🔴LIVE 🔴Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics /September 23/ Baseball Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25
an AOS matchup on the show. It’s the Houston Astros going up against the Athletics. First pitch coming your way next. Just about ready to roll here. And on the mound in this one, Mitch Spence. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around, and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Okay, all set to go. Here’s the veteran second baseman, Jose Altuve, outside low and we are underway. And another ball. Two balls. No strength right through there for a strike. just off the outside edge and it’s three and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. That’s foul off to the right side keeps the AB going. That one misses. So a lead off walk. A great back and forth and that at bat. He had to lay off some really close pitches and somehow boo. He found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. Now Koreah up to hit. Ball one there. One of the things with Kareah, the impact he makes, not just on offense, but defense as well. a guy who’s won a platinum glove as the best defender in the American League. Probably my favorite note though on Carlos Kareah. He likes to before games go to a regular old batting cage and take BP with his dad. Rudder at first with no outs here. Highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and one gone. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes, slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. So, next up for Houston, Isak Paredus. He’s been on fire at the dish lately. Can make it a fivegame hitting streak with a knock in this one. Paradis hitting third in the lineup and they went out and made a trade for him last season. Altuve the base runner at first with one out. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. Strike three and that’s two in a row. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. And here now is the Astros cleanup hitter, Jesus Sanchez. That one catches the zone. Strike one. In the air, left side. Sodestrom in position, makes the catch and that’s the third out. So, the Astros leave one and now the Athletics offense gets its first shot here. No score. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here with my pal Singi. And on the mound today, Jason Alexander. How about a scouting report on him? Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. And now the center fielder, Lawrence Butler. That’s outside and it’s one and0. Right through there for a strike. One. There’s the strike. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Now the number two hitter Brent Rooker. Just missed. And another ball. Come on, Brent. Next offering is downstairs. [Applause] And ball four, two aboard. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. Batting third, first baseman. First and second, no outs. Nick Curts up next for the A’s on the outside corner. And that is strike one. swing and a miss. There’s that change up. He’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in. Look out for the double play. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. Here’s the left fielder, Tyler Soderstroke. Swinging a foul out of play. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Runners at first and second with one gone. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Applause] Goes down looking. Well, you got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner in scoring position in two strikes. just put the ball in place somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. Keep an eye on this at bat because even though it’s early, it could change the outcome of this game. Look for your pitch and attack it. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. Close but called a ball. And that is ball one. And misses inside. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. and look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Right-hander kick, steals. This one chopped on the ground but foul. Butler over at second. Rooker at first. Two out of the inning. Check swing called strike. That front door slider such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there it’s out of the swing plane that misses. Three and two now. Carlos Cortez in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. on a line and that is the third out of the inning. A strand a couple scoreless after one and welcome back to the ballpark. And now it’s Christian Walker. Come on. Spence back to work. Rolled softly, but that goes foul. He’s a bad ball hitter, so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone, he still might beat you. Not an easy out by any means. swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. Swinks through that one. It’s a strike out. Yiner Diaz will hit next and the first pitch misses for ball one. One out. Base is empty and a swing and a miss. Mike Filillmore, our played umpire, very consistent with his zone. Chris, gets a lot of praise for that. He does, Boog. And I think that with any umpire, you really just want them to be consistent. Filillmore’s a guy that does a good job back there in that way. So, people around the league really appreciate his consistency. Swings and misses. And the count is one and two. to the right side and that chance handled. The throw to first. Two up, two down in the top of the second. Batting seventh, center fielder Jake Meyers. Two down, base is empty. And stepping in is the speedy Jake Meyers. Come on. First offering and it just misses. Swag. Get a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. [Music] This one smoked. Could be trouble. around first heading for two. And that’s a two bagger. He was all over that one. Just a great approach. Looked like that was exactly what he wanted to do with that pitch and right off the bat he knew he was taking that wide turn at first to head for second. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. Stepping in Zack Cole. in there at the knees. Well, they’re looking to get on the board first here after that clutch two out double made this inning interesting. