BREWERS POSTCAST: Brewers STUN Cardinals in Extra Innings Thriller | Magic Number DROPS to 1
This is the Brewers Post Cast, your instant game reaction for the Milwaukee Brewers, part of the Locked On Network, your team every day. A signature win tonight for our Milwaukee Brewers, helping secure win number 95 tonight in the most brewery fashion. maybe all season long. We’ll talk about it. A 3-2 win over the Cardinals for our Milwaukee Brewers. Their magic number now shrinking to just single one for the NL Central division. The Cubs losing this evening. So, we’ll discuss that. Hello everyone and welcome into the program. Welcome into the Lockdown Brewers postcast. My name is Brandon Snide. You can follow me on X, formerly Twitter, Brandon Snide. And uh again, thank you as always for making Locked on Brewers part of your day each and every day. Quick reminder, we are free and available wherever you guys get audio podcast, Apple, Google, Spotify, Amazon. Wherever you get audio podcast, you can get the Locked On Brewers podcast as well, as well as over on YouTube. Just go to that search bar, type in Locked on Brewers, hit that subscribe button, hit that notification bell, and do me a solid, hit the thumbs up for me as well. Wow, what a performance tonight from our Milwaukee Brewers. Win number 95. Jared Kanan out of the bullpen. Bryce Terrain coming up clutch. We’ll talk about those. That’s the good news. The bad news or at least the unknown news right now, the uncomfortable news is the William Contrarus injury. We’ll discuss exactly what that is. But there is some good news with that, potentially good news. So, we’ll talk about that. And as we mentioned at the beginning of the program, a Cubs loss, a Brewers win. Magic number going from three down to one. The Brewers very likely to clinch the NL Central division. I said it I think it was Thursday that it was it could happen this weekend. It feels like it’s going to happen tomorrow. The Brewers losing uh on Friday 7 to1. But a a bounceback performance tonight out there in St. Louis, knocking off the Cardinals 95th victory of the year. Let’s get into your scoring summary brought to you tonight by Zip Picks, FiveHour Energy, and Prize Picks. And uh Chad Patrick on the mound tonight for our Milwaukee Brewers going up against old friend Miles Michaelis who uh potentially had his last outing at Bush Stadium as a Cardinal. So that was uh an interesting side note side story for tonight’s ball game. Joe Ortiz though getting the party started in the second inning for the Brewers. A single to right field that would score Jake Bowers. and Jake Bowers, who just continues to be such a lift off the bench uh for this Brewers team again with a with a big hit this evening. He was on base. He uh would score in the second inning. Then the Cardinals responding with back-to-back singles in both the fourth and the fifth inning to plate one run a piece. That would give them the two to one lead. And then Andrew Vaughn, who again, we talk about Jake Bowers, I put it on Twitter, Brandon Snide. Jake Bowers and Andrew Vaughn in the month of September have been everything and more that this Brewers team needed. And tonight they were hitting in the seventh and eighth spot. If those two guys are hitting in the seventh and eighth spot in your batting order, both of them hitting over 400 in the month of September. Good things tend to happen for your ball club. And that was no different tonight. Andrew Vaughn one for one this evening with a couple of walks. He would have a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. That would not the game up at two apiece. And then we get into the 10th inning. And there’s two parts to the 10th inning that are tonight’s turning point in a 3 to2 win. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. The 10th inning uh is always extra innings in baseball always interesting, right? You get the ghost runner on second. For the Brewers, it was Jackson Cheerio in the top half of the 10th inning. and Bryce Terrain with two outs bringing Jackson or excuse me, yeah, Bryce Terrain bringing Jackson Churio home on a single up the middle to center field. That would score the go-ahead run, the 3 to2 go ahead uh decisive uh what would be decisive uh hit for Bryce Terrain and the Milwaukee Brewers. But in the bottom half of the 10th inning, probably the more important part of that was Jared Kaning. Now, obviously coming out of the bullpen, and we’ll talk about Jared, and we’ll talk at lengths about Jared, no doubt about it, but the the real turning point for me in this one was the bottom half of the 10th inning. Now, remember, ghost runner on second, Lars Newar for the St. Louis Cardinals. A ground ball fielded by Jared Kaning on the mound. He goes and looks at Newar who’s making his way from second to third. He decides to go to first and get the batter out. That would secure out number one. Andrew Monisterio, who pinched hit for Andrew Vaughn earlier in the game or late, I think it was the eighth inning, then takes it and goes from first to third to get Nupar in a double play for the Brewers. That would give them two outs with nobody on base in the bottom half of the 10th inning. A uh a lazy fly ball to left field would secure the win for the Brewers. An absolutely fantastic bottom. I mean, you couldn’t have drawn up a better tenth inning for the Milwaukee Brewers. And if there has been a a a game where you could describe what this Brewers team is would be tonight, right? Like at times it was frustrating. Two for 12 with runners in scoring position tonight were the Brewers. 