🔴LIVE 🔴New York Yankees VS Baltimore Orioles/September 19/ Mlb Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

after this. Just about set to go. And our pitcher tonight, Cade Povich and Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Bill, you know, this guy wants to be better than that. I mean, the RA is bloated. He understands that he’s got to put his team in a better position to win ball games. And at this point, you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that W. And if you do that, you’ll look up and most likely that erra will have dropped over time. Next pitch is downstairs. Fast ball for a strike. Hammered. And now maybe extra bases around first heading for two. Throws to second and he’s into scoring position with a leadoff double. Maybe a chance for our first run here. Everything came together for him. Great hands on that swing to take the inside pitch and drive it into the gap for the double. It’s easy to spin off a pitch like that. Boo. And you can pull that thing foul. But that was perfect. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Aaron Judge digs in now. What a season it’s been for him. He has supplied a lot of power and that average in the dirt. Blocked. You know, Boo Judge is one of those guys that leaves his mark on everything he does. Yes, he’s great at baseball, but he’s also known for working with charities and in his community. He’s a special human. No doubt about that. [Applause] Judge waits. That one misses and it’s three and0. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Take it all the way on 3 0 right there. And as a hitter, you’re saying, “Why couldn’t I get that pitch earlier in the count when I’m looking to swing?” And that is out of play. Comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt and it beats him for the first out after the drop. Third strike. No advance. Good job behind the dish. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before was up. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder, but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact. Here comes Belly to take his guts. Deep drive down the line. Foul ball. Thought that ball was hit pretty hard and sure had home run distance, but if you’re the pitcher out there on the mound, you executed just Oh, now this is blasted way back there. On its way. Gone. He nails one out to right. Home run number 30 on the year. The Yankees score first. It’s two nothing. He got on plane with that high fast ball and look how his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Absolutely crushed that pitch. One down. Here’s Stanton now. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Stanton measures 6 ft 6 in, 35 years old, and he was a second round pick back in 2007. Hard hit right side and he takes it himself for the hour. Batt, here’s a look at Aaron Boon’s lineup for the Yankees. This is a very patient lineup we’re going to see. They’ve got the most walks of any team in the league. So that’s a big part of their approach as an offensive unit. Boo. And when you can do that, the amount of pressure that that can put on the pitcher making him, you know, grind through every hitter. So much that he’s got to think about when you got base runners on and hitter. And so free base runners, they’re going to happen when you have hitters like this. up to the pitchers to figure out a way to have better command and make sure that they can get some outs when they do get a base runner double play. But when you have a team like this, very difficult to stop. Two outs. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Got him looking. And that is that. Another look at the long ball for the Yankees and it’s two zip. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back now at Oriel Park. And on the hill in this one, Max Free Singing. He’s managed to rack up a lot of innings on the mound this season. And Boo, this guy’s getting close to 200 innings on the year. You know, there’s some milestones that pitchers go after. one of them 20 wins. But another one that we don’t talk about a whole lot is that 200 inning threshold to be able to surpass that says that hey they prepare themselves for the season. They were able to stay healthy and they were able to pitch effectively enough to stay in ball games long enough to reach that number. Pretty impressive on what he’s done and it’s not over yet. And it’s fouled away. Not close with that one. And it’s one and two. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count. One, two. Don’t miss in the zone because that’s where you get hurt. Judge has it sized up. Makes the grab. One away. Time now to take a look at the Orioles lineup put together by manager Brandon Hyde. Someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs. Jorge Matteo. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Jordan Westber stands in now and watches strike one. Swinging a ground ball up the middle, dives, but it kicks off his glove. No throw. He’s in safely. And now there’s a runner at first. Batting third, the short man at first with one gone. Gunner Henderson, the next to hit for the Orioles. Not getting the results he’s wanted at the plate recently. Barely hitting over the Mendoza line this month. Westber leads off first with one away. Let’s go base hit here in the air left field down the line and that is a foul ball. This is one of those situations defensively where you can’t try to do too much. You got to make sure that you field the ball cleanly and get one out first. It’s going to be tough to get two with this kind of speed in the batters box. The shorts stop takes a ball. the other way. Fair ball. Lead runner makes the turn at second. Coming home. He’ll score easily. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. That was a thing of beauty. He may have been a little behind the pitch, but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in his swing, he was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left. Here’s Tyler O’Neal. That one outside and that is ball one. Next offering is fouled back. One out and a runner at second. The 1-1 is fouled off. And the curve is down and in. Well, he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here, too. Two. He’s already seen the curve ball a couple of times in this at bat, so might have it timed up and ready for it. And there’s a ball. [Applause] And that one hammered. That’s bad. tattooed to Tater Town and gone. And they jump out front. It’s 3-2. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. [Applause] Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. was very patient and it paid off. [Applause] One out. Base is empty. And now the right fielder Jeremiah Jackson. And that’s in for a strike. One down, base is empty. And now the count is even. Foul ball there. The pitch swings through that one. It’s a strike out. I got to think that was the plan all the way. He set him up with a high fast ball and then bury that curveball down low to get him swinging now. Especially with how effective pitchers work up in the zone these days. That’s a devastating combination. Yeah, the batter now Kobe Mayo. That one finds the zone. 0 and one. Two out. Space is empty. Splits the plate and it’s on two. Pretty rare location right there. Right down the middle. This guy paints the edges. I’m not sure if you’re going to see that pitch again as a hitter. Stays alive. First inning and already up to 23 pitches. Swag and a miss. Struck him out. That’s a third out. But they strike for three in the inning. Two on this two-run home run. It’s now a 32 ball game. Back after this on the show. All set for the start of the inning. Now here’s Trent Gisham and Singy. We already know he’s going to finish the season with a new careerhigh in home runs. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. That one fouled off. 0 and two now. Fights it off. He’ll see another. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with the fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Just missed. That’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s got a leadoff double. Love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there. Pitch was in and off the plate. So hard to do anything with a pitch in that location, but somehow he got the barrel to it and hit it well. Pretty amazing. And now Anthony Vulpi, good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. Come on. Breaking ball misses down and away. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Fast ball for a strike. Let’s go. There’s a one-1 in the dirt but kept close. [Applause] Squirts away a little bit. Two two now. That one ripped. Matteo going back on this one. Bangs off the wall. Tying run is in to score from second. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Stepping in, Jose Caviierro, and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. man at second. That’s too low. One and one. Ed Drummond behind the plate calling balls and strikes. Maybe one of the most respected umpires around the league. He’s not the kind of umpire that you’re likely to notice back there. And that can be a huge compliment really. So, if you’re just kind of quietly doing your job, staying consistent with your calls, hitters, pitchers, managers, even fans, they’re all going to appreciate you. Ed Drummond, he’s that kind of umpire. This one in the air right field. He’s there. He’s got it. Grounder tags at second and the throws offline. Safe at third. batting night catcher Austin Wells. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Here’s the Yankees catcher now. Austin Wells in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate. And now two and nothing. And a strike. Was a good pitch there. Really had some run and finished. Little up and just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broke up the middle. lays out but he can’t squeeze it. Vulpi scores. It’s an RBI single. It’s 43. Well done. Drives in the run. Fielder got a piece of it, but the way that thing came off the bat, no surprise at all. He couldn’t pick it cleanly. It’s a very difficult play and that swing definitely was deserving of a hit. And Paul Goldman will come up to hit. First pitch misses. and that’s in for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone, middle away. grounder might be two. There’s one and that’s two. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. We go to the bottom of inning number two. The Yankees four and the Orioles three. Back here in Baltimore, ready to go for the last half of the inning and into the box for Baltimore. Samuel Basalo. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. and he grounds one to the right side. He steps on the bag and a quick out number one. Batting eight center fielder Jorge Mateo Jorge Matteo now he’s going to finish with a new careerhigh in stolen bases. Chris up and in. And that’s ball one. [Music] And a swing and a miss. One ball, one strike. That one way inside. Straighten him up a little bit. One out. Base is empty. Next offering in there for a strike. That’s strike two. Smoked on the ground to second. Throws to first in time. Already two out here in the home half of inning number two. Second base. So digging in Luis Vasquez. Swinging a foul out of play. Two down. That one down the line and that’s just foul and misses inside. And that one is in the dirt. And the count’s even at two. swings and misses and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. So, no runs, no hits, no errors and no one left. We play two full, the Yankees four and the Orioles three and welcome back to the ballpark. Now at the plate, Aaron Judge. does. He’s a guy who does it all with the lack of contact