Reds finish off SWEEP of Cubs to move into possession of the third NL Wild Card spot! π
Now thank you Annie. Ninth inning first pitch miss Tobias Sion seeking his seventh save of the year. He already has a couple in September. One and one byos pinch hit in the sixth. He flyed out. Red’s pitching has retired 10 of 11 all by the bullpin. That was started by Martinez to end the fifth inning. Up and away. Sonny on pitching in a third straight game. Worked around a walk a scoreless eighth two nights ago. Misses there. got the Reds out of a jam with a run in, two on. He stranded them both. Got half and by Eteros to wrap up the eighth just last night. No doubles at first. That’s a walk in a one- nothing game. A lead layoff walk. Dansby Swanson a single. He’s one for three. Has a steal. Well, wide. popped up. Treinho, no play. [Music] After the game, Reds live the postgame show. BG and Sam on the desk, your local Toyota dealers. If the Reds could hold on and win this game, they would match the Mets. They own the head-to-head tie break for the third wild card spot. In the air, right center. Marte the call. Reds are two outs away. pinch hitter will come to the plate standing in for Justin Turner. The switch hitting Billy Castro. Now Kebran Hayes gets in on this conversation. Could Bunning for a hit be part of him? Castro a ground rule double last night scored a run. Hayes is back a step at third. Strike one on the series. So far, Red’s pitching has held the Cubs to a 194 average and seven total runs, trying to complete a four game sweep. Up and away. [Music] Castro has hit into 11 ground ball double plays this year between the Twins and Cubs. [Applause] One, two, knock it away. And Castro’s not been nearly the same hitter since the Cubs brought him in at the deadline. Just a buck 77 in a Chicago uni on base in the 250 striking out a good amount. Hayes off the line with two strikes. Strike him out. All the work that Tony Santion has seen this year, its quality is still remain. High velocity, good run, good finish on that 97 mph heater. the former ready to roll and he goes breaking ball strike on BCH. He is the Cubs top home run hitter who has singled today. [Applause] Marte plays deep and right. Back door miss. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Hold count. Crow Armstrong on deck by Asteros. The tying run will be off. [Applause] A walk. Tying run to scoring position. Second walk on the inning. Derek Johnson out to chat with Santion. Big battle to come with the potent bat of Pete Crow Armstrong. What are you thinking and seeing here? Well, you know, obviously it’s about not going in there and just laying a pitch in there because of the potenta. So, stay with your good stuff. Make quality pitches. Just believe in yourself and don’t try to do too much. [Music] It’s been a frustrating series for PCA and I’m sure he is looking for one pitch, one location to put one swing on. He is one hit in two at bats lifetime against Santion. It was a home run. [Applause] Right at him strike one. [Applause] in the air left side. Hayes and Trevvinho give a look. That’s into the seats and the Reds again to strike away. [Applause] Let’s go. [Applause] Got him looking. Sweep complete. The Reds are in playoff position. A one- nothing final. Book and donut deliveries. The first four game sweep by the Reds of the Cubs since 18. Just their second in 42 years. Well, it’s always great to beat the Chicago Cubs and even more so in the fact that we are in the race and taking control of our own destiny. Must win games. must-win series, a sweep, and it’s been everything. It started with Hunter Green and his brilliance, great pitching to start off this series and then a combination or the power in game two and then a combination of the two in game three. And here once again, it goes reverts back to the pitching. I feel like Andrew Abbott didn’t have his great stuff, but he found a way to keep this team close. Not a lot of offense. This bullpen, I think, gets a lot of credit. Not a lot of offense, but it’s been a team win. And this team is playing some great, great baseball right now. John, a little more than two weeks ago, the Reds stood six games back. They have won five in a row, six of seven. They are even with the Mets. They have the tiebreaker over the Mets. It was the wins on back-to-back days that secured that series against New York. They were the ignition. Reds going from six out to dead even and in prime playoff positioning owning that tiebreak. And you know the way that they’ve played the the way that they have stepped up in these it’s been it has been a must-win situation. I know we’ve said that earlier in the season but you know there’s a there’s a finality to it. There’s there are only there’s a week left of games and you had to win because you were behind and they have done an exceptional job of playing winning baseball. One run on the game posted by the Reds. The Pirates will be next off day tomorrow. Pirates have delivered 18 shutouts this year, the most in the majors, but they have been slipping of late. They’ve lost 12 of 14. That’s how it shapes up for the series. Join us for Reds live from Ray St. Clair Roofing each game here on FanDuel Sports Network. The punch out by Tony Santion. The final moment. Shut out and sweep complete. Post game is next.
The Reds earn a 1-0 victory over the Cubs to finish off a four-game sweep, moving them into a tie for the third NL Wild Card spot, where they hold the tiebreaker over the Mets.

MetsReds!!!!The NY Mutts, keeping hope alive in Cincinnati….
Thank you reds – every brewers fan
I never would have imagined the Mets and Astros missing the playoffs at the beginning of the year, I didn't even think it would happen 2 weeks ago, but that could very likely happen.
This Reds team is quietly stirring.
Classic September Mets Meltdown ππππ
Not the most ideal way Iβd want the brewers to win the division but Iβll take it
LMAO Mets have collapsed! Letβs go Reds!
The Reds are unpredictable: Swept by the A's, only to sweep the Cubs. But they've overcome a huge hurdle. Go Reds!
It was an excellent series. The Cubs laid down for four games trying to get a glorified beer league team known as the Reds into the playoffs by hopefully eliminating the Mets. Well played Cubs!
Sweep accomplished
You have my permission, Cubs, to go & sweep the Mets!
#ATOBTTR LETS GO CINCY! β€
Hard to believe the Mets had the best record in all of baseball in the middle of June. What an epic collapse. Let's go Reds !
Pete Crow Armstrong aka Pete Caught Looking

Donβt do that, donβt give me hope
