I know a lot of people say they need to give up on Henry Davis because of his lack of ability to hit on the major league level, but the numbers say differently.

I think if they had some better hitters to push him deep into the batting order that they'd be just fine.

  1. The pitchers seem to love him and while his defense isn’t stellar (his framing in particular is still weak), it’s better than Bart’s. I can only assume he calls a hell of a game

  2. The only thing I don’t like about Davis is his hitting. The issue is I truly hate his hitting

He seemingly calls a great game, absolute cannon, good athlete behind the dish, and hustles every damn chance he can

All he needs to do is hit .220 and he’s genuinely a damn good starting catcher

And tbf, while his savant page is still a lot of blue. His xwOBA is 80 points higher than his actual wOBA. His average is expected .221 with a .398 expected slug

  3. He’s had almost 600 major league AB’s and he’s batting .176 with 49 career RBIs. He’s not a major leaguer.

  4. Correctly identifying that the catcher is not the biggest problem with the team unfortunately does not mean that the catcher is a viable major league.

  5. He’s a great Catcher and he calls good games. I just wish we could hit. If he even hits 220 I would be happy.

  6. There’s a reason he became the primary catcher over the course of this season despite not hitting at all. He’s pretty excellent at everything else.

Hopefully he has winter plans on working on his swing, if he can even be a mediocre bat everything else he does well would make him a valuable player.
