Aces High tonight
It’s only been 17 days since the fall of the Roman Empire. It seems a lot longer. The Eastern (Romy) Empire carries on as best it can, but until the Emperor Justinian (Wilson or Slaten) takes the throne, and sends out General Bellosarius to war, the lost territories will not be recovered.
Perfect, Crochet is just what we need. Hopefully. Honestly, the entire playoff picture is so muddled right now that I can’t tell what our chances are, other than that winning is definitely good for us.
We took the season series against New York, 9-4. Took the season series against Houston 4-2. Took the season series against Cleveland 4-2. Split the season series with Seattle 3-3, so I’d say we root for them this weekend against Houston even though they’re a really scary potential playoff opponent. Detroit swept us in the first series against us this year so the best we can get is a split, so again, we’re better off with them pushing Cleveland further back next week even though theoretically if the Guardians catch them, we’d be in striking distance ourselves when we finish the year against them. And…Toronto has already clinched the season series against us, 7-3 with three games left, so we’re basically out of the running for the division. We’re 6 back, but we’re effectively 7 back…they’re 8-5 against the Yankees, too, so even if we did sweep them to get to 6-7 against them, a three-way tie wouldn’t help. If by some miracle we go 9-0 and the Yankees were *exactly* 6-3, we’d still need Toronto to go 2-4 in their other six games to win the division, though we’d still be ahead of the Yankees no matter what.
Which on the flip side means that if Toronto goes 6-0 in their other six games, we can sweep them and still not give the division to the Yankees even if they go 9-0. Man, do I wish the order of our last three stores was Detroit-Tampa Bay-Toronto instead of Tampa Bay-Toronto-Detroit. So much more information already taken care of.
Sox couldn’t score against the As and they just gave up 3 runs in the first to the Pirates. Go fucking figure.
Tigers currently down 3-0 against the Braves and are just two games ahead of us. If the Tigers flame out, we could make the playoffs even if the Guardians catch us (also, Guardians play Tigers 3 more times)
Gotta get up for this one.
