WILL BRAEDEN COOTES MAKE THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS?

[Music] So, there has been a new talking point in the Vancouver market, and I wanted to bring it up here on this YouTube channel. Just get into an old classic Lego Rocks 99 question style video. Simple question here. Braden Coots, Vancouver Conucks 15th overall pick in the 2025 NHL entry draft. Does he make the team or not? Should he make the team? Can he make the team? Let’s dive into it here and more. So, Braden Cous has made a lot of headlines the past few days in the preseason game against Seattle in the prospect showcase games against Seattle and throughout various training camps and the blue versus white scrimmage that we saw. Braden Coots is a guy who based off of everything we have seen about him the past few weeks has been a lot better than maybe most Kucks fans, myself included, have anticipated. 18 years old, 6 feet 185, right-handed center. Not really the biggest guy out there, but somebody with some incredible smarts, very good hands, and an agitative quality that makes him so likable. This guy is not afraid to go in there and fight the fight, to make a play, to get involved in the action, to rub up against other guys on the boards, whether it’s his own teammates in the scrimmages or the other prospects or other Seattle Kraken players. Braden Coots has shown off extraordinarily well, and now we’re starting to see this idea pop up that he could potentially make the team. It’s been talked about on Sportsnet. They asked this on Zakaris and Price. Let’s go over some of the discourse surrounding this Coots topic and what fans all over social media are saying about his potential of making the team. Let’s start out with this. So, Carrison Price, do you want to see rookie first round pick Braden Coots make the team? 1,200 votes. 51% of them say yes. 49% say no. A bunch of the replies go out there and say, “I voted no because I think one more year in junior would be ideal for bulking up, but damn, if the kid keeps looking this good, I’d happily say yes.” Another reply says, “Do I think he’ll make the team?” Yeah. Should he be on the NHL team at the moment? No. Let him get the time he needs in the WHL. I don’t think he should be rushed into the league. Another reply says, “Yes, play between six to nine games if he has a good camp. A, he fills a need. And B, he buys time to find another center. And then there are a bunch of other replies varying yes and no. And yes and no. It is right down the middle. I’ll tell you this about Braden Coots. Nobody was asking whether or not he’d make the team 2 weeks ago before training camp began. We are just starting to see now that, hey, this guy is like really, really good. unexpectedly over-the-top level good for what a young 18-year-old prospect should be or at least what they usually are in the Vancouver Conucks organization. Obviously Hughes and Patterson and you know these guys were a little bit different. They were top prospects but Braden Coots 15th overall that’s a really big surprise we are seeing out of camp for him to be this good this early. This was also posted on the Aranox sub by Vex Destroy06. Peter Nedvet was the last player to make his debut for the Conucks at 18 years old in 1990. Could Braden Coots be next, although it’s too early to tell, there’s been hype surrounding Coots over the last couple of weeks as he is very much impressed at both Kuck’s training camp and preseason. After 35 years, could he be the next rookie to play the season after his draft year? What do you think? Side note, both Coots and Ned are drafties of the Seattle Thunderbirds. Now, uh I don’t necessarily know if that’s 100% right. I know there were some other Vancouver Conucks players that got small stints at 18 years old. I think Ryan Kesler ended up ending the season with the Vancouver Conucks in his 18year-old. But all nitpicky factchecking aside, there are some other replies over here that I think we have to dive into as well. Displaced Nova Scotian said, “I’ll be gobsmacked if Coots makes his debut this season.” Ned Ved was a second overall pick who had 145 points in the dub in his draft year. Coots, while I’m optimistic about him, was a 15th overall pick. They usually need more time. Another reply says, “Unless he has a Ryan O’Reilly type of camp, he was a second round draft pick and he made the ABS. obviously different players and highly unlikely, but our forward depth isn’t stacked. And if it was any year to crack the top 12, it might be this. Another reply says that the Avalanche were coming off a season where they were dead last in the West, so O’Reilly wasn’t really going up against the strongest competition for a roster spot. Not that the Canucks have a cup contending roster, but it’s certainly deeper than that ABS team would have been going into training camp. And I will probably say that maybe the Wings are