Cubs vs. Reds Game Highlights (9/20/25) | MLB Highlights

Time ticking on the Reds, the Mets have won four of five after dropping eight in a row. They enter today with 11 straight home wins against their divisional foe in the Nets. We certainly need some help in order to get in, but I really truly believe that these last two games is indicative of what can happen for this team if the Reds are able to sneak into this postseason, that brilliance of hunter Green a couple of nights ago and Then yesterday’s power with five home runs on the mound for the Reds tonight. Zack and last time out he did not factor in the win in Saint Louis, but you go back and you think about the success that he’s had against these Cubs in that first game he pitched in Chicago. He was outstanding and excellent upstairs check. Swing goes too far. Strike three. Now, Nikko Horner comes to the plate to short and beyond the awkward time dive of de La Cruz , a Horner base hit 2 to 2 frozen looking on the heater strike three really nice job of pitching up and in and Then that heater a little bit of run down and away and Valos takes just a little low on the outside corner for ball four. Now, Dansby Swanson swinging a ball sharply hit on one hop to Elliott short, he gloves it in the hole fees to the play at second, forcing out by Asters and the inning is over. Cups come up empty in Strand two in the first. We go to the bottom of the first inning Reds coming up, they face. Javier Assad makes only his sixth start. His seventh appearance of the year. He missed the first four months with an oblique string, not a high velocity guy. Another guy that relies on location popped up. Swanson makes the catch and there’s one away and he didn’t make his debut at the major league level until August 12th at Toronto. Kind of stinks to first and Bush will take it himself and they get steer flying to left but right at the left half, he’ll come in to make the catch side retired. The Reds are out of order against the side in the first. We go to the second innings. No score, Reds and Cubs here. Great American ballpark, Pete Crow Armstrong. He is a home run away from 30 home runs, 30 doubles and 30 stolen bases swinging a mess. PSR down to UN straight, got him with a fastball just off the outside corner right in the top of the zone. So now de La Cruz who snapped a 43 game homer drought. His first launch since the end of July and that’s high. And outside Ellie de La Cruz works a four pitch walk with two outs. He’s the Reds first baserunner of the night. De La Cruz goes first pitch and it’s lost on the transfer head. First slide. 36 for De La Cruz. Stolen base for Ellie is his 36th of the year. Now he’s in scoring position. If the Reds can get a two out hit here from Stevenson Reds would strike first no score in the second. That gets away. Taylor Cruz takes off for third three and oh, on Stevenson and Ellie 90 ft away away, Stevenson walks back to back two out walks. Then at the corners for keep Ryan Hayes. So just tighten up the swing, get a little, get the bat head there a little quicker, weakly rolled to second Horner Reds threat with two outs and a couple of walks, but don’t score and we are all tied at nothing as we head on to the third right hander zack on the mound. Bush has got some pop that is hammered right field and you can forget it out of here. And the Cubs fans delighted that great American ballpark number 30 for Michael Bush and it gives the Cubs a 10 lead. Well, he hung a breaking ball in the heart of the plate and Busch made him pay, but it was the breaking ball that struck out Bush in his first at bat and he did not miss it this time. It was middle end and it was just spinning and it spun right about three quarters of the way up the moon deck in right field. So one nothing cubs. So back to back hits to begin. The third for the Reds 1st and 3rd. Nobody out. And here’s last night’s twin home run killer. That is spencer. Steer chopped to third mclean breaks throw to the plate. He slides safely. Steer reaches to boot, an ill advised play from matt Shaw. He really had no chance to get Matt mclean there. His only play was at first. He threw the ball home. The Reds have tied it at one. Let’s see if he can escape any more damage in the inning. It’s a 1 to 1 game and the batter is Will Benson. Now he’s made some very good pitches, but now he still got one more guy Benson with the power to get one out of here. That’s for sure. William is up. He rips around third and scores to third. The Red Swanson didn’t get a chance to get his feet in a position to try to get in front of it. It was to his backhand and the ball on the last skip stayed down and didn’t come up. I think like Swanson thought it might, the ball was absolutely barreled off the bat of Will Benson and just now they’re going to get an arm up in the bullpen. Looks like aaron Savalli is going to start to warm. That’s has it. The Reds take the lead and he’s hitting the line drives again. 2 to 1 reds in the fifth Maguire. Zero for one line to right, tells 1 to 0, high fly ball in the air, right field to the corner. This has a chance and it’s gone. And Reese mcguire does it again at Great American ballpark 22. And for Reese, it’s home run number nine from the nine with two outs. Last time up, he hit the ball hard to right field. This time he leads the 22 game cubs and Reds drew Pomerantz, the new man on the mound to begin the last of the fifth spencer Steer and RB I on the fielder’s choice, he’s also grounded out. He’s over. That’s good that he is rare and Hoppers continues. He takes the team 21st. It’s three to steer drives to left his third in two games and this one puts the Reds back on top three to two for the last 10 days. Spencer Steer has been some kind of homer happy last of inning. Number seven, the Reds are ahead top of the order here against Sri down the right field line. Hes a laser just inside the pole. Oh my goodness. That was an absolute rope. 4 to 2 rims. That’s breaking out the big sticks in the last couple of games season high five home runs last night. That’s two so far tonight. A good thing that hit netting that would have hurt somebody a chance to get a little something going here in the top of the eighth. Now, the tying run is at the plate. Reese Maguire batting that’s drilled out towards right center field and that one will bounce off the wall. Maguire racing for second. Castro is in and it comes within a run. It’s 43 mcguire just digging his time here in Cincinnati and Tony Santia with runners at 1st and 3rd and 1 out. The Cubs trail it by a run. Got him with a high fastball up and out of the zone over the inside corner and he couldn’t catch up to it a huge second out here in the eighth, grounded weekly to short de La Cruz scoop throw on the run. That’s a big time play from a De La Cruz right there. He had to go a long way to get that ball last of the eighth inning, 43, Cincinnati Marte insurance. That will be Tyler Stevenson coming to the plate. Stevenson drives to right Castro fading. That’s a huge two run home run for Tyler Stevenson and here in the bottom of the eighth inning , the Reds lead is three. Well, that’s the most exciting I’ve seen Tyler Stevenson in a while. He is absolutely beside himself. The home run ball has been the difference Reds with three of them tonight and they’ll turn it over to Emilio Pagan. That’s it. Reds win it 6 to 3 over the Cubs and the Reds are a game out. Tell you what the boys are turning it on at the right time. The Reds are rolling eight home runs in two days.

  1. Both Ohio teams are hot unfortunately for us in Michigan. We don’t want the guardians to win out, but I kind of think they will. Because let’s be honest the tigers flat out suck and they don’t deserve to win the division.

  2. Really liked the way Tito switched out Lux for Andujar when Pomeranz came into pitch for the Cubs… that was a very smooth move… Sometimes he reacts late but that move happened right on time, that’s usually the move other teams do to the Reds, good to see the Reds do it to the other teams first.

  3. Cub fans are amongst the most obnoxious and degenerate fans in all of professional sports. They are an embarrassment to the game and humanity itself.
