Would have been a nice pickup and fun to see him back!
As much as I wish we could have picked him up, we would still be in as much shit as we are now with him on the team. He would have helped, sure, but his presence alone doesn’t solve all of our bats going cold at the same time, the numerous holes in our starting pitching rotation, and our un-clutch bullpen.
What a reasonable, unbiased take from media having no connections to either party.
Maybe if we weren’t such stingy bastards in general. Didn’t really sign anyone in the offseason & got all our deadline acquisitions from the dumpster behind the dollar store.
Like when do you see a team in the Tigers position (#1 team in the league in July) be so stingy about trading prospects instead of prioritizing making a world series push?
JV also pitched under Hinch. I think that had something to do with that too.
Do we know for SURE that he was available? I never heard or read and rumors about him being moved.
dumb take. Verlander was 0-8 and looked washed at the trade deadline. Yes, he’s looked a lot better over the past month, but to say the Tigers SHOULD have traded for him is 100% hindsight GMing. It looked like a dumb trade at the time and nobody blamed them for not doing it.
Edit: Also, Verlander can’t hit so that doesn’t solve the Tigers bigger problem.
I just wanted him earlier this year because it would have been nice bringing him back to Detroit and I like that idea of him finishing out his later years with the Tigers. Now I want him because he would have been a legitimately good get.
How do we know that it want pursued?
I don’t like Ben Verlander.
He shit on the Tigers last deadline for weeks, then failed to acknowledge that Trey Sweeney was a good pickup at the time and helped the Tigers reach the postseason (god SS has been a black hole since 2013) and he tried to join in on all the fun with Tigers fans when we went on that miracle run without acknowledging all the shit talking he did weeks earlier.
His whole grift is making fans nostalgic for 2011-2013 to bash the current team with no actual critical thinking involved.
Not a single team trade for him. Do y’all remember what his numbers were the deadline…Not just a Tigers thing!…
How about any starting pitcher worth a damn instead…it’s not shocking when you pick up multiple pitchers with a 5 ERA that they perform exactly like they were before you got them. That’s not a shocker
Or could have signed him begin the season instead Alex Cobb….
This is such a tired and debunked narrative .
The Tigers are batting .228 as a team in the month of September, so it would take a bit more than Verlander throwing 6 innings of 2-run ball to get them out of this jam.
JV is in the middle of the same stretch Charlie Morton was on before we traded for him. Who couldn’t have seen any of this coming????
Hindsight is 20/20.. give it a rest
Ben verlander is a bag of dicks
Ben is a douche
I’m pretty sure nobody will look back at this collapse and say it was because we didn’t have JV
They’re two cheeks of the same ass
His Mother re-tweeted it so it must be true!
I agree with him. Even if JV wasn’t pitching better, it would have been a great veteran presence. But I thought he would come around. He always does.
Fuck Scott Harris
Ben is pretty insufferable on twitter.
Anyway, could JV have helped the Tigers? Sure. But it’s just as possible that he could have turned into Charlie Morton once back with the team.
And JV doesn’t help our anemic offense.
No one traded for him so we dont really know for sure, we dont know what his price was, we dont even know if he really wanted to leave.