10 guys left on base tonight for Milwaukee, but they find a way to get the job done. Chad Patrick only four and one-thirds innings. I thought Chad Patrick was fantastic. I for me, for Chad Patrick, and you guys know, if you remember going back to the show at the beginning of the year when Chad Patrick was a very vital piece to the starting rotation, I thought Chad Patrick, you know, was huge early parts of the season. The Brewers obviously amusing him in different roles tonight. He gets the start. He’s come out of the bullpen as of late. He retired the first nine batters in this ball game, guys. Like Chad Patrick was doing really, really good. Four and one-thirds innings pitched from Chad. two earned runs and again three strikeouts. I thought he was absolutely fantastic. Got in a little bit of trouble in that fifth inning, but then we saw an appearance. Where would this burst team be without Aaron Ashby? Dio Hall before him and they both kind of staggering their time on the IIL, but I mean Aaron Ashby tonight absolutely lights out. He gives up only four hits and two and two/3s. Gives nothing up on on the scoreboard. Same thing for Abner in the eighth inning. You guys know how much I love Abner. Absolutely lights out there. two strikeouts in the eighth inning for Abner Urebe. But that’s going to bring us to our our our player of the game tonight in a 3-2 Milwaukee Brewers win for their 95th of the year. This is the locked on player of the game. Bryce Terrain and Jared Kenny are tonight’s Locked Brewers postcast players of the game. an amusing play yours because what Bryce Terrain did tonight and again he he was due for for a big hit right he was 0 for four prior to that bottom half or excuse me the top half of the 10th inning for him to secure uh you know get that run in secure the three to2 advantage for the Brewers going into the bottom of the tenth was just absolutely huge and and he battled at that at bat at one point was down in the count one two and fought his way back and and battled and got the RBI single in the uh top half of the 10th inning. And for Jared Kenyan, guys, there’s been a lot of people that have had some things to say about Jared Kenyan and how much they don’t like him and don’t want to see him in those big spots. Jared Kenyan in the month of September has been one of the best relievers in all of baseball. He’s been absolutely lights out. Two innings pitched this evening. He pitched the ninth inning and the 10th inning for our Milwaukee Brewers, striking out one, no hits, and shutting him down in the bottom half of the tenth inning with the play of the game. The bottom half of the 10th inning with that grounder to Jared where he goes to first and Monisterio goes to third for the double play. The play of the game, right? If if Kanan goes to first, you know, and and that Lars Nubar gets to third, maybe there’s an opportunity there for the St. Louis Cardinals, which they would have tied it because it was a fly ball out to left field that was surely deep enough. Andre Monoserio making the play from first to third. It’s just it’s how the Brewers have won games. Like this is exactly how they’ve done it for most of the season, right? Kind of a frustrating offensive performance, but they’ve had a lot of hard hit outs tonight, too, guys. A lot of them. Four of the hardest hit balls tonight by the Brewers were outs. Uh four of the five hardest hit balls uh by the Brewers tonight were outs. frustrating certainly, but two for 12 with runners in scoring position, leaving 10 guys on base, but on the flip side, playing really good defense, having those timely hits, right? We talk about the timely hits, Andrew Vaughn coming up with a big sacrifice fly. Obviously, Bryce Train in the 10th inning, then holy cats, your bullpen just absolutely lights out. Aaron Ashby, Abner, Urebe, Jared Kaning. That’s how the Brewers have done this. how they’ve won now 95 where they’re going to eventually break the franchise record for regular season wins. It’s it’s it’s no secret on how and and this is why this team is so scary to me is because there’s so many different ways that they can beat you and tonight was an example of that tonight. A 3 to2 win for our Milwaukee Brewers. A little bit of a scare, but I think we’re going to be okay. But we’ll talk about that coming up after this. The website 5hourgy.com or if you’re like me, you can just go to Amazon. But once again, that website 5hourgy.com. A scary moment in tonight’s uh Brewers game. William Contreras going out uh eventually leaving