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. Baby, let’s go. Tap foul at the plate. That one almost got him. Second inning here. No score. Hard hit right side. Fires over to first. Third out. One left for Houston. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. And we’re back. Now it’s the right fielder Carlos Cortez. Carlos Cortez. Swung on. Belted. That’s back there. And that one is gone. A gigantic blast. Home run number five on the season. And the A’s jump in front. It’s one- nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. [Applause] With a low 90s fast ball, you have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient. Waited for it. It was like BP all over again. [Applause] And now the shorts stop Terrell Hernese. [Applause] Ball one. No strikes. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. Bottom half of inning number two. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Two and0. Alexander maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, guys, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. And that’s in for a strike. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? They’re all partner. Every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show. Uh so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Got him. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strikeout. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Next up for the A’s, Willie Macyver. And there’s a strike on the outside corner. Here’s your one. That’s a little bit low. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. Next pitch is outside. hammered down the right side but foul. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So a man aboard now with one away. [Music] Batting ninth, second base. Here’s the second baseman, Max Schuman. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. [Applause] Pitch misses. And that’s ball one. Late swing fouled off. Grounded to third. Could be two. Over to Altuve to Walker. And that’s two. The A’s strike first. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Out of the third inning, here’s Mauricio Dubal. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond, and this guy is at the top of the list. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. and you played behind guys and they loved having your speed out there defensively. One of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those elite defenders behind them. Ripped on the ground to second handles throws to first. Leadoff man retired here in the third. Now batting second base Jose Altuve. So the batting order turns over. Jose Altuve up to hit here. Walk to open the ball game. Boo. The one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hittingwise, you can struggle. You can lose your mechanics, but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. One down, base is empty. [Applause] And that’s outside up the middle. Whips it to first on the run. Nicely done for the Owl. Now batting at the designated hitter Carlos Kareah. And here comes Carlos Koreah 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. First pitch just misses. Counts one and now one missed. He looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. Two out. Base is empty. That one misses and it’s 3 and 0. [Music] That’s a walk. Went with the cutter again, but couldn’t find his own. He tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Runner at first with two away. And stepping in for the Astros, Isach Paredus. He’s 0 for one. Way outside and it gets away. So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Well, Boo not exactly making him earn it right now with the walk. And now a wild pitch. He’s going to need to find a way to refocus out there, get back in the strike zone before this unravels on him. fouled off. He was late. Pretty good pitch to take a pass at and a one count. Just not able to square it up. There’s a swing and a drive. This one looks like trouble. Koreah comes in to score. It’s 1-1. Well, we’re starting over again. All tied up. That was maybe even a little off the plate, but no problem getting the barrel to it. Man, he does such a nice job. And that’s what you’re supposed to do with a pitch in that location. So, the go-ahead run in scoring position. Now, the left fielder, Jesus Sanchez. Pitch misses inside. Ball one. the strategy of winning a ball game when you can make that pitcher work a little more, expose himself by throwing pitches, that can be the key to winning perhaps later on. So, good job of extending this inning, getting a knock with two outs to bring the number four hole hitter up. And the slider just misses. Two outs and one in scoring position. Fast ball for a strike and a count. Two on one. And that one goes straight to the back stop. And on the wild pitch, he goes down to third. Have to be really sure you can make it safely to third when you’re in scoring position. And two outs. Got to get that run across. Very important. Does a nice job of reading it. Gets to third base now just 90 ft away. And a foul ball. Paradus at third with two away. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Lined. And that’s a base hit. Ing comes the runner from third and it’s an RBI single. It’s 2-1. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. So, two down. Christian Walker getting ready to hit. Base hit. That was smoked through the infield. And now first and second with two outs. That’s now three hits in a row for the offense. I really like that swing, man. He didn’t just push it the other way through the infield. He drove it that way. And it kind of makes me think he was thinking opposite field as he stepped into the box, got a pitch he liked, and he got it done. Now at the plate, Yiner Diaz. Traffic on the bases with two already in to score. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Though Chris through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Astros two and the A’s won. Set for the bottom of the third. Here’s the center fielder, Lawrence Butler. Lawrence Butler and he deals. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. just missed. [Applause] And that one ripped to left and that’s a base hit. And a good start to the inning. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Worked a walk in his first trip to the plate. Just missed. Nobody out. Runner at first. And a breaking ball misses outside and another ball. Nick Curts in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Tying run is at first here in the last half of the third. Swinging a miss and the count is three and one on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put them in motion. Try to avoid a double play here, boo. And ball four, two aboard. Base knock and now a free pass. This has the makings of a big inning if they can get a couple more quality at bats. And a dangerous hitter coming to the plate. And here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts. [Applause] in there at the knees. That’s strike one. Big at bat right here with an opportunity to do damage. But on the flip side, ground ball, double play, strike out. That could get the inning back under control on the mound to the right side and it gets by him. Headed for the plate. She’ll still come home with it. It’s off the mark and he scores. We are tied at two. Well, he comes through clutch with the RBI single. That was big. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And we’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. just missed. First and second here. No outs. That’s smacked on a line to center. Lays out. Oh, it’s off his glove. Runner around third. On his way to the plate. The throw is offline and he’s in to score. 32. They take the lead. Good two strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. First and second, no outs. Jacob Wilson digs in now. He’s 0 for one and a popup right side. Foul territory. Has room and he makes the catch. Up next for the A’s rightiel. So up next, Carlos Cortez. He’s already homerred here in this one. That one fouled off. Keep it going. Next offering is in for a strike. Action in the pen down there. Hunter Brown, the young right-hander up and throwing. Valdez, the power lefty up as well. Kurts at second. Sodstrom over at first with one away. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. Let’s go. That one way inside. Two on, one out. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. And puts the squeeze on that one. And there’s two away. Now batting shorts stop Daryl Hern. Now it’s the shorts stop. Daryl Hern struck out looking his first time. It’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate. It’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Check. Swing. Went around. Strike one. top of the zone for a called strike. Two really good backto-back sliders now in an 02 count. He’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off. He can go anywhere he wants. [Applause] First and second, two down. Misses. Going to count one and two. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. Two on, two outs. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Well, he hasn’t gotten the result yet, but got to feel pretty confident. Three foul balls in a row. He’s right on this guy. What a stop. Throws from the seat of his pants. What a play. Inning over, but two runs for him and they jump ahead. On to inning number four. It’s the A’s three and the Astros two. All set for the start of the inning. And stepping in for the Astros, Jake Meyers. That one the other way takes it himself. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. Up next for the Astros, right fielder Zack Cole. So digging in, Zack Cole rolled out to second in his first at bat. He’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed, but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game. and a strike on the outside edge. Boo, this guy’s definitely a plus runner, but what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time. Never takes a break. It’s guys like that, even though they don’t have the elite speed, the fact that they’re consistent with it, they make moves on the base paths. DO2 Next offering misses down and away. Swang and a miss. Struck him out now. Five strikeouts for him on the M. Good late cut for the strike out there. That thing really got in on him. And you know, the cutter isn’t really a huge swinging miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. you’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact. But that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. And now Mauricio Dubon, two outs, and that’s a strike. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. There’s the strike. A’s leading by a run. Pitches in the dirt. Two and two. Let’s go and bring him home. And that one missing low and down on strikes. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. Nothing across here this half. We’re midway in the fourth. It’s the A’s three and the Astros two. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Chambi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Willie Macyver. Come on. And that drops in for a strike. MacGyver goes 6’1, 28 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. That misses. And one and one. Highfly ball down the left field line. Sanchez drops into the glove and there’s one down. Now batting second base. Next up for the A’s, Max Schum. He hit into a double play his first time off. [Applause] And he drops it down the third baseline. Bare hands it. Tough play and he beats it. That’s a hit. Great try there. He was racing down the line and probably didn’t assume he was going to be safe until his foot hit the bag and looked up for the umpire. Nice bunt and great hustle to get himself a knock. So the lineup flips over now. Here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s. Lawrence Butler moved to first and he’s back safely. And that’s in for a strike. Go and one. Schuman at first. One gone. That’s a ball in the dirt. Worm Burner into the outfield for a knock. Lead runner holds at second base. First and second with one down. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Astros bullpen. Jason Alexander done for the night and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. now pitching. So, a new pitcher out of the bullpen for the Astros, Hunter Brown. He’s got a wicked breaking ball in his arsenal, and it’s definitely one of his go-to pitches when he needs an out. Two on, one out. Now, here is Brent Rooker. We need a base hit here. And that one hammered. Meyers going back. Makes the catch on the edge of the track. Runner tags at second. And he’s up to third safely with two gone. Now batting number 16. And a dangerous hitter coming to the plate. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. That misses. And that’s ball one. And that one almost got him. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count. Tyler Soderstrom in the on deck circle for the A’s. And they’re all loaded up. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. So bases all loaded up and next will be the cleanup hitter Tyler Sodro. We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap. He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots. Just miss. Two outs. Bases are full. Next pitch is outside. Pressure is on right here. Two count. Base is loaded. You don’t want to fall to a three ball count and then walk in or on. He’s got to challenge the hitter right here. Good hitters count the two swing and a miss. And he was fooled. Let’s go. [Applause] And that miss is off the outside edge. In situations like these, the air can get really thin up there at the plate. Got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down. [Applause] Inside corner for a strike. Three and two now. Got him. Huge strike out there. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. New inning getting started. Here’s the Astros leadoff man, Jose Altuve. Second base, Jose Altuve. Spence back to work. Turned on but foul wide of third. Well, these Astros, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’ve been chasing pitches outside the zone all game, and it’s led to some frustrating moments. They’ve been fooled quite a bit today. Gets it to first. One away here in the fifth. Up next for the Astros, the Here’s Carlos Koreah. He is struck out and he is walked. bring him home. Koreah, the former first overall pick from Puerto Rico back in 2012, and he blossomed into the American League Rookie of the Year in 2015. The Athletics have some bullpen action. JT Gin up and loosening in the pen. Basso, the lefty, warming up as well. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the fifth. Next pitch is downstairs. Highf fly ball right field. Cortez on his way over. Makes the grab. Two down. Now batting third base. And next to hit for Houston. Isach Paradis. Now that’s smacked to right center. Pulls it in on the run. And that’ll do it. Astros are down quietly. They’re down three-2. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Now it’s the DH Jacob Wilson and the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Not sure if he was expecting for the pitcher to come right at him, but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire way. Now the one that one ripped left field way back there in one hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. Safe at second with a leadoff double. Everything came together for him. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. runner in scoring position. No outs. And now here is Carlos Cortez and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. You know, these athletics doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game. And the numbers back that up. They’ve done a great job finding holes in the defense. Exactly half of their hits have come off the bat less than 90 mph. So, the ball isn’t exactly jumping off the lumber, but they’re finding a way to make it work. Next pitch misses. It’s a ball in two strikes. And that’s down and away. No outs. Runner on second. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strike out and there’s one away. Toughest pitch to hit. Fast ball and then the outer black. Man, sometimes you just got to tip your cap. Daryl Hernese the next to hit. Bowl for two in this one. Strike one. Wilson, the runner at second with one away. Baby, let’s go. Way out front for strike two. Cold night like tonight, last thing you want to do as a hitter is get jammed or even off the end. Trying to find that sweet spot on the bat. Tell you what, you’re going to be trying to catch things out front. So off speed pitches may be a good complement to that fast ball. That to right. Cole couple of steps in. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two down. Now batting catcher Willie Macyver. Willie Macyver will hit next. He has singled and he has flyed to left. [Applause] There’s the strike. [Music] You got this. Next offering is fouled back. Man on second, two down. That one missing inside [Applause] on the ground to third. Paradus tosses to first and the inning is over. The A’s strand one and it remains a 3-2 ball game. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher JT Gin. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So, this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Well, one-run game. So, here’s the Astros cleanup hitter, Jesus Sanchez. That one finds the zone. It’s 0 and one. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Mason Barnett appears to be getting loose. McGuff getting cranked up as well. Come on. Not close with that one. Now one and two. Spoils a two strike pitch. And he’ll see another. That one not close and it’s two and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. And that misses. And now three and two. That’s a really good take. [Music] Line drive. And this might be trouble. And now the tying run is into scoring position. Well, he really had to battle for that one. Man, that was so fun to watch. It’s a pretty good pitch down and away, but an even better job to go down there and get it while driving it to the opposite field for the base hit. Now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. And now Christian Walker one for two. And that one is inside ball one. Let’s go, baby. And that’s outside. [Applause] Let’s go. And the two-1 hammered but foul. Man at second. