Going Home: Kiefer Sherwood

[Music] Every summer I feel like we’re starting at a higher point in in my body and what we’re able to put out. You know, we’re pretty strategic. We always talk before summer like what do we want to focus on? And you know, we always pick right back up where we left off. Uh I like the mental side of it, too. And you just by yourself and just just grinding, [Music] [Applause] you know, he wants to be better. He wants to be more explosive and really he just wants to make sure he’s staying healthy out there. That’s kind of the most important thing. but he realized what he had to do to be successful in hockey. So, he gets to use what he does in the gym and uh put that to a good use. When it comes to the off season, do you have to really take a big break to kind of reset your body and actually give it that space to reset? You know, everyone always takes a couple weeks off from from the season. this year because of everything uh being, you know, with the wedding and and the honeymoon and the travel in July, we uh I kind of only I only took two weeks off after the season because I didn’t want to take too much time off. You know, you incorporate a couple breaks throughout to give your mind and body a little break. People ask me, it’s always like, “How’s your body?” My body felt great. It’s it’s, you know, it’s it’s it’s the emotional investment inside of things. And I think that’s also goes to show that um the preparation that um you know Brady’s put me through that gets the gets my body uh ready for for all that. I feel like the the first the first half of summer was kind of felt a little longer cuz you’re you’re in the gym more and you’re not on the ice as much and then um you know like when once we start to tailor it down and scale it back and then that’s where I think the fun starts because you start to I think invest more on the ice and feel better on the ice and um yeah like like I said put it all together. I feel like we we all know that we have unfinished business and you get so close and put in so much work during the season and then tonight been get a chance, you know, uh to compete in the playoffs obviously and two years ago obviously the team being in the playoffs like got a taste of what it’s like and obviously last year was a bit underwhelming in terms of that perspective. So I feel like everyone’s got a little bit more of a chip on our shoulder and kind of understands the importance of getting back and then also too just such a long summer. Um, you know, you dedicate so much time and effort in the season with everyone and then and you’re you’re out the first weekend and just watching all the playoffs on TV just sucks. So, uh, I think everyone’s excited for for redemption, I guess. All right. You ready? It’s your time to shine, Bubba. Come on. Okay, he tries to come out here and throw the ball and see how many times he can catch it. And he’s like so disappointed cuz he thinks he’s not athletic if he doesn’t catch the ball every single time. I’m like, it might be your throw. Oh, he missed it. That was his chance. He’s a completely different person on and off the ice. So, it is funny to like see both sides because people see this like passionate like fiery guy on the ice and at home he’s just as passionate but like way more mellow and like has this sweet soft side that you obviously see with Luca. actually grew up allergic to dogs. So, it’s not something that I was used to. And uh it’s kind of funny at the beginning of our relationship. I just me being me was like, it’s going to be me or the dog, you know, like because my allergies were were so bad when I was around him, you know. It’s funny how things come to be cuz now I you know, he’s like he’s like our kid, you know, and he’s got so much personality and wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s a game that we’ve created this summer where one hop, you know, I I feel like the quarterback and he’s the wide receiver. He’s ready. You want another one? All right. All right. This one’s got to be in the end zone. Yes. [Music] Oh, okay. I want to know Young Keeper. Young Keeper. Young Keeper in Columbus. In Columbus. What was he like? We It’s always been It’s always been about hockey for us. We had like a little shooting area in our in our basement. And so that’s where a lot of the the memories and the the I guess the fire started kind of that that’s kind of where the competitive start competitiveness started between me and my brother. Um and just trying to push each other to to get better. But we were just just a typical you know AAA like travel family, you know, hockey family. Say hi to Vancouver. Say hi. Say hi. He’s tired now. try to mix a couple breaks in throughout summer just to give your your mind and body a little bit of breather. Um, but now it’s it’s it’s full go. The summer sees are picking up here. Couple jacket guys, couple local guys. Nice to see Elvis out in that. And you got Carelli who’s in Boston. And then Rosavic. Um, some of the younger guys too that are in college now. [Applause] [Applause] Uh Benny Eves, uh he’s strength and he’s still coaching Cleveland. Uh he’s really good. You go back uh to to Miami. He was a our strength coach in my when I was in college for a few for a few years and um he was always a great mind to pick up and kind of work on the skill stuff and try to translate. Uh he came up with drills. I’m trying to obviously always work on on the release and I think too as you get older you want to um get better on the net. That’s something I’m trying to focus on this year in the summer. Uh, a lot of the goals are scored now, uh, in front and always have been, but I think if you can be more dangerous there, then pick up the leads and stuff and then, uh, just try to work on the, you know, fast twitch and quick reaction stuff. I think getting it up quick and just so it’s muscle memory. You don’t have to think in the game. Yeah, when it’s when it that puck drops or the skate starts, it’s we, you obviously want to want to get better and you want to make the other guys running better. So, I think you owe it to everyone to give it your all and compete. And then hopefully the younger guys can take that um little edge, I guess, that they see some of the guys here skate with to to their teams, too. [Music] [Music] We actually played on our first team together ever. So like when we were 6 years old, we played together and then we played on like all our youth teams growing up. Welcome back to Columbus dinner. I guess keeper had this like circle. We jo like and that used to be my brand before the white gloves. It was a jo. Yeah, it was. It really was. You and your brother. Yeah. I don’t know what my dad was thinking. When did the white gloves kick in? Shortly after that? Yeah. I used to be so self-conscious of it. They try to hide it from Yeah. Yeah, cuz I was like just like in the locker room here. I’m like, “Dude, Mhm. bring this out.” We used to find them like all over the house. Yeah. Like when my like sock draws, I’m like, “What is this?” Okay, but we’ll be back. Is there going to be someone up top? No. Are you going to let me go? Are you going to try to show off? I’ll just I’ll turn it when I’ll turn it when I need to turn. Yeah. Is it hot enough? I don’t think it’s hot enough. I don’t want to crowd her space. So, I’ll let her do her thing. We do we do try to cook a lot. Like we’re I was say, do you go out for food much? We do. Yeah. But I would say we definitely cook more than we we go out. I said the other day it’s the first time where I’m like, let’s go. like, you know, usually you want the summer to be a little longer and you want um a couple more weekends or whatnot, spend time with your friends and family, but uh we had a pretty chaotic July and um and but even like in July, I’m like I miss Van like you know ready to go back. So I don’t know for us too like you put you do so much like you’re you’re with the guys the whole season you know and then all a sudden now you’re like training on your own and skating on your own and um so for us I was like let’s go like I’m I’m ready. We got to start packing up our apartment now and shipping our cars out, but that stuff will be easy. Okay. Yeah. Moment of truth here. Oh, see when you got it, you got it. It’s perfect, right? Oh, that’s humor. All right. I didn’t do too bad. Like this when you have a whole segment on cooking, you better deliver, you know. Okay, so this is a good question for you. What was what was Kefu like when he was younger? Oh man, he was good. He was uh was very smart. Uh yeah, always just loved hockey. Just like theme for it. Always about his business, especially when it was uh time for hockey weekends. He was he was ready to rock. So this is this is actually the head chef. This is he he actually dictates what we eat. Um he knows this is where he gets his steak rinsed after we eat so that he can have a couple pieces. But I just want that to happen. So we’re just both suous chefs. You’re the head chef. Even like in July I’m like I I miss Van like you know I’m ready to go back. This time around, we’ve uh we’re kind of really looking forward to getting back out there. It’s always exciting to like open up a new chapter and experience a little bit. [Music]
