What even is there to discuss? The Jets stink and will continue to stink for the foreseeable future.
Why can’t we just be happy during this quarter of the year!
I’m tired, boss.
It hurts.
Despite the score it was not a close game. Bucs took their foot off the pedal and we got lucky. Tyrod was fine but wow he takes a ton of hits. We’ll learn next week if we’re gonna be 6-11 or 2-15. Can we beat the bad teams or are we just bad?
Also if Fields is out and the offense struggles, we need to get Cook in there to see what he’s got.
Every year I illogically put together reasons for a super bowl run.
By October all I really want is to be ‘in the hunt’ and play meaningful football late in the year
We probably aren’t going to be good for another couple of years if it even gets that far before we have to rebuild again.
I’ve seen in a lot of comments all over the Jets online spaces that want to discount the teams fight back yesterday. And I get it, I’ve been a fan for 30 years, we are sick and tired of morale victories. However, they did fight back yesterday. 21-6 in the 4th quarter was awesome. Awful 3 quarters but they didn’t quit which IS a big win for Glenn and the staff.
I went into the year thinking this is a 5 win team. Week 1 gave me hope but it’s probably still a 5 win team. The Jets have talent but some gaping holes including the most important position on the field. QB, WR 2, CB 2 are absolutely glaring holes.
Glenn is a 1st year HC, Engstrand is a 1st year play caller, there will be many ups and downs year 1, mostly downs. But just like how the Lions were with Campbell year 1, you want to see that fight and never give up attitude and that’s what we got yesterday.
Breece Hall needs to go. Let’s get some draft picks for him.
Sauce is a solid corner but he’s not shutting down one side of the field like a Revis-type. Mixed feelings on letting him go, but there’s some great value you could get for him.
Similiar feelings about GW.
If the team is gonna rebuild, let’s not half ass it. Let Mougy and Glenn draft their guys and see how it plays out.
The Saleh Jets are what they are – relatively talented, but loser DNA. Kind of like Saleh as an HC.
We suck again.
I know AG just got here but this is the latest in a long line of very bad teams. The coach/GM can change but we we’re incapable of fielding a decent offense and until we luck out on a QB that’s all we’ll be. The LB and DBs shitting the bed just compounds the issue.
Don’t know why anyone would say this was a 8 to 10 win team. Nobody had seen them play with the new players and new staff, so there was no data to come to *any* conclusion.
Just goes to show you that analysts and press conferences are worthless.
I commend the team for fighting, but something need to change with the the defense. I thought Moore and for the little he played Thomas brought some Juice to the team, but there no reason why we can’t be at least middle of the pack.
We don’t know how good this staff can be yet — although Wilks suuuuucks — but we’ll never attract a good staff unless we draft an enticing QB like Dart, Herbert etc. The Jets can’t even lure an OC.
I was at the game. Great atmosphere, lost my voice but it was well worth it despite the loss.
One thing is clear to me after that final drive, and it’s that no one on the defense gives a shit about this team or AG.
Offense desperately doing just enough with a backup QB to keep the game close, and special teams comes up with a huge play to sneak a win against all odds. The coach is fired up on the sidelines. This is your chance to get the team their first win of the season. 1:35 left on the clock and then…
Sauce and Quincy injuries suck, sure, but Mike Evans also was injured. Our DL couldn’t get pressure against *2nd-string practice squad OLs* when blitzing 6-7 players. Our DC kept calling blitzes leaving Egbuka in single man coverage against our backup CB. Like, wtf were those playcalls? Take a page out of Madden and run Cover 2 since blitzing wasn’t doing shit.
This team is the same old Jets with new faces, and once again, the season is over by September. There is no reason to watch this team flail the rest of the season while we try to eke out positives from a roster that is just collecting game checks.
One of the more bizarre games I’ve ever seen
I feel like I *should* be encouraged after yesterday, but I’m not
We seriously do find new ways to lose every week
Jet fans have been complaining about the the DL rotation for three weeks in a row and nothing is changing. We can blame Wilks but Wilks is running Glenn’s Cover 1 base defense, so idk why Glenn is immune from criticism.
Glenn clearly believes that starting DEs need to be the complete package as pass rushers and run defenders (i.e. Aiden Hutchinson, Z’Darius Smith) and that run defense from the DL is more important than pass rushing ability. He will start a mediocre-average run defender (Clemons) with no pass rush skills over a weak run defender with elite pass rush skills (McDonald). He wants his DBs to provide sticky man coverage to cause coverage sacks, but none of our corners except Sauce have shown this ability yet except Thomas in a small sample size.
