And we are live here on the LI Sports Network for a junior varsity matchup between KPC and Smithtown. It’s the Bulls and Knights for their first JV matchup of the year. My name’s Kevin Broader, joined by Wally Mitchell on the camera as we are ready for the opening puck drop here the Alli Sports Network. [Applause] The Bulls are always a favorite to be one of the best teams no matter what division they’re playing in here in the Suffach County High School Hockey League, but KPC is no slouch either. Be interesting to see who can walk a win with their first walk away, excuse me, with their first win of the season. Got one more game after this as well. Another junior varsity matchup that that’s between the T-Irds and the West Icelip Lions. I’ll be on at 920 approximately. West Icelip already 1-0 in the junior varsity division. The T-Irds the opposite falling 0 and one in their first matchup. as we get set and ready to go here at the rinks. And we are live. Instantly pushed into the offensive end for the Bulls. They’re usually on top of being a very good team, a very offensive team. You don’t see too many Bulls games where they don’t put up multiple goals. Turnover potentially towards the slot for the Knights. They slide it out in front and it’s denied by Bentock. Good job from him to make sure there’s no early opportunity. Knights still buzzing around. Have numbers down low. A centering pass popped up high. Held in off the boards. That’s John Burke down there doing the heavy lifting. [Applause] Buck put out in front and past the blue line. Now Burke will go back for it. About a minute gone by here in the first period. Jake Hayes applying the pressure. Comes back to the blue line. Can’t get it away from Kevin Schwarz. Walks up the wall. Has a player behind him. Should switch the ice. Good play to bat it down. Aiden Melendez puts it in deep as we can also take a look at our starting goalenders. If I can pull that up. Technology eludes me sometimes. I’ll just use my eyesight that’s fading every day. Eley will be starting out for the Knights. And on the other end, it’s Alexander Vula for the Bulls. John Ferraro shimies down the right side, puts it out in front. Bulls looking for a early goal. Ferraro gets it back. Another shot and a pad save. KPC looking for the clear and will tap it past the blue line. Quickly to deny is Melendez. He’ll put the Bulls right back into the offensive end. Puck loose down below the goal line. Some early action for either side. Matthew Smith looking for a saucer pass. Gets it onto the backhand of Castanzo. Looks to return it, but too many Bulls were there. Too many sticks on the ice. They break up the pass. Another rush for Smith down. Centering feet off the backand. Two men out in front. A shot taken. Better save made. Campi DD pass intercepted KPC. Can they create anything off of it [Applause] Coyle? Good move. KPC with some good ozone time right now. All of it coming from Koy on the wrap attempt. Tries to shove it short side [Applause] out in front. Good back check. That was Luke Jarrett coming back and ties up a stick. No shot to be had for the Knights. [Applause] Fast pace as well on either side. Really wanted to slow down for any of these faceoffs. Coyle back to it. pulls around and feeds the back post. No one home. Kak will play at the length of the ice and we will get an icing. 1116 to play in the first period. Wish I could give you some stats on these teams, but like I said at the beginning, it’s their very first game. Nothing to read off. It’s all blank besides everyone obviously playing in their first game. So you can give a tally in that department. Face off coming in the left circle. Chula having a quick conversation with the referees. And I think there’s something wrong with his equipment potentially. So, we may need a goalie substitution here. And I think we’re going to get a followup, a timeout. I don’t know if that’s going to be a charge timeout, but we’ll take a quick break here on the Alli Sports Network. So it looks like we will restart the Bulls playing without a goalender for the moment. They do have a goalender sitting on the bench. I couldn’t exactly explain to you why they’re not playing him. Believe it’s Lucas Fosco over there, but he’s just sitting for now as they wait for Vula to get back. So instead, it’s James Ralph playing as a goalender. So early opportunities here for KPC as Ralph isn’t exactly equipped to play the net. Well, Ralph will come out and challenge for it. Maybe the Bulls will play a couple of different goalenders as they’re missing Vula. Harrison Waterman back for it. There’s going to have to be a lot of offense through defense right now essentially. Coyle just looking for something. Playing it on net from range might not be a bad idea as he cuts to the left hand side. Coyle on the backhand looking to slide it out in front. Hits off the apron. KPC now with an opportunity trying to just play it on net. Ralph can’t save it. And that’s an early goal for KPC as we’ll take a replay. I mean really not much to look at. I mean, it’s just Ralph sitting there. He doesn’t have much to do. And uh that’s just a little unfortunate for the Bulls. Vula now back to the net. So essentially Smithtown just playing the game down one- nothing because of an equipment issue. I again I don’t know why Fos couldn’t go in there. as the Bulls go back the other way for a quick shot. That sails a little too high. KPC going back to the attack. It’s Kevin Schwarz down the middle. Schwarz with a shot and it is saved. Rebound still available back on net. Another big rebound and it’s cleared to side. [Applause] [Applause] Bowls do play it down the length of the ice and it will go to another icing. 