2025 Prospect Showdown 2/2 WPG-3 OTT-2 OTW Jets Fan Reaction!!

Guys, it’s only a game. It’s only a weekend games of a bunch of kids. But holy crap, is this the Danny Zilkin that we’re getting this year? Watch out. Get ready to fly. Ready for [Music] Good morning, afternoon, and evening, ladies and gentlemen. And your Winnipeg Jets go undefeated this weekend. They they went undefeated. They were the best prospect team there, which is not a sentence I expected to say going into this weekend. I thought for sure the Havs would beat them. And maybe the Habs would have if they didn’t change their goalie halfway through, but that’s neither here nor there. The Winnipeg Jets roll into Montreal and put up an undefeated showing, beating the Montreal Canadians 4 to3 in regulation and the Ottawa Senators prospects 3 to2 in overtime in a game that I was really impressed with a couple people, although it wasn’t all um sunshine and roses. And let’s talk about it. So, first off, first off, let’s let’s just bring this in. Let’s just bring this in. Um, I heard the complaints about the sound quality last time and so I’m going to try to hold the mic a little lower and also um what I we normally use a tripod and the tripod itself. So basically if anyone has doesn’t know how a road mic works uh I’m going to be very quiet but I’m going to pull this off and you’ll see that there is a like um a microphone piece. There’s a second piece that plugs into my phone, and that thing was going in and out of it like the entire time. So, see, good, good, good. So, hopefully the the audio is better, but all of you mother showed up. You showed up last time. Love you for that. Appreciate it. Um, yeah. So, let’s let’s talk about today’s game. Um, the Danny Zilkin show is basically what this weekend has turned into. Danny Zilkin, and it’s important to note that Danny Zilkin was drafted a few years ago. He was one of the older people there. However, nonetheless, he was all over the man looked like a monster out there and he looked better than some guys that I didn’t think he would look better than. You could tell that he’d been there before. He looked more more comfortable than a guy like Braden Jagger who I believe went pointless this uh entire weekend. Um he looked significantly better than Nikita Chipperov. Granted Nikita Chippov has went through numerous um knee problems, but still Danny Zil the the whole weekend Danny Zilkin is going to be the the talking boy. He put up four points in two games including two game-winning points. uh one being a game-winning goal and one being a game-winning assist. Fantastic. Fantastic. I cannot sing his praises enough. He moved the puck well. Honestly, if this is what we’re going to see from Danny Zilkin in the AHL this year, I’m very excited for the Manitoba Moose’s sake. That’s going to be a hell of a career uh career a season for him. So, let’s talk about it. Um so, Kieran Walton, I didn’t even realize this. Kieran Walton got injured last game, so he’s out. but his brother uh Connor Walton, who’s a defenseman, will come in uh in much the same way that they’ve had Vlad Neestikov’s brother, Max Nemesis in. I like when I like when the organization does this. I don’t have a problem with it with the casual nepotism. It’s fine. It’s completely fine. Um that’s that’s neither here nor there. Uh I will say this, the Jets defense, and I every time I have said the Jets, I have resisted the urge to say the Moose because I’m just so used to half these guys playing on the team. Um the Jets defense they bring to this young uh this prospect showdown. There’s a little bit to be there’s a bit to be desired. Um some of them looked okay. I think Salammonson was fine. I don’t think he was setting the world on fire, but he did all he could. And there were some other notable guys that were good. The invites were fine. They were not great at times. Uh, I feel like I saw like a couple of them in the penalty box a little too often, but other than that, it’s okay. Um, first period of this game is largely inconsequential. I think it was 000 after the first period. Um, it could have been one like I the goals kind of come in and out. Um, the first goal they give up is Oh yes, it was a it was a first period goal um that they scored. Uh, a pass cross. Oh, by the way, Worthington’s a net. Alex Warthingington is in the net and I liked his performance tonight. I thought he was really impressive. Again, a game it’s almost like watching the regular Jets the way that the this these two uh Jets games decided to rely heavily on their goalending and then thankfully score when there was less guys on the ice. It’s it was very nice of them to do that uh to give us a little sneak peek about a week early. Um, but yeah, Warthingington looked good and I I’ve already I’ve always liked Warthington as an ECHL AHL option. I think this reinforces that slightly, although I’m not sure if he’s going to get any AHL games much with the um the steep hill to climb of goalending depth chart that the Winnipeg Jets have. Uh, that being said, I thought I thought he was well. I thought he did well. Thought his rebound control was a little bit spotty. However, his recovery saves were there when he needed them. So, it doesn’t it’s one of those things where if if you’re going to have bad rebound control, you need great recovery saves, and he got great recovery saves. Um, I think Chase Yodar continues to impress me, and I’m really eager to see what he’s going to do with the Manitoba Moose this year. I think his lackluster season perhaps with the Friars was just a byproduct of playing against a lot of better teams. I I’m I’ve liked everything I’ve seen from