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. So, next up for Houston, Yiner Diaz. Listen, there’s absolutely no reason to pitch to this guy right here. You nibble, you see if he’ll expand his zone, but don’t give him anything to hit. If you walk him, not a big deal. You have a double play opportunity set up with the go ahead run at the plate. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Stop sign goes up at third. Runners at the corners with one out. All over that one right there. Everyone’s trying to elevate the ball in today’s game. But if you can hit a ball that hard on the ground, it’s going to find some holes. Tying runs now just 90 ft away. Just got to be wary of that double play though, that would strand him and in the inning. Now the batter now Jake Meyers check swing called strike at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play boo. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. Big pitch right here. He’s going to try to make a pitch that’s going to produce a strikeout or a ground ball double play. First and third one down. And now one and two. O2 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. Caught him looking for the K. Well, they were pretty much giving it to him right there. Playing the infield back. All you’re looking for on offense is a simple ground ball and you got a tie ball game. Not sure what he was thinking up there. Strike out looking is the last thing you want to see. Now you got to hope the next guy can pick you up and come through with a big two out hit. And stepping in for the Astros, Zack Cole. There’s the strike. Sanchez on third. Diaz on first with two down. Line to left. Base hit into the outfield. In comes the run from third. It’s 33. Oh, that’s a lonely feeling for an outfielder. The read wasn’t great and it really hurts when it cost your team a run. First and second, two outs. Mauricio Dubon up next for the Astros. Right through there for a strike. 01 now. That one at the knees for a strike. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. 0 and two now. The shorts stop takes the ball. And a foul ball. He stays alive. And that’s downstairs now. Two and two. This ball’s chopped on the ground. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. We’re tied now at three a piece. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Well, we go bottom six now. Here is Max Schuman. And that is in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Activity in the Houston bullpen. AJ Blue Ball, the rookie right-hander, is getting loose. Delos Santos also throwing yawan swang and a miss. Man, he was really tardy on that fast ball. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball. Add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. [Music] The two battling here as he fouls it away. A healthy cut. Tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball inside. Almost got him. Straighten him up a little bit. Come on. One, two. Now that one ripped. Meyers long run and it one hops the wall. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. A chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run. Back to the top of the lineup. Next up for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. That one’s in there. Strike one. As a pitcher, you know the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run. So, you really have to execute on the mound. Swinging a highfly ball out there towards left field. [Applause] Sanchez makes a nice running catch and the throw’s offline. safe at third. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Now, the third baseman, Brent Rooker. That clips a corner. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. And that one fouled off with a go ahead run at third here in the bottom of the six in the dirt. Wow, that’s a great job behind the dish there. [Applause] Foul ball still a one and two count and there’s a ball. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Hey, you got this. Still two and two after the foul ball. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. Let’s go the other way. Calls it in. Two away. That takes away the opportunity to score the runner from third with a sack fly. We’re talking about a different story if that line drive hits the ground. But he made a good play and they can get out of this thing with one more out. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts. [Applause] in there for strike one. [Music] Breaking ball misses down and away. Mark there and it’s two and one and that’s in for a strike. Runner at third. Two away. And a swing and a miss. That K is his third of the game. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Mason Barnett. This is his fifth appearance of the year. Here’s the former MVP, Jose Altuve. Leading off for the Astros, second base, Jose Altuve. [Music] in the first pitch misses for ball one. Barnett 24 years old and he was a third round pick in 2022. Fast ball in for a strike and it’s one and one. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. And a ball in two strikes. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. And that one is inside. swings through it and that’s a strike out. Came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Next offering in there for a strike. One ball, one strike. The 1-1 is fouled off. That one 95 to finish him off. Well, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there. And I don’t think he was taking it, thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. Paradis stands in now and watches strike one. This one in the air. That’s it. There we go. Schuman brings it in for the third out. So they go quietly there. Seventh inning stretch time. All tied up at three apiece. [Music] We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, AJ Blue Ball. And he’s been fantastic this year. really stingy in terms of allowing base runners. He’s just got great stuff that’s tough to square up. So now it’s the fourhole hitter Tyler Soderstromielder Tyler Sodrom swing and a miss. That’s strike one. And there’s a foul ball. Some real good life going through the zone on that one. Missing inside at a count one and two. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. The one two got him. looking at and the lead off intercept down to open the seventh. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. Wilson in the box with one away as he takes ball one. Come on, Athletic. Hit hard to the ground and up the middle. Base hit. So, the go-ahehead run is on base with a knock. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Next up for the A’s, Carlos Cortez. He’s already homerred in this game. And a ground ball to first. And that’s just foul. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. The 01 one ball one break on the ground to second. Might be two. There’s one. Not in time at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Daryl Hernese up next for the A’s. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Two gone. The possible go-ahead run at first. Pitch is in for a strike and a count is 0 and two. Soft contact in the air. Oh, he gloves it. And we’re back, ready to begin the eighth. And here now is the Astros cleanup hitter, Jesus Sanchez. Barnett back to work. Check swing and he went. That’s strike one. There’s the strike at the knees. Movement in the bullpen. Barry Girardano, the lefty with big swing and missed stuff, is getting ready. McGuff also getting ready. One ball, two inside. And that’s ball two. And that’s in the dirt. Christian Walker in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That’s hard hit on the line. Fair ball in safely with a leadoff double. Go ahead runs in scoring position. Having himself a really nice game at the plate. Nice line drive to the pull side. met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. Now a huge at bat in this game coming up. Christian Walker up next for the Astros. One for three. First pitch and he just misses. And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] And a count one and two. Well, if he’s going to do something special right here, it’s going to have to happen with two strikes. Punch him out. Pitch misses inside and the count’s even at two. Now one miss. Yer Diaz in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Go ahead run in scoring position. Nobody out. and ball four to a board. Well, they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second, they’ve set up a double play opportunity. So, not a terrible result. So, a change being made at first base. Pinch running here. Jeremy Pñena. So, the go-ahead run is into scoring position. Here’s the catcher, Yiner Diaz. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. That’s inside. Go ahead run at second and we’re in the top of the eighth. on the ground right side down the line and it’s foul and now the count is even. Man, oh man, I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. and foul ball. No outs. Runners at first and second. [Music] [Applause] This one high in the air to left center. Sodstrom on the move to the gap. Makes the grab. Runner tags at second and he moves up 90 ft. Runners at the corners now. One away. Now batting the center fielder Jake Myers. Now we’ve got a substitution at third base. Coming in as the pinch runner, Cam Smith. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly. Meyers the next to hit takes ball one. Well, this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter. You can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations. And fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Hard liner squeezes it. Here comes the runner from third. A big run scores on the sack fly. They lead it in the eighth. Good piece of hitting right there. He’s thinking off the bat that’s getting down for extra bases, but nice job of the outfielder running it down, making the catch. Still comes away with the sack fly though. RBI, Cole in the box here. lets that one go for a ball. Tried to back door him with that slider right there, but just missed off the plate. Good pitch, though. Sliced hard, but foul. Back and forth we go. A seessaw battle in the late stages of this one. falling behind. Two and one. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. Up next for the Astros. Short stop. And next to hit for Houston, Mauricio Dubon. 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Pñena the lead runner at second. Cole at first. Two out of the inning. Little chopper rolls foul. Here’s [Music] [Applause] the O2. Hit in the air left field and that’s the third out. One run in the inning, but they leave two. Last half of the eighth coming up. It’s the Astros four and the A’s three. Victor Keratini getting loose there. He’s now in the game at first. Willie Macyver now at the plate. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. Swing and a miss. Activity in the bullpen. Brian Abrau, a right-hander with big strikeout stuff, is getting it fired up. And a big swing and a miss. Two strike. Looking to get the tying run on base. Up and in. One and two to count and a swing and a miss. One out. Pretty big strike out right there to start this eighth inning. Down one. Any leadoff base runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting. But now this offense has to switch from possibly trying to manufacture a run to needing to run into something or just try to string multiple hits together to get a run across the plate. So up next, Max Schuman breaking ball inside and it’s one and0. Trying to hold a one-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Swings through that one out in front that time. Next offering is down low. Gets a piece and stays alive. keeps the attack going with a foul ball. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Good pitch right there. I mean, he’s attacking a location that this guy at the plate tends to have trouble with. And there’s just so much information in this day and age. Sometimes too much information. But the guys that can take that information, process it, and then go out there, boo, and execute the pitch, go right after that hitter, and get the result that they were anticipating. That’s really good pitching right there. And it’s a good job of the pitcher and the catcher working together. Brian King gets the call from the pen. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. That pitch in for a strike. 0 and one. Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen popped up. Dubong makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. Nothing doing there for the A’s. Still down a run. It’s 4-3. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Scott McGuff. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Back to the top of the order now. Here’s the Astros leadoff man. Jose Altuve. 0 for three in this one. outside one and0. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Number 58, the hardth throwing righty is up and loosening. Sterner warming up as well. And a swing and a miss there. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] Let’s go. Laser could be trouble. Around first and hustling for second. The throw in and he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch. And that’s how you do it. Now, here’s the Astros designated hitter, Carlos Koreah, and that’s him for a strike. [Applause] Next one misses and the count even one and one. Man at second. And that’s him for a strike. One and two. swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. Well, that splitter out of the hand, it just sort of jumps on you and your interpretation is here comes a fast ball again. Well, it never really reaches because the bottom falls out of it and you swing over the top and that’s why they call it a split finger fast ball because it looks like a four seamer. Here’s the third baseman. He’s looks like they want to set up the double play. Intentional walk will make it first and second with one gone. Now batter number 11. Here’s the left fielder Cam Smith. Entered as a pinch runner. So this is his first plate appearance and it comes here in the ninth. Fast ball for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Two on, one out. Gets the call. No balls, two strikes. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. Explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. Ball one there. Slider squirts away. Both runners move up on the wild pitch and the double play is no longer in order. With two on and one out, you’re just hoping you can get a double play ball to get yourself out of the inning. But now you’ve really got some work to do. Need a big strike out here. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Big strike out right there and that kind of takes the pressure off the defense a bit. Infield was in. So now they can move back, give themselves more time on a grounder to make a play. A lot more ways to work out of this and strand that runner at third. Now Vic Keratini at the plate that clips a corner. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. Next offering misses and now it’s even one and one swing and a ball popped up. Hern sizing this one up and that is that. So it’s no runs on a hit, no errors and two are left. 234 set to hit in the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Astros four and the A’s three back now and on the mound the closer Brian Abrau and we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy man and one of the better ones in the game. I’d say spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. So digging in Brent Rooker. A lot of times you’re looking for a guy to get that tying run on base, but because of the power, you want him to tie up the game with one swing here. First pitch misses. [Applause] One-run game. Bottom nine. Hard hit left side. Come on. Come on. Not in time. An infield knock to start the inning. It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. So, an infield single does the job right there. Now, we’ll see if they can make something happen. No outs. Runner at first. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter, trying to close out a one-run lead. There the home team trying to pull it out. Comes up empty with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Swing and a miss. 98 mph on the gun. Dominating strike out there on just three pitches. And that’s what a good power pitcher can do to you. If he’s hitting his spots, filling up the strike zone, sometimes he bats over before it really begins. He’s two outs away now. The left fielder Tyler Sodstrom and that is out of play. [Applause] Yeah, that’s fouled off. tying run at first. The winning run at the plate. Oh, he hit him. And that got him pretty flush. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. And there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd, right? I mean, yeah, I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball one. Just missed. really been able to slow down the game tonight with his at bats and the biggest one he’s had so far. He doesn’t look anxious at all. Next pitch is outside. [Applause] So, the tying run at second and that one clips the corner. [Applause] Breaks his bat and pops it up. Pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there are two outs. Now batting right fielder Carlos Cortez. So it’s their last chance in this one and now the right fielder Carlos Cortez down to their final out but an opportunity to deliver the tying and maybe even a winning run. That’s a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit. And ball one swing and a high-fly ball. That one out towards left center field way back there. Wow. Ball game. Another homer and the A’s walk it off for the win. [Applause] Hitting a walk-off homer is the kind of thing you dream about growing up. You’re in the backyard, you’re creating the most pressure-p packed scenario, and what do you do? You come through with the big swing. Well, he was living a childhood moment right there. Nice swing of the bat. Nice win for the team. And this one ends with a final score of six to four. The A’s hang on to win it. For Chris Singleton and our entire crew, I’m John Shi saying so long.

Ya estuvo k hoy pierden con ese lanzador 😢y joe k no hace nada teniendo otros buenos 🙏🇺🇸
Still can't grasp that we could not win one home game while starting Brown,Framber, and Alexander. If we just win one we're fine. Its hard to be optimistic.
