Here are the BEST defensive plays of the week! (feat. Jacob Young, Victor Robles and MORE!)
ground ball. Oh, nice play there by York and on the first and a slick pick by Horowitz. Terrific play. Saves a run right there. Let’s see if the Pirates can get something going here in the bottom of the fourth. Scooped by Horowitz. Nice play by the first baseman and that ends the inning. A run on two hits for the Cubs to take advantage. Celebrate an opportunity for they get the force in second and they turn the double play. Altuve down to the ground, flipped it over to Pena from his stomach and Pena turns two. One step to his right and fall on it and is able to slide that thing over to Jeremy Py who somehow picks it and still makes the play on Jonah. That was a beautiful double play and a much needed double play after that first hit was given up. Grounded down to third. Diving stop by Barger and he throws him out. What a great play by Addison Barger. Absolutely terrific. I mean, that’s a classic third baseman’s play. Dives to his left, pops to his feet, and then doesn’t have time to get on top of it and use the armstick, throws from the side, right on the money to Vlatty. Round ball. Great stop by Jimenez. Throw to first. Got him. What a play by Jimenez. I mean, that’s terrific. He was on the outfield grass. He got to it. He knocked it down and got to his feet. Who said he can’t play shorts stop? You know, for a second baseman, he’s doing all right over at Short. What a play to end the inning. This one in to short left and a diving catch out there by Simpson. This throws back to second but the runner back in. Ball started to sink and Simpson got there. Two gone. How about it off the bat? Looked like trouble. Chandler Simpson though. Watch him close ground. Close ground. Eyeball it and get down there. Serve to left field. Long run from Martin toward the line. Did he make the play? Looks like he has the ball in his glove. Yes, he did. New York is challenging that it was not a catch. I don’t think the fan touched it because I think it would have moved the baseball and he would not have been able to catch it after you catch. Chucky Robinson first made it to the big leagues with the Reds as Ranger gets to that one. Throws on the run. What a play. The sacrifice is successful, but that is a remarkable play by Ranger Suarez. I mean, you just do not get a better play than this. This ball should have been fielded by Otto Kemp. For some reason, he went back for him to do this little fadeaway throwing to get that much on it. I know Chucky Robinson doesn’t run that well, but what an amazing play. It’s this one deep to center. Jorge Barrosa all the way to the wall. Now he’s got it. Slicing off the bat of Eldridge. He hit it to the 413 mark and Jorge ran it down. Man, does he cover some ground out there. I mean, gets a great jump, drop step immediately to get back to the spot, makes that catch right up against the Baron. 106 m an hour. And Torelloo has always told us that Barrosa can catch the ball in any direction. One of the best center fielders in the system. That ball is hit deep right center. Eli White to the wall and making a great grab. Reaching up to take extra bases away from James Wood. I’ll call it even for the defense. An error to start this game. And then an excellent play in right field by Eli White to take extra bases away from James Wood. He went up back to the wall and right into that chain link fence. I never like those fences in the outfield. I always feel like they’re dangerous. Just Eli W played that perfect. How do you go from center field to behind the plate? Athlete like that. The field all the way into the corner. This could tie the game. I into third. They’re going to wave him home. Arius is thrown to the plate in time. They got him. Oh, terrific throw by Arius. And a really good job of Bo Naylor waiting on Az because Abanz tried to fake him out with a swim move and there was nothing doing. That had to be 90 miles an hour coming in. Maybe better than that, but it got him in time. And a beautiful tag by Bo. Look at this. He didn’t even let his hand get in on the back. Good job. I mean, he knew his feet were ready to go. He knew he had to get rid of it quickly. He He was watching. That was textbook. And Zebie Matthews is back to work. And McMahon sends it high and deep to left center. Outman back to the wall. Jumps up, makes the play up against that Twin TV side in left field. The leaping catch made by Outman and McMahon is out number one. Down to third to the backhand. Machado from foul ground. Got him. Good stretch on the other side by O’Harn. Throw a little bit to the home plate side and that will end the inning. We are through seven in New York. 82 Mets have the lead. Nice play by Manny Machado. He just got Machado. Diving stop by Clement and another good play out at second base for out number two. He’s been very good no matter where he played. And we talk about how many times he’s made plays tonight. That’s the sixth time he’s had a ground ball he’s made a play on. He’s also caught a popup tonight. So he’s seen a lot of action at second base. 02 line to center field. Do it and makes a catch. Sully, you always say when you’re coming in and having to dive coming in, that’s the most difficult dive. Began the year in Everett and has made it