9:26 left in the period. [Applause] off the draw. Puck comes over to Kak. Pushes it out. Good speed up the ice. KPC forcing it. And another icing is upcoming. Luke Jarrett will come out for the faceoff. Left dot for the Bulls. Forced down below the goal line. Back out into the neutral zone, racing on to it is Campi. Stretch pass forward but then called off sides for Jarrett. So Jarrett for another faceoff this time won cleanly by the Knights. Played back and up the boards. Howard trying to poke it away. Arnold’s couldn’t get on to it. And Ben Stock skating there with him. Another good play for Cam PC, but it gets down to the left circle. Awkward angel shot net off its moorings as well. Don’t get the whistle from the referees just yet. And there it is as they realize 9, excuse me, 824 to play in the period. Again, that one zero goal coming when Justin Ralph was still in net for the Bulls. [Music] Sorry, James Ralph as we’ll get a redo on the faceoff. [Applause] Jake Hayes trying to clear it. Round back fort pressured by three. Knights will turn it over off a bank pass. Steps up and then clears it himself. Here’s James poked away. James back for it once again. ripped off his stick. Some room in the defensive end. [Applause] Smithtown off to a little bit of a slow start and all fans can’t really blame him. They let up a goal without the goalender in the net. Jake Hayes. Hayes on the backhand recovers it almost down low. Actually over skates it just a little bit. [Applause] Rush out for DeFe. He’ll go off for a change. Taken back by Jake Hayes now skating forward. That’s almost a costly turnover. Schwarz is back for it looking for Burke on the backhand. Turns it over to Melendez. Fires wide left. Coyle could be sent into a breakaway. It’s intercept and the Bulls can skate it out. They’ll make a much needed line change as well. Just over 5 minutes to play in the first period. One- nothing to score for the Knights. Burke to the boards. Up and out. Bulls taken in the neutral zone. Ryan skating it down at the goal line looking for options. slides it almost free into the blue paint, but instead it’s Burke. Burke on the back hands. Bulls absorb that pressure. Jarrett maybe on a breakaway. Jarrett the shot saved by Eley. Takes it back and he drew a penalty. Bulls can skate six on five for the time being. gets loose on the half wall and the Knights do touch up. First power play of the game going to belong to Smithtown Hop as they try to even this game up one a piece. You got to be kidding me. Come on. [Applause] Quickly cleared by the Knights on the PK. [Applause] The Bulls just trying to build something up right now. DeFeo, good moves in the neutral zone. Jarrett skating after it, but again just can’t get there in time. And another clear for these Knights on the PK. One minute gone by. Bulls just still looking for some shots. Looking for anything. Ventura fading off to the left. Flips it high. Coyle will take the draw in the right circle. challenges now into the right wing corner. Gets some help from his teammates. Ralph with a hard smack. Puts it around but not out. It’s DeFea onto the puck looking for a centering bid. Denied. Melendez was back for it anyways. It goes the length. Landman with 15 seconds. Bank pass for Burke. Turned over to Hayes. 5 seconds left. Awkward bounce. Shouldn’t be much of a problem. Defa will go behind his own net and kill off the last two seconds. The lone goal of the game coming when non-goalie Justin or excuse me James Ralph was in net for the Bulls after Vula was put into the locker room for an equipment issue. That was with Lucas Fusco sitting on the bench uh apparently dressed for the game but not available for that stretch. I don’t exactly know why, but that’s how we got to this one- nothing score. That’s the only goal of the game. That would uh that would sting definitely for the Bulls to give up their first matchup of the year because you didn’t have your goalie for about 2 minutes. They almost got through it as well. So, let’s see if they can score in this second period. We get our first whistle and face off coming in the neutral zone. Ferraro onto the draw. Wins it back for Cam PC who’ll bank it ahead. Sets up the four check for the Bulls. It’s tipped high off the glass back into center ice. More observations about the game. The Knights have been very, very clean in their own end. And these transitions, they’re making it hard for the Bulls to generate anything odd numbers. As I say that, something could be coming, but once again, it’s shut down by the Knights. Just doing such a great job getting up and down the sheet. Puck now