🔴LIVE 🔴San Francisco Giants VS Los Angeles Dodgers /September 19/ Mlb Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25
the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the San Francisco Giants taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about ready to go. And today on the hill, Blake Snell. What do we need to know here? Well, this guy’s just been filthy out there on the mound. Hitters, batting under 200 against him, and they’re just having a hard time squaring up anything, doing any type of damage. The only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surreners a rare home run. But outside of that, it’s going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today. And digging in for San Francisco, Elliot Ramos climbed the ladder with that fast. And that’s how we get started here in Los Angeles. First pitch 711. Next offering is fouled back. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Went back to the fast ball and it was effective. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout and it’s fouled away. misses outside and it’s a ball and a strike. It’s always an exciting day at the ballpark when you have a pitcher as good as Blake Snell on the mound. I mean, this lineup is dealing with a 6’4 lefty that does a great job of missing bats and has a variety of pitches that can beat you. clearly hoping he could get a swing and miss on that, but doesn’t fool the hitter with that breaking ball. Nice job. Just couldn’t keep it fair. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. Snell is tall. He can throw heat and he’s the type of pitcher that loves to throw his best stuff as much as possible, which includes a nasty curve ball. No, anytime you can punch out the top two guys in a lineup to start an inning, got to be feeling pretty good out there on the mound because when you think of just having a distraction, table setters on the base paths and all of a sudden you’re dealing with a number three hitter. Any distraction can cause you to serve up a cookie and instead of it being a solo shot, it’s a two or three-run homer. Two down. Nobody on. Fought off foul. Swings and misses. And the count one and two. And they’ll do it again. Two outs and that’s downstairs. Two and two. Swing and a high-fly ball down the right field line. Hernandez tracks it down for the out and the Dodgers are coming up to hit. No score. back after this on the show. Back here at Chavez Ravine and on the hill today, Justin Verlander. And as usual with him singing, I think we can expect plenty of strikeouts. Yeah, Boog. He’s racked up over 3,000 strikeouts in his career, so expect to see more of the same in this one. Now it’s the DH, Alex Call. call in his second season, 30 years old now. He’s usually in right field, but today he’s getting the DH treatment. And that one is inside. Well, a nice day off for him. Not having to jog out to the outfield. Gets to be in the DH spot. Be curious to see how he keeps himself in a rhythm, not playing defense. [Music] Swinging a miss at a slider. Wow. No fair right there. I mean that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just kind of have to tip your cap on that pitch and a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. And there’s one down. Just a mid90s challenge fast ball right there. Not much to it. And I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location. And those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say, “How’d I miss that?” But you know, it happens. Now it’s Mookie Betts. The shorts stop takes a ball. Betts is definitely one of those guys that excels at everything he does. Boo, in terms of baseball, he can do it all. He’s won World Series, batting titles, gold gloves, and everything else you can think of. That’s a strike. And the count one and one. [Music] The one-1 is fouled off. [Music] One down. Base is empty. Battling here as he fouls it away. Pop dump. [Music] makes the catch. Two away. Time now for Dave Roberts lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers. They’ve had a great year offensively, as good an offensive team as you will find. They’re deep first and foremost, but the way that they can manipulate their personnel for matchups and everything else, it’s uh very intelligent the way that they use their team. And I I think it creates a little bit of a uncertainty for opposing teams, especially in a big game, big series. Tioscar Hernandez in the box now. No balls in a strike. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. Gone. Teascar Hernandez hits one out. And they jump out front. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. [Applause] Just an excellent swing all the way around. And it had that sound coming off the bat that gets everyone’s attention. Got a pitch to drive short to the baseball. squared it up and the backspin carried it out of here. Freddy Freeman in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Fast ball for a strike. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. And Carnosion makes the grab and that’ll do it. So the Dodgers strike first on the Solo Jack. It’s now one- nothing. You’re dialed into the show. Back here at Dodger Stadium. Second inning, set to go. Now it’s Matt Chapman. Snell back to work and that’s in for a strike. