gets cold. That’s all it takes to swing the entire outcome of a game. Now here’s Cunningham. Thompson. A screen on Donic. Here’s Cunningham. It’s called in by Luca Donuch. It’s a defender doing just enough to cause a miss on the layup. The rebound by Detroit. [Music] Thompson outside. Cunningham with the ball now guarded by Eightton. Two open that time. Made it look easy. And the coaches rave about Harris in his three-point shooting. He helps his team space the floor. And from the sideline, let’s catch up with Ally. I did briefly speak with JJ Re. I asked him what’s the key to slowing down Kade Cunningham. Coach said, quote, “Not letting him get clean looks inside the ark.” Kade is a terrific mid-range shooter and a solid finisher inside. So, we just have to get a hand in the space on every shot. Limiting his production could be the difference in this game. Okay, good stuff. Thank you, Ally. And so, it’s the Lakers with it after the Pistons picking up a basket just moments ago. And he comes up with a bucket. Yeah, this is where Aiden’s comfortable operating using his height and array of inside moves to his advantage. Just such a terrific dunker, man. Born to fly, that’s for sure. For Los Angeles, they’ve gone one for three so far. Donic passes to Reeves. Here’s Aiden. James outside going inside and he’s going to the line for two. The official saw contact while he was going up. Got one on Thompson. Man, an absolute terror driving inside. James dares defenders to get physical with him and sometimes they have no choice. Take a break. [Music] [Applause] [Music] That free throw good from James. All right, Grant, I have to ask you, has there ever been a more intimidating team than the old bad boy Pistons? Well, they weren’t fancy, but they played hard and they played physical basketball. Every team that faced those Detroit teams knew they were in for a battle. So, hits one and misses one at the line. And at 610, Jaylen Duran is an incredible athlete for his size. Yeah, he’s got a lot of bounce, which helps him as a rim protector, rebounder, and line threat. Plus, he’s got quick feet and he’s able to guard smaller guys on the perimeter. got the ball where he wanted it but then got swarmed. Ivy against Reeves. Pass to James. Lays it up and banks it in. Once James gets the ball in close, it’s game over. Put up those two points [Music] here in the first. Just under two and a half minutes played so far. Thompson. A screen on Donic. Here’s Cunningham. Here’s Thompson. Rejected by James. Pass to Aimura. [Music] Back to James. Aimura outside now. Reeves. Aimura finds Donic. Just four to shoot over Cunningham. And they’re unable to get the time bucket there. The Pistons have gone just three for seven here at the start. Here’s Ivy. Ooh, he’s looking comfortable now. Three for three. Just finding room to go to work inside. Ivy really relies on his physical abilities to get a close-range shot. James passes to Aiden. And here’s Donic. He’s watched by Cunningham. Donic against Cunningham. Donic no good. Here’s Ivy with the drive. He’s got it. Four for four now. He’s automatic and he is a hard charger. Ivy only plays at full speed. A great burst on his drives. Reeves. The pass to James. Oh, and the jam by James. Filthy. I mean, just the arena is stunned. He’s got a deep bag of tricks to dig into. The Pistons lead by four [Music] now. Here’s Ivy. Give him eight. Thompson. A screen on Reeves. Here’s Ivy. And Aiden pulls it down. Those are precisely the looks this team is trying to create. Yeah, quality offense will serve you well in the long run. You can’t settle for bad shots. Impressive close out on a skilled shooter. That is how you defend shots from downtown. Ciring outside [Music] [Applause] and a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. And make no mistake, Kate Cunningham is the engine of this team. Grant man, his vision and playmaking are crucial to the offense. Coach trusts him to make the right reads and set up his teammates. He has cut down on mistakes and is rounding into an elite point guard. And the first one at the line is good. Kate Cunningham has faced his share of challenges in his career. Coach. Yeah, Brian, the injuries, the discouraging losses, but he’s remained steadfast through it all. He’s a committed and mentally tough player. Believes in his game and now wants a team around him that can fulfill that need. Both free throws good from Cunningham. Well, he’s been very good at the line and we all know free throws can make or break you in the end. And so JJ Reick calls for the timeout. He’ll take the opportunity to regroup. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Lakers trail by six. Boy, they need something to go to regain some confidence. No question. Way too many empty possessions for them. Here’s James and then he throws it down as he goes right over Jaylen Duran. It doesn’t get much better than that. LeBron putting some muscle on the sling. Cuttingham with the ball now. Donic defending. Chalk up two there and he gives up some size inside but makes a great adjustment on the finish. Yeah, you got to love that kind of effort. Getting in there and fighting through the defense. Now here’s Reeds. He’s scoreless. Well, playing his role to perfection, using his size to control the glass for his team. And there’s the foul. It’s on DeAndre Aiden. That’s his first foul of the game. Vanderbilt’s checked in for Aimura. And the