Yodar this weekend. Um Kevin He looked okay. Kevin He was getting a little bit out muscled though. I will say it it um he wasn’t he was struggling to kind of just find his way out there. I noticed um Jacob Julian had a good weekend. We we’ll talk about him a little more in a sec. But yeah, so Jets give up the first one. Uh they do get score in the second period though. Um it is a beautiful give and go here. Uh so first the officials miss a high stick which really pissed me off. But then they transition the puck back the other way. Danny Zilkin slides a sick feed over to Ben Zelotti the uh Manito Moose defender who somehow got that far up ice and he just tucks it five hole to make it one-1 reaction here. Drops it off to the line, turns it over though and now Schilen who was slow coming out of the zone has the puck. Twoon one. Shen across to the front of the goal and they score. Benalotti jumps up into the rush and a silky smooth finish to tie the game 1-1. That was just nice to watch. Great play. Great play. Uh great job by Benotti on the finish. I It’s funny. We didn’t really get to see a lot of Benzeli with the Moose last year because he kind of got brought in like um the uh like in the Graham Schwarz spot like a few like how you expect 90% of what he’s going to play is going to be in the ECHL because there’s just too many guys. So So yeah, but I I liked it. I I I I’ve liked Beni. I think he looked okay. I think he was probably easily like a top four defenseman for the Jets this this uh weekend. Not a high bar, but it’s there. Um, but yeah, the Jets um keep pressuring. They they get a lot of good chances. Um, Nikita Shipperov gets hit with a bit of a cheap shot here. He never gets the puck never really gets on his stick at any point. It’s it’s kind of hard into the boards. Could have been boarding or interference. I don’t remember what they gave, but um and then Elias Salammonson jumps in to fight. And I’m like cool on like the toughness factor, but also Aaliyah Solomon is not somebody that I that uh the idea of fighting resonates with me. Let’s put it that way. I I don’t think he’s a big a big scrapper. So yeah, like it was it was fine. But yeah, the Jets go to the power play and it’s a nice when they get set up the power play looks nice. It was I will say this, the power play throughout the game frustrated the hell out of me cuz it it felt like Ottawa was just getting too too easy of his own exits. They were completely just sending it down the ice for the latter half of this game. This being the one exception. Um they they funneled the puck to Nikita Chibberov who basically like Danny Zilkin the night before just walks in and wires it. The only difference is here is that the shot from the point as opposed to the sideboards and the shot doesn’t cleanly beat the goalender here. Uh Jacob Julian in front gets a deflect deflection on it to make it a two-1 game. Uh reaction here with back to Jagger into the circle across the ice. Chimberov in for a shot and they score. The key to Chimikov on the shot. Julian might have got a piece on the way through and a power play goal gives the Jets a 2-1 lead. Yeah, as I said a little bit earlier this period it seems like the Jets have got their legs underneath them and and you got to take advantage of that power play because of how bad that Yeah, great play. Um and I will say this Julian underrated underrated I we gave Julian a lot of flack when we drafted him. We weren’t really sure what we were getting. I think we know that it’s kind of an it it’s an Adam Lowry blueprint is what I see for Jacob Julian. I’m not saying that’s what he’s going to become. I’m saying that’s the blueprint. I see a tall forward that can play in front of the net well, that likes to get into those tight battles along the boards and also has a really good defensive streak. That’s that’s the the blueprint I see for Jacob Julian, and I don’t have a problem with that. Um, now the Jets would eventually give up a tangle in very Jets fashion. They take a penalty. They were penalties um two and four were kind of bad for the Jets all night. When they got power plays, they didn’t really do a lot other than the one we just talked about. And when they got penalties, it just felt like they were on the verge of giving it all away. Um and it becomes a shot from the point that beats Worthington with six seconds left in second period. A bit of a heart bit of a not a heartbreaker, but a disheartening moment here because you you want to go to the to the intermission with that top with that lead still intact. That being said, we go into the third period and it’s I don’t want to say like I think there are moments in this period where the Jets look good. I think if I recall the the beginning of the second half of the third of the third period was good. Um but around that it was just a team that was holding on for dear life. Um Edison Engel, let’s talk about him and Jacob Cluchier. Uh Cluchier I thought was good. I didn’t realize he had uh I believe two assists actually in last game. So, um that’s that’s a miss on my part. Thought he was okay. Edison Angle looked all right. Um Owen Martin was okay. I I I didn’t get to see a lot of him out there. Um, I I liked him in bits and pieces, but also too they were very uh conscious of making lines with guys who played a lot and then making other lines with guys who hadn’t played as much in these types of pen uh uh young uh classics. So, the the new guys kind of felt like they were jumping into something is what I’ll say. Like you could tell there was a bit of an adjustment there. We go to overtime because the Jets are incapable of scoring. Um they get two