Man I’m 35 and I’m just a little too young to REALLY remember him playing.
You’re posting in a place where the general audience weren’t even a sparkle in their dad’s eye yet when he retired 20 years ago.
He was the man. Paved the way for Wes Welker and Edelman types.
He would’ve played a lot less games if the current concussion protocol was in place then. I saw a video of him a few years ago and he didn’t look like he was doing well. I saw him in person about 6 months ago and it seemed like maybe he had somehow gotten some help with the cognitive issues (CTE), his eyes seemed clear, if that makes sense. Wishing him well, he was a warrior.
My favorite player
Grew up watching him play, he’s the man. Reason I’m a Jets fan and played wide receiver in high school.
He was my all time favorite
Was lucky to win a 1997 contest and he came to my apartment for a MNF watch party. True story. I chose him over Michael Strahan. Wayne was our favorite player, for his grit, underdog status compared to Keyshawn, and of course his local roots.
He was a true warrior. I felt guilty watching him get leveled play after play, knowing it had to take its toll, especially coming on the heels of Al Toon’s short but brilliant career.
Still my favorite Jet of all-time. It was a honor watching him play.
My favorite jet, my favorite jersey. The legend!
The Green Lantern!
Wearing his jersey to the game in Tampa tomorrow. My all time favorite
Idk if I should love or hate him but he’s the reason I’m a Jets fan. I was a kid and white receivers were so fucking cool to me 😆.
Favorite Jet of all time
Ate his cereal in college. Met him at a game once. Love him.
I have no idea if this is a figment of my imagination but I swear I remember Wayne Chrebet catching a clutch pass to convert on third down and getting absolutely walloped to the point of losing consciousness… But somehow still maintaining possession of the ball through hitting the ground totally out cold for the first down.
That single play is the epitome of Wayne Chrebet to me. That dude was an absolute warrior who seemed willing to die every time he stepped on the field. He wasn’t flashy or super talented (great hands, though), but he made up for it with grit, will, and determination.
Absolute franchise legend. Read an article a while back that he likely has CTE as he has permanent migraines, mood swings, and forgetfulness. Hope that isn’t true but I can totally believe it from the way he played.
One of my favorite players ever – I mostly remember the incredibly difficult catches he made in big games against good defenders.
Any time I was playing school yard ball, I tried my best to emulate him. He was a grinder. A footballer’s footballer. The way he knew he was gonna get creamed and just went up and got first downs for his team.
My favorite player of all time in any sport.
i had the pleasure of meeting him and shaking his hand. Tightest grip I ever came across. He was a lone bright spot in decades of darkness
Loved that guy! He was the spot light.
Wayne Chrebet was my hero when I was younger. He’s still my favorite Jet player. He showed me that with courage, tenacity and toughness you can overcome the fact that you weren’t the biggest or fastest guy on the field.
He was ahead of his time. Love him way more than Meshawn
I loved this guy. A true underdog and great hands. The best thing to come from the Rich Kotite regime.
Wayne Chrebet is the reason I’m a jets fan
