HoF?
I saw an article earlier today on ESPN where it said that Giancarlo Stanton was making a case for the HoF. I said that if he makes the HoF, there isn’t any reason why Dale Murphy, Don Mattingly, and Keith Hernandez shouldn’t be.
Considering the stats of Mattingly and Hernandez and comparing them to a current HoFer in Bill Mazeroski, there isn’t any reason why they shouldn’t be in just like Mazeroski. Don’t even get me started on Dale Murphy for God’s sake.
Hernandez had a similar length career in 17 years played and only have about four hundred less games than Maz, but outperformed him in every other metric including wAR.
Considering the stats on Bill Mazeroski and comparing them to Mattingly, Hernandez, and Murphy, why aren’t they in the HoF and goes Giancarlo Stanton deserve to be included in the HoF conversation?

In this house, Giancarlo is a HOFer.. end of story !
500 HR is 500 HR and hall worthy
If he gets to 500 he’s in, no question
Two top ten mvp finishes, one award, an average of 3 war per season? Even his “peak” is extremely meh. Absolutely not.
If he gets to 500 I’d say he’s a shoe in for HoF.
He needs like 2 more years of health and production, but you could still make a case for him if he retired today.
He is 100% a Hall of Famer if he gets to 500 home runs, IMO. He is statistically one of the best postseason hitters of all time and he won an MVP. If he gets to 500 he should be an easy selection.
I think at 500 he might have a case. At 450 he is definitely Hall of pretty fucking good, but not quite HOF yet. I think the amount of injuries definitely has played into that. Just my opinion though, I hope I’m wrong
Bill Mazeroski is not now nor has ever been the bar for entry into the HoF. While I think mattingly and Keith have ok to good cases for induction, Murphy falls a little flat for me.
As far as Stanton, I’m torn. I think 500 gets him in with an MVP and great postseason success. But I think he might be the last guy that 500 becomes automatic for induction unless Schwarber starts dropping multiple more 50 HR seasons.
To me, he is not a hall of famer. He was like the best for one year and he does not play defense. Don Mattingly was among the best players for several years ad he is not in the HOF. Keith Hernandez and Dale Murphy were better all around player than Stanton. Defense should count.
Only four players reached 450 home runs in fewer at bats. Only two of those didn’t use steroids. He’s in rarified air and would be in even better shape if he didn’t have the injury bug his whole career. We’re going to see a ton of HOF players with a ton of strikeouts moving forward, that’s just the way the game is now. If he gets to 500, it won’t even be a debate that he’ll get in. As of right now, I think he could make a case and get in after several tries.
500 is usually the magic number for Home Runs
If you hit 500 HRs, you’re a Hall of Famer. No questions asked.*
*Steroids and PED accusations excepted.
Im pretty sure the only non-hofer who wasn’t connected to steroids that has more HRs than Stanton is Adam Dunn. Stanton has done significantly more than Dunn when it comes to a HoF case. I think he eventually gets in he just may have to wait for a weak ballot. If he gets 500, he’s in a lot earlier.
He is not even close to being a hall of famer. Try again
Only in baseball would Giancarlo not be a shoe-in for the HoF.
Borderline
No, no, no, no, no, no, NO!.
If he gets to 500, Stanton will be the one who takes the “shoe in” out of that notion. Think about it…he’s barely got 1,600 hits. He only has three 100+ RBI years (one at exactly a hondo) and 312 2Bs. He also has over 2,000 Ks, a reputation as a putrid defender and a .258 career BA.
Injuries play a part no doubt, but he also lifted like he was on the practice squad of the 2007 Dolphins too.
He’s my starting DH in the “Hall of What Could’ve Been”
Has he been an excellent player for long enough? Good start to his career, but he’s spent the last 7 seasons being slightly above average. If he makes it in, it would be because he played long enough to have a HR total that people like, but he’s only had 5 outstanding seasons.
I don’t remember who said it but someone once described the “intangible” element of the hall of fame candidacy by saying “can you tell the story of his generation without including him.” I don’t think he passes that test and he sucks at litterally everything other than home runs so I’d say if there’s one person who can hit 500 HRs and not get in it’d be him. Also, FWIW his JAWS score appears to be low for a HOF candidate, so I guess the JAWS dude agrees
Stanton is really good at hitting the ball over the wall.
Carlos Delgado (472 HR) didn’t receive more than 5% of the votes in his first ballot. Stanton only gets in if he reaches 500 HR, but I think he would have to wait 8-10 years to get in (would probably start with 20% of the votes, and slowly go up to reach 75% in his final years in the ballot.)
The headline says he has a case and that is definitely true.
He has carried the Yankees & Judge in nearly every playoff series!
HOF dig the long ball. 50 more and he’s a lock
It’s a travesty that the league has juiced the ball and devalued 100+ years of the sport
