The Cowboys signed Jadevian Clowney for two main reasons. One, they clearly lack a dude at the edge rusher spot. They don’t have that impact type of superstar edge. Now, Clowney does not provide that. That’s not who he is, especially at this point in his NFL career, but he does offer something that the current edge rusher crop doesn’t really offer, and that’s having a three down player. He can stop the run and rush the pass. Maybe not the best at each of those spots on the team, but certainly up there. I’ve been underwhelmed by Dante Fowler so far. I don’t think he’s been a great run stopper. Hasn’t been the same pass rusher we saw in his last stint in Dallas. Marshon Young, I think, has been a good run stopper, but he’s not much of a pass rusher right now. Donovan Nzaraku has great upside, but he hasn’t put it together yet through two games, and it’s probably unfair to ask him to do that anyway. James Houston has flashed, but he’s not a very good run stopper either. Sam Williams hasn’t had the breakout quite yet. So Clowny in theory helps raise the floor of both the run stopping and the pass rushing at the edge rusher room which is needed.

Coming out of college Clowney was labeled a “generational talent”. Ok, it never materialized, but it should be an indication of our coaching staff. Was Wilson THAT good? No, Dal’s D is that bad
I saw Clowney in a short interview. He was asked Why the Cowboys? His reply was that the players are spoiled. This is his 7th team and he's never been "taken care of" to this degree.
When Clowney played for the ravens, he looked like the Clowney of old he got alot of pressure on the QBs and missed some sacks by mere finger tips

James Houston had been solid at run stopping thus far. He needs more snaps but I still think this is a good signing. We need more DB depth.
