I was lucky enough to see him pitch when the Angels played the A’s in Sacramento. It was cool to see him one last time
Think he signs a 1 day deal with the cubs, either at end of this season or beginning of next year?
He should have retired after last season, but I get it. He probably thought he had something left in the tank.
Expected? Like if he doesn’t get a contract? That’s how it works.

7 scoreless innings in 2 of his last 3 starts (we’ll ignore the one in the middle). Here’s to going out on a high note this weekend.
I hope he gives coaching/managing a chance. Not many smart pitchers out there anymore. Just a bunch of throwers looking to burn heaters and breaking balls.
Oh give me one game of Boog with Rizz and Karl doing color commentary.
Thank you, you beautiful man. Love you baby
I saw him in his first MLB game on 7/10/14 at Great American Ballpark. We had great seats behind the Cubs bench and I’m so old I took pictures that day of him with a film camera. I need to dig those up.
I also remember that game because I was too cheap to buy bottled water so I got dehydrated and had kidney stones a day or two later. Good times.
Not many left playing from the 2016 team. I mean it was almost 10 years ago but still kinda makes me sad.
My son is 12 and an aspiring pitcher. We watch so much Hendricks together. Teaching him the art of movement over speed. Gonna miss you professor. Thank you for 2016.
Professor Emeritus
Is he gonna get invited to Wrigley like Rizzo too you think?
Don’t look past that he earned his 10 year service time with MLB this past year. That is guaranteed lifetime benefit for both him and his spouse for the rest of their life.
Nice not having to worry about things like insurance, etc… later in life, even if you’ve made 8 figures.
Kinda thought that was coming. The Cubs visiting him in Anaheim was a cool day.
Cubs HOF?
I’m wondering which front office offers him 6 figures a year to be director of pitching ala Breslow’s previous role with the Cubs or Bannister’s with the Giants. Kyle’s pitching knowledge plus modern fastball development would require a super tight, live ball in 10-15 years to overcome the shift in the balance of the game towards pitching. Best of luck to you, Professor!
I am happy that I finally saw him pitch and got to greet him from the stands during warmups when the Angels faced the Astros in August. 6 IP 1ER vintage professor
Congrats on the great career Kyle!
As an Angel?
Rest now, brother. We have the watch, and I’ll see you in Valhalla.
Too bad it’s not as a Cub like Rizzo.
I caught his 4 hit cg shutout against the Marlins back in 2016. Legendary Cubs