cleared. Turnover by Campy. Tap pass out in front. The backhand. They score two nothing for the Knights. And we’ll get a replay of that here on the LI Sports Network. It’s a turnover from Campi leads into some offense. DeFeo makes it four and three unanswered goals in this period. Just so much speed through the center of the ice. creates a one-on-one, then beats the goalie to the top right corner. Schwarz has Mhler in front of him if he can lead him there. Turnover taken by Bentock. Back and through the legs of Howard. He’ll have to get there quickly. Mhler in pursuit. Howard does get back onto it. ricochets it off the sidewall. Burke touches up, puts it past the blue line, but to no one in particular. KPC still being aggressive on the puck as they swarm three. Can’t hold it in but should go down the length of the ice for an icing. So the Knights will take that. They’ll put some fresh players out. with 656 will hunt for their fifth goal of the game. Already up by four. Coyle looks like he’s out there for the faceoff and it’ll get switched over to the left circle. Coyle on the draw, wins it towards the blue line. Schwarz wastes over and gets to it. Twirled around, passed out in front. No one there. Schwarz quick to respond once more. This time he’ll pinch in to the goal line leading with his left shoulder. That opportunity felt very dangerous for a second. Kevin Schwarz again. Here he goes on his horse to the left circle. Still staying with it. Schwarz over skates it. Coyle’s there for him. Coyle with Burke in the slot. He’ll take it himself. Coyle, a shot save made. So the offensive eruption for KPC has quieted down a little bit here in this second period. They’re still generating plenty of opportunities, but for a couple of minutes, they were finding the back of the net easily. Bulls finally get a clear. Can they get some offense? Bentock trying to get past Waterman. Will play something on net. Now we have a penalty upcoming. This will go six on five for a second for the Bulls. Touched up by the Knights now. And Smithtown will get a much needed power play with 556 remaining in the middle frame. So Jarrett will come in for the faceoff. Has it in his skates. One back and a slap shot will get saved. Jared again on the draw. Back to the blue line. Another long shot from Hayes. This time a pad save and cleared by DeFeo. Pinched into the boards. Loses control. Defao held up right now. That’s going to be a penalty. An ill-advised one from Ferrero to shut down DeFeo. Smithtown doesn’t like it, but that call was clear as day for the referees. So, we go to four on four for a minute and 40. [Applause] Now more room for these dangerous skaters of KPC. Let’s see if they can find a fifth or maybe a better response for the Bulls after blowing a power play opportunity. DeFeo back out into the neutral zone. Could pass it across to Muller. Has him as an option. Poked off his stick. Now Müller will activate. Puts it down low. Defo walking the goal line. Wraps to the other side. still on his backhand trying to feed the line to Burke. Defao is back to make it twoon two, but a trailer man makes it threeon two. Shot taken. Big rebound out into the front. A turnaround shot again from Hayes. Can’t go. Schwarz now recollects. Has Smith there with him. Smith will build the attack all the way from his own goal line, pushing it ahead. Smith dumps it in and goes off for a change. Under two minutes to play here in the second period. KPC look for a centering feed. Kak will get this clear going. Here’s Hayes once again on his horse. Hayes a long range shot. Glove save and we’ll get a pause. Jarrett to the draw against Coyle. One by DeFao. DeFao with a lot of speed. He’s chased by Campi right now. Here’s DeFeo. Fans on the shot. rebound and he gets it in. Defo with blistering pace makes it five nothing Knights. And here it is. Here’s the fan shot. Picks it up. New angle and scores. It’s great reactions from DeFeo. Five nothing now for the Knights. Coyle right back onto the attack. Almost forcing a turnover at the half wall. Burke trying to keep it alive at the blue line. Get some support. It’s wrapped around the boards. About a minute left in this second period. It’s been four goals in this 15minute frame for KPC plus the one they scored when James Ralph was playing net minder. The Bulls have had a lot of turnover problems in their own end, specifically when they try to clear from the center. Kevin Schwarz has time. Tips it off the stick of Coyle into the offensive end. Quickly flipped out by the Bulls. Burke trying to get it ahead. Coyle couldn’t pass get past the screen. For a second I thought that was going to be too many men on Smithtown Hopog, but they got the change correct. 20 seconds left to play in the period. Opportunity out in front. No shot was taken. Wrapped to the other side. Both our options are shut down by KPC. High slot drive on net. Well, wide. 6 seconds left. Puck played the length of the ice. Should be in icing and is. Bulls will clear. 30 seconds left. Ebley just got to stay solid for another 20 and he’ll get his shut out and a victory for his team. Schwarz banks it off the wall. Can’t hold on to it.