all the way to TripleA. JP, how about an assist? Wow, they drew that up in the sand lot and it’s out number one. Crawford to Revas to Naylor. What a way. This is unbelievable. At this point, he kind of knows that he can’t get up and make the throw. Revas is there paying attention, locked in on what JP’s doing. Bare hands it. Finishes it. Wow, what a play. Wonder how long it’ll go though. This ball’s hit really well to center field and Meyers gets robbed. Doyle takes it back. Do not hit that guy or the one in center field. He’ll fire that one. Well struck. Sean racing back, lunges for it and makes the play. How about that catch every night at the last possible second hits it pretty well right field corner. Corbin Carroll on the run and he’s got it. Corbin on his horse. Runs it down right in front of the Giants bullpen. Boy, that was really tailing away from him. Had to go a long way to get to it. Hit hard to third. Jos has it. He gets up. He throws. Got him. Jose Ramirez with a big time defensive play at third and it stays two nothing Cleveland. Deep left center field. Canario on his horse. Oh, what a play by Canario. They might get a double play out of this. They will. Sensational catch Alexander Canario. Here’s the set at an 01 and a swing and a ground ball right up third. Nice snare by Cam Deainy and a target right there on the first one out. He’s played a really nice third. Tell you, he’s got a strong arm, doesn’t he? That’s one of the very first things I remember. It was a ball that I was impressed with was in on the grass. He just kind of flicked his wrist and the ball just shot across the infield and I was like, whoa, that’s that’s an arm. Yoshida with a liner to center. Coming in is Butler. He leaves his feet to make the catch. And yet another defensive gem by the A’s center fielder. Wow, that’s a fine play by Lawrence. Blinded, diving, and catching. And Carnosion turned what looked like a base hit into an out. Wow. And a fly ball center field. Late start for Lifer. Coming on for it though is Garcia and he makes the diving catch. Wow. How about that effort from El Bombi? Breaking ball right back at Mton. Diving stop Duran and a great throw and Ezekiel Durant once again given an opportunity. Ground ball. Pñena backhands jump throw to first and the scoop is made and the tag is made by Walker. Great play by Jeremy Pñena going to his right. Went with a jump throw. Two two is lifted out into right field. Garcia was deep. Comes in, reaches down and made another great catch. Well, he’s given him everything he has right now. Reaching down. I mean, right before this hits the ground. And here’s him. And the throw to first is in town. Seymour got there in a hurry and made a heck of a play. That’s as good as get him at first base. Left field line. Martin over and Martin makes another great play. Sliding across the line, crashing into the padding and Austin Martin has played incredible left field. Back into center field. Simpson’s going to go to the track to the wall. He leaps. He’s got it. Chandler Simpson made the catch. What a play from Chandler Simpson out there in center field. Now Young Scaldway. What a play by Pena. The throw in. What a way to finish this off. Jeremy Pñena leaving his feet to his left. The pick by Christian Walker and the save for Brian King. Oh, nice play by Chisum. Throw to first. Got him. A sparkler by the Yankee. Second baseman. He took a base hit away from Lee. Can you say that was acrobatic? That was acrobatic. Wow. Well, now we know Jazz can do a cartwheel because we just saw it on this throw and Lee hits this ball up the middle. Jazz does a good job of getting up quick. I mean, I I I think I’ve seen some of those moves in gymnastics in the Olympics. Broken bat. He’s got it. What a catch by Haron. And a double play. And just like that, he’s out of some potential trouble in inning number seven. Are you kidding me? A broken back soft liner back to Haron. He made the catch. And Taylor to left center. Perkins will run it down with a slide. And he caught it with a backhand. Blake Perkins. He saved two runs with an incredible catch. And this is in the air to shallow right. And the catch was made by Freeman. Does a good job getting underneath it, securing it with that slide. That’s a line drive and what a catch by Brandon Laauo. That was a bullet off the bat of Barger, but fortunately Brandon Laauo was in the right place and showed a good reaction to his right. He delivers. Swinging a hard ground ball into the hole at short. It’s grabbed on a backhand with a dive by Adamos. A two hop throw to first in time to get it. Willie Adamus saving a run with that play. The inning is over. 53 strikes and you can add one to each column here. And Frasier makes a sliding play inside the line. Wow, he’s all over the park. That guy can play in the air. Coming in is Lawrence Butler going out is Jacob Wilson and the short stop. What a catch. I mean, he’s a wizard with the wand. Not too bad out there with the leather either. Jacob Wilson immediately turns the back. you start to track this thing over your shoulder and the fact that you watch him start to reroute a little bit and make the adjustment. I think at times what you see is a fielder kind of maintain their path and they end up throwing the glove over to the side almost waving at the ball. It’s cracked to center field. Fredel going deep gap. Suzuki through second. Spinning throw by Fredel to Da Cruz. Suzuki rounding third. Fire to the plate and stay there. He is out. Freedle de la Cruz Trovinho and they cut him down to the plate. That’s a gutsy send. That is a gutsy send and really nice job by TJ Fredo. Well, he doesn’t strike out the side. Can Azie get to this? They got him. It was slowed off of Elders’s glove, but Azie still able to make a great play to get Bayz. What a play. right field coming on. Judge dives and he makes the play. That’s 67 280 lbs diving to the ground and making a very athletic play. It’s really pretty incredible. 