switch here also for Detroit. Robinson. He’s checked in for Thompson. [Music] Cunningham passes to Duran. That falls. Nice feed that time from Cunningham. They’re going to work inside. I like how confident Jaylen is from this area. Cunningham against Donic outside. Vanderbilt. Pass to Reeves from behind the ark. Buries it from three. Defensively, you have to stay connected to him on the perimeter. And so Cunningham will bring it up for the Detroit Pistons. It’s a five-point game. And here’s Ivy from the arc. And he trains it. A solid five for six now. And something Ivy continues to improve. He’s becoming a real threat from downtown. Donic passes to Vanderbilt. Now here is James. [Music] Donic outside launches it and it’s Harris with the rebound. And you just can’t afford to give up that kind of look very often. Pass to Cunningham. Back to Harris on the wing. Ivy. He’s covered by Reeves. Down low. And let the go by Durham. You know, he’s run that set a lot. Even in his college days, Ivy is aware of every option he has in the pick and roll. A moment to hear from Alli Leforce. Kate Cunningham has really been improving from distance. He said early in his career he was playing a lot of minutes and stepping back to the NBA three-point line he just didn’t have his legs in a shot. After his shin surgery he redefined his form and strengthened his legs. Brian he said it helped a lot. That could be a silver lining of all that time off Allen. Now here’s Duran. Here’s Cunningham. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. That one on Donic. And I like how tough Cunningham is welcoming the contact on the way to the hoop. And what do you guys think so far about the offensive approach for the Pistons? Well, they’re in a great flow. The ball’s moving. All those assisted buckets means the offense is running well. Another area they’ve excelled in is the points in the paint. They’ve been able to gouge the interior defense so far in this one. The first free throw is good. Yeah. Can you see total package? Cunningham the prototype guard these days. And the Lakers making a change here. Smarts checked in. [Applause] [Music] Both free throws good from Cunningham. Here’s Donic. Still without a bucket. [Music] [Applause] Pass to James. Shoots over Robinson. James can’t get it to go. The Pistons lead by nine. To the inside. Stolen by Aton. Smart against Cunningham. Donic right side. That’s in coming off an assist from Smart. They give Luca the ball and you know what happens next. Instantly he finds the shot and JB Bicker staff decides to call timeout. Coach wants to speak to his guys, maybe alter some of the game plan. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] The Pistons lead by six. Ivy outside. [Music] [Applause] Cunningham. A screen on Donic. Out to Harris. Smart against Cunningham. Down to five on the shot clock. Donic grabs the miss. The Lakers have gone seven of 16 so far. Pass to James. [Music] Now here’s Aiden. Ivy defends with the sevenfooter. And there’s Aiden on the assist from James. Aton’s gotten his second bucket. Yeah, so skilled offensively. Getting the ball in his hands is generally a good idea. Smart against Cunningham. And here’s Ivy from the arc. Can’t get it to fall. Now five of seven. Lakers trail by four. Robinson with a steal. [Music] And so he draws the foul. Headed to the line to shoot it there. Man, he made sure to get his money’s worth on that foul. And one thing’s for sure, when Duncan Robinson is on the court, he has the greenest of green lights, coach. Yeah, Brian, look, he’s one of the most lethal shooters around. He draws intense defensive attention and then he’s added to his game as a passer and as a guy who can take the ball to the basket. And he makes a first [Music] He does not get the second one. Lakers trail by five now. The Lakers moving it up outside. Vanderbilt inside the jump hook and James finishes it off. James has got nine points. Love seeing this from Aiden. dependable at finding his teammates in their spots. Dur against Aiden. Dur the pass to Levert. Shot clock at six. Stewart. A screen on James. Shot from 12 and he hits the jumper and the Pistons lead by five. Easy look when the defender isn’t fighting over the screen. Yeah, it’s certainly worth it to disrupt the offense. Coaches notice that extra effort. Now here is James. Nine points in the game. [Music] It’s Levert on the winged by Smart and the dunk by Duran. A Swiss Army knife talent. Levert is very skilled at setting the table for his teammates. Pass to Aiden. Back to Donic from downtown. Sends it home from three-point land. Six points for him. Well, the defense gave that away. He’s a skilled shooter who you have to contest at the AR. Here’s Levert. During with his screen on Smart Levert goes against Smart from deep. The Lakers with a rebound. 