pretty fine. Kane, De Bras, Besser, Garland, Hoglander, Sherwood is a very nice, not the best, but it’s a nice top three lines worth of wingers, but center’s kind of weak. You assume Atuatu is there, Teddy Bluger will be there, and then you have yourselves Filiped and Person. I mean, if there is any here, a forward spot can be available for the taking in Vancouver. Would it not be this year? Who knows? Let’s scroll over into some other commentary here about Braden Coots. It would be to his detriment if he made the NHL right away. He isn’t an NHLER until he fills out. He has the NHL shot and IQ, but that means nothing if he’s injured because he can’t take contact from grown men. It would be repeating the same mistake that Benning made with Vertan and McCann. Coots needs to play another season in the WHL and most of the season in the A. rushing him into the NHL is not good for his development and will burn years off of that ELC. Now, this bodess into a discussion as to whether or not the nine game sample would be possible for Braden Coots. I honestly think at this point, while it will be to somebody else’s detriment, if Braden Coots makes the team, because of course, if he makes the team, if he plays, then he’ll be in the roster in the lineup when somebody else would have normally been in. He’ll be stealing someone else’s spot, whether that’s Assassin or whomever. If he does end up cracking the team and getting nine games, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised just based off of how he has built himself up over the past few weeks reputationwise on the ice. You’re seeing what he does against various levels of competition. He has looked so good that I think at this point it’s starting to become a lot more likely that he ends up playing a small sample of games beyond the preeason. Whether or not he looks amazing in those games remains to be seen. He had a great game against Seattle. Will that continue in the next Conucks preseason games to come? And if that does continue, maybe the 51% that voted on that SNP poll will be correct. But is it the same mistake that Benning made with McCann and Veran? Those guys were drafted 11 years ago. Jake Veran no longer in the NHL. He didn’t really have much success outside of the limited production he provided for the Vancouver Conucks. And now Jared McCann happens to be a very good 60 70 point player for the Seattle Kraken. Took him a while to get there, but he is there nonetheless. It’s just for Vancouver. These guys weren’t really anything compared to what they were supposed to be. Jared McCann was taken before David Posterno and Jake Foran was taken before Eers and William Knander. So caliber of talent be damned. Vancouver got totally screwed over there. But was it because of Benning? Was it because of the rushing them into the NHL that cuffed up their development and prevented them from becoming the stars that we thought they would be? Is there a similar path with Braden Coots? Honestly, thinking about it now, like the Vancouver Conucks haven’t had much success drafting out of the CHL the past few years. I mean 2013 you had Bo Horvat which was fine but then you also had Hunter Shanker and that was like oh he’s going to be so good and then he didn’t end up becoming anything. Then you think about some of the other players that actually became good players for Vancouver Besser Patterson Hughes Demco all out of Sweden or the USA collegiate system and all the other CHL guys. I mean aside Gon Breezeb there isn’t really anybody else that had a significant impact with the Vancouver Conucks cough cough Olio Levy Cole Lynn Veran McCann is Braden Coots going to break that mold I hope for goodness gracious that he ends up doing that but will it be this upcoming season or in a season from now? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Does he make the team? Does he get nine games? Does he play 82 games? or does he just get sent back down and we wait until next year for him to become a Vancouver Canuck or the year after that? Who knows? He could go to the AHL. It’s possible. 1. The answer is no he won’t even make it till the end of September. He will be back in the children’s league very soon. Looking good vs 2 of the worst teams in the NHL doesn’t matter.

  2. Question to fans. Does anyone remember any of those other players first year? This kid to me is a much better skater and seems to fit in already. I think you play him a few games then send him back down to dominate and work on his scoring. Did not think this at first but I think we got a steal. Give him another season in Jr's and I think we have our number two. Others had said it that he would be our number two at the draft. Just needs to be a little stronger as does Willander.

  3. if he outplays other players, why wouldn't he make the team? so you pick the players that are playing worse than him to make the team? LMAO.
