Minnesota Vikings News Dump (9.23.2025) | Donovan Has Surgery, Rodgers PERFECT, Addison Back!

[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? Indeed, beautiful Tuesday. Birds are chirping and stuff, and it’s time for another Vikings news dump. So, uh, actually, actually, uh, some not so great news. Uh, but it it really speaks to how much of a badass Donovan Jackson is. Kevin Seafford, ESPN, who is not Carl Gersmet. Vikings rookie left guard Donovan Jackson had surgery on his wrist today on Monday uh, in Los Angeles. per Kevin McConnell suffered the injury in week two but played with it in week three expected back on the field after the week seven buy was on the injury report last week and was limited in two practices. So basically Donovan Jackson with an injured wrist injured so badly that it required surgery was still out here just pancaking dudes really opening up the run game. Him and Deros looking good on that left side. It’s great. And what it was like yeah obviously they they won’t um they won’t screw down on the uh on the injury. It’ll be like wrist right but probably what is I mean wrist you’re always thinking ligaments right? So, he he played on Sunday against the Bengals because the medical staff deemed that he couldn’t injure it further. So, probably just a clean tear of a ligament. And now, uh Kevin McConnell has said that they’re going to give Jackson a couple of weeks off. Ideally, they’re going to target after the by-week, week seven, against the Philadelphia Eagles for him to return. Uh he is going to be going on the European trip. The only two players uh in the Viking sphere not going to be making the trip are tight end Gavin Bartholomew as well as running back Ty Chandler, both on IR. Uh so also that means that CJ Ham could return for the Browns. That’d be great. Uh so Jackson, I mean it just speaks to how much of a badass he is. And I I understand it. It’s really disappointing, especially since Jackson’s had a really nice start to his career. But it it’s something where you want to get it cleaned up throughout the season uh right now uh before the stretch run late in the year and into the playoffs because I mean with Jackson, this is probably something that he would have just played with, you know, and Kevin McConnell mentioned, you know, saving players from themselves. Uh so having Jackson get the surgery, he got the by-week as well as international trip and make sure that he’s good to go for the rest of the way, it’s going to be good. Also, Kevin mentioned that Blake Brle, mama, I’m too hard to Brandle now, will be filling in at left guard. Uh, so Brle, uh, who also spelled Christian Darosa at left tackle as planned in the Bengals game. Uh, very valuable backup, can back up four spots. Uh, he was a starting left guard last year before the Vikings drafted Jackson. So, I think it’s smart. And also, Brle, remember, fared well when Darasaw was uh, in the lineup last year, not so much afterwards. Yeah. Yeah. Good to go. Also something that’s fantastic is Margaret Rockco walkathon going on at their respective elementary schools. Uh so through October 15th all Venmo’s cash apps uh will be donated to the school fundraiser. Guys have been crushing so far as they crushed all previous years. And we’re we’re coming for that sticker book or whatever they’re awarding for first place. Here’s the thing. Like adults we’ll see that prize and be like whatever. Except for the kids will be like oh it’s the holy grail. I don’t understand it. Anyways, uh thank you very much Jeromes for contributing uh as well as kicking ass year in year out. Also, something I do know is Isaiah Rogers Rogers was a fantastic free agent sign for the Vikings. Uh he’s averaging 5.5 million per year. Absolute steal and the only Rogers the Vikings should have signed this off season. Perfect PFF grade. all the haters and the losers and the analytics people were were just like, “Oh, two defensive scores, uh, 85 yards and 65 yards, and as well as two force fumbles, and also you only allowed, uh, one target, zero catches, one endzone PBU against Jamar Chase T. Higgins, allegedly the best wide receiver during the game. Please, we have the wide receiver deal in the game. Isaiah Rogers practices against him every single day.” Woo! That’s right. Uh, and a 2.8 a quarterback rating when throwing at PF was like ah I’m actually surprised because PFF would have gotten way more clout if they would have gave Rogers like a 74 but 99.9 perfect score because you 100 is not possible and it’s the highest grade that they’ve ever given out so it’s amazing and also the fact that he did pretty much all of his work in the first half it’s kind of crazy man kind of crazy also Rogers this season Uh, Vik Vampage, a 90.9 PFF grade, highest among quarterbacks, which is which is good. Uh, five receptions allowed on 12 targets, 48 receiving yards, zero touchdowns, 18.8 quarterback pass rating. Now, this always gets brought up. This is like the dad joke uh of quarterback ratings. Whenever uh someone’s quarterback rating is low, they’re like, “Oh, you get 39.6 for throwing it straight into the ground.” So, you get 39.6 for throwing the ball straight into the ground. and also two total touchdowns, which I think Rogers definitely thrown his hat in the ring for defensive player of the year. It’s going to be good to go, right? Also, I cannot wait. Honestly, I want an injection in my veins where Rogers picks off and takes the house a A-on Rogers. Isaiah Rogers picks six off of uh Aon Rogers Sunday morning over in Dublin at the cricket