116 left to play in the first. And Aiden with the stuff. Excellent timing by Aton on the alley pass. He’s perfectly positioned to throw it down. The Pistons leading. Robinson with it. Pass to Duran. It’s stolen by Smart. Here’s Donic. Oh, that doesn’t go on the chance to tie. Here’s Stewart. It’s rebounded by Los Angeles. Eightton’s got his fourth rebound in this one. To the paint. Here’s Donic. Oh, he took a hard foul on the shot. So, he’ll head to the line to shoot a pair. And this team’s offensive catalyst. Donic puts pressure on the defense every possession. First trip to the free throw line for him in this one. [Music] Shoot. [Music] [Applause] The first one falls for him. And Donius is a walking triple double threat. His versatility and confidence is really special. Hayes has checked in for Los Angeles. Reeves comes in for James. And the Pistons making a change here as well. Thompson’s checked in. [Music] And it’s tied up with that one. 27 seconds left in the first quarter here to the middle. Here’s Robinson. Oh, and it’s a big time dunk as he slams it right over Donic. I almost can’t believe what I saw. Incredible. I’m speechless, man. I’m speechless. [Music] And here’s Donic. Give him eight. puts up a deep three. Oh, and the release was before the buzzer, but it’s off target. And so it’s Jaden Ivy making things happen for Detroit. 11 points in the quarter. He’s on fire. And more NBA action on 2K Sports coming your way right after this. [Music] [Music] And getting it going again here in the second quarter. Fairly close game so far. And looking at what we’ve seen from Detroit. What do you guys think? Oh, what I love was that first quarter was all about leaking out and capitalizing in transition. Yeah, they gave the other team no time to breathe. Every time they got the ball, they were off to the races. And you see how effective this aggressive mindset can be. All right, coach. What are some qualities you’re looking for in a league guard? Well, look, you want a guy that can make plays, that can control the game. When I first got into the league, people thought about point guards as traditional pass first guys, but now it means more than that. You want a guy who can make plays whether it’s for himself or for his teammates. They’ve got Hayes, Austin Reeves out there with Marcus Smart. Then there’s Jared Vanderbilt and it’s Connect in at the small forward position. That’s the group for the Lakers to kick off the second quarter. Vanderbilt always a nice way to start. picks his first one. And once more this half they find a way to get great position inside. Levert goes against Smart. Levert passes to Thompson and Marcus Smart picks up the foul. That’ll be his second foul of the game. Yeah, he tried to gain position but couldn’t quite get there. [Music] Lots of room. Levert outside. Five on the clock. Stewart a screen on Smart. The Pistons need to get one up quick from outside. Off the mark. Hey, sometimes you miss even under the best of circumstances. [Music] Now Reeves, he’s got six outside Vanderbilt. Reeves with a screen on Stewart. Here’s Vanderbilt. He’s in his comfort zone. Two for two to start this one. Well, credit the screen there. Springing him loose for the finish. The Pistons trailing. [Applause] Now here’s Lebert. Hasn’t gotten one to fall yet. Pass to Robinson. Lebert with a ball. Picked by Stewart. Levert outside. He drops it from range. Levert got his first three points of the game. That’s a big make for Levert. Should help his confidence. Smart outside. [Applause] [Applause] And he got the whistle on the way up. So, he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. It’s going to be on Caris Levert. Los Angeles shooting their fifth and six free throw attempts tonight. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots [Music] [Applause] and he can’t get the first one. Aimura’s checked in for the Lakers. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] And the second free throw is good. The Pistons have gone just one of three to begin the second quarter. Thompson. A screen on Smart. Smart against Lever. [Music] Oh, he missed it. Making him one for two now. Los Angeles has gone four of eight from three. A nice percentage. Smart outside. Pass to Reeves. Hayes with a screen on Robinson. Reeves the pass to Hayes. Good on the bucket and the Lakers lead by two. That’s just a great pass. Excellent vision to see the open spot in the defense and lead him to the score. And the timeout called here by JB Vickerstaff. A moment to rest and confer on the game plan. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat up [Music] And here in the second quarter, about 3 minutes played. Thompson passes to Levert. [Music] Four on the clock. The three again. The miss by the Pistons. The Lakers in the lead. Well, Dalton Connect had a late growth spurt during college. And it really helped his game, Grant. He really did. I mean, BA, he started college as a 16 guard, but grew three in during his first two seasons and added some muscle. Now at 6’6, he can play confidently out there on the wing. All right, guys. Some stats here. The scoring breakdown for Los Angeles. Well, they’re in a great flow. The ball’s moving. All those assisted buckets means the offense is running well. And we’ve also got to talk about those threes dropping for them. We’ll see if they can keep up the momentum from long range. And coach, you’ve been lauded by some of your former players for your pregame preparation. I’ve seen it myself in the broadcasting world. Well, I’ve also been cursed by some of those players for my pregame lobsters, Brian. People thought they were way too long, but I just wanted to be as prepared as possible and was one that always believed I’d rather do too much than too little. And let’s send it over to Alli the Force. Thank you, Brian. Well, the Pistons have struggled despite the improvement of their young cornerstone, Cade Cunningham, who said, quote, “This league rewards winning.” People are going to say, “Everything you’ll be doing is