I was there for the game and speeches afterward. It was quite something. Had season tickets in right field. Almost all of the regulars were there. The crowd was, as they say, electric. Had almost forgotten about it but still have pictures from that night.
New stadium is nice – roomier, and easier to get around but gave up the season tickets which, for some reason, were worse than what I had. Something to do with all the luxury boxes pushing the old holders out of their old seats. Still make it to a handful of games each year but not quite the same. Oh well.
I had the privilege of going to this game. I basically begged my dad to go to the game with me and he was awesome and got us tickets for my birthday. It’s the only game I ever really felt I had to go to, I had to be there. We lost a little something when we tore the old stadium down.
This speech was given spontaneously,
That’s how good Derek Jeter was in the moment.
I miss the old stadium and the black bands on the sleeves.
I wonder how much the tickets were for this game
I was very fortunate to have had the last minute opportunity to go to this game. A co-worker of my wife at the time couldn’t make it because of an emergency and knew I was a huge fan so he just gave them to us for free. Definitely a top moment in my life
I miss that freaking stadium. Going there as a kid thinking of all the games and players who graced the field. The place rocking during the playoffs.
I like the new one for what it is, but it will never match the magic I felt in the old one.
I was there. Flew out from California. Yogi Berra was there. Babe Ruth’s daughter was there. I took a photo of Jeter looking right at me tipping his hat as they walked around the field after. I remember the players trying to take dirt from the mound as a souvenir. That mound was rock hard and they worked up a sweat to just get a little handful.
