🔴LIVE 🔴Milwaukee Brewers VS St Louis Cardinals / September 19/MLB THE SHOW 25

Dur MLB the show has action out of the NL Central. It’s the Milwaukee Brewers taking on the St. Louis Cardinals. And we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. Just about set today’s starting pitcher, Gordon Grapho. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So, when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center. Scott makes the catch. One up, one down. Let’s take a look at the Brewers lineup. This team can really pile up the runs, Chris. They’re among the top teams in scoring this year. Yeah, and when you can get a lead and be out in front, it really changes what that opposing manager can do with the bullpen. And on top of that, it helps your own pitching staff. It gives them more margin for errors. So instead of pitchers squeezing the ball, trying to throw darts and be perfect, they can relax, let the ball come out of their hands and pitch effectively. So that offense and the ability to score runs also helps the pitching and the defense. Slings to first in time. Batting third catching William Cont. And now it’s William Contrarus. Ball one there. That catches the zone for a strike. And the count is one and one. [Music] And a foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And there’s a ball and downstairs. Come on, Cardinal. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Two outs. Base is empty. And that one off the inside edge. He walked him and that’s their first base runner of the game. Now, this was a story we were paying attention to before the game. We’ve seen him give up walks in the past and it’s an issue once again early on. Here’s Yelich at the dish. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Let’s go St. Louis. Come on St. Louis. Contrarus off of first with two away. Battling here as he fouls it away. Strike him out. That’s the ball. Strike him out. Next pitch is outside. Take them out. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Andrew Vaughn in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. So, here we go again with the walks. It’s been a real struggle finding the zone for him in the past. Now, even if they get out of this jam, these walks add pressure and stress to the entire team. Andrew Vaughn now first offering and it just misses. Pretty smart not to serve something up for him right there. He’s really good at hitting the first pitch. [Music] on the inside corner for a strike. [Applause] Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Two outs, couple of base runners at first and second. Let’s go. Let’s go. Popped up. Fair ball. Contrarus headed for the plate. He will score and they take the lead. It’s an RBI single. One- nothing. Always feels good when you come through and get your team on the board first. That one probably had no business ending up as a base hit, but he got just enough of it to muscle it to the outfield. And that pitch was well in off the plate. A tough one to handle, but he gets rewarded. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Isaac Collins now at the plate. Right through there for a strike. At this point, the clean inning is over. Got to settle in, focus on the hitter, and get out of it with minimal damage. [Applause] Two on, two outs. swings through that one out in front that time. All you got to do is concentrate and execute this next pitch. Get yourself out of the jam, back into the dugout. And a swing and a miss. Inning over and it could have been worse. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now one- nothing. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here with my pal Singi and today’s starter Quinn Pster. Well, he’s putting together a really nice season on the mound. Erra in the low threes. Very respectable when you consider guys are looking to do damage. They’re not trying to just walk and hit singles. They’re trying to hit homers and draw walks and score runs. So when you have a guy that can limit the other team from scoring more than a few runs, that’s really tough to beat. Game in and game out. Swinging a liner foul off to the right. There’s the strike at the knees inside. Almost got him. The 2-2 gets a check swing. Now an appeal to third. No swing. He held up. Patrick Johnson with the call there. The wind of the pitch. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Good played appearance there. Able to take the walk. And that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. hitter. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Lead runner to second. So, two on and nobody out. Waste no time there. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Alec Burlson. So clutch. You could argue that he’s been this team’s MVP this year. And that one fouled off. No outs. Runners at first and second. Next pitch off the play. One ball, one strike. and fouled off. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. First and second here. No outs. [Applause] Not close with that one. Now two and two. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Nolan Aronado in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] He fouls it off. Will do it again. Ninth pitch of the at bat. Due next. And a swing and a miss. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Well, Boo, I’ll tell you, when he goes to look at the video of that pitch, he’s going to want to punch himself. That slider had hit me written all over it. And clearly, he just got a little too excited and was out in front. Tell you what, when you get a pitch like that, you cannot miss it. Those have a chance to go a long way. So, now it’s Dolan Aronado. Tap foul at the plate. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. Come on. [Music] [Music] And now one and two. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. And a foul ball. He stays alive. [Music] just misses the mark outside the zone. Way to lay off that pitch down that misses the zone. Three and two now. Nolan Gorman in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. First inning and already up to 23 pitches. [Applause] Tap back to the mound. Here’s Ortiz for one. Not in time at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. Here’s Nolan Gorman. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season. So, they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. [Applause] Squirts away a little bit. The tag and got him at second. They don’t come much closer than that. Bang bang play to end the inning. So, one left for the Cardinals. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. Back here at Bush Stadium. Second inning set to go. Here’s the third baseman. Number 21. Grapho. Back to work. Right through there for a strike. [Applause] The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. And that’s in the dirt. Just missed. Next offering is in for a strike. Swanging a highf fly ball in the air left field. That one’s deep and it one hops the wall into second easily with a leadoff double. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. Blake Perkins up now for the Brewers. Third baseman playing on the edge of the grass looking for the sack bunt. Spikes that one. It goes to the back stop and on the wild pitch he goes down to third. He just hasn’t had it in this one. Been fighting himself out there. And that’s just another example of it. We’ll see if he can find it at all while he’s still out there. The 10 swing and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. Runner from third comes across. It’s an RBI single and they take a two-run lead. Comes through with the RBI. That line drive isn’t going to light up Statcast or anything like that, but it gets the job done. And he just kind of caught it on a weird spot of the bat, but he didn’t get cheated with the swing, that’s for sure. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Joseph Ortiz the next to hit. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. Grapho keeping him close. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Ortiz in his second season, hitting ninth in today’s lineup. And they went out and made a trade for him last season. Foul ball there in the dirt. It gets to the back stop. Perkins into scoring position on the wild pitch and there goes the double play possibility. Definitely trying to work down and get that double play ball, but it got away enough to erase any chance of that. Good job of moving up in the scoring position. Now a hit could make that wild pitch really sting. [Music] Misses inside and it’s to a two. Really good take especially with two strikes. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Brown’s third headed for the plate. The throw in. It’s offline. The run comes in. It’s three zip. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Really protecting with two strikes right there. Pitch wasn’t even close, but man, he got the barrel to it somehow. Nice job of bad ball hitting. Here comes a manager out of the Cardinals dugout, and he’ll make a move to the pen. Gordon Graceo out of the game. Not what they were hoping for from the opener. So, we’ll see a new arm on the mound when we get back. New pitcher for the Cardinals, Sunny Gray. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. So the lineup flips over. Jackson Chorio up now for the Brewers. He’s 0 for one. That one’s in there. 0 and one. finds his way through base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Now batting second base. This is Bryce Terang. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. First pitch misses. Ortiz on second. Chorio out at first with nobody out. I think it’s very important to establish the inside part of the plate early. Sets the tone for the rest of the game. [Applause] two and a foul ball makes the count two and one. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. A rope into right and that’s a base hit. They won’t test it here. Bases loaded, no outs, man. Those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. Now the base is loaded. Big opportunity for them to break this game open. William Contras up now for the Brewers. Walked his first time. That one in there across the letters. Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame here in the top of the second. [Applause] They need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you got to make some pitches. But if he can battle and get through this, he can earn some points. Now this is in the air down the line and that drops foul. You could see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little tardy on the fast ball. [Applause] Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Base is juiced. No outs. Got him swinging on the curve ball. And that is a big first out. Oh, that’s a curveball that people like to describe as a hammer or Uncle Charlie. And you can see why. It’s not a looping slow curve. He throws it hard and it gets plenty of bite on the end. Yell in the box now. No balls in a strike. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. just missed. Could use a ground ball here. Something in the infield. Runner at first base. Get two. Get out of this. Larry Bullard making the calls behind the plate for us in this one. Pretty good strike zone. Well reviewed by those we talked to around the league. Yeah, he’s an umpire. He doesn’t get a lot of looks from players. Maybe here and there once in a while, but he’s appreciated back there. Boo. In situations like these, the air can get really thin up there at the plate. Got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down. There’s the swing and a miss. [Applause] Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Base is loaded. One away. Ah, that got him. And that’s going to force in a run. Andrew Vaugh will hit next. Singled and drove in a run his first time through. It’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. the number three overall pick out of Cal for the White Socks in 2019. The O1 is outside and it’s a ball and a strike in the air of the infield. And the infield fly is called baby. Now batting left fielder Isaac Collins. Isaac Collins up now for the Brewers. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Ripped but it curls. Foul. Two outs. Bases are full. inside and a count even one and one. [Applause] [Music] Swinging a drive deep right field way back there. Can’t get to it as it drops into the corner. Yell flies around third. The relay to the plate. Not in time. He scores. And they’re pulling away up by seven now. How about that? Clears the bases. Put a very nice swing on that pitch right there. Got one to drive and just kept it fair down that right field line and into the corner. And it’s almost impossible to track those down as an outfielder. Here comes the manager out of the Cardinals dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Sunny Gray will depart and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching now on the bump, Chris Royoft. And he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Man in scoring position with two away. Now the third baseman, a double and a run scored his first time up. And that’s off the outside edge. Ball one and that one goes straight to the back stop. So a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. have to be really sure you can make it safely to third when you’re in scoring position and two outs. Got to get that run across. Very important. Does a nice job of reading it. Gets to third base now just 90 ft away. Two outs and one in scoring position. Nasty two slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike and a good eye there. Two outs with a runner at third. Now a fly ball to right center. Walker on his way over and makes the grab and that’s the third out. So in the end, 10 come to the plate, six of them come around to score. Now to the bottom of the second, it’s the Brewers seven and the Cardinals nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Standing in is the power hitting second baseman Nolan Gorman. Taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level and first offering is fouled off. Hit hard on the ground is short and a quick out number one. batting six. The shorts stop Thomas Sajay. Here’s the shorts stop at the play. Thomas Sajay-Z outside and that’s ball one. And that one is lifted in the air. Chorio on the move to the gap. Hauls it in for the out. Batting seven catcher. Two down, base is empty. Jimmy Crooks next up for the Cardinals. Just missed. back up the middle in a base hit and that extends the inning batting eight right fielder Jordan Walker next up for the Cardinals St. That’s ripped. Base hit. [Applause] Lead runner to second with two gone. Batty ninth. center fielder Victor. Now up for St. Louis, Victor Scott. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball on the ground right side. Bang bang play and the inning is over. So the Cards strand a couple. They continue to trail 7 nothing. onto the third inning and stepping in is the speedy Blake Perkins. That one’s in there. It’s 0 and one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Andre Palante, the young right-hander up and throwing. Ley getting loose as well. Swinging a foul straight back. [Music] Foul ball. Still a one and two count. St. Louis gets a piece and stays alive. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. blows the high hee past him. That’s a strike out. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. One down, base is empty. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Swing and a high-fly ball down the right field line. Walker makes the grab for the second out. Now batting rightielder. So the batting order turns over. Next for the Brewers, Jackson Chorio. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offense aside for just a second. Chris, it’s the defense. Oh, this one high and deep way back there and it hits the fence and he’s got a double. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. Put a really nice balanced swing on it. And when you can rope one into the gap like that, you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box. And he’ll feel real good about that one. Man at second here with two away. Bryce Terang up now for the Brewers. One for two and it’s fouled away. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat, automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Pitch is in there. That is strike two. This one in the dirt. Chorio at second with two down. Let’s go St. Louis. Come on St. Louis. Hard hit left field. Base hit coming home. He’ll score easily. Throws to second. He’s in there. He quickly went from hitter to base runner. Love when guys make that transition. And he’s got speed to put on a show. Next for Milwaukee, William Contrarus. He is struck out and he is walked. He’s trying for third. Pitch misses. Throw to third and he’s in there easily. Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. One run, a pair of hits, no errors, and one left on. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Brewers eight and the Cardinals nothing. Back here in a blowout, which gives us a chance to talk about just about anything. Bro, don’t get me fired singing. Did anybody ever give you the silent treatment? I don’t remember that they did. I think they were pretty cool with me in terms of celebrating my rookie year. First home run came in Anaheim against the Angels. And I always love to watch now though, especially when that player is unsuspecting. You know, some guys, they’ve they’ve been around long enough to know there’s a good chance I’m going to get the silent treatment, but when that player has maybe been grinding it out for a little while and finally gets that home run, is expecting the big lift coming into the dugout and they just stonewall him, it’s awesome. In time, Devon, one gone, bottom of the third inning for the Cardinals hitter. And up next for St. Louis, Ivon Herrera, one for one with a single so far. Every once in a while they’ll work that same trick on a veteran player if say he’s been cold or hasn’t hit a home run in a long time. And that’s always fun when you don’t see it coming at all and everybody in the dugout goes crickets on him. Yeah. And and that veteran players usually got a response for those individuals with one or the other hands. That was your worst start one year. Didn’t you start like three for 33 or something? Oh, it was awesome. It was I mean it was awful. Not awesome. It was awesome for It was awesome for pitchers facing me, but it was awful for me. It sounded like some type of deal at a fast food restaurant. Like three for 33 or something. Goes down looking for the strikeout. He’s got to be frustrated with that call. So, he gets the call and picks up the strikeout looking. Sometimes with a good hitter at the plate, he’ll be the one to get the benefit of the doubt if he lays off on a close pitch like that, but just not right there. Strike zone definitely expand a little bit with two strikes. And here’s the first baseman, Alec Burlson. He dives, but he can’t make the catch. Flip to the pitcher is in time. And they come away with an out after a tricky start to the play. So they go quietly there on to inning number four. It’s the Brewers eight and the Cardinals nothing. And we’re back. John Shampi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Christian Yelich. All right, let’s go St. Louis. St. Louis. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. One and0. Hit pretty well in the air out to center. Scott sizes this one up. Puts it away for the owl. Now that first Andrew And now the first baseman Andrew Vaughn and first offering is fouled off. Come on, let’s go. Fast for a strike. One out. Base is empty. That’s outside. Going to count one and two. struck him out looking. [Applause] Now batting leftielder. Two out. Space is empty. And now Isaac Collins. Foul ball. Two outs in the air left field down the line and that’s a fair ball around first heading for two and he’s got his second double of the game. Two hits for him in this one. Both for extra bases. Got to feel good about that. Just a bloop hit behind third right there. And that’s a really tough play for a third baseman or shortstop to get to. And the same for the left fielder. So he just found a perfect place to drop that one in right there. That one hit to right. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. They extend their lead as the runner scores from second. It’s an RBI single and they now lead by nine. Runner at first with two away. Blake Perkins up now for the Brewers. Right through there for a strike. One run across in the frame so far. Top half of inning number four. Perkins tries to check his swing. Now a look to third. Did not go. left field. And that’ll do it. So they pick up a run on two hits. No errors and a man left. We’re midway in the fourth. It’s the Brewers nine and the Cardinals nothing. Back here in St. Louis. Bottom of the fourth. Here’s the third baseman, Nolan Aronado. Aronado clearly down in this ball game and you can’t look at the deficit and try to get it all back in one swing. It’s got to come one at bat at a time and even shrink it down smaller pitch to pitch. Make that guy on the mound work to get you out. This is one of those times when you want to be aggressive. Go ahead and pitch to contact. Let the defense work behind you. You’ve got a nice comfortable lead. Don’t try to be too fine. And a rope into center field. Base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. [Applause] Now batting second base. Now it’s the second baseman Nolan Gorman 0 for one so far. And first offering is fouled off and a swing and a miss. Generally second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. Ripped to third. There’s one and it’s a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. The short stop. Two down, base is empty. Thomas Sajay-Z. Next up for the Cardinals. Fly to right. His first time. In the air, pretty deep out to center field. Perkins on the move, brings it in. And that is the third out of the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Brewers nine and the Cardinals nothing. Here’s a new pitcher from the pen, Kyle Ley, coming on to face a righty here. And he’s been fantastic against him this year. and his numbers in those matchups are very good. Up now for Milwaukee, Joseph Ortiz. Joseph Ortiz. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond, and this guy is at the top of the list. Swings here and blasts one left field. And it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. Safe at second with a leadoff double. Back to the top of the order. Here’s the leadoff man for the Brewers. Jackson Torio. Drove it off the wall last time. Just missed out on a home run. That finds the mark on the inside corner. Yeah, we go beyond just the, you know, fielding percentage and, you know, what it looks like, but the ability to have a range and, you know, close holes that, you know, are normally there against an average defender. But this guy is special and you can see it in his first step quickness. Ortiz leads off second with nobody out. Hugan, the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hittingwise, you can struggle, you can lose your mechanics, but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. Let’s go. Man at second. Out to short. Tosses to first. One away here in the fifth. Now batting second base. Now the number two hitter Bryce Terang. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. Fast ball is outside. And now two and nothing. Come on. Swing and a foul out of play. Runner at second here. One gone. Yeah. All right, St. Louis. And that one missing low. Clips the corner. And now it’s filled up. Three and two. Rip to shortle over to first. Two away. [Applause] Here’s the Brewers catcher now. William Contras. William Contras. He is a talented player. His big brother Wilson has voiced that his little brother may end up being better than he is one in the dirt. Right through there for a strike. [Applause] So a foul ball makes it one and two. That one missed. Was a good pitch there. really had some run and finished a little up and end just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout and that’s a little bit high and it’s three and two. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. Hey, you got this. Outside corner. Got him looking. Milwaukee leaves one, but they still hold a nine nothing lead. Back here in St. Louis, ready to go for the last half of the inning. And now the Cardinals catcher, Jimmy Krooks. Jimmy Pester back to work. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Movement in Milwaukeee’s bullpen. Jared Kanig appears to be getting loose. Miserowski getting cranked up as well. You know, these Cardinals just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. They’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority, but it’s just not happening for them so far. zero extra base hits in the game. So, it’s been tough for him to get anything going on the ground right side and that’s just fouled. Sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through, but it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have runners in scoring position because they put themselves there. Good job to fight that one off. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That K is his third of the game. Now batting Jordan Walker next up for the Cardinals and he’s already singled in this game. Highfly ball out to left field and there’s two down. Now batting center fielder Victor. Two outs. Base is empty. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Victor Scott. He’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors. in there for strike one. Oh, he hit him. And that got him pretty flush. Now batting. And here’s the St. Louis leadoff man, Lars Nbar. All right. And first offering is fouled off. Scott the runner at first with two gone. This ball’s chopped on the ground. Come on to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. Now batting. So now here’s the Cardinals designated hitter, Ivon Herrera, his home and away splits there. [Music] You can do it. headed towards the corner. Fair ball. One run across. Nukebar around third. He’ll score. Two runs are in and it’s 92. Back to back base hits. That can be a really tough pitch to handle. A front door breaking ball. But he did a great job staying in there, keeping that front shoulder closed. He didn’t spin off the ball and hook it foul, which happened so many times. Now up for St. Louis, Alec Burlson. B for two in this one. Down the outside corner. 0 and one. Oh, and one man on second, two down. A little out front there as he swings through it. More and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count in this situation. We’ll keep a close eye on his approach. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Runner at second. Two down. Next pitch inside. Yeah, they count. One and two. Up the middle. Ortiz handles, throws to first. They limit the damage here. They put two on the board with a couple of hits. No errors and one left. Five innings complete. It’s the Brewers nine and the Cardinals two. And welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the start of the inning. Now it’s going to be Christian Yell inside. Just missed. Well, these Brewers, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. Everything seems to be clicking, and the six extra base hits in the game kind of tells you everything you need to know. They’re not getting fooled up there at all. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Calls it in and there’s one away. Now batting the first base, Andrew Vaughn. Andrew Vaughn up now for the Brewers. Swanging a ground ball gets it to first. Two quick outs to open the top of the six. Now batting left fielder Isaac Collins. Two down, base is empty. Isaac Collins up now for the Brewers. Fast ball for a strike at 95. He swings and fouls one off. Well, two outs and a chance to put up a zero on the scoreboard here. And that’s not something that’s come easy for this staff in this one. flying drive and that’s a base hit out into center field. Zoe gets on base and keeps it going. Now batting third base now the third base at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Two outs outside with a breaking ball. One and two here. Stays alive. Good eye right there. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. 3-2 now. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it right through there. Got him. That ends the frame. Brewers strand one, but they still lead it 9-2. [Applause] back now for the bottom of the sixth. And there’s a new pitcher on the mouth, Jacob Miserowski. And he’s had his struggles so far this year. As you can see, the inflated RA looking to bring that down a little bit right here. Here’s Nolan Aronado leading off with a cardinal. Third base Nolan Aronado. Come on. That’s inside. And that is ball one. [Applause] [Music] That one in triple digits. The 1-1 is fouled off. Some real good life going through the zone on that one. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. No, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone, and then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so, when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early, and a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. Gorman batting with one down. Takes the strike. Movement in the bullpen. Jared Kanig, the left-hander, is getting that big fast ball of his ready to go. St. Louis. [Applause] Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. [Music] got him swinging for the strikeout. Now only one out remaining. Chance to strike out the side. Now you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Say-Z in the box again, takes a strike. Two down. Doan now. One and one. Just missed with that good fast ball inside, but it plants a seed in the hitter’s mind. He’s got to be ready for that pitch, which will open up the outside part of the plate. And he blows that one by him at 100. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early, maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. The Cardinals down to their final strike. That one misses. Two balls, two strikes. The count. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. And a swing and a miss. And that is the ball game. After four wins in a row, you start to think a little bit that you’re on a roll. And that’s the momentum that just takes on a life of its own. Players start hitting up and down the lineup. Never know who’s going to come up with the big hit, who’s going to come out of the bullpen and get the big outs. But it’s a good feeling and you want to extend it. This one ends the final 92 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shabi saying so long.
