Jayson Tatum says he cried for two hours after tearing his Achilles, wondering if Boston would trade him, if his career was over, or if he would lose all of his endorsement deals
Imposter syndrome is real, no matter what level of success you achieve. We are the harshest on ourselves.
Just a reminder that Achilles tears are no joke. I just hope he can come back close to 100%
Fans about to clown him watch
Nah….we can probably hook him up with an endorsement from a tree company, right?
It’s a rough injury and his idol was never the same after it, he probably is under great stress now. Wish him the best and fuck the Celtics
Extremely fair response to suffering a very serious injury that has the possibility of leading to all of those things.
Spiraling like that is super relatable to anyone that’s had a bad injury.
Dude was worried his Ruffles deal was gone
I mean, they did pull the Superman movie x Tatum commercial, so he did lose at least 1 endorsement de
Im Still crying after 2.5 years post achillest surgery. I didnt have millions or that kind of medical staff he has. But, I hope he keeps positive and does the work to get back, its tough. I hit a deep depression and not being able to play basketball anymore has been hard to get over.
EDIT: Just want to say, Reddit can be a garbage dump and so much crap going on right now, but I appreciate this little room we have here to bond over injuries haha for real, its sometimes good to know youre not alone. Appreciate yall!
Uncle Dennis can hook him up
After Jokic and Wemby, Tatum is the least likely guy to get traded.
Full story is a pretty sweet one focused on him and his sons and his mom. Sure it’s a pr piece (that’s all People does)
Good thing he won a championship already
Kobe would’ve cried for 3
After Nico traded Luka for no reason, I’d be petrified too as a player. You can be gone like that
Jamal Murray said a similar thing when he had his ACL tear. He said that he thought that they would trade him and needed the owners and Moach to convince him that they are there for him and that everything is going to be alright. This just shows that no matter how good you are, doubt still creeps in when you encounter an obstacle.
It’s kinda sad really to see such good players feel that way, and I wish Tatum a speedy recovery
Not a NBA first team calibur player in his prime but I did tear my achilles.. it sucks. But at least he can cry on Ella Mai’s shoulders
The amount of PTSD Nico caused with that trade needs to be studied.
I also cried for two hours
Understandable though, pretty sure Hali expressed similar thoughts aswell
Starting to like this guy more
If the worst case scenario came true and his career was over, I think he’s done such a good job on the PR front in terms of image that he’d have one of the easiest pivot to Christian influencer possible.
I tore my right achillies playing field hockey one week before Tatum. When he fell over, I got an intense sense of deja vu.
I’m up to a medium walk now, but I’m limping towards the end of each day.
I’m by no means a pro- athlete. If I was, I could tell that I’d still be a long way before I could get onto a court.
Nevertheless, and although it’s been a long time, I can feel the improvement coming every week, and I don’t feel like there’s any problem that I’m going to get back to being to close to where I was.
Props to him for being vulnerable and sharing it with the world. Can’t be easy being a public figurehead like him
I know people love to clown on Tatum but this is honestly so valid and it’s nice to see he’s comfortable sharing some of his emotions and inner thoughts like this.
really appreciate Tatum being open and honest about something like this. I’m sure we’ve all gone through our own trials and tribulations and hard times, and it’s great to see someone like JT speaking on his. Not a Celtics fan in the slightest but wishing him nothing but the best
Such drama
first of all, fuck boston.
second of all, i get it. injuries suck ass.
Tearing your achilles sounds horrific and these concerns are perfectly reasonable.
I don’t think that Boston will trade him and I hope he has a great recovery.
Obv I don’t care for the Celtics, and generally don’t feel bad for millionaires that have the world on a string.
But man, on a human level I hope the best for Tatum. This recent spate of Achilles injuries in all sports (Najee Harris in the nfl this wkend) is crazy and just robs us all of the player’s presence and talent.
Honestly, I have a lot of respect for how open Tatum has been around his injury.
Tore my ACL in spring 2021 and wasn’t able to get back to a comfortable level of playing ball until last year. Broke my finger in November last year, sidelined again. Started playing again in March of this year and severely sprained my wrist late March. Back to the court by late May and suffered a severe ankle sprain on my left foot, went to the emergency room and haven’t been able to walk without discomfort since. To say this has been one of the worst runs I’ve had would be an understatement but I dont get paid to play and im still in a slight depression from not being able to play ball. I couldn’t even fathom what it must feel like for PRO athletes when the sport is all they know and want to participate in. Hope he gets better and honestly would prefer he just sit out the season.
Could care less of his endorsements that’s why he’s so vanilla. Yes I am a hater.
The endorsements coming to mind, good lord
Spiralled like this after mine and I just play rec league soccer and flag football, can’t imagine what it’s like when you’re a top 5 basketball player in the world
He think Boston gonna give him the IT treatment
Awful to watch that happen just as he was going off and proving everybody wrong. I guess it never happens at a good time but damn. I felt so bad for him.
As a big Tatum hater I must say this is very humanizing and I hope he makes 100% recovery
Rooting for his health big time
Hard way to realize you are simply a commodity and how quickly one thing can make use expendable to those that praise you
Can’t blame him and be terrified. Look at what the team did to IT after he got injured playing while his sister passed away.
You got the bag and a chip. You’re fine, just walk it off.
This mentality is exactly why Kerr didn’t play him
The ghost of Isaiah Thomas was in his house that night
My son says Tatum the J Cole of the League. This only confirms that.
Nobody is trading for a guy with an injured achilles until they see him back on the court after rehab but he probably wasn’t being rational in the moment
Not a Tatum fan but hope he comes back and is remotely as good as he was, some guys do but most guys don’t
Kobe would be so disappointed
Celtics propaganda will tell you he was already under the knife 2 hours after it happened
it’s not like he’s made hundreds of millions before or anything. wah wah