1-1 jam shot hit towards second over to get it and spinning and throwing to first as Palasios Seymour digs it out and they got him. Well, you talk about fun. How about defensively having some fun? Look at the range to the glove side. And now you got to turn and finish the play off. And then there’s Big Bob. Nope. Judge carves it into left and Beavers makes another great catch going back to Rob Goldman. Sprinting in to take away a hit from Judge. They’ll leave it to Beaver. And that one is going to be knocked down by Durban. Goes to second for the out. What a play. That looked destined for left field. Well, that was a meatball and Julio makes the catch. Allowed out number two. No fly zone in full effect in Houston. Go gadget arm out there. Ground ball chopped. Jacob Wilson gets to it. The jump throw over to first and Wilson impressing here at PNC Park in front of mom and dad. That’s right. Jay Willie senior loves it. And this roller will not find a hole. Whit behind the bag on one hop gets Barger off the hands. That looked like it was about to find a hole in center field. Bobby Wit Jr. cut it off. Mo Smith fly ball left field. Well strike and clouds. Beavers gets up to get it at the wall for the first down. That’s a Beaver retriever right there cuz he robbed that one. Sandy Kofax the greatest left-hander they’ve ever seen is Clayton Kershaw. Teodosio. Oh, bring it back. Well, that’s a number of times already in his young career. Incredible play. Incredible play. Pertomo smothers it. Long throw. Got him. Heraldo Perno. What a play. Deep in the hole. The full dive. Plant throw. Got him. Coming in from left field. Diving stopped by Tor. Perfect feed. Got him. Let’s check out the T-Mobile coverage cam on this one. Looks like Torque came to play today. RBI knock in the bottom of the first. Beautiful backhand dive. Perfect feed to Kar Montero on the run. You can’t teach that one, Dan. Not many first basemans can throw that with touch like that. Sharply to third. Abanz to Bayz. Tigers turn two. Our buddy Johnny Kane was talking about Andy Abanz taking all the reps at third over there with left-handed pitching and he makes a beauty right there. Right side Nunes. What a pick. Unbelievable pick by Nasim Nunees to get the lead runner. He has been spectacular at second base today. This kid’s range is incredible. always on time with his footwork right there and he didn’t see it but he gets up throws a strike to CJ and a quick exchange by CJ. My goodness. Goes. This one is hitting to right field and a sliding grab is made by Toffman. A chance to double up at first and he throws a strike. Double play. Nice job by Mike Tauman first with the catch and then the throw on the money. Boy, this is just an outstanding effort and he realizes he’s got some time. Jackson Merrill golfs this one right field, but Tuckman again the head first slide as he makes the play and right has had an up and down year with these catches. Maybe a gold glove in his future. Two really good catches on sinking line drives. one to his right. Little chopper toward third. Aronado bare hand. Quick release and they got him. What a play. He is still incredible. Aronado puts out a Brewers threat in the fourth inning with a great play on a dribbler to third. Fly ball gap right center field and Victor. Double him up. Double him up at second. Victor Rob makes the catch and that is the ball game. The biggest series win in a lifetime for the Mariners. Victor Robé strap a cape on that man. There’s a one-1 from Yates to Chapman in the air left field side in foul ground. Mooky next to the net. He made the play. And what a sense of timing to know where the ball needs to go after this miraculous catch and then to keep your baseball sense and clock and go, I need to get this to second base. Had him reaching for it. And here comes Rave with a nice sliding catch in the heel of his glove. Bobbled and secured it in his bare left hand. What a play from John Ray in center. That was a circus act for the first out in the third inning. Highf fly ball left side. Long run for everyone. Oh, what a play by Cababayro for out number two. Outstanding over the shoulder. Some depth to this one. Jacob Young. He had it. And he dropped. He got it on the fly. He caught it. It fell out of his glove off his knee and stayed with it. What a play by Young. He leaped out of the fence off his glove, batted in the air with his throwing hand and grabbed it out of the air with his glove. Unbelievable. Two-1 driven to center. Jacob Young. Got it again. Right at the orange line and it stays 32 on another gem by our center. This might be the catch of the year. Oh yeah, he took that one away.
