First and foremost, thoughts and prayers for whatever he is going through.

With that said, the season is not over and whatever is taking his bat out of the lineup surely can’t be more important than missing a game for what seems like no reason.

Hopefully this lack of being a team player isn’t something that is normalized. If so, I believe we might want to consider someone who is more of a team player to replace him.

Curious of your thoughts. Go Cubs!

  1. I understood him missing the day it happened, that was tough, and he likely saw the video of someone he considered a friend dying.

However, I don’t really respect him missing this game or any future games for this shit. The understanding is that ball players miss for the birth of a kid, or bereavement for a direct relative. That’s about it unless you’re sick or injured.

  2. Have some empathy.

There’s more to life than politics and baseball. If you can’t understand why a 23 year old kid might have a hard time dealing with what happened, then you genuinely need to seek mental health help. I promise I say that with concern and not malice.

We’re all humans just doing our best, we’re allowed to have complicated emotions and feelings.

  3. He put his manager and team in a weird position. That said, this shld be the last game he misses so we just need to move on and hope he helps the cubs win baseball games. It personally put a bad taste in my mouth but who the fuck am i

  4. Frankly if he needs to take the day off to mourn let him. His head wouldn’t be in the game either way.

  5. lol there’s a whole lot of whiners on this thread. You never know what players are going through and if something is affecting them mentally then it’ll show on field anyway.

This is just a game and for our entertainment. That’s it and there are a whole lot bigger issues with this team than the #9 hitter.

  6. Let’s remember these players are actual human beings with real feelings and emotions. If he wants to attend the memorial service of a friend – whoever that may be – I have no problem with it. Real life comes first.