empty and meaningless until I win games.” That’s what I plan on doing. And once I do that, all the other stuff will come with it, guys. That’s a great perspective to keep right there, Ally. Thank you. Detroit shooting their seventh and eighth free throw attempts of the game. [Music] and he knocks down the first one. Tobias Harris checked in for Detroit. Kate Cunningham comes in for LeVert. [Music] and he makes the first but misses the second. Los Angeles leading by four. Pass to James outside. Reeves the three knocks it down from distance. Reeves has got nine. For someone with his scoring numbers, it’s remarkable James still makes time to set others up. Cunningham looking it over. Stewart against Hayes. Harris passes to Stewart and stolen by Hayes. [Music] James against Robinson. The shot by James. No good. Pistons trail by seven. Here’s Harris and too long on the shot. Well, he’s got the green light in that situation. They want him taking that shot even if he didn’t get it to go. Pass to Smart. Watching Euro from long range and again the Lakers no good. Detroit has gotten three of their seven threes to find the net in this matchup. Here’s Smart. Smart with a transition bucket. Smart is a pest on defense and absolutely relentless in transition, too. And so it’s Cunningham with it. He brings it up for Detroit. They trail by nine. And JB Bicker Staff decides to call timeout. He’s going to talk it over with his guys. Let’s give coach credit. He’s trying to find a way to squeeze the most out of every possession. Well, that’s the job, right? Your duty as a coach is to finesse your lineups so your guys get the best chance to succeed. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Luca Dona just checked in for Smart and the switch here also for Detroit. Lever checked in [Music] [Music] Cunningham left side. [Music] Harris outside back to Cunningham to the inside and Lever with a bucket on the assist by Cunningham. Cunningham’s got six assists in the game. Los Angeles leading by seven. Outside Reeves. Back to Donic. Lukov, get off me. Oh my. Tight defense, but Donic just muscles it in. Donic against Cunningham. Pass to Harris. and to Cunningham. Six to shoot from about 19. It falls. He’s now two of five from the field. Dialed in. Cunningham innate ability to shoot. Outside Reeves, back to Donic. Pass to James. And he can’t extend the lead to double digits. Pistons trail by seven. Ciringham outside [Music] and here’s Harris. Stewart a screen on Aimura. Here’s Harris and again it’s Detroit converting for Los Angeles. They’ve gotten seven of 12 shots to go here in the second. Pass to Reeves. Aimura outside. nails it from beyond the arc. Aimura’s gotten himself going here. His first points of the game on the deep ball. Here’s Harris. Aimura covering. Paints back. LeBron with the rebound. Coaches load empty possessions. You got to be able to hit the easy ones. [Music] Levert goes against Reeves. Pass to Donic. And there’s another one for the Lakers. And I love Donett’s shot selection. So smart at knowing when to shoot it. Pistons trail by 10. Here’s Cunningham. Gave him eight points now. Stewart outside. Harris against Aimura. Here’s Levert. Donic pulls down the board. Donic has got four rebounds now down low. Oh, it’s stolen by Levert. Pass to Robinson. Lets it go from deep. Rebounded by the Lakers. Hayes has got rebound number five here tonight. James with the ball and the shot falls short that time. He expects to make every one of those and we expect him to make them too. Cunningham left side and here’s Harris outside. It’s Hayes with a rebound. Hayes has got six rebounds in the game. Aimura from long range falls. Great setup by Donic. Aimura’s got six. A smart decision maker with a versatile skill set. Hachimura always takes the shots that he’s comfortable with. Reeves against LeVert. Here’s Cunningham. Cunningham takes the hit and puts it in. Yeah, I’d call this ideal scoring distance. It’s almost too easy. Reeves the pass to James. Reeves with a screen on Robinson for three. James the rebound by Stewart. I mean, he’s trying to shoot his way out of what’s becoming a prolonged cold streak. Yeah, I get it. But you don’t want him forcing things. It’s better to get your shots within the flow of the offense. And Los Angeles making a change here. Smarts checked in. [Music] Los Angeles leading by 11. And Stan, after starting his NBA career playing at center, the 68 Isaiah Stewart more often now a power forward. Yeah, look, Brian, he’s improved as a shooter. He still looks more like an old school big at the four spot, but he can step out and stretch the floor. Hayes, good D by Duran. Pistons trail by 11. Ivy left side pass to Thompson and he was camped in the lane there. He gets a 3second call. It’s so easy to get frustrated when you make mistakes, but you have to keep battling. Yeah, it’s definitely a momentum shifter, but it’s time to refocus, make smart decisions, and start fighting their way back. Aiden, he’s checked in for the Lakers. Reeves comes in for Smart. Now here’s Reeves. He’s got nine. Here’s Donic. The rebound by Detroit. [Music] Cunningham with the ball. He’s got 10. Pass to Duran. Cunningham against Donic. [Music] Shoots from 12. Unable to get that one. The Lakers lead by 11. Inside and it’s slammed in by Autumn Var. Yeah, his athleticism more than makes up for his lack of size. Allows him to compete even against bigger guys. Now here’s