in today’s game. This guy hits for contact, so he delivers average, but there’s on base and slugging, too. Backed off the plate that time. drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. That one’s carrying and that ball is gone. That’s one way to quiet the crowd. His 49th home run of the season. And they add on. It’s 53. Power versus power right there. Like two locomotives colliding. Who’s going to win? Well, a really good job there by the hitter getting the top hand working. Powers that fast ball out of here. Here comes Cody Bellinger. He’s already homered here in this one. Looked like it was a little bit up early in the count. You have to be real careful because of that power. But then if this hitter gets a strike or two on him, he’s still very comfortable because he has the ability to get the barrel to the baseball. He’s a threat deep into the count as well. That one is hammered right field back there. Gone into the flag court. Another homer. His second home run of the game. It’s 63. Backto back jacks and this club is fired up right now, Boog. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow. And here is John Carlos Stanton. He has, as they like to say, let me guess, boo. Light tower power. That’s right. Love how vocal the umpire is today. No doubt in the hitter’s mind, catcher’s mind, and even the pitcher’s mind as to the conviction in the call. Misses off the plate. One ball, one strike. Clearly, he hasn’t had it in this game. And looks like sooner than later, they’re going to have to go to the bullpen. That’s in there. And the count is one and two. So far, all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count. Nobody on, nobody out. A pair of runs across in the inning. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. In the air, left field, brings it in. And there’s one down. Now batting second base. Now it’s Ahmed Rosario. Struck out looking in his first at bat. That clips a corner. cracks his bat and pops him off. Vasquez. That’s out number two. Now batting the second Trent Gish. So the batter now will be Trent Gisham. Doubled in his first [Applause] This ball’s chopped on the ground. Vasquez tosses to first. That takes care of Gisham. And that is the inning. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working and they’ve doubled up now. It’s 63. Major League Baseball is on the show. And we’re back. Bottom of the inning. Now it’s the DH Ryan Mount Castle. and mouth castle. Max Freed will go to work. We talked so much about how starting pitchers prepare for their starts. I talked with Max Freed and one of the things he told me back in 19, he and Lucas Gilito started using MLB The Show to go over scouting reports on the ground right side. Goldie steps on the bag. Leadoff man retired here in the third. Third base Jordan West. Jordan Westburn the next to hit for the Orioles. Reached on an infield single his first time. Max said he’s not sure who actually started at first, but it was 2019 and he and Gito, who were teammates together in high school in Los Angeles, they had the idea to become more familiar with the opposing lineup using MLB the show. swing and a ground ball base hit right field. So, a man aboard now with one away. Gunnar Henderson the next to hit for the Orioles. Doubled his first time. Henderson. This one in the air. Pulls it down and he makes the catch and there’s two away. Now batting left fielder Tyler O’Neal. Here’s the left fielder, Tyler O’Neal. He’s already homered in this game. Let’s go. In for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Now, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. And that’s a fair ball. Throw cut off to second. Not going to get him. He’s in there putting some good swings on the ball. That’s his second extra base hit in this one. I don’t know how he was able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So, pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. So, two down. So, next to hit for Baltimore, Jeremiah Jackson. There’s a strike. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. Right side, makes the catch and that’ll do it. Orioles strand a couple and they’re still doubled up. It’s six to three. Back now at Oral Park. Start of the fourth and now the shorts stop. Anthony Vulpi taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. That one misses. Ball one. First sign of movement in the Orioles bullpen. Kyle Bradish getting ready to go. Kramer also throwing. Blind drive. That’s a base hit into right field. So a runner aboard to start the inning. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. Now the Orioles manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Cade Povich out of the game and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Tommoyuki Seagado comes on now. Coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Jose Cababierro stepping in now for the Yankees. He’s 0 for one. That cliffs a corner. Caviierro measures 5′ 10 in 190 lbs and they traded for him earlier this year. Baltimore. Just missed. The one-1 is fouled off. goes down looking for the strike out. He’s got to be frustrated with that call. Well, definitely a borderline pitch right there. And he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout. You know, those are tough ones to let go as a hitter, but with a human umpire calling balls and strikes, it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes. Austin Wells getting ready to hit. There goes the runner. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Yankees up by three. Next offered in there for a strike and the count is 0 and two. And ball one. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. That one just misses. Really good take, especially with two strikes. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Smashed to the left side. Westber to second. What a double play that was. Inning over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. On now to the bottom of the fourth. Yankees six and the Orioles three. Back here in Baltimore. Bottom four. And into the box for Baltimore. Kobe Mayo. Mayo. Freed back to work. That’s a strike thanks to the sweeper. You know, these Orioles doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. It’s not just the three runs they’ve already scored. On top of that, they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game. Swinging a ground ball and foul ball. And that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there, it may force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later. And a swing and a miss. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. And next for the Orioles, Samuel Basalo, 0 for one so far. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Yeah, he threw that fast ball right by him. Gives him a little bit of confidence, but in the back of your mind, you got to think, is he trying to set me up for later in this at bat? Late swing fouled to the left. Now an 02 from Free. That’s down and in. 02 curve right there. Hitter kind of expects that. And good job of just showing that confidence and trying to get back into this count. swing and a highf fly ball right field. That one back. That one on its way and it’s gone. And they close the gap. It’s 64. That swing just injected more drama into this one. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Jorge Matteo the next to hit for the Orioles. lifted in the air right center field. Pauls it in and there’s two away. Now batting second base. Now it’s the second baseman Luis Vasquez. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. just missed. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Next offering upstairs that one missing inside. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Headed towards the corner and a foul ball. Three and two. The pitch is outside and ball four. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Mount Castle the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. Missed inside with the curb. Vasquez off of first with two away. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strikeout on the hill, but not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast. It’s a two-run lead now at 64. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Paul Goldmid now. Smith. Yankees. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. You know, these Yankees digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. Everything seems to be clicking. And the six extra base hits in the game kind of tells you everything you need to know. They’re not getting fooled up there at all. And it’s caught for the out. [Applause] Now batting rightielder Aaron. Here is Aaron Judge. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. That one hammered center field. That ball’s carrying. That one is gone. Home run number 50 on the year and they tack on to their lead. It’s 74. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Boo. I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. Base is empty. One away. Bellinger up to hit. Fast ball in for a strike. 0 and one. Heart of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. This guy who grew up in big league clubouses. It’s got to be a nice feeling, Siggy, when your father played in the big leagues and he passes down all that wisdom. Hard ground ball base knock. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting left fielder Jean Carlos Stanton. And now it’s John Carlos Stanton for two in this one. First pitch not close. Yeah. And beyond that, all the other men in those clubouses that sort of take you under their wing as a son or a nephew and show you some of the tricks of the trade. It’s just invaluable that type of experience. That’s off the inside corner. Ball two. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Got it. Bellinger goes whacked out to center field. That’s well struck. That’s back. Gone. And to the deepest part of the park. It’s their second home run of the inning. And they add to the lead. It’s 94. That’s their fifth homer of the game. Man, they’re all getting into the action. It’s starting to feel like a home run derby up here. Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. Took a direct path to the ball. Excellent extension and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Tommoyuki Seagado won’t go any further. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. Kyle Bradish on a pitch out of the pen here. And with the big deficit on the scoreboard, he almost has to just put that out of his mind. Every outing matters for relievers in their numbers. But I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game. Ahmed Rousario will hit next. Clips the corner. Strike one. Still only one out here in the inning. Line drive. No trouble here. puts it away for the out. Two down. Now batting the center fielder Trent Gisham. Two outs. Space is empty. Now it’s Trent Gisham to the plate. One for two. Pitch misses there and it’s one and0. And another ball. Last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. That’s inside and it’s three and0. Two gone. Base is empty. But three runs across and we’re in the top of the fifth. And that’s ball four. Tried another slider, but it missed the plate. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. And there’s a foul ball. Now this one gets away from the catcher. You know, sometimes it takes a reliever a little time to get comfortable with the mound out there, especially when they come in trying to be nasty with every pitch they throw. Not exactly what they were looking for when they called him in, though. We’ll see if he can settle down. [Applause] Foul ball still a one and two count. Man on second. Two down. Lifted to left center. Way back there and that is gone. He sends it out of here. Their third home run of the inning. And they boost their lead. It’s 114. You feel like everything goes slow motion when a breaking ball like that leaves the hand right down the middle of the plate and it’s like the pitcher screaming no and the hitter saying yes and the ball gets tattooed for a big home run. So up next, Jos Cabierro. He gets there with the slide throw to first and that’s a nice play to end the inning. They had the long ball working three times for a total of five runs. Last half of the fifth coming up, it’s the Yankees 11 and the O’s four. And we’re back. John Shabi with my buddy Chris Singleton. It’s set to get us started. Bottom five. Jordan Westber. [Music] and first offering is fouled off. Swan on belted that one back and it hits the fence. It’s a double. Third hit of the night for him. Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. So, next to hit for Baltimore, Gunnar Henderson [Applause] outside corner. There’s the stride. Freed out of the stretch. Fires and that one clips the corner. And that’s a strikeout. Ed Drummond says he won around. Now batting. So here’s the cleanup hitter, Tyler O’Neal. O’Neal. Get another one. He swings and fouls one off. Runner at second here. One gone. That’s inside. two strike. Next pitch is outside. [Applause] That’s to third. Get there. Over to Goldie and O’Neal is retired. Now batting number 82. Now it’s the right fielder Jeremiah Jackson and first offering is fouled off. Runner at second. Two down. Last half of inning number five. Grounds one to short. Move it. Throws to first and that ends the inning. One left for the Orioles. They’ll need to pick it up. It’s 114. Back now at Oral Park. And now Austin Wells. There’s the strike. Movement in the Orioles bullpen. Kate Straoud, the rookie right-hander, is getting loose. Kramer also getting ready. Next one misses. And now it’s even. One and one. Let’s go. Come on, Oreos. You can do it. Come on. just missed it. And it remains two and two. Let’s go. swings through that and it’s a strikeout. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strikeout. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Back to the top of the Yankee order. Now, here is Paul Goldmid. First pitch. Just misses. just missed that one back up the middle and it gets through. So, a man aboard now with one away. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. A nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Aaron Judge at the plate. He’s already homerred twice. The last one back in the fifth. Just seems like he can’t miss right now. Seeing the baseball as well as anyone on the field. Now, I know the odds are against him, but who’s going to bet against this guy right now? And first off is fouled off. And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider man at first. One away. Swing and a miss. Struck him out on a slider and there’s two gone. Well, clearly just anxious right there and understandably so. and an 02 count. You feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out. That’s just one of those pitches where it’s not over the plate, but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand, by the time you realized it wasn’t going to be in the zone, it’s too late to hold up your swing. Bellinger stands in with two away as he takes a ball. Next offering is in for a strike. I got a ball. One strike. The 1-1 is fouled off. Swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes and he’s registered three Ks in this one. One left for the Yankees. They lead it though 11 to four. Back here in Baltimore, where we go bottom six and now the first baseman, Kobe Mayo. Mayo. Tap foul at the plate. Next offering is down low. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. One ball, two strike and down on strikes. Picks up strikeout number seven. Oh, tough night at the dish. Punching out for the third time right there. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable at the plate. a little unsure of his timing right now. Not picking up the spin and location of these pitches. He’ll have some adjustments to make. Basalo the next to hit takes ball one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Number 31 getting loose out there for Aaron Boon. Yarro getting cranked up as well. Bases empty, one away here in the bottom of the sixth. And a big swing and a miss. One and a foul ball. [Music] That one missed. And now the count is full. And another power hitter lurking in the on deck circle. Ground ball up the middle. Dives and he can’t hang on. No throw and the defense comes away with nothing. He was all over that one. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. will hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly, but you can’t really blame the defense in that case. Darren Boon makes his way out of the dugout and he will make a move to the bullpen. Max Freed will give way and it’s going to be a start that he’d like to get a redo on. Not his best. Back with the new arm in a minute. And we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Will Warren and he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits, period. So, a man aboard, next to hit, Jorge Mateo. He’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Outside with a breaking ball. line to left. Stanton right there to make the grab. Out number two. Now batting second base. And into the box for Baltimore, Luis Vasquez. All right, that pitch in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Check swing called strike. 0 and two. just misses with that one. His understanding the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close O2 fastball. I just don’t know how you take that. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Well, this game isn’t very close, Singy. Let’s see if we got any messages from those tuning in today. I know we got some good stuff in there. Singy, where do you stand on the wave? Well, the wave of star players in MLB or the wave around this ballpark. The wave around the ballpark. I think it’s a little outdated. I’m more of a Thunder Sticks guy. And that’s not outdated. And another ball. Yeah, you see some guys into the fashion nowadays and big on uh on the gram as the kids like to say. Post their their fits, right? That’s what that what you say. That is that what it is? The fit. Your fit. Your outfit. You’re fit. Got a little drip around the neck, too. Yeah. Believe it. Scale of 1 to 10, how old do we sound right now? Uh really old. Like close to social security benefits. Yeah. [Music] knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And that’s downstairs and outside. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. Five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headtohead. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet. That one misses. So, a leadoff walk. You know, I think he’s okay with that outcome. It wasn’t an intentional walk, but he wasn’t exactly trying to attack the zone either. Man at first, nobody out. Ahmed Rosario stepping in now for the Yankees. 0 for three in this one and that’s in for a strike. 0 and one. And that’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike with the situation, runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. That one not close. And it’s two and one. Runner at first with no outs here. Next offering is downstairs. These first two hitters really making him work out there. Already 14 pitches this inning. [Music] And the righthanders 3-1 into the outfield base hit. And now to a board. Well, patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it, man. Sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. Now, the Orioles manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Kyle Bradish will depart and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now, new pitcher now, Dean Kramer. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Trent Gisham stepping in now for the Yankees, a former first round pick, and he’s really turned into a nice everyday player. And that one upstairs. First and second, no outs here in the top half of inning number seven. That misses the zone. Two and 0. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. on the ground to first. Could be two. Throws to Henderson. Back to first. And that is a double play. For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. Here’s the short stop at the play. Anthony Vulpi. And it may be a long shot, but a triple here will give him the cycle. And a strike on the outside edge. Two outs and one in scoring position. That one ripped right center field. Ranging back. Stanton scores and it’s an eight-run lead. plays the plate and he’s out. He tried for the inside to Parker and he couldn’t make it. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. So they get one run on two base hits. No errors, no one left. Seventh inning stretch time. Yankees 12 and the O’s four. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s Ryan Mount Castle. Warren back to work and a pop off right side. Foul territory and there’s one down. One pitch, one out. Now batting third. Now Jordan Westber, three for three with two singles and a double. Warren, 25 years old, and he was drafted in the eighth round in 2021. First offering, and it just misses. And another ball. The Yanks up big in this one here in the bottom of the seventh. And that misses. And now 3 and 0. Three ball. No. [Applause] Yeah. There’s the strike. Swing and a miss. And a full countdown. This one in the air. Welds. nabs it. That’s out number two. Now batting shortstop, Gunnar Henderson. Two down, base is empty. And next for the Orioles, Gunnar Henderson struck out on just three pitches last time. Baltimore. Clober to right field. Way back gone. That’ll fire up the dugout. It’s 125. He wasted no time in that at bat. Swinging at the first pitch and he punished it. [Applause] Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle so when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. So now it’s the fourhole hitter, Tyler O’Neal. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. Two outs. Swang and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. [Music] The one-1 is fouled off and a one two. Gets a piece and stays alive. in the air. Left field down the line and a foul ball. Fouls it off. Still one and two. [Applause] Two down. Nobody on. [Applause] swings through it and that’s a strike out. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. Eighth inning coming up. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. We go to the eighth and stepping in for the Yankees, Jose Caviierro. Just missed outside low and that’s ball two. Two balls, no strength. Now he breaks his bat. Basquez drops into the glove and there’s one away. Now batting catcher Austin Wells. Austin Wells stepping in now for the Yankees. And first offering is fouled off inside. just missed. And that one is lifted in the air. O’Neal getting an angle on it. Puts it away for the out. And there’s two down. Now batting first base. Two out. Space is empty. Here is Gold Schmidt. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely. Try to hit the ball out of the park. do what he loves to do. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Bats in there. And it’s 0 and two. This guy’s not wasting any pitches. Hitters got to get into swing mode. This is a good time to expand the zone. Throw something maybe down in the dirt. And there’s the ball. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Just off the outside part of the plate. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Baltimore. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Got him. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Yanks held in check as the lead holds at 12 to five. Out of the bottom of the eighth and into the box for Baltimore, Jeremiah Jackson. in the air right field. Did he trip? What happened? Sniper. Great effort. That’s how bad he wanted that one. Head first dive. Bounced to the right side and he handles it himself for the out. Now batting first baseman Kobe Mayo. And now it’s going to be Kobe Mayo. Three strikeouts already. He’s 0 for three. That one’s in there. It’s 0 and one. And the sweeper misses for a ball. The Orioles with a lot of ground to make up here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. One, two now. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him full. Two down, base is empty. And here’s the catcher, Samuel Basalo. That one’s in there. 0 and one. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. Ball one there. Caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner. And a popup on the left side of the infield. Cabierro should have this one. Brings it in. And that is that. This one pretty well decided at this point. Ninth inning coming up. Yankees 12 and the Orioles five. So they turn to their closer, Yenir Canó. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Yeah, the hardthrowing righty trying to secure these outs against a potent Yankee lineup. And it starts with Aaron Judge. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. in the air out towards right center. Jackson pulls it down. One away. Now batting designated hitter Cody Bellinger. Here’s Cody Bellinger. No matter what, when you’re playing this kind of rival, take your game to another level. Come on. That misses the zone. And that’s ball one. The Yankees up big in this one here in the top of the ninth. That one’s in there. Strike one. One down. Base is empty. To the right side, Vasquez tosses to first. Bellinger is gone. Two away. Now batting leftielder Jean Carlos Stanton. John Carlos Stanton to the plate now. That one misses. Ball one. That one pushed foul. Two outs. That one is absolutely belted. And that ball is out of here. Another homer. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game. It’s 135. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage, even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. Base is empty with two away. Here’s the second baseman, Ahmed Rousario. Pitch misses. One and0. That one missed [Music] and that one fouled off. It’s strike two. [Applause] And they’ll do it again on the ground out to short. Henderson slings it across and that is that. John Carlos Stanton flexing that big time power swing. We head now to the bottom of the ninth. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. So, bottom of the ninth now. It’s going to be Jorge Mateo. There’s a swing and a drive. And that one hops the wall. Safe at second with a leadoff double. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. That was exactly what you’re looking to do with a pitch away, especially in that situation. Drive it into the opposite field gap. He got himself two bags on a great swing of the bat. So next they hit for Baltimore, Luis Vasquez. A walk and a pair of strikeouts. Right through there for a strike. And one. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Drilled out towards left center field. That one carrying one hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. The run comes in to score from second. 13-6. Seeing some good swings from him right now with consecutive extra base hits. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. Back to the top of the order. Ryan Mount Castle the next to hit for the Orioles. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. One on, nobody out. A run in here in the last half of inning number nine. Hit in the air center field. Gisham trying to get there. Squeezes it. Runner tags and goes to third. Now batting third baseman Jordan Westber. At the plate, Jordan Westber. You have to find a way to score the runner from third, especially with less than two outs. Wait for the pitch you want and hit it as hard as you can. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. check swing and he went and they count one and one ball right one away with a runner at third out towards right center that’s well struck this one could be trouble in comes the run from third our score 13-7 [Applause] and he’s into third have a game. That’s his fourth hit. Picks himself up an RBI. Man, that feels so good to shoot an absolute bolt the opposite way. Split the gap and know that you’ve got extra bases right off the bat. That’s the kind of thing hitters dream about when they’re falling asleep at night. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Will Warren is done and he leaves a runner at third. So, we’ll see how the next pitcher deals with that when we get back. Number 31 takes over on the mound. Well, walks have certainly been an issue for him this season, so we’ll see what kind of command he has. here in the bottom of the ninth, one out. And next for the Orioles, Gunnar Henderson, ripped to third. Zips it across. Out number two. And another run comes in. Well, it’s a way to get the run across right there. You chip away at this lead. You try to get more runs without giving up outs. We’ll see what they’re able to do. So, they’re down to their final out. Here’s the Orio cleanup hitter. Tyler O’Neal gets the slider in there for a strike. Ball inside. Ripped to short. Jump throw. And that is the ball game. Seven home runs. What are we playing? Whiffle ball. Anytime you hit seven home runs, you better win the ball game. And that’s what they did. Really impressive today. 138 is your final. What a win for the Yankees. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. Thanks for joining us.