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Just missed. James Kingsley, our played umpire, consistent and maybe a little generous on the edges. Yeah, Boo. He’ll give a little bit on the edges like you said, but from what I’ve seen, he usually does that when a pitcher is just commanding those parts of the strike zone and essentially they now this one is hammered way back there on its way and gone and we are tied. He made him pay for that one. His 22nd homer of the year and we’re level. It’s 1-1. This game is breathing new life thanks to that home run. And that’s exactly what they needed. That’s exactly the pitch he was looking for. Crushes it and hits it out of the ballpark. Next to hit, Bryce Eldridge trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues. Just missed. two balls, no strikes to count. Snell maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, guys, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. Foul ball there. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? Well, partner, every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show. Uh so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. He tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Harrar and Carnosion the next giant to hit a bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. [Applause] Swanging and a miss. There’s that change up. [Applause] Swing and a high-fly ball right field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s one away. Batting seventh catcher Patrick Bailey. And up next for San Francisco, Patrick Bailey. Chris, it’s been a good year for him, having already set a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. That’s off the inside corner. One and0 man at first, one away. That one hit to right. Hernandez ranging after it. Puts it away for the out. And now the rookie second baseman Christian CS Christian [Applause] pitch is in there. It’s 0 and one. sliced hard but foul. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. They take the force out that ends the frame. The Giants are able to tie things up thanks to the solo home run. All even now at 1-1. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in LA, we head to the bottom of the second. Digging in is the switch in outfielder Tommy Edmond. Edmond. First pitch just misses. And a foul ball. late on that fast ball. A one-two cow. And all he’s seen is fast balls. You’ve got to expect something off speed. Stay back. That one just misses. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Hard ground ball. Base nine. So, a man on base to start the inning. I know that was a ground ball, but it was absolutely hammered through the infield. That’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder. You know, they used to say charge it. Crazy. Miguel Rojas at the plate. Come on, Miguel. Let’s hit it. And a curve drops in for a strike. Tied up here in the early going. That one fouled off. And that one misses up and in. And it’s one and two. Well, he missed badly with that O2 fast ball. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. That one ripped left field back there. It’s gone over the left field wall and the Dodgers have the lead. It’s 3-1. He just sent this stadium into a frenzy. They’re going nuts. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. [Music] And up next for Los Angeles, Andy Pahes. [Applause] This one smoked on its way out of here. They do it again. Backto back homers and they tack on to their lead. It’s 4-1. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. [Applause] Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now, Boo. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow. Here’s Kik Hernandez off the mark there. And that’s ball one. Hernandez, versatile player, can play all over the infield and the outfield. No question about this one. It’s out of here. That one felt good. His second homer of this series. And they add a run. It’s 51. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Backto backto back home runs. And these guys look so dominant right now. Pitcher might want to check and see if he’s tipping his pitches or not. But I tell you what, if this was basketball, that opposing team would call a timeout to try to slow down this offense. Ben Wartvet steps to the plate for the Dodgers at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Well, they’ve been able to score four runs off of him in this inning. And this is where you want to just max out. Get as much as you can. Give him one of those tough innings where it’s going to be hard for him to recover in the next one. Swinging a miss. 0 and two. Yeah, I don’t think anyone’s got good numbers swinging at pitches in that location. Breaking ball in there. Got him looking. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. Well, definitely a borderline pitch right there. And he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout. You know, those are tough ones to let go as a hitter, but with a human umpire calling balls and strikes, it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes. Call batting with one down takes the strike. Four runs already in the frame. Bottom half of inning number two. Next offering in there for a strike. That’s strike two. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Misses inside and the count is one and two. [Applause] Strike three and that’s two in a row. Oh, that slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and got him to chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. Betts in now. Takes ball one off the plate in the air right field. Ramos makes the grab on the run, but they go deep three times in the inning and score four. We play two full. It’s the Dodgers five and the Giants one. And welcome back to the ballpark. Onto the third inning and digging in for San Francisco, Drew Gilbert [Music] in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Yeah, that’s fouled off. The wine of the pitch and down on strikes he goes. That K is his third of the game. Here’s Elliot Ramos. Went down on strikes his first time through. That one outside. Ball one. Ground ball left side and that’s just fouled. Center field. Edmond going after it. hauls it in for the out and there’s two away. Two