My Game Day: The Clubbies | Arizona Diamondbacks

[Music] Um, my name is Lup Yuri and I’ve been here for 30 years with the Diamondbacks. We’re clubhouse assistants and so we’re in charge of uh passing out the gear, collecting it, uh, inventorying it, washing it, drying it, cleaning it, putting it back in their lockers. Um, and so all of us have our own little particular areas, but all of us contribute on a daily basis, whether, you know, Chiff’s passing out laundry in the morning, Jimmy and I are folding towels and getting ready for that. Sean’s getting ready for BP, getting all the balls together, getting everything and putting it in the wet room so that the bat boys can come in and grab that. So, all of us have our little particular things of what we do and and it’s uh that’s how it’s run. It’s every day. Y 162 That’s the pressure washer. Best thing we ever came we ever figured out that getting that stuff out. The dirt gets a little more harder to deal with every year. And uh I don’t know why. It just changes that. So also if they slide a little later in the game that feels a little drier sometimes it’s not doesn’t get embedded as bad. But you know if we do what we can sometimes you can get them all out. Sometimes it’s time for a new pair of pants. All opposition guys slide hard. So especially like a carpy Corbin for all they’re very large on the fans. So they’re good. We like that. Hello Sean Moore here. Arizona Diamondbacks. Been here for 28 years in counting. Thankful to be here. So we’re postgame after the game against the Guardians. Getaway day for the Guardians. Visiting Clubhouse staff is working hard getting the Guardians out of town. getting ready to get the Reds come in on Friday. Uh so we’re doing our postgame routine here as a team getting ready to pass out some laundry and straighten up some lockers. We all pitch in together and try to take care of everybody in here. Players, coaches, support staff, just help one another get it done. So we’re in the home clubhouse here. We’re going to make our way through the training room into the back. I’ll show you where the the brand new baseball bats for our players are kept in the back. leave each player goes between each position player goes between three four dozen bats a year. It’s a lot of bats. Just depends on the player. A lot of bats. Corb and Carol actually breaks a lot of bats behind the scenes where everybody likes to come. It’s like a kid in candy store. They see the bat on their chair and then they come back and start checking all their bats. I want to say Victus and Maruchcci are probably the two most popular right now from what I’ve seen, from what I’ve noticed. I’m usually here for a 6:40 game between 10:30 and 11 usually on most days. Guardians game just finished. We won. Took the series two out of three. After the game, uh the three bat boys and myself, Charlie, Jackson, and and Christian clear up the dugout and the bats and the helmets come down in this room behind our dugout. And this is a pretty special spot. Not a whole Not a whole lot of people get in here. Yep. So, we have three sets. We have the black, we have the red and black. That’s Pommo’s helmet. He likes cake on the pine tar. He likes it just like that. We only travel with the black helmets on the road. Here’s Catel’s helmet. Some guys want it really clean, some guys don’t. And this is where we keep all the catcher gear. These are the bat bags that all the position players travel with. Here’s Corbin’s bats. It’s a lot. There’s there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes that people don’t realize. And myself, I didn’t even realize until I got into baseball how much there is behind the scenes that goes on.

In this episode of My Game Day, Clubhouse Assistants Chad Chiffin, Shawn Moore, and Lupe Uribe take us through what they do in the clubhouse on a game day at Chase Field.

  1. Why can’t Steve Berthiaume pronounce “Phillies” like a normal person? He is such a horrible broadcaster and an embarrassment to the organization!