this game with a wrist injury. Without further ado, let’s dive into the things you’ll be talking about tomorrow after a 3 to2 win. This is what you’ll be talking about. I like you watching this seeing William Contrarus have a check swing off of the bat go off his wrist were a little bit concerned a little bit worried uh where this team and where the trajectory of this team was going to go if that was going to be a serious injury. Now I’m not a doctor. I don’t think there’s an official word yet from the Brewers. I know William Contrarus gave a thumbs up uh you know to people saying that he was good to go. Everything seemed to be okay. I know Matt Pat Murphy’s talking right now. I don’t know if there’s an official diagnosis other than maybe hopefully a bone bruise. So all things he was in the dugout at the end of the game, but he would get a check swing off of his wrist. He would try to continue on. He would eventually leave William Contrarus. That is I think you need to sit William Contrus for the rest of the regular season. I know that’s going to come off probably a little bit crazy. I understand that we’re in the middle of a potential race for the top spot in the National League. I you the National League Central is wrapped up. I understand William Contrus is a huge part. I would rather be if this means I’m sacrificing the two seed to have a healthier William Contrarus. I know he’s going to be really pressing to get out there. But I think now going forward, it’s time to start thinking about resting some of your guys and getting some of these guys healthy. Right. Trevor McIll making a bullpen, another bullpen appearance here hopefully soon, throwing live BP hopefully off the mound shortly, trying to get him back and ramp him up in the right direction. The last thing this Brewers team needs, certainly this offense and what he brings defensively is William Contras trying to rush back, right? He’s already battling with the finger injury. We all know that’s not going to get any better until after the season when he likely has surgery. If this is hopefully not a serious injury, it doesn’t seem like it is. Again, we’re recording the show literally after the last out was made seconds after the last out live here on YouTube. It seems like it’s he’s okay. He given thumbs up. He was right back in the dugout after getting checked out. I’m guessing x-ray. So, I think everything’s going to be okay with William. But, I think if your manager Pat Murphy, you start you got to probably sit down and have that conversation with some of these guys and be like, “Hey, we have bigger goals here. We want to compete in October and we don’t want to have a Yeah, but we had this come up at the end of the season. The division’s over. Divi Division’s over, right? We’re gonna You and I are going to be buying our t-shirts, buying our hats here very shortly, maybe tomorrow, if not next early next week for another division title in Milwaukee. I understand the race with the Phillies and and and that’s ongoing and that’s much closer. But I think if your manager Pat Murphy, it’s time you got to really sit down and think who’s going to who’s who are those guys that I I I should be buying some rest for, right? Like who are those guys out there where they’ve kind of been pushing all season long and and and fighting through things and William Contrus is one of those guys, right? So I think if your manager Pat Murphy, if it’s me, I don’t know about you, I’d be curious to hear your thoughts. Do you start sitting some of these guys? Do you start resting some of these guys? I think you have to start taking a hard look at some of them. I think Aaron Ashby’s another one out of the bullpen and I understand he had a later start to the season, but it feels like he’s thrown a lot. I know the Brewers bullpen you want go all the way back to the middle of August has thrown a lot of innings the most in baseball. And I know last night they they they gave some of those the regular relievers uh some rest being down 7-1 in that game. I think uh I think there’s, you know, I think there are some moments here now where you can get some guys some rest. And we’re getting uh from Butter O on YouTube helping break the news on on the Locked on Brewers postcast that the X-ray is negative. So, it’s no shock he’s already asking to play. It’s no shock that he’s going to try to be out there tomorrow because that’s what Wild who Wild Bill is and that’s why we absolutely love him. But if I’m manager Pat Murphy, I think I’m kind of pumping the brakes a little bit. I’m I’m I’m letting him catch his breath for a little bit. I know he wants to be out there. William Contrus is a dog. He’s he’s amazing. We love him, but we definitely need him uh going forward uh for uh for the postseason. The Brewers win 3-2 over the St. Louis Cardinals 95th victory of the year. Coming up after this break, your thoughts, your reactions, maybe some of your concerns, but certainly some of your celebrations. We’ll talk about it after this. It’s good to be right. three-2 win over the