Cunningham. Pass to Harris. Dur against Aiden. Duran. The pass to Harris. Back to Duran. And the dunk by Duran. For a center, he’s maybe undized, but his ability to get in the air to make a play balances that out. Now here’s Aiden. He has six outside. And there’s James from the arc. And Cunningham pulls it down. And he just hasn’t been able to get it going this period. Well, the offense has to look for ways to get him easier shots, better selections. You have to be set up for success. Tossing the pass to Wow. And this kind of sick slam is just one of the reasons this team is in charge of this game right now. BA, you know, there’s an edge the way they play and a confidence they’re not afraid to show. and he was dominant in their last outing and the same thing here tonight. He is in a terrific groove right now. Yeah, for sure. He is just oozing confidence. Thinks every shot is going in. They should just keep running sets for him. And so it’s Los Angeles up by a healthy eight points at the end of the period. And it’s all due to their ability to own the paint. They’ve been dominant down low. And don’t go far, we’ll be right back. Heat up [Music] here. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] And we’ve got third quarter basketball here. Two quarters in the books. Nice game. Great performance by Kate Cunningham. I’ll tell you what, he’s still working on his playmaking skills, but he’s been tremendous so far in finding the open man. Well, the way I see it, it’s an added bonus, and you can see team chemistry really growing as a result of him racking up the assists. [Music] And on the floor for JB Bickerstaff as we get into the second half. Down low, it’s going to be Harris and Duran. Cunningham and Ivy work together as the back court and it’s Thompson in at the three slot. Reeves the rebound by Detroit. Duran’s got nine rebounds in the game. Boy, he’s getting it done. Cunningham into the lane and the dunk by Duran. Cunningham seen the floor oh so well in his young career. Los Angeles leading by six. Donic passes to Reeves. Now here’s Aiden. James outside offline with a three. Detroit with a ball. Jacks up a three and Ivy gets it to go on the assist by Thompson. Ivy’s got 14 points. Hot off the pass. Ivy has a shot up. No time to waste when you’ve got a prolevel defense coming at you. [Music] Cunningham against Donic over Cunningham. And once again off the mark by Los Angeles. And here’s Thompson. They’ll bring it up for Detroit. They haven’t given up any points here in the second half. The Lakers have gone 0 for three to start the second half. Back to James. [Music] Donic outside. Aimura with a screen on Ivy. And here’s Donic outside. Rebounded by the Pistons. Yeah, you wonder what is he thinking right now. He’s not shooting the ball well. And shots like that only hurt his team more. Machimur with the ball now guarded by Duran. So it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. Well, Grant, as you always say, in the playoffs, you need a player who can score in isolation. That’s true, BA. And in a sevengame series, defenses disrupt your set offense. If your stars can go mono mono and create something out of nothing, that’s often the best you can get. [Music] That one misses. [Music] And he sinks the Pistons trail by four. [Applause] Harris outside. Pass to Duran to the paint. Deflects the pass. It’s stolen by Donic. Reeves with the ball. Ivy defends and it’s good. Fought through contact. hit the shot and will go to the line. And he’ll be shooting his first free throw. [Music] And that one falls for Reeves. Detroit has gone one of two shooting from the perimeter since halftime. And here’s Harris outside. That falls. Nice feed that time from Cunningham. Cunningham’s got assist number eight here already in the game. Machimura outside. And here’s Donic outside. During with the rebound. Duran’s got 10 rebounds here tonight. So active. There’s Cunningham with a three. And Detroit another three. Measuring that corner triple very well. I like seeing Cunningham bury these types of shots. Outside Reeves. Back to Donic. James outside. Stolen by Thompson. He’s all alone. And the slam dunk by Thompson. Flying high. Assar Thompson. I wish I still had hops like that. James outside. Aimura outside. Knocks down the long. Aimura’s got 12 points. We’ve seen five lead changes so far. Neither team able to pull away. Yeah, this game just feels like it’s going to come down to the wire. Thompson a screen on Donic. Here’s Cunningham. It’s not going to go for him. Excellent D there from Eaton. The Lakers have gotten only two of seven shots to go in the third quarter. Count that one. And it’s a four-point Los Angeles lead. Gifted moving the ball. Luca is one of the best passers in the league. Thompson outside. Pass to Harris. The three ball. They get the rebound. Duran with the buckle. 12 points for him. The defense getting out hustled on the putback. Can’t let that happen. And I can tell you from experience, these are the types of things that drive coaches crazy. Looking to get back on track. Luca on the attack. The size and strength of Donic can go overlooked. I mean, he’s more than capable of scoring there in the paint. And the timeout called here by JB Bickerst. He wants to give him a breather and talk things over. You know, one guy who’s been dead the gun is Luca Donuch. Well, as a coach, you have to make adjustments to put a stop to all the damage he’s doing. The way they’ve defended him is not cutting it. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat up here. [Music] Lakers on D. 13 points was their biggest lead of the game. Harris finds Ivy and he lobbs it up and Harris throws it down. And that’s the kind of fire Harris brings. throw it up and let him go get it. And James has got the ball here for Los Angeles. The lead is two. Pass to Donic. [Music] Donic. You see the strength? The defense couldn’t collapse quickly enough. Detroit has gone seven of 15 from distance in this game. Thompson against James. Here’s Cunningham. Six on the shot clock. Up and over Donic. And it’s Cunningham missing. And it didn’t register as an official block, but he did everything you want in disrupting that shot. Well, you know, sometimes the most pivotal plays don’t always go on the stat sheet. And one thing we know we’ll see Jaylen Duran giving his all on the glass stands out. Yeah, Brian. Look, he’s one of the best permitt rebounders in this league and it’s what the team needs for him, but he’s also become a very good finisher around the basket. And he gets that one. And with the talent and the competitiveness that Ivy has, we’re going to see a lot of nights like this in his NBA career. It’s just a matter of how many. [Music] Pass to Aimura. Now Reeves puts up a three. counted from distance. Leaves has got 17 points. Well, it’s a three-point shooting league. Guys like him are so important for Stacy. Ivy passes to Thompson. Oh, it’s stolen by Donic. And they’re pushing it up. Here’s Eightton. The rebound by Detroit. Cunningham’s got four rebounds now. Rebounded by LeBron. James has got four rebounds in the game. Here’s Aiden. That falls. Nice speed that time from James. James has got his fifth assist in this one. Donic against Cunningham. Pass to Duran. Thompson with it. Durham with a screen on James. Harris finds Ivy. Clock at six. Releases. Yep, it finally drops after rolling around the rim. 18 points for him. Look at the IQ. Such a smart play for a young player. Ivy executed the pick perfectly. Reeves against Ivy. He’s feeling it again. The Lakers score. Rock solid screen right there. The defender got completely lost. Yeah, you’ve got to lock and trail hard. You can’t allow him a clean look. Here’s Ivy. Duran with the bucket. Duran’s got six points in the quarter. You have to put a body on Duran. He’s quick. He’s athletic and he has that 75 wingspan. Donic passes to Aton and rejected. They get it back and with the stuff. Pistons trail by seven. Pass to Ivy. Durham with a screen on Reeves. Ivy goes in over Reeves. Oh, Aiden with the block. Yeah, Aiden has all the physical gifts of a great shot blocker. Size, length, and agility. And lately, this guy is finding points. I mean, just a beautiful second chance bucket right there. Well, he’s been doing a great job in making something out of nothing, especially on the offensive glass. Ivy finds Cunningham. [Music] Now Harris from deep. The offensive rebound and the dunk by Duran. And that was special. It’s easy to be excited about Duran’s future in this league. [Music] Los Angeles leading by three. Donic passes to James. [Music] Kicks it to Donic. Fires the three. Here’s Aiden. And finally they hit one. Aton’s got 12 points. And he’s got such great hands. Aiden corrals rebounds and doesn’t lose his touch on follow-ups. Cunningham passes to Duran. [Music] And here’s Ivy and he loss it up to the rim and the dunk by Duran. He is ferocious on Ali. With his good hands and wingspan, Duran makes for an easy target on the lob. [Music] Ivy against Reeves. James passes to Reeds. That falls. Nice feed that time from James. Reeves has got 22. Not only is he putting up the numbers, but he’s doing it at a very efficient rate. Exactly when his team needs it. Fades away and Aiden pulls it down. When the defense is playing awful like that, you want to be able to convert, but that time he just couldn’t get it done. Oh, and the jam by Aton. You’re looking at Aiden using all of his height and reach, slamming it down on a helpless defense. Thompson, a screen on Reeves. Ivy against Reeves. Now here’s Ivy. Defense right on him and it’s good for two. Ivy’s got nine points in the quarter. Oh, one of the better attackers of the rim. Ivy will not be stopped. And so JJ Reic calls for the timeout. He’s going to gather the troops and talk it over. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat up here. [Music] And the Lakers will go for a different look here. Hayes has checked in for DeAndre Aiden. Vanderbilt comes in for Aim Mura. Connect checked in for James. And Smart subbed in for Donic. [Music] [Music] We’ve got 108 left in the third quarter. [Music] And here’s Reeves. 