MLB Now | Steve Phillips SHOCKED Cal Raleigh’s 58th HR lead Seattle Mariners sweep Houston Astros
the Mariners and the Astros Sunday Night Baseball and the Mariners go for a sweep of the series. Uh, and they got it. And um, I’m starting to believe that this momentum that they’ve garnered right now is real. Like the starting pitching that went from first in baseball last year to 17th in baseball this year looks like what they did a year ago. They’re starting to settle back in. Although Brian Woo’s health a little bit of a question mark right now uh coming out of the game the other day, but Logan Gilbert six innings yesterday and he kind of made it look easy against the Astros lineup, the the Yordon Alvarez lineup. Uh and um so they win again. They win 7-3 yesterday. Uh and JP Crawford’s grand slam of the second inning sort of put them out in front and they never really looked back. But the Mariners are playing some great baseball. They sweeped the Astros and went in tied and they made a statement in Houston, taking all three games. Uh, and Cal Raleigh homer again 58 now on the season. Uh, this is a team that is really rolling and they’re starting to believe in themselves. I mean, they have a four-ame lead because of the the tiebreaker, right? So, like that’s when when you look at how important that sweep was was not only just if they won the series, they had a one game. No, it was two game. But then you add in the sweep. I mean, it’s it’s ballgame. That’s the way I look at it. Last 28 days, too. I mean, you got look at this. Hory Palanco has got 15 doubles, five homers, 19 RBI. You have Cal Raleigh with 15 and nine like nine homers, 15 RBI in that time in that span. And Julio Rodriguez, six homers, 21 RBI. They have in the last month at least seven, eight guys with over 12 RBI on the team. Right. So, they have done it with just a ton of dudes. And that’s what I’m looking at going, man, can they can they continue this? Yes, they can. Why? Because the pitching is so fantastic. And you have some quality defense that they’re playing at times. You also have Cal Raleigh. I mean, this guy has been just an absolute beast, hitting his 58th home run of the year yesterday. Um, did you see the other night when he broke the the Mariners record? It was in the uh the bullpen of the Houston Astros and the Astros bullpen catcher gave it to him the ball right right after the game. Like that’s some good stuff right there. Um and to me when you look at this team, they got a lot of, you know, great players that are playing at an elite level right now. Uh but it’s a whole team that’s playing together and playing confidently. And especially when you go on the road to Houston right in front of Addie Bates’s face, they get the sweep. Yep. Yeah. I mean, this was this was a statement made. No question about that. And, you know, we talked about their they won 14 of their last 15 games. And we we talked earlier about how the Guardians were 20 and six in the last 26. They were averaging 4.4 runs per game, while Seattle is averaging close to seven runs per game. What? 6.8 runs per game in this streak that they’re on. The offense has come to life. You know, Suarez had struggled for a while, but then he broke out with a four- hit game. Uh, and JP Crawford, too. JP, right? JP Crawford has has, you know, starting to drive the ball. Dominic Canon had a five hit game one day uh for them. You talked about Palanco what he’s done. Randy Rosena, too, is a really good postseason player. Uh, and then you they you got the big dumper and what he’s done. And so, uh, it was a real statement made and one that that I thought, you know, I know that I thought Seattle had a little better roster right now because of all the injuries to Houston, but I didn’t know with the experience factor that they could, it just felt like they weren’t playing the way they should have been playing, and now they are. And so, this was a really big move forward for them. And especially against head-to-head with the Astros, uh, pretty amazing performance on their part, uh, overall. And so, you know, the thing about them is they’re a well- balanced team. Uh they’ve got starting pitching. Uh they’ve got really good arms in that bullpen. And you think about Brash and and and Ferguson they picked up from Pittsburgh from the left side. And obviously Muno’s late in the game. Uh we saw the diving catch that Robas made. What a what a I mean, he had just come off the suspended list. uh and uh because he had some issues on that rehab assignment down at Triple A and and uh uh so he comes off the suspended list, but he played some defense like out of nowhere making catches. Uh they’re a really solid all-around good team. Yeah, they are. Victor Rob is a center fielder, gold glove caliber center fielder. Uh playing right field. I mean, that’s huge, especially when they go on the when they stay at home right at at uh T-Mobile Park. like you got to cover some ground out there in that