This is like in 2021 where Saleh stuck to his scheme of only rushing 4 and never blitzing when we had no talent on the DL, and we had the worst defense in the league. It only got better when he developed or acquired the players to generate consistent pressure with a four man rush.
I honestly can’t remember the last time we had a coaching staff that was good at game planning and strategy.
Yeah another thread people complaining about a rebuilding team that was left barren not competing for the playoffs. How original.
My fear is that this year isn’t even rock bottom. We’ll reach for a rookie qb, lose breece, and still have too many holes to fill in a single off-season. We’re legitimately playing for 2027 3 games into 2025.
I had a few game management thoughts, some admittedly quite unhinged, but wondered what others thought:
1) We accepted penalities against the TB offense on 3rd & 9 and 3rd & 19 when declining them would have got us off the field. Sauce was then flagged for DPI on 3rd & 29. Why not decline the penalties and accept a probable field goal rather than risk extending the drive?
2) The WMD block and TD was obviously an incredible moment but would it not have been a better option, given how poor the defense had been up to that point, to go down at the 1-yard line, burn as much clock as possible, and run a QB sneak or something? I know that’s asking for trouble but I don’t think any Jets fan saw how much time the Buccs had left on the clock and didn’t know they were going to win.
3) Once TB had worked it well into FG range should we not have let them walk in for the TD and give the ball back to Tyrod? A second blocked FG seemed incredibly unlikely. I guess TB would have gone down at the 1 if we’d tried this.
Lol at people thinking the Jets were gonna beat a top ranked team in the Bucs. I get they didn’t look great for a good portion of the game, but damn, that 4th quarter was sick and almost absolutely legendary.
Take with this that this game was a step in the right direction from the embarrassment of week 2, and let’s hope they can continue this way into week 4 against a much weaker opponent in the Dolphins.
This team should be 2-1 right now, sitting pretty with an easy upcoming schedule leading to a wildcard appearance. They just keep finding ways to blow it, year after year. I just don’t get it, man
We’re going to lose to the fish watch
Whens the last time this offense took a shot downfield? Watching all the games yesterday and every other team draws these drive changing PI calls from downfield shots and we are just always passing to guys that run routes short of the sticks.
Listening to AG, starting to sound like Kotite after only 4 games.
The D is horrible. There’s been no improvement in any aspect of the game over last season. Lose the Toilet Bowl Monday will be irrelevant before October.
My prediction: next home game parking will cost more than Jet tickets on secondary markets.
I said during the offseason that this team will be flirting with 0-17 and we may win 3-4 games and people hated me lol. Anyone that actually knows the game understands that as a collective we have one of the worse rosters in football. We have some good players but it’s overshadowed by the severe lack of depth. Going in the season having Josh Reynolds, Tyler Johnson and Allen Lazard as our 2nd, 3rd and 4th receivers is malpractice but our GM. Anyone thinking that Arian Smith would make an impact was severely mistaken. Mougey signed the worst player from the ravens defense last year to a substantial deal lol. Our offensive line overrated by the fanbase, they are pretty average. And top it all off, we signed Justin Fields to be our QB.
This is a bad football team and we will not be competitive for a while
Notes from yesterday’s game…
Rushing attack was very poor outside of Tyrod. Breece Hall had the seventh-fewest yards in a game in his career. I feel like this offense only has three consistent playmakers: Hall, Wilson, and the QB’s run game (it’s nice to know that Tyrod can contribute there). The Jets are tied for last in the NFL with only 5 player games of 50+ yards from scrimmage (Wilson x3, Hall x2)
Brandon Stephens has allowed a passer rating of, not a joke, 148.7 as a Jet. Easily the worst by a Jets CB (min. 10 targets) in recorded history (which admittedly isn’t very long, at least on PFR)
Will McDonald had the first blocked field goal return TD for the Jets in *exactly* 28 years, September 21, 1997. Sixth in Jets history; four of the six were in September. (The last one, by Ray Mickens, also gave the Jets a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, but they managed to hold on)
Since firing Robert Saleh, the Jets are 3-12 and have allowed 412 points; only the Titans, Cowboys, and Panthers have allowed more.
Deeply missing Vera-Tucker.
3 comments:
1. Saleh wasn’t a good head coach but let’s be real, the defense has been awful since he left
2. Sauce and Garrett are slightly overrated. To use a baseball analogy, we basically got Reyes/Wright and acted like it was Jeter/Arod
3. Was watching the game in a bar with 25 other Jets fans and not a single one of us thought the Jets were winning after we saw there was still 1:49 on the clock after the WMD play.