Cardinals. This one in extra innings, the Brewers using some offense in the top half of the 10th inning. And locking things down with their bullpen and their defense in the bottom half of the 10th inning. That magic number now to clinch the National League Central Division down to just one. The Reds beating the Cubs earlier in the day and the Brewers keep on finding ways to get that magic number lower and lower. We will certainly be celebrating the division championship here coming up shortly. Your thoughts, your reactions, and of course your celebrations all welcomed on the program. GEP out at dinner and wow, I had to control myself in that 10th inning. I truly hope it’s nothing more than a bad bone bruise for Bill. A sloppy game offensively, but Bryce is nice. Let’s get that division tomorrow. Yeah, Bryce Terrain coming up clutch, right? 0 for four prior to that. The Brewers, as you had mentioned, Gap, frustrating. Uh, two for 12 with runners in scoring position in this one. Left 10 guys stranded on base. I don’t really think I don’t really fault them a ton. It felt like a lot of bad breaks, right? A lot of hard hit balls. It just right two defenders. Uh, especially Victor Scott out there in center field for St. Lewis uh with a diving catch earlier in the game to rob I believe it was Jackson Turo, might have been Christian Yellow, one of the two. Uh but it it certainly was uh it was frustrating from an offensive standpoint, but the Brewers again getting just enough to uh to get the job done. Cody, how about them Brewers a clutch win and a game away from a division title. However, I hope they figure out getting the runners in when in scoring position, but beautiful ninth inning. Yeah, that’s that’s the frustrating part and that’s the thing where you and I have talked about it all season long, you guys. This is kind of when the Brewers, they beat themselves with some of these things, right? It’s not necessarily other teams locking them down, but it’s when they’re not able to cash in or when they have a starting pitcher on the ropes and and and not being able to take advantage early in games, that’s when we see the Brewers struggle a little bit and kind of beat themselves. Tonight, they do just enough to get over that. But certainly, I agree with you, uh, Cody. You definitely you definitely got to get a little bit better. certainly get better timely hitting when uh when the playoffs come around. Charles over on YouTube, nice win, but seeing Contrarus get hitting hit in the hand and having to come out overshadows a little nervous about that hand. I think he’s by all indication by multiple reports, he’s going to be just fine, right? But like I mentioned, I think if your manager Pat Murphy is that kind of one of those things where you kind of take a little bit of a beat, kind of think about it, evaluate things, and go, “Ah, let’s see. uh let’s just wait, you know, let’s give him a few days off because again, division’s going to be locked up. I understand you’re in the race. Uh you’re going to get a top two seed in the National League. You know, you’re going to be able to avoid um you know, playing in that that opening wild card, but you got to be healthy, right? It is is being the number one seed but not being healthy equal being the number two seed and and being more healthier? Those are the options that manager Pat Murphy is certainly going to have to uh decide on every day or Nick. I wasn’t worried about getting the season record 100 wins. That is yet to be the season. I think right now 95 wins, right? Got a handful of games left still. Get to 97 because you know that would be the franchise record. Let’s get to 97 then let’s worried about where everything else goes for this bersing. More importantly, let’s just let’s just be healthy or let’s just try to stay healthy or get a little bit healthier. Isaiah over on YouTube. Wild first team win in which Chad Patrick started a game since May. Unreal to think about. Yeah. And again, the Chad Patrick was amazing earlier in the season, right? Like I think people kind of forget because it feels like it feels like May was a different season for the Brewers. like the beginning of the year wasn’t real for this team because where they are from where they were then to where they are now. Uh but Chad Patrick has been absolutely amazing for this team and has come up huge so many times for this Brewers team. Certainly at the beginning of the year tonight I thought he was good. Thought he was fantastic as well. Obviously doesn’t get the win. Jared Kaning much deserved getting the victory tonight. Locking things down. He got uh the uh honors for the locked on Brewers postcast player of the game, getting the last six outs in this game, including just a huge huge moment there in the bottom of the tenth. Dan over on YouTube, has Mona ever played first base? Yes, he has played first base a few times this year. Uh Dan saying he can’t recall. Still need to make a good throw and he delivered as always. It does pay. Uh Brian Anderson mentioned this on the on the in the television