All time lowest batting champion was Carl Yaz in 1968 at .301. Could be a record this year.
Eight games to go… Trea Turner will probably keep his average above .300. If anybody can do it, he can. But still, I miss seeing those .330 hitters.
Looking overall, MLB batgting average overall this year is .246, which is consistent with the other seasons since 2020. Just feels like the elite batting average hitters aren't there anymore.

Turner might not play again until the postseason so that’s almost a lock
Isn’t Trea Turner hurt?
I think he wins by default if no one is above .305, he’s gonna easily have the ABs to qualify, and I don’t think he’s taking anymore ABs this regular season
Good point. My fault.
They aren’t here anymore because they all sold out for power and OBP, which was decided by experts, to be much more productive outcomes for an AB.
It’s gonna be a bummer when we do see a guy sub .300 win it. Trey won’t hit again this year so he’ll be a lock at .305, but I also miss the days when it took hitting .350+ and the race was between four guys all hitting that well.
Taking this time to heap praise on the training staff (?) for the Blue Jays. I could be severely underestimating the natural talent of Springer, Guerrero, and Bichette. But to have three 300ers in one starting lineup in 2025, jeez. The batting coaches over there are doing something right over there.
It’s an era when every pitcher and their brother is throwing 95+ mph fastballs.
I don’t think Jamie Moyer threw above 85 his whole career.
But those launch angles and bat speed though!
As a few mentioned I am pretty sure that Trea is hurt and will end up winning by default cause of that
It’s about time they moved back the mound. It hasn’t moved since 1893. That’s only six years after batters could request a high or low pitch. Hell, the strike zone has changed about five times since then. It was thankfully lowered a few decades ago, but it’s crazy it hasn’t been pushed back in over 130 years with the changes in the game.
I read it’s possible that Turner comes back for the last couple games but if he’s not 100% his avg could drop below .300. if he doesn’t come back I think he wins with .305.
Also no one is close to 200 hits
You can kiss the higher batting average goodbye. The game has changed. The new approach for hitters is hit it 400 feet or strike out trying.
Trea has been out and may only get a handful of ABs
Yes turner deserves it, but Hoerner is a player that shows up and gives 110% every game. Id take him on any team any day
The problem is the approach leading to lower BA is now institutional. Kids are being taught this way up through the minors.
Even some kind of pitching or other adjustment is made to the game, it’ll be years if not a decade before the curve adjusts.
