[McCalvy article] It’s “certainly a consideration” to use Jacob Misiorowski out of the bullpen next time, Pat Murphy said, ahead of the postseason. “It’s obvious that that right now he’s not on track as a starter, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be. He certainly will be in the future.”

  1. >Misiorowski fell to 1-2 with 5.45 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP in nine starts since the All-Star break, after he was 4-1 with a 2.81 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP in five starts before the break. He has recorded an out beyond the fifth in one second-half start

I am happy we let him pitch and got this sorted now, but it does decrease our flexibility.

  2. I hope the unspoken part of that is “in low-leverage situations”. Walking the bases loaded is more likely outcome for Miz inning than striking out the side right now. Need all the arms you can get in the playoffs, but he’s too wild right now.

  3. I really like the thought of Miz as an opener and then Quintana comes in as the long reliever. A flamethrowing right hander for 2-3 innings, then totally change it up with a lefty contact pitcher.

  4. Will be weird looking at his reference page in future and seeing All-star lol

Could be deadly out of pen for a postseason run. If he can become a Mason Miller he could be a real weapon.

  5. fully expect Miz to be a meaningful part of the rotation in the future, he just needs time to develop and gain a deeper understanding of his pitching abilities. I think he needs to do a lot of maturing before we can count on him in the post-season. he gets flustered so easily and while I love the fire that he brings, when things don’t go his way he really lets it get to him

  6. How many more times does he start this season? 2x? Maybe he improves he can start in the postseason. No better way to get better than tear yourself.