broadcast. It pays to have a an infielder there at first base, a middle infielder. Ramon’s kind of played everywhere for this team, but to make that throw from first to third there in the bottom of the 10th inning, absolutely huge. So, it’s it’s it’s absolutely an incredible play, right? It’s a turn. It’s part of the turning point in tonight’s victory. I I couldn’t agree more with you, Dan, to be able to to get the you know, obviously get the out at first, Cain to Mona, and then Mona to get it from first to third was just absolutely lights out. Isaiah with the breaking news over on the Lockdown Brewers Postcast YouTube channel saying Bill Wild Bill’s X-rays came back negative. He’s already asked Murf to play tomorrow. Yeah. So, I think he’s going to be completely fine. I wouldn’t worry about uh that going forward. I know certainly at the beginning of the show there might have been some fears. It’s now coming out that Wild Bill William Contraras uh leaving the game early in this one, but uh already asking to play and X-rays are negative. So, that’s good news for our Brewers. The better news, 3 to2 win. Magic number down to one to win the National League Central Division. And guys, soon we’re going to be celebrating a National League Central Division Championship here on the Lockdown Brewers Postcast. I can’t wait. Just an incredible year for this team and an incredible year from each and every one of you for always making Locked On Brewers part of your day each and every day. A quick reminder, free and available wherever you guys get audio podcast, Apple, Google, Spotify, Amazon, wherever you get audio podcast, you can get the Locked on Brewers podcast as well as over on YouTube where everything is free and available there as well. Go to the search bar, type in locked on Brewers. Hit that subscribe button, hit that thumbs up button. Locked on Packers responsibilities tomorrow. So, no locked on Brewers postcast. However, if the Brewers clinch a division, we may have to do a celebratory locked on Brewers postcast. We’ll play it by ear tomorrow. We’ll see how things go. I will be live on the locked on Packers uh YouTube channel after that game. So, we’ll see how the schedule fits. So, tenatively no show tomorrow, but I we’ll play we’ll see. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. Uh my thanks to each and every one of you. Thank you guys again for always making lockdown Brewers part of your day each and every day. And as always, win, lose, or draw, it certainly feels good when you you get that magic number down to one. It always feels good when you beat a division foe, but it feels really really good when you have a a crazy kind of wild up and down victory tonight and a 3 to2 win. The Brewers securing their 95th of the year. We’ll talk to you soon. And as always, go Brewers.
The Milwaukee Brewers pulled off a clutch 3–2 extra-innings win over the St. Louis Cardinals on the road. Brice Turang came through with the go-ahead knock in the 10th, and Jared Koening shut the door in the bottom half to lock up the team’s 95th win of the season. With the victory — and a Cubs loss earlier in the day — Milwaukee’s magic number to clinch the NL Central continues to shrink.
Brewers overall record: 95-60
Brewers record on the road: 43-33
Brewers record at home: 51-27

95!!!! only team over .600. what is about the team whit the most small market but whit the best spirit. !!!!
And the D-BACKS just beat the PHILLIES, 4-3!
We are only a few hours fom STL but as former Wisconsinites, the Brewers are our heart team. Cards would be #2
They say Philly will win the World Series. I don’t think so.
Stop using the word "frustrating" so often or learn to pronounce that first r. Every time you say it, and you say it a lot, it annoys the hell out of me
Vaughn what a steal!!!! Thnx white soxs.
That was not just The Play of the Game, it was The Play of the year.
Timing was perfect. Koenig had to freeze the runner, ,make a perfect hard throw to 1st and Mona had to make a perfect throw.
Great observation that it had to be a Shortstop arm on 1st.
Otherwise it's runner on 3rd, with 1 out, instead of no one on and 2 outs
Contreras’ x-ray came back clean. Thank goodness, no more injuries, on R&R.
Thumbs up! I'm doing Brandon "a solid".
Agree with Jarod Koenig being the player of the game. And Turang a close second place player of the game. But, the importance of Monesterio's throw to Durbin, puts Mona as the 3rd place player of the game. Such a great and uncharacteristic double play.
As far as resting players the Brewers are doing some of that already. Logan Henderson should be well rested as he returns around October 3rd. Trevor Megill should be well rested when he returns. D.L. Hall should be rested well when he returns. And he'll be a lefthander that might bump his way into the post season. Also, time to see how well rested Robert Gasser is. Gasser is pitching for the clinch. If Gasser has a good day, Sunday, then the Brewers clinch the #3 seed. Gasser can gain some quick major league clout by performing down the stretch.