stadium. It’s going to be great, man. It’s going to be great. And also, future quarterback wise, so Carson Wentz, Kevin McConnell, head coach confirmed, is going to be starting Sunday against the Steelers. But what about after that? What about the Browns? What about after the buy week seven against Philadelphia? Of course, the Carson Wentz storylines will be immaculate. Uh, but Kevin Seafford, ESPN, who’s not Carl Gman. Uh, Kevin O’Connell on if he’s 100% committed to playing JJ McCarthy when he’s healthy. That doesn’t require an answer uh on that question day. So, a little bit of context. Initially he said, “Yeah, JJ McCarthy is getting his job back.” But so I I think initially he he gave the honest answer because he he had to know that it was coming. Like he had to have been prepped for that question. Uh but then he went into coach speed and hedged a little bit. I I think absent Carson Wentz just absolutely destroying things. I I think that the Vikings will go back to JJ McCarthy because honestly you could be like, “Oh, but he was so bad for seven quarters out of eight.” You haven’t seen McCarthy without Darasaw and part and parcel without a solid run game without solid protection and also we haven’t seen McCarthy without with Addison yet who obviously had great chemistry within the preseason. So, uh love and respect what Carson Wentz has done his his childhood team. It’s fantastic. But I I I still think absent some sort of linanity type run from Wentz, I I think they go back to McCarthy eventually when he’s writing. Also, after the like you would think that, oh, JJ McCarthy is mad because Carson Wentz is taking his job now. JJ McCarthy wants to win and whatever role he can play, whether it’s QB1, whether it’s quarterback on the sideline, giving some good feedback, asking some good questions, that’s what you got to do. All right. And also, uh, Ryan Griggsson in the background looking like Jack Black from Minecraft. No one knows I ruined Andrew Luck. We all do, bro. And who traded a first round pick for Richardson. Also, tangent time. So, I just caught a p I just caught a glance of myself in the in the side camera. I look pretty good. You know what I mean? And now I I understand that I I’m a narcissistic sociopath, but I’m a self-aware narcissist narcissistic sociopath, right? But so, I’ve noticed something. Uh, so we were picking up some some pad thai. And the the old Asian lady was like, “Oh, your daughter’s so beautiful. Is she half as in half Asian?” which is kind of fair, but but I don’t know what this has to do with Dallas Turner, but I I feel like I’ve gotten $240,000 worth of market research, and I I I finally come to a conclusion. Older Asian women are always very nice to me because I am their version of the American dream. Like, they want their sons to be me. I don’t know why, right? But so English it’s pretty good. My Spanish is better than my Korean. But uh but so well spoken, handsome, successful, uh verbose and lquacious. I don’t know. I feel I feel like um advanced degrees. I feel like I feel like I am their American dream, so that’s why they’re nice to me. Or maybe I’m I’m just handsome and funny. I don’t know. It’s one of the two or 0 for two, I don’t know. Anyways, uh Dallas Turner. Uh so Pete Bersich, Dallas Turner played uh his best game yet on Sunday. Yes, diamond Dallas Turner. I I I know people look at the box score, oh he won tackle, he didn’t have any sacks. And we’ve talked about this ad nauseium and we just need to repeat ourselves again. There’s a lot of puck luck when it comes to sacks. Like God bless him, Andrew Vaninkl. He only played eight snaps. He had two sacks. So if you look at the boxer be like, “Oh, and Van Genko dominant again.” Except then you watch both of the sacks and obviously he he was in the right place at the right time. That takes skill. But the first sack was kind of Gernard. The second sack was kind of uh LDR LDR. And I mean AVG push him out of bounds. All right. So not all sacks are created equal. We’re about pressures. We’re about pressure rate. How often are you moving the quarterback off the spot? Diamond Alice Turner led the Vikings in pressures on Sunday with five ahead of Jonathan Gernard with four ahead of Levi Drake Rodriguez with four. So the Vikings pass horse was hilacious on the Bengals and Diamond Dallas Turner led the way and just eyeball tests, you know, before the analytics came out, you could just tell that 15 was in the back field and wreaking havoc. Also, he was holding up against the edge, which a lot of people did not do against the Falcons. It is what it is. But even though it literally one tackle, zero sacks, zero whatever, it was Dallas Turner’s best game as a Viking and it honestly was and it’s something that I mean Flores has got to be pretty psyched about. Uh the entire defense has to be pretty psyched about and sacks are coming, right? because it’s pressures is like at bats like where you can have one at bat and hit a grand slam and that’s fantastic but the more at bats you have the better chance you have of hitting a home run and pressures equal at bats and I got to tell you Dallas Turner is having a lot of played appearances this year it’s going to be really really good man and plus having Gard Turner and AVG out there on the field it’s going to be good to go also good to go hopefully Ryan Kelly will be back Emily Ler Tribune uh KO Kevin McConnell says he’s optimistic about both center Ryan Kelly left tackle Justin’s school clearing concussion protocol this week and being available Sunday in Dublin. Now I I