outfield. It’s a a vast, you know, outfield on there. I’m looking at this thing going, “Okay, if they get to the postseason, who has the most complete roster now that we’re we’re into, you know, late September? They’d have to be at the top of the list.” Yeah. You know, there’s so many teams that are playing poorly heading into it. So, the Guardians are redot right now. The Tigers certainly are not. Uh, the Red Sox, but prior to that weren’t great. The Yankees have been playing much better. The Blue Jays are playing okay, mediocre, but the Mariners have maybe the best, most well-rounded roster of anybody in the American League right now. Um, and now their offense can disappear every once in a while, right? Uh, and their starting pitchers can get touched up. And losing Woo, uh, if Brian Woo is not available, that changes a lot how you think about that rotation for them. Uh, and so that’s going to be critical to see that he’s okay because he was great before he had to come out of that game. Uh, and he’s been great all season long. And so that’s another one that you need an answer on. But, um, I’ll tell you, I I’ve always had mixed emotions about Seattle. I just didn’t like them a lot. But, man, they’re growing on me hard right now. Especially Gilbert made it look easy yesterday. I mean, he’s just coming straight over the top. Like, just here here it is with a golf ball in his hand. I mean, his hands are huge. It comes out. It’s like Lee Smith throwing back in the day. Like we we would hit BP off him when I got drafted by the Giants and he’s like he’s yelling at you and you’re like that that that’s a golf ball. That’s what it looks like in Logan Gilbert’s hand. That’s what you’re trying to hit. And his ability to go out there and shove in a in a in a pressure cooker, right? Like maybe maybe not as pressure filled as Saturday night for George Kirby. Um, but you look at that and you you find out maybe a little bit of I would say the positive is that they came out of it hearing that Brian Woo it’s a minor pec strain, right? I mean, it’s not like something that’s going to be severe. So, that’s huge. Uh, in the situation u when they go home, this is the part where I do hesitate. Do they want to go on the road or they want to be at home? Right. I they always want to be at home with the fan base there. I mean, that place can get loud, too. But, um, Auin Suarez is at home at T-Mobile Park since the trade has just been awful. Yeah, awful. He has eight hits. Eight for 83. Now, we’ve talked about this all off season, Steve, how awful it is to hit there at times. That’s a part of the reason why like Cal Raleigh for me was a MVP candidate no matter what because he is doing things at home at T-Mobile Park. Forget that he has 36 homers there. Stuff that you’re going, “Wait, he has what?” And in a place that he can’t you can’t hit like you’re not supposed to be able to hit. He’s doing it right there. But they need AO Suarez to hit at home to finish this off and get things going into the postseason because they need him. Yeah, I’m with you. I think that that um playing at home does feel like an advance. Listen, there’s 21 games over 500 at home, three under on the road. And so, home has certainly been been good to them. Uh, and that fan base, too. They’re hungry uh for playoff baseball. They’re hungry uh to advance. All right. So, they win uh and sweep the Astros, take over a three-game lead now in the AL West, and uh they’re now the two seed overall in in the American League. And so, they actually would get a buy in that first round, believe it or not, with how much they’ve advanced moving forward. All right, coming up the morning matchup.

Go M's – Lets show the world what we can be 🙂
Astros fan here. CONGRATS TO THE MARINERS!!! You bent us over and spanked our bottoms red!!! No Diddy! You are FUN TO WATCH. When I can say that about most teams but not my own, it's ok. Baseball is all about patterns and coming and going and streaks and slumps and CHEMISTRY. The Astros have no "Rizz," as the kids say. Mariners may win the World Series. They are absolutely PUMPED UP, and this sweep is testament to chemistry over prestige. I'm only watching the A's series to see the A's, lol, and maybe some of our young talent getting pitches and at bats. I will be rooting for the Mariners to win the WS. I will buy myself a Woo Jersey, a Polanco Jersey, and a Dumper Jersey. This team is SOOOOO EXCITING to follow! Same for the Brewers, Phils, Padres, Tigers, Blue Jays, and even the Guardians! I predict a WS of SEATTLE VS MILWAUKEE. BET ON IT.
What is this….? The content sounds real but also looks AI generated.
I know this isn't my Dad's Mariners where we all know who are the Ace pitchers and we all know who the top 4 dudes in the line-up are (obviously other than Cal.. but when was the last time your catcher was your power hitter).
What the world needs now is more great baseball with family's attending , friends laughing, good sportsmanship and fun.
