Which Bulls Player Benefits MOST From Josh Giddey?

All right, the Bulls and Josh Giddy have come to terms on a new contract. Four years, $100 million. He is here to stay in Chicago. Kudos to Giddy. Congrats on the bag. Gentlemen, one of the big questions I think everybody is thinking about is, okay, Giddy is here, got the deal done after a long wait. How does this impact the team in the 2526 season and beyond? And aside from Josh Giddy himself, who stands to benefit the most from Josh Giddy’s presence on the floor and particularly with the other four presumptive starters, his Bulls teammates. Big Dave, what do you think? Well, I I have there are two answers to this. There’s who I think it will be and who I think it should be. Okay. Um who I think Who do you Which one you want first? Uh, give me your who you think it will be and then who you think it should be. I think it will be Kevin Herder. Red Rifle cuz Velvet. But yes, whatever. Shout out Andy. It still matters. It matters. I I think it’ll be him one cuz I think he’ll be the starter. We We’ve had discussions about him and Isaac. He’s starting over, but I I think he’ll be starting to start the season o Isaacuro. We’ll see how it happens. Or like I keep saying, if something changes in training camp, it’ll be that way. But when Kevin Herder got here, you could see it was a difference obviously from the style of offense that they run. Who’s the head of that style of offense that they run is Josh Giddy. And if you go look at the numbers, which I did, as far as Kevin Herder being a starter along with Josh Giddy, he was averaging 15.3 points, three rebounds, four assists with seven three-point attempts a game where he was shooting 41% from the three. Oh, and 50% from the field as well with a true shooting percentage of 63% and his plus minus was eight. It’s a plus minus eight. He’s a plus eight. So, he has a successful time as a starter in that second half of the year along with one Josh Giddy. When you’ve got a guard like Josh Giddy who’s a pass first guy, then it makes it simple for guys like Kevin Herder. He’s going to go spread out and he’s going to find a three-point line and he’s going to wait and Josh Giddy’s going to find him and he’s going to score that way. Or he’s going to know when to cut to the basket because Kevin Herder does have a solid IQ. So, he’s going to know when to cut to the basket and Giddy’s going to find him. And there goes an easy layin for him as well. I think that is really truly going to benefit his game so much as a starter. Who it should be is Modus Buzzelis. That’s the answer. Who it should be? Modest should be better under Josh Giddy. And that’s who I want to be better because those two need to work if the Bulls are going to have any true success sustained for this future. It’s going to have to be him and it’s going to have to be Modest. So, I want it to be those, but I do think it will be Kevin Herder. Shout out for bringing those stats on Herder. Oh, yeah. Shout out to Herder for those stats. Yeah, he he did his thing. He did his thing. All right, goat. Which Bull starter benefits the most from Josh Giddy still being here. Yeah, I think it’s Modest and I think you’re absolutely right to say it has to be like Modis obviously showed some really exciting flashes down the end of last season. Uh, but the game is still moving a little bit fast for him. He’s still pretty skinny uh and not really able to like create his own shot. We’ve obviously seen a lot of those flashes and he has the tools to improve there. But I think what’s best for Modis is getting easy offense spoonfed to him and that’s what Giddy can do. And so running the break, back cutting, spacing the floor, Giddy should be able to help get him easy shots. Um, and I think honestly the same thing is going to have to be true uh on the other end where Modis is going to have to help Giddy and make him better where he’s cleaning up some of that mess. He’s able to slide over and protect the rim. maybe he’s taking on some of those other forward assignments for Giddy uh so that the two of them can be the best versions of themsel but I think for the most part Giddy’s ability to create easy offense is actually going to really help develop Modest and I think that’s true for guys like Noah Asen and Dale and Julian Phillips as well I think obviously I’m with you guys in that I want the answer to be modest butelis because uh no disrespect to Josh Gaty or Kobe White most of My remaining hope as a Bulls fan right now hangs on Modest turning into a stud in this league. Yeah. And if he has the help of a creative pass first guard playing with him in his starting five, that’s good. My sarcastic but also like just accurate answer because the question again that Big Dave posed earlier to us today, that’s me. Which Bulls starter benefits