A Rip City Reunion | Damian Lillard Returns to Portland | Trail Blazers

I want to be remembered for who I was. Not as a player, but like the principle that I stood on regardless of how successful I was. I’m just excited, you know, and really thankful and appreciative of the door being open for me to come back. You know, it means a lot to me to not only play for this organization, but to be back in this community. I had to earn my way, and I I didn’t know that I was going to ever get the credit for it or ever get the results for it. So, I know what it’s like to be unknown. you going to sing him happy birthday together to not have the lights on you. I don’t forget those steps that it took for me to get here. When I first made it to the league, my dad told me the night I got drafted, the best thing that I’m going to be able to do with my gift and my blessing is impact other people. There’s certain stuff that I got to do to maintain that status and that level of of what I do on the court, but what I do for other people is most important. the more I can impact and, you know, share with you guys my story or things that I’ve seen with other people and how it can help you guys. I think when I’m here sharing it with you in front of your faces, I think it’ll it’ll get through better. Portland and the the Trailblazers is just important to me. It was always genuine for the first 11 years of my career. Finally, opening night for you in the NBA. How’d you feel about your play? I feel real good. Lillard for the win. This guy is the rookie of the year. Trailblazer fans, if they weren’t already in love with Damen Lillard, they are going to be now. And the Blazers win the series [Applause] right here. Long way. What? Blazers win the series. A walkoff three from Lard. The Portland Trailblazers are going to the conference finals for the first time since 2000. 71 points. We are so lucky to get to watch you play basketball. Thank you. Thank you. And he is now the alltime scoring mark in Blazers history. Be mentioned amongst so many great players, but it was an honor for me. It never felt right not being home. The talent to the depth. This is one of those teams that’s coming along. This is the type of team want to be built around. The league is changing. Young teams that guard and that have depth and that compete, that are connected. This team has all of those things. I ain’t going to cry, man. Like, I don’t usually be feeling like that, but I feel so happy on the inside.
