Washington Nationals vs New York Mets – FULL GAME HIGHLIGHTS | September 21, 2025 MLB Season
At City Field in New York, the New York Mets play the Washington Nationals. Seven games to go in the regular season and the Mets position has become a little more muddled with the Reds and the Diamondbacks both winning last night and the Mets losing. They have just a one-ame lead on Cincinnati, two over Arizona. Things off for the Nats 0 for seven in this series. Continuing his second half downturn. Maniah’s first fast ball is lined the other way and Woods got himself a hit on the first pitch of the game and that’s how this one begins. So Gorman and Sandy Kofax pulled on the ground handled by Batty out at second. McNeel at first low throw and Alonzo stays on the bag. Double play two men down. I’ll tell you, Gary, I just love when Batty attacks the baseball when he’s playing defensively and he comes at it and he’ll sometimes lose that low pitch. That one caught the inside retired. So, a double play and a strike out gets Maniah through the top of the first. No score. And the curve ball misses for ball four. So, the Mets have a one out base runner. Walk number 122 for Sodto. Three aways in 11 tries this season. Sodto edging away and they pick him off as a throw by Bell. The tag by Nunes and Sodto’s caught stealing. [Music] Brandon pulls one toward the hole past Bell and into right field. A base hit. So the Mets first hit belongs to Brandon Demo and Alonzo goes down swinging on the curveball. Also Irvin with a couple of strikeouts, both on the curve in that opening inning. No score after one. We’re 15 and 12 games out in July. There goes Lyle. Fly ball out to right. A long run for Sodto coming toward the line. He gets there to make the catch and Lyall retreats to first base. Nice running play by Sodto to retire to Young. Seventh pitch of the bat coming to Al Faro and he drills one out to left field. The long run back for Nemo. It’s over his head and off the wall. Lyle racing to third. The throw coming into Lindoris. Relay to second. Gets by. Backed up by Alonzo. Ly comes in to score as Alonzo can’t pick it up cleanly. And the Mets again guilty of throwing the ball around. It’s one- nothing Washington. After some wonderful defensive plays at second base yesterday and he clubs one deep to left. Nemo back at the wall. Leaps and it’s gone. Now seam Nunes with his third home run of the season, his first as a right-hand batter. A two-run shot to make it three nothing Washington. [Applause] That was a huge body blow. Pulls that curve ball over the bag. That’s a fair ball. It hits off the sidewall. takes a bounce away from Wood and Tor will easily get to second base. Luis Tor just keeps on producing his 14th double of the year. Gets the Mets started in the third. [Applause] Boy, there’s been a lot of hits down the line in this series, haven’t there? This one perfectly placed over two home runs as a Met flies this one toward the left field line. a longer up the road and slide for Lyle and he cannot come up with it and looks like he might be hurt. They’re going to call it a fair ball and TZ is going to score in the center fielder. Young is calling for emergency personnel right away. Not even paying attention to the game. They haven’t even called timeout now. Mullen slides into second base and he’s called out. What is going on here? play is dead. Personnel, but someone had to pick up the ball and get it back into play. I did not see the umpire’s call. All I saw was Torren all of a sudden take off from second base. But Mullins stopped playing. He was standing between first and second just watching everything transpire and did not attempt to do anything. And there at the last moment he takes off their second base and the Nets throw him out. Has a healthy lead. Not going. And Lor’s one caught by Bell for a double play. Sodto lines one down the right field line. That’s going to go into the corner. Too tall for Bell to handle this time. And Sodo has two out double. 63rd extra base hit of the season. And NMO strokes went out to left. Hassel just into the game. Reaches up and almost went over his head, but he stayed with it to retire the side. And Wood hits one past the mouth. Lindore a long way to get it. Go a first with it. There’s no way McNeel could have gotten to the bag in time. Young takes off and Holmes didn’t realize it. And Tor has no chance. Brady didn’t even cover the bag. You still got to cover the bag. It’s always a pretty good bet. Ground ball hit to third. Batty has it behind the bag. Throw in time to get the speedy Cruz and that retires the side. And he rockets one out to center field. A long run back for Young. Back to the track at the wall. He leaps and he bles and he caught it. He caught the ball. Oh wow. [Applause] first gets turned around, keeps it off the wall, then it pops out, hits him in the right foot. He hacky sacks it up into his left into the glove. That’s how he made that play. That is absolutely amazing. So, keeps it off the wall and then it comes out and then he packy sacks it with his rough foot. Oh my goodness. I’ve never seen a play like that. Door started the day with a nine-game hitting streak. 0 for two so far today. And now he rockets one to deep right field. Cruz goes back to the wall and it’s out of here. Number 28 for Francisco Lindor and the Mets pull back to him in a run. It’s three to two. That’ll slow him down. round of a couple of Gfield hits in his last outing and promptly gives up a base hit to Dylan Cruz to start this eighth inning. There goes Cruz. Swung and miss and no throw. And Cruz steals the base standing up. One and two to Chaparo. Back door to the slider for strike three. Perfect pitch by Sodto for the first down. 3-2 coming. Got him looking at a fast ball. Another perfect pitch by Sodto. Knees and black on the outside corner. Two men down. Two-2 fly ball. Shallow center. Backing up is McNeel. Calling catching side retire. Sodto works around the leadoff of the eight. 02 coming. Popped it up. Shallow left field. In comes Hassel. Lunz going out and Hassel makes the grab. One out. And NMO lifts one to right center. Should be easy for Cruz. Two out. And Pete hits one up the middle. That’s a base hit. So Alonzo has his second straight hit. And the Mets have the tying run aboard with two out for McNeel waiting up to bat for him. That kicks away and that’ll send Alonzo the second with the tying run. Mcneel rolls one over to the right side. The young makes the play side retired. Parker throw two and two/3 scoreless and we’re going to the ninth and the Mets down a run. One, two. Struck him out with a slider. Diaz fans all borrow one man down. 3-2 to house. Struck in half. Backto back strikeouts for Diaz. Both on the slide. Struck in half. Edwin Diaz strikes off the side in the top of the ninth. [Applause] That’s drilled to deep center field. Y hustling back to the warning track and he caught it again. Oh no. Jacob Young catching it right at the orange line. His second robbery of the day. Pounds it back in play. You saw a little wipe, but that was inside the entire time. [Music] Flies this one out to center. And this will be an easier play for Young. And the Mets are down to their final out. 02 line drive to short punt by Nunez and the Nationals take two out of three from the Mets. Jacob Young with a fantastic day in center field. A two-run homer by Nasim Nunees. Mitchell Parker gets a save in his first career relief outing.