understand everything about Justin school. It’s one of the reasons why we don’t really have a clear picture of what Jay McCarthy is doing but as depth important especially with with Jackson out and you know Ryan Kelly having him back even though I thought Jurgens played well instead. They did dig him for one pressure, one sack, but eh uh you know, but Kelly back calling out protections, getting things in order, and we’re getting close to having the starting offensive line out there maybe by week seven. Hopefully, ideally, it’ll be good. But yeah, Kelly, especially with his history of concussions, hopefully he clears and is good to go. So, there you go. Also, Bivia Kalpa. So, last week we bitched and moaned about Hawinson not stepping up. He had two drops against the Falcons. One of the drops almost ended up with an interception to our guy Billy Bowman as well as he missed a couple blocks and week one he was good blocking but finally busted out great blocking in the run game. Uh great catch in the bow for Carson Wentz got in the end zone too. So 87 oh thank heaven plus you know it’s really going to help out a Hawinson in the middle of the field and also Jefferson on one side Jordan Addison Jordan friaking Addison returning man Dave Misatani Pioneer Press my countryman Jordan Addison was officially reinstated this afternoon as a part of the process of Vikings had a brief roster exemp exemption which will expire in a couple days that means the Vikings must take a correspond make a corresponding roster move by Wednesday you probably what is going to happen is that they’ll I don’t know, put Tim Jones back on the practice squad. I’m sure that’s what what’s going to be up. But also, I mean, the Vikings will still have, you know, six receivers in the sphere. And frankly, we need to have a honest conversation about Adam Thelen. I mean, Adam Thelen and I combined for zero catches on Sunday. You know, had that drop late in the game from Brosmer. Also, the fact that the was in the game that late, I don’t know. Uh Will Raget Sports say those right Kevin Okonnell the way I look at it with Addison back we really have four starters at that receiver position will use those guys accordingly and try to keep people fresh. Will be interesting to see who plays more snaps between Jaylen Naylor and Adam Thelen. So right now I think that Jaylen Naylor who’s quietly been really consistent and really solid through three games. I I think that he deserves more snaps at Amilen right now. Right. So I I think that the top three receivers should be Jefferson, Addison, and Naylor. And I know you traded for The Thelen. I know that it’s a great story, but if you took the names off the jerseys, like Naylor is playing better than The Thelen right now. Plus, Naylor Naylor plays special teams. So, I guess we’ll see. Uh, but now we finally get to see what this entire receiving court could look like. Addison off suspension. Also, you know that he’s hungry because his guarantees got stripped from his rookie deal. Plus, he’s eligible for a contract extension after this year. So, absolutely, he’s going to get it, man. Speaking of getting it, the defensive line where again all everyone in Bali Hood, Allen, Hargrave, yes, but Redmond, LDR, T looking really damn good, man. Really fantastic. A stat account, interior defensive line, pass rush through week three, excluding Monday Night Football, true passes only. So basically, top right quadrant is where you want to be. All right, all these, you know, scatter plots, basically that’s what it is. Top right is good. Bottom left is bad. And oh lookie lookie. Here comes Hookie. Uh who’s up there in the top corner? And just eyeball test wise 61 is certainly getting it done. LDR is hellacious against the run and getting pressures. It’s just it’s just great, man. Just feels good. Also, so the latest Teles Metalus is about conspiracy theories and a lot of them are fake moon landing. Tupac’s still alive. The ocean doesn’t exist or they’re keeping secrets down there. Also, a a surprising amount of players think that the earth is flat, including Isaiah Rogers, hero of Sunday. So, 70% of the flat earth is covered by water and the rest of the flat earth is covered by Isaiah Rogers. So, I don’t know. Also, Matelis thinks that the earth might be flat, too. So, you just see like the the chancellor or president of University of Michigan just going like I hail to the I don’t know. I I I do believe so. A lot of them don’t think that we went to the moon. If we really didn’t go to the moon, you think someone was squealled by now, right? because there had to be a lot of people involved, a lot of moving parts, and not that many people can keep a secret for this long. You know what I mean? So, I actually think that we went to the moon. I think that we haven’t been to the moon again because I don’t know, it costs a lot. Plus, we beat the Russ literally owning the Russians was the only part of it. Plus, if if United States faked the moon landing, wouldn’t Russia like be very quick to point that out? They got spies at all levels of government or they did. They might still. I know. Plus, did the Russians fake their their space stuff? Did Yuri Gagarin just like, “Oh, what? We we are in Kazakhstan. We are we on outer space.” Or didn’t they send a dog up there? Anyways, I don’t know what we accomplished. Anyways, you guys are the best.   6. I was at the game on Sunday and I can confirm, the D line was beyond dominant. It seemed every single play the pocket immediately collapsed and Browning was being forced to move.