down, base is empty. Raphael Devers the next Giant to hit. Struck out swinging his first time. And that one almost hit him. fouls one off out of play. Back to our left. Two out. Space is empty. And Devers hits that one. Drops in for a hit. Couldn’t run it down safely into second. He’s got a double. got a fast ball middle of the plate, jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. Could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game. Willie Adam stands in, flyed to right, his first time. A change up missing. And that’s ball one. All right, Los Angeles to third. Hernandez over to first in time and they get a Damas for the out and that is the inning. One left for San Francisco. They’re down here 5 to one. Bottom of the inning and at the plate for the Dodgers, Tay Oscar Hernandez. Well, he’s back out here for the third. And after the first couple of innings, pretty rough. I think the skippers looking for him to give him a little bit of length. See if he can save the bullpen some. And that gets the inside corner for a strike. I think this is an important inning on the mound for him in this game. He’s got to find a way to settle things down and give some length in this start. Next offering is fouled back. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. He dives but he can’t make the catch into second easily with a leadoff double. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the atbat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. Great hands on that swing to take the inside pitch and drive it into the gap for the double. It’s easy to spin off a pitch like that, Boo. And you can pull that thing foul, but that was perfect. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Freeman getting ready to hit that one. Finds the zone and that is strike one. Very humble guy and you know on the field, off the field and he goes about his at bats in that way. Boog. He’s, you know, just trying to stay with the plan. And that plan is hit the ball to left center field, drive the ball that way, let it travel. Yep. Signs of movement in the Giants bullpen. Number 77 getting ready to come in for Bob Melvin. Beck getting loose as well. Hernandez stands at second with no outs. Way out front for strike two. Filthy change up right there. just pulled the string. Swag and a miss. Struck him out. Not what you’re looking for after the lead off double. A strike out. And there’s one away. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. One out and a runner at second. Next offering is in for a strike. One ball, two strikes. And a foul ball. He stays alive. That one misses. Now two and two. One out and a runner at second. You’re in the last half of the third. Way high with that one. And the count’s full. in the air. Center field. Gilbert drifts towards it. He’s got it. And there’s two away. So, a man aboard, Miguel Rojos steps to the plate for the Dodgers. He’s already homered here in this one. Line to left and Carnasion makes the grab and that will end the inning. One left for LA. They lead this one though 5-1. Out of the fourth, Chappie steps to the dish to take his cuts. Chapman. Chapman in his eighth season, 31 years old. He joined the team as a free agent and he grounds one to the right side. Rojos with the throw to first and one gone in the fourth as they get the leadoff man. Now batting the first base, Bryce Eldridge. Bryce Eldridge, the next Giant to hit, looking for his first big league hit right here. [Music] And first offering is fouled off. One down, base is empty and delivers outside. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Rodet hauls it in. Two away. Now batting left fielder Gerard and Carnosion. Two outs. Space is empty. Stepping in Harrar and Carnosion. He’s 0 for one. First pitch misses. [Music] Foul ball. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. Swings through that one. [Music] Next offering is down low. Now this is in the air down the line. Hernandez on his way over. And that is that. Bottom of the fourth. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Andy Pahes. That one drifts inside. You know, these Dodgers doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. Not only have they already put up a And he can’t come up with it. Now batting third base. Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Verlander done in this one. And this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. So, the Giants with a new pitcher on the hill, number 77. Well, they didn’t get much length out of their starter in this one, so they’ve got a lot of outs to eat up in that bullpen. I think they’ll look for some length out of him right here if they can get it. man at first, nobody out. And Kik Hernandez at the plate. He’s already homered in this game. And a first pitch fast is in for a strike. Like I said, his pitch count is high. So, I got to expect they’ll be turning to their bullpin sooner than they had hoped. He swings and fouls one off. Pah aboard here at first with nobody out one in the dirt. Here’s a one two outside. That one down the line and it goes just foul now. A pop up on the infield. Chapman. One down. Now batting catcher Ben Rot. And now the catcher comes up to him. Ben RV. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Next offering is fouled back. Pitch misses. Going to count one and two. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. You don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. Fouls it back with two strikes. Flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the at bat alive. And it remains two and two. upstairs. Base hit center field. PZ on his way to third and the throws offline. safe at third. [Applause] Now batting next is the designated hitter, Alex Call, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Nope. This is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended. What you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands. That’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants. On the ground is short. Could be two. Adamus to second and that’s two. So, it’s no runs on two hits, no errors, and a runner left. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Dodgers five, and the Giants one. We go to the top of the fifth. Now, it’s the Giants catcher, Patrick Bailey. Snell back to work. Swing and a miss. Go and one. All these Giants being a little too patient at the plate in this game. They found themselves behind in the count quite a bit. They’re trying to be patient, but it’s mostly resulting in outs, not base runners. And you could argue it’s making things more difficult at the plate. Up the middle. He gets there with the slide. Gathers and throws. And that’s a great play for the out. Just so impressed with the movement on that play. Footwork was excellent. The arm strength was there. And of course, the most important part was getting the out. Christian CS now at the plate. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Pop up here. Third base side. Hernandez has it sized up and he makes the catch. Two down. Now batting the center fielder Drew Gilbert. Now at the plate, Drew Gilbert. Struck out looking in his first at bat. He’s controlling things out there on the mound. Not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. [Music] Right side hard hit. Gets it to first. Giants goal in order. Nothing doing there for San Francisco. They’re down 5-1. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Here’s Muki now. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. Well struck left field and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. Safe at second with a leadoff double. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Nice line drive to the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Here’s Tay Oscar Hernandez. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Bailey pulls that one down. One away. Boy, that was a hanging right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Here’s Freddy Freeman for two in this one. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch you’ll see in this at bat to hit. No balls, two strikes. Got him swinging. Come on now. Now batting. Here’s a switch hitter Tommy Edmond. One for two. Edmond. Swing a miss. And it’s 0 and one. Benny really sells the change up with that arm action. Dodgers. That’s in there and it’s 0 and two. fouled off and they’ll do it again. [Applause] That misses and that is ball one. Bets at second with two down. cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning. So no runs here on a base hit, no errors and one left. We’re through five. It’s the Dodgers five and the Giants won. Back here at Chavez Ravine, start of the six, John Shami with Chris Singleton and leading off Elliot Ramos. And that is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So, that’s a good take by him. Way inside. Gets out of the way. Check swing. Tried to hold up. Now an appeal to first. Nope. He held back. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Rovet makes the grab. One away. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Now it’s Devers at the plate. Yeah, and here’s a fun stat on Divers. He’s at his best when he’s hitting homers and doubles. And by the time he was 26 years old, Devers already had over 150 home runs and more than 200 doubles. He’s just the 15th player in baseball history with those kinds of numbers at that age. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Next offering is fouled back. One out. Base is empty. Come on. Ripped into left center. Base hit. And now the shorts stop. Willie Adamus. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Now this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. to try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you can find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Gets the outside corner with that one. And a foul ball. The Dodgers leading by four and we’re in the top half of the sixth. Swing and a miss. Got him to go up the ladder for the K. Now batting. And here is Matt Chapman. It’s interesting. He plays kind of a a power spot defensively, but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. What about him playing another position would require a little more range. Absolutely. And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during Well, got to pause on that thought as that’ll do it for the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. 678 do in the bottom of the sixth. It’s the Dodgers five and the Giants won. Bottom of the sixth inning. Here’s the second base. Miguel Rojas. First pitch and he just misses. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Number 63 getting ready to come in for Bob Melvin. Gage a left-hander also throwing [Music] the 10. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. But here it comes. Right through there for a strike. Two balls, one strike. That’s way outside. Three and one. Fouled off left side. That’s a base hit. Had a good start to the inning. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. Now the left fielder, Andy Pahes. He launched the solo shot back in the second inning of this one. Yeah, that was big for these guys early on. Definitely helped them get off onto the right foot. Line drive and that should be extra bases. Lead runner touches second headed for third. Throw comes in. Runner stopped. Second and third, nobody out. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Here’s Kik Hernandez. And that one upstairs. Ball one. That pitch in for a strike and the count even at one. swing and a miss as he was out front that time and that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out now. And next for LA, Ben Wart. You have to find a way to score the runner from third, especially with less than two outs. Wait for the pitch you want and hit it as hard as you can. swings through that one for strike one. Just threw that fast ball by him, elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. And now it’s even up. Just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike, 02 count. Instead, it’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. The one-1 is fouled off. The Dodgers threatening [Music] to the right side. CS slings to first now. Two away as they get a run across. Back to the top of the Dodgers order. Alex Call steps to the plate for the Dodgers. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. in the air left field and Carnosion under it makes the grab and that’s the inning. A run on two hits and they leave one. We’re through six full. It’s the Dodgers six and the Giants one. Back here at Dodger Stadium. And now the first baseman, Bryce Eldridge. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat. Getting that first hit at the big league level. First offering misses badly for ball one. [Music] [Music] Check swing called strike. Off the mark there and the count is three and one. That one misses. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Here comes the skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Blake Snell is done and a nice effort out of him. No doubt. New arm coming on. We’ll be back for that in a moment. Kirby Yates takes over on the mound. Should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats. So far this season, they’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. Man at first, Harrar and Kronosion, the next giant to hit. Now let’s Yates in his 11th season, 37 years young, and he’s one of the few players in Major League Baseball born in Hawaii. Well, the laidoff man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. And one swing and a fly ball well struck left field. And there’s one down. Oh yeah. Now batting catcher Patrick Bailey. Here’s the catcher, Patrick Bailey. Take it high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point, that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level and he hits a ground ball right side over to second for one. On to Freeman. Double play. Inning over. starting to run out of outs as they’re unable to chip away. Midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. It’s the Dodgers six and the Giants one. Pitching change here number 63. Well, they need someone to stop the bleed and keep this score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging. Mookie digs in here. One for three. Mookie bets. The shorts stop takes a ball. [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play. And now two balls in a strike. That one ripped. [Applause] And it hits the fence around first and hustling for second. And he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Drove that ball nicely, put a great swing on it, and it jumped off his bat. Kind of put it all together there. And he’s rewarded with the double. Runner in scoring position. No outs. And now Teascar Hernandez. [Applause] And that’s through there for a strike. Go and one. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here in the bottom of the seventh. And that two seam fast ball is usually coupled with a slider away. And when a hitter’s conscious of the pitch in, it’s hard for him to cover middle away. And that’s where a pitcher can really finish off that batter. Next offering is outside. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. Let’s go Dodgers. Man at second. Hard hit left side. Zips it across and one away in the bottom of the seventh. Now betting first baseman Freddy. Here comes Freddy Freeman up to hit. Struck out on just three pitches last time. And another ball. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. Stop sign goes up at third. Runners at the corners with one out. And here comes Tommy Edmond. Swing and a miss. That one at 99 and one. Two on, one out. line drive and that’s a base hit out into center field. Bet scores. It’s an RBI single. It’s 71. He’s in there. Picks himself up an RBI. I could watch base hits like that one all day long. And so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. Miguel Rojas the next to hit. We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap. He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots. Late swing fouled off. All right. And that one fouled off. [Music] Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. Freeman on third. Edmund over at second with one down. Swing and a miss. And he’s down on strikes. Two gone. Andy Pah steps to the plate for the Dodgers. And it may be a long shot, but a triple here will give him the cycle. Check. Swing called strike. That’s strike one. Two outs, two in scoring position. There’s the strike up high and it’s nothing in two. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. They get a run on three hits, no errors, and two men left on. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Dodgers seven and the Giants one. This game’s a bit of a blowout. Singy, let’s talk about something random. Let’s do it. All right, Singy. When you played, how much of a fashionista were you? Would you come to the ballpark dressed to the nines? No, I wouldn’t. Even on the road trips, I was, you know, pretty average. There were some guys that would dial it up and there’d be some outfits where you’re kind of double taking and saying, “Where in the world are you going?” But overall, I’d say I kept it low-key. Ripped on the ground to second. Throw on to Freeman. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. Now batting the center fielder, Drew Gilbert. And now Drew Gilbert. Let’s go. Swing and a miss. Strike one. [Music] Fast ball is outside. [Music] And that one popped in the air. Left field. Pah settles underneath it. Puts it away for the out. Now batting right fielder Elliot Ramos. Two down. Base is empty. Elliot Ramos the next Giant to hit. 0 for three in this one. Come on. And there’s the strike. Swinging a miss as he was late. This guy’s pounding the zone. Hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Giants down in order. They’re down 7 to one. And we’re back onto the bottom of the eighth. Here’s the third baseman, Enrique Hernandez. Hernandez. That one in there across the letters. That’s a base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. All right, let’s go. Now the catcher up to hit. Ben Wart, known for his rocket arm behind the plate, delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Come on, Los Angeles. Liner base hit. [Applause] Rudder stops at second and the first two reach to start the inning. Now betting back to the top of the order. Alex Call will hit next. And that is out of play. [Music] This one kicks away a little as he can’t squeeze it. First and second here. No outs. [Music] Nope. That’s the ball. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Two-1 now. [Music] Slider misses outside. [Applause] Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a miss. and he is down out strikes for the third straight at bat. Oh, tough night at the dish. Punching out for the third time right there. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable at the plate. A little unsure of his timing right now. Not picking up the spin and location of these pitches. He’ll have some adjustments to make. And Muki takes. Runners at first and second with one gone near the bottom half of the eighth inning. fought off foul outside now. Two balls in a strike. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Two on, one out. Line drive and that’s a fair ball. Hernandez around third. He’ll score easily to third. Not in time. And it’s runners at the corners with one gone. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Number 63 done for the night and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Righty reliever out of the pen. Kaiwe 10. And with the big deficit on the scoreboard, he almost has to just put that out of his mind. Every outing matters for relievers and their numbers. But I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game. Teascar Hernandez digs in now. That is upstairs for ball one. [Music] That one missing inside. Rortet the runner at third. Betts over at first with one away. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Ing comes a runner from third and it’s an RBI single and it’s an eightun lead. So first and second with one man gone. Freddy Freeman up to the dish. Just missed. One out. Runners at first and second. Next offering upstairs. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Trevor McDonald getting ready to come in for Bob Melvin. Gage getting cranked up as well. [Applause] the 2-1 and there’s a ball and a popup. up right side. Foul territory. Two down. Oh, that’s what he’s looking for with the fast ball above the zone. A swing and miss or weak contact. Center fielder Tommy. So, first and second with two outs. Tommy Edmond getting ready to hit. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. First pitch swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] And that’s downed away. Swinging at a high-fly ball to left and Carnosion settles underneath it and makes the grab. That is the inning. So, it’s two runs on four hits, no errors, and a couple left on. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Dodgers nine and one. And welcome back to ballpark. All set to start the ninth. And Raphael de Yates back to work. Swings through that one out in front that time. The Dodgers bullpen with some action. Number 70 looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Number 86 warming up as well. [Music] [Applause] and one and two. O2 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. Swings and misses and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone, we’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Adamus stands in now and watches strike one. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. Explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. late with the swing there. He was really trying to stay back for something off speed. That’s why he was so tardy on that swing. Fights it off. He’ll see another. The Giants with a lot of ground to make up here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. Twins and misses. It’s a strikeout and they’re down to their last out. Oh, really expanded the zone right there with that fast ball off the outside corner of the plate. Got him to chase it. That’s a tough one to lay off of because it starts close to you and just continues to run away from you in that batter’s box. So, it’s a really nice pitch with two strikes. Chapman in the box now. No balls in a strike. one. Chapman gets a piece there. [Music] This could end it. Come on. Put them away. That misses the zone. One and two to count. And a slider misses down and away. And a swing and a miss. And that is the ball game. Clearly the bats came to play today. And the pitching and defense as well. We saw some outstanding plays. Great performances all the way around. Just one run allowed. They never gave the other side a chance. 91 is how it ends. Dave Roberts and company celebrate in the dugout for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