22 points for him. Vanderbilt. And Vanderbilt slams it in. Throws it down emphatically. He’s got serious hops, right? You add that to his ability to penetrate, that’s two easy points. And the baseline jumper, no good. And so it’s Smart who brings up the ball for the Los Angeles Lakers. Pass to Reeves. Smart outside [Music] [Applause] Vanderville. A screen on Robinson. Just five to shoot. And it’s Smart missing. Well, the defense catches a break there. You expect him to make those? Hey, kept it simple. No reason to get fancy right now. Ba. Yeah, he’s just looking to find shots and produce for his team. The Lakers lead by six. [Music] [Applause] Outside Reeves, [Music] [Applause] [Music] launches a three. The shot off that time. Austin Reeves has been on display for Los Angeles. What a game from deep making five trays. All right, stick around. We’ll be right back after this. [Music] [Music] and a worthy candidate tonight as we take a look at our State Farm assist of the game. Talk about painting a magnificent picture with that, Don. Just a great decision and a perfect delivery. Wow, that was an absolute masterpiece of an assist. He knew exactly when to deliver the ball and it made for a beautiful score. Well, what a terrific game it’s been so far. But this fourth quarter sure to bring more pressure packed basketball. At the forward slots, it’s LeBron and Aimura. Marcus Smart out there with Connect. And it’s Hayes in at the five down low. That’s who’s in the game for the Lakers. The Lakers lead by six. Aimura. The pass to James. Hayes with a screen to the inside and finished off by Hayes. Not even fair. I mean, just shredding the D to pieces. Guarding James and picking rolls is almost impossible given his basketball IQ. Smart against LeVert. Here’s Robinson. And a big finish by Robinson. And just a lack of fight right now on the defensive end. Right. At least on that slam it was that’s one way to let a team back of the game. Yeah. But also credit the offense there. That’s making a play when you really need it. Oh, he packs it down. That is incredible. Can you say immediate entry into the highlight reel? Woo! What a tough PA. It’s showtime now, man. They built up a lead and they’re starting to rub it in. Back to Stewart. Pass to Robinson. Lets the three fly with a rebound. Los Angeles leading by eight. Just over a minute and a half played here in the fourth. Here’s Connect. Robinson defending. Here’s Connect. Back to Aimura. No rebound by Detroit. Stewart’s got his fifth rebound in this one. Pass to Levert. [Music] And here’s Robinson. Now Reed. He’s defended by Hayes. The BA when he gets the rim in his sights, it’s tough to stop. So aggressive and a determined finisher. Nice. And a moment to look at the scoring approach in terms of where the points are coming from the Lakers. Well, their passing has been just exceptional and it’s opened up the floor for them on numerous occasions. Yeah, another thing this offense came in aggressive, driving into the lane, forcing the defense to try to adjust. So far, the defense hasn’t had enough of an answer. The Lakers have gone two of three to open the fourth quarter. has to connect [Music] back to James. Smart outside puts up a deep three. Oo, Levert with some nice D. Pistons trail by five. Little over two and a half minutes of pass here in the fourth. Here’s Laneir over connect again. The miss by the Pistons James outside pass to Smart [Music] on the wing. Aimura Reed with a double. Bachimura. The pass to Smart and those teams from the ark. The rebound by Detroit. Now here’s Robinson. [Applause] Levert outside. Robinson against Hayes. Picked by Reed. Played it in with a nice touch off the window. And you want him taking good shots at this point in the game. And that one was easy. Well, with him, he’s dangerous because he’s so confident. He wants to deliver in these moments. [Music] Now, here’s Achimura. Tight defense on him. Can’t count it. Now five for seven. Pistons trail by five. [Applause] outside. Robinson [Music] Reed passes to Levert. [Applause] [Music] Right at the free throw line, it’s Hayes with the rebound. Hayes has got nine rebounds in the game. Boy, he’s getting it done. Oh, there’s the alley. covers the blob through and the lead increases on a crazy offensive sequence. Man, the dunk alone would have been incredible. Let alone the fact that it came off a 10-point pass. Levert outside Robinson. A screen on Smart. Here’s Levert. He tries in and it’s blocked and it’s out of bounds to the Pistons as Detroit retains possession. Yeah, we have to take another look at that block. Showing no signs of giving up this lead. That block sent shock waves into the opposition sales. Aiden, he’s checked in for the Lakers now. Levert. Shot clock at six. Inside [Music] with a defensive effort. The Lakers lead by seven. pass to Aimura. And here’s James. [Music] Back to Aimura. Robinson with a double. Aimura finds James. Good on the shot. They’re really settling into a nice rhythm now. Starting to gain the upper hand. Yeah, you’re seeing their offense in a flow. Now it’s time for their defense to turn up the heat a little bit. Lever outside beyond the arc and Aiden pulls it down for Los Angeles. They’ve gone five of eight from the field so far in the fourth. Levert goes against Achimura. Pass to Aiden. [Music] Here’s connect. It’s deflected and they forced the shot clock violation. Great deed. So, both teams making some changes here. [Applause] [Music] Pistons trail by nine. Down low. Here’s Cunningham. It’s stolen by Smart. Pass to Aimura. Good D by Harris. Detroit has gone 0 for three here in the fourth. And the ball out of play. Lakers will have it. Some changes now for the Lakers. Vanderbilt comes in for Achimura and James is subbed in for Smart. [Music] Los Angeles leading by nine. Donic passes to Reeves. Aiden against Iran. Pass to James. And here’s Vanderbilt from the arc that falls. Nice speed that time from James. And the Lakers lead by 12. Here’s Cunningham. Thompson outside. Back to Cunningham. Here’s Ivy. [Music] to the middle. Stolen by Vanderbilt. Ivy against Reeves. [Music] Pass to Donic over