the most from Josh Giddy? The answer is Josh Giddy. Josh Giddy wasn’t getting 25 million a year on a four-year contract anywhere else in the league this summer. True. Josh Giddy wasn’t getting this large of a role on any of the other 29 NBA teams if he changed teams this summer. Also fact, Bull said, “Here’s some money, Josh. Here’s the ball, Josh. Who benefits the most from Josh Giddy still being here? Josh Giddy.” Yeah, that’s the answer. I I hear that. And And I don’t I don’t think that’s wrong either. I mean, the numbers back you up from what he did on the floor and to his contract. Those numbers back you up as well. But and and I and I I’m glad we’re all in agreement on Modest, though. Like, it has got to be Modest was zealous, man. Like, we want the growth from him in year two, but the Bulls have made the decision that it’s Josh Giddy and his future. They’re going to be tied together. So, if they’re going to be tied together, it’s got to work together more so than it has to work with a guy like Kevin Herder who’s on the, you know, last year of his contract. you know, he might take a new deal, but it’s got to work. It’s got to work with Modest. But I think Matt brings up a really interesting point, which is that like Giddy really didn’t start playing well until he was the one with the ball in his hands. And I think in some ways this contract allows him to be that player. Like he is going to be that guy from day one. There is no Zack Lavine in the rotation. He’s going to be the one that has the ball in his hands. And so by signing that deal, he cements himself as the primary creator, which is the role that he felt most comfortable with. And so that’s why he was able to uh succeed at such a high level during those final 25 games. So for me, I think Giddy has the opportunity to like continue to take steps forward. Um that was that was always going to be a challenge when he was alongside other great players. I think that’s potentially a knock on him uh as far as his ability to adapt and play with other great players. But for now, he’s the main guy. He’s the highest paid player on the team. He’s the point guard. He’s the one with the ball in his hands. He really benefits from this situation. I think as much as the Bulls are hoping to benefit from having him back, we’ll see. The other couple of names that we hadn’t mentioned yet, Kobe White, Nicola Vuvich, um his backcourt mate, and the WY Vet starting center. I think I am more curious like Vu is going to be Vu. I think regardless like that piece is just that piece. Um, I’m curious about Kobe and Josh part two because Kobe and Josh found some solid chemistry in that stretch of games after Zack Lavine was traded away and the offense kind of shift focus to those two. I am, you know, especially now with Kobe being the one playing on a contract year. Mhm. How does that change things if at all coming into another year of them trying to figure out their encore chemistry and being the two key guys on this team? That is a great question. Um because it could go with Kobe wanting more of the basketball. Yeah. In that fourth quarter. Not to say that he doesn’t cook because he cooks in that fourth quarter. But now, you know, he does he knows the amount of supplies he could have when he’s in that kitchen. You know what I mean? If he cooks it right, he knows he can get more supplies in that kitchen. So, will Josh Giddy be looking for that? Will they have that kind of chemistry so he can get his thing and get it going? Will he be trying to force things, you know, a little too much more? We’ve seen Kobe be that guy who has forced the basketball, you know, early on in his career. He definitely was the guy who was forcing things a lot, but he got so much better at just letting the game come to him. So, you’re right. Everything was roses in that second half, you know, of the season until you saw Miami, but everything was roses up until that point. Will that continue on in this day one of this new year for the starters, man? Because Giddy has got to affect every single thing that’s going on on the floor more so than he does Vu. Vu can, you know, be his own entity and create, you know, kind of for himself. But guys like Modis, Herder, even Kobe and even get it himself have got to have the basketball to be doing what they do. Give Modis the rock and go stand in the corner, Josh. I’m just kidding. I’m just kidding.

The CHGO Bulls crew continues to break down Josh Giddey’s new four-year contract with the Chicago Bulls. Which player, specifically starters, will benefit most from Giddey staying in Chicago long-term? Is it Matas Buzelis, Giddey’s alley-oop partner? Or Kevin Huerter, who will be on the receiving end of his drive and kicks? Maybe it’s his backcourt teammate Coby White? Matt Peck, Big Dave, and Will Gottlieb discuss.