golden opportunities late in the third and they just do nothing with them. Uh so we go to the overtime period and I thought this would favor the Jets. I was pretty confident uh just like the broadcast of Daniel Frink and and Jamie Thomas was. By the way, I I’m I love those two together. I think they are great on a broadcast. I think Daniel Frink is extremely underrated as a broadcaster and I’m really a fan of his work and Jamie Thomas is no slouch at all. And he always feels as somebody who’s finally who has done color commentary now and and can sit there uh and not just go, “Wow, it’s so easy. Why don’t you do it so well?” as I give Kevin Sawyer grief. I I understand the difficulties of color commentary and um Jamie Domus does a wonderful job. Uh that being said, let’s go into the to the overtime now. Um, a lot of back and forth chances, couple good saves by Worthington, who again, I can’t stress enough, had a wonderful game tonight. And it’s good for him. Like to for him to basically be like he knew he was going to be probably getting an only an AHL contract. And for him to go to a showdown like this and end up getting a win is such a just a wonderful moment for his career. And I’m I’m very happy for him along with all the other guys who will may never get a shot in the NHL to at least wear a jersey, an NHL jersey and win a hockey game. It’s just it’s just wonderful stuff. Um Jets get a couple good looks. You could tell it was going to have to be Danny Zilkin, though. Danny Zilkin had to be involved in this play because Danny Zilkin, as we’ve said before, ha was the be I would beg I would I say this very uh hesitantly. I would argue that Danny Zilkin had the best of of the four teams that brought prospects, Danny Zilkin had the best weekend. He had four points. He was involved in two different gamewinners. He looked like a he had two goals, two assists, produced all over the ice, um power play and even strength. I would say that Danny Zilkin was the best player. Now, you would argue now you would probably argue that it should be Ivan Demidov and I would say and you know what I wouldn’t get too upset about that assessment. I would say that Ivan Demidov definitely looks like a man amongst boys, but also Danny Zilkin looked phenomenal tonight. Um, and he basically drives the net, does a wraparound, and I when he did this, I went, that’s not the play I would use. The goalender is clearly there, but he hits it off the pad of the goalender, and it just shoots right out to Fabian Wagner, who who just finds his goalcoring touch at the right time. Roofs it to make it 3-2 in overtime. Reaction here. Swings in behind the goal, tries the wrap around, rebound, they score. Fame Wagner, overtime winner. And the Jets take this one three-2. [Applause] [Music] Didn’t take long. Buck 17 into overtime. And that’s Danny Zilkin losing his speed on the wrap. And now um yeah, that’s about it. All those young players will probably not uh are are done. That’s that’s it. There’s two games. We don’t get to play against the Toronto Maple Leafs prospects, which is a shame because after running at full steam, I could run through a brick wall to beat those uh Leafs prospects, which I think the Jets would. Um overall extremely impressed with the overall team, like with the team effort. They they won both games. That does not happen often. Usually they go to Pentictton and they kind of get their lunch handed to them. It’s it’s happened a couple times where we’ve had high expectations and they get just like and just suffocated and they lose, but they didn’t. Um, goalending was fantastic over the weekend. Uh, a couple stars led the way um in terms of offensive output as we’ve said. Three stars of tonight’s game. First star Danny Zilkin. Yet again, back-to-back Knights gets first star because he was just all over the ice and doing everything to create opportunities. Second star of the game is going to go to Alex Worththington. Alex Worththington uh the the gold center of playing the man the moose go the regular Moose goender had a fantastic showing in his one singular game. And third star with the overtime winner is Fabian Wagner. Happy to see it. Honorable mention will go to Ben Zelotti and Nikita Chimberov who also had goals uh tonight. And yeah, now we wait a week because then in a week the Winnipeg Jets officially have their preseason um preseason games and unfortunately they don’t have any PTOs. I would have loved to cover that if they did. I’m still waiting on one, count it, one singular contract to get signed and it’s Ryan Chazowski, but I think it’s going to be with the Rapid City Rush. I’m just waiting for it. Um, so when that transaction happens, you will hear from me. Um, and then you’ll hear from me on all your preseason games, all of your regular season games, and all of your Jets playoff season games. So yes, please subscribe, leave a like on the video. Thanks so much for watching, guys. It’s wonderful to be back. Uh, comment down below your thoughts on this video and yeah, we’ll see you next time. Go Jets go. Back again. Far side quick shot deflected in front. They score. Cole Perfetti with a deflection. 1.6 seconds left in the third period. The Jackson tie it up at three. Holy smokes.

The Winnipeg Jets prospects sweep the weekend with a 3-2 overtime win over the Ottawa Senators. Danny Zhilkin completed his reign of terror with another two point night. Ben Zloty and Fabian Wagner also had goals

  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the first successful outcome of a prospects tournament since the return of the Jets. Good sign for the young prospects.
The sound quality is much improved. 👍
