as a hitter? There’s nothing you you try to foul this pitch off, but it’s 100. He struck out on a fast ball. That was back in the second inning. He went down swinging to Suzuki on the ground pass the third baseman Stewart into left field. Suzuki breaks up the no hitter in the seventh with a two out double and the tying run is in scoring position for Chicago. Why you shaking your head? It was I mean nobody said anything. I always root for the pitcher in these situations. Of course. Three sliders in a row right there. I bet you he’ll be second guessing those later. Now Kelly with the tying run at second. Baltimore chop off the plate but right to Mlan that retires the side. No hitter is done. Hunter Green gets a chance to go the distance tonight. Top of the Cubs order in a one- nothing game outside looking in of this National League playoff chase. Here I come, Michael Bush. See if you can hit it. Pitch number 101 for Hunter Green. Michael Bush cranks it deep to right field at the wall. It is going to be caught by Benson. He just got under it just enough that force got up on him. This is the hardest strike out in all of baseball right here with Nicoer. Strike three. Just perfect placement again by Hunter Green. He’s got everything working. Last chance for the Cubs. So much at stake for Cincinnati. And their opening day starter Hunter Green trying to put away Ian Hap to finish off a shut out. An absolute gem when they needed it most from their ace. The Reds still going in the playoff chase behind a complete game shut out from Hunter Green. Absolutely incredible. [Applause]
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene tosses a complete game shutout against the Chicago Cubs, striking out eight batters and issuing just one walk to keep his team in the Wild Card hunt on September 18, 2025.

First!
Pure and utter dominance are the only ways to describe that outing for Hunter Greene. Crazy underrated
As a cubs fan, he deserved the no hitter
This dude day in and day out puts up crazy numbers. Pure dominance !
Is it possible that one playoff team finish below %500?
Javier Asad hasn't pitched recently, but is he in the minor leagues? Or was he in the bullpen all day? Will he be used as a starter again?
Greene is a great ace. Though I don't follow the Reds, why wasn't John Sadak commentating for this game? Is he out for some reason?
Double-Dipping on comments this evening!! Hunter Greene exemplifies the Useless Species Demo, where their only contribution to society is to dribble a basketball, catch and throw a football, play baseball, Box, or deal drugs. They serve no purpose in society!! How did this SHUTOUT better Western Society? Blacks serve no societal purpose!! 💯
I hope that Cubs player that got that line drive hit off his helmet in the 5th inning is ok
Excellent pitching performance
Might as well call this a no-hitter by this year's standards
MLB needs some more subs so they can get off those 3 6’s
Reds are gonna win the World Series this year. I can feel it.
Cubs fan here, but hey we got to give credit where it is due. Hunter Greene was LIGHTS OUT TONIGHT!!! He was locked in and loaded all night long!! Big Props to him for putting on a Masterful performance tonight!! Let's regroup guys and come out tomorrow firing on all cylinders!!!👍👍