Cunningham. And the shot is good. Dropping it off the front of the rim. And there’s Luca, one of the most entertaining players in the league. [Music] Now here’s Ivy to snap the cold streak. They get it back. Duran with the bucket. Duran’s got 22 points and he’s leading the charge for them. But let’s be honest, he needs more help if they’re going to get out in front. Well, consistent scoring is a good foundation for a comeback. They can’t be wasting possessions now. Donic good. I mean, he’s ignoring the scoreboard. He just keeps coming at him. Well, you have to play like it’s a tight game. You cannot let up in this league. Vanderville against Harris. Back to Cunningham. Oh, got a piece of it. It’s stolen by Dantic outside. Reeves pass to Vanderbilt. Aiden with it. [Music] to James on the wing. The three-pointer off the mark. Yeah, really unlike him to have this kind of game from three. Ivy passes to Cunningham. And here’s Duran. Cunningham with the ball. Nice touch by Cunningham inside. And no lack in concentration. Cunningham going to work. [Applause] And here’s Donic. [Music] Kayen. A screen on Cunningham from deep. Here’s Donic. And the three-pointer goes. Donic has got 11 in the second half. Rock solid screen right there to defend him. Got completely lost. Yeah, you’ve got to lock and trail hard. You can’t allow him a clean look from him. And the timeout called here by JB Bickerstaff looking to get everyone dialed in and engaged. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Aimura’s checked in for Vanderbilt. All right, let’s check in with Alli Le Force. JB Vicker staff had some words for his team over the break. He told his guys to quote, “Turn it up.” Going on to say, “Only way we get out of this hole is with effort.” Incredible effort. So, show me what you can do out there. It’s a big ass, but we’ll see what happens. Back to you. Thank you for that, Ally. James against Thompson. Ivy outside. Here’s Cunningham and he drains it, making him seven for 15 for the day. Yeah, what a massive showing from K. Cunningham. It’s been really a treat to watch. Here’s Donic to the inside. Here’s Aiden. Oh, and the jab by Aton showing great vision and delivering the pass out in front and Detroit has possession. 15-point game. Thompson a screen on Reeves. Here’s Ivy. Drilled from 11 ft out. Ivy’s got 22. You know, Ivy wants to get to the rim, but good judgment taking what’s there. Los Angeles has got two of five threes to go here in the fourth. And he’s going for the lob. Oh, and the jab by Aton. You could just see how in sync they were there. That’s what it takes to pull that off. Pistons trail by 15. 149 left in the game. Ivy outside tries a 10-footer. The shot that time not on target. They’ve done a great job of moving the ball tonight. The NBA keeping everybody involved keeps everyone engaged. Leaves with the screen on Thompson and James puts up a deep free and Ivy pulls it down. Detroit has got nothing to fall from outside the ark here in the fourth. 0 for four. It looks like it’ll be a big win for them here. Time to just cruise to the end of the game and chalk up the victory for the Lakers. One area where they set themselves apart today, their aggressiveness and getting steals. It really hindered their opponent all game long and of course it helped spark their own offense and propelling them to a solid win. It was a night of big plays for DeAndre Aton. Well, he was the catalyst for them tonight. played a great all-around game and you could see his teammates feeding off his energy. Don’t sleep on the size of Tobias Harris. He’s not afraid to bang and bump down there. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Music] The first one falls. Capable of playing both the three and fourth spots, Harris’s versatility is his greatest strength. And the Lakers will go for a different look here. Hayes is checked in for Aton. Vanderbilt comes in for Achie Mura. Connect checked in for LeBron. And Smart subbed in for Reeves. [Music] and Harris drops them both. Grant wouldn’t be a bad idea here to slow it down. Yeah, the coach is definitely looking for patience and execution. They grabbed their own miss with the step back. Here’s Donic. Smart for three. A rebound by Detroit. 7second difference between the shot clock and the game clock. To the wing on the left, Levert passes to Robinson. Stewart a screen on Vanderbilt. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Shoot him too. [Music] First free throw is good [Music] and he can’t hit the second. Levert goes against Smart. So, we see the Lakers taking the W here. Even early on in this game, they appeared happy to be playing at home, and it makes a huge difference. Once they started to get into a groove, you never really felt like they wouldn’t come out on top. All right, now let’s check in with Ally Leforce. Ali, what do you have? Luka, yes, another victory for you, but the games will keep coming. So, what’s the most important thing for this team to establish? I mean, compete. You know, the way we compete today from the start till the end, uh, the game is never over and just compete. Well, you put together a full game tonight and it paid off, guys. All right, Ally, thank you. And that’ll do it, folks. for Stan Van Gundy, Grant Hill, and Ally Leforce. I’m Brian Anderson, thanking you for watching the NBA presented by 2K Sports. And let’s leave you with our player of the game, DeAndre Aton. [Music]
