Pirates vs. Reds Game Highlights (9/23/25) | MLB Highlights
Here we are. You play six months, 156 games and it comes down to a six game season basically. But the Cincinnati Reds control the outcome across the six games as we start this series against Pittsburgh here tonight. I mean, the Reds are literally is who is on top of this thing. The number 39 of Dave Parker etched in the outfield grass sam. But everyone here locked in on a playoff chase for the home team that has been long overdue. Well, Brady Singer has been really good all, all year long. Last time out against Saint Louis, he kind of broke a streak of six quality starts. But on the year 14 career high winds, he’s been fantastic. He’s been the guy out there and I really truly believe his success has been all predicated on his ability to throw that sinker into the left handed hitters to set up that fastball or that breaking ball away, swing and a miss, he struck him out. I think everybody in the ballpark knew a fastball was coming there. Reynolds the first pirate to reach a two out runner. Last time the Reds saw the Pirates. Horwitz had a big series jammed , popped up, left side. Trevino foul ground to the pirate dugout. So singer works around the two out hit by pitch and we go to the bottom of the first. It’s the Pirates, nothing reds coming up. And Johan Oviedo takes him out for the Pirates making his eighth start two and the 352, a nice opponent average against at 189. How about that come back? That’s beautiful. And Then after the fastball at the top of the zone, drop a curve ball and right at the bottom or just below the strike zone, that fastball sure is playing. And if they swing and miss and they’re late on the fastball, why go with anything else? Here’s a 11 swing and a high fly ball to that short right field on the warning track with room. He’ll make the catch just in front of it. It’s a 123 1st for Oviedo and the Pirates against the Reds will bring up a powerful but very flawed hitter in Jackins. He is legit pop. The Reds have witnessed it first hand you make a mistake, he could hit it in the Ohio. Here’s a 22 swinging a ball to left center field. This is going to get down and that’s going to be extra bases for Soins banging off that wall , some good swings in that a series. And Soins starts off this series with a double scoring position for nick Yorke whose lone homer this year came Saturday against the athletics and now a guy who’s just been swinging the bat as well as anybody over the past week or so. Nick York shoots it up the middle to get the Pirates a one nothing lead pretty quiet ball game so far. Then two pitches in a row. Boom, boom, double single Pirates have one nothing. Alexander Canario is in there rips this down the line in left field. Extra base is for Canario York going to be waved home and Canario makes it two to nothing. Pretty good contact. Back to back to back here against Brady singer from these Pirates hitters. And it started with the double by soins to the left center field gap on two nothing pirates. Here’s o’neil Cruz struck out in the first that’s hit hard to left field to the wall and clear the deck opposite cannonball coming. The Pirates take a four nothing lead. Oil. Cruz hits his 20th home run of the season and his first since August 30th. What is it right now? That is giving singer such a tough time getting behind in the count. Number one behind in the count pitching. Put some trouble on the four pitch walk to Spencer Steer boy. That’s exactly what the reds love to see right after the Pirates score four times. He was thrust out of the order on Monday of last week since he was moved down, he’s hit 263 with it on base in the 46 right by Taylor Cruz and he looked right to the dugout. I wonder if he called that. That is some kind of big momentum lifter for the Reds, especially after the Pirates dropped four in the top of the inning. That will get you back on your feet. Ellie’s second home run in his last four games. Nick York followed the Soins double with an RB I single to center field over the leaping shortstop de La Cruz and York with a one out single to left. He’s two for two today. Broken bat past the bare hand try. Mclean hits the inning, double play works out in the from one second worried that he’s to get into some serious trouble. Next thing you know, he’s out of the inning, no harm, no foul payoff pitch to steer is blown away. He walks for the second time in history repeat with spencer Steer standing at first base after a walk and Laz come to the plate cracked a base hit, steer shuts it down at second. Respecting the talented cannon of o’neill Cruz and Dacruz has a two hit night Reds have two on. So now two reds who can run that mclean stands in one and two runners leading in the pitch swing and a miss struck him out for a slider just off the plate away and mclean strikes out for a second time tonight. Five strikeouts for Oviedo Will Benson grounded out to short his first time driven to LA Sowinski racing corner dives. Oh, wow, foul side, a sensational snare by Sowinski and he ends the inning. The Reds challenge. The ruling of a catch. It’s under review right now in New York and Sonsy leaves his feet lays out. And if indeed, that is a catch. That is remarkable. Was it trapped? Did it hit the dirt at any point? That’s a risky move. You call on the field is overturned. There’s no giant challenge. We’re still here in the fourth inning. So Cruz goes back to first steer goes back to second and Benson’s coming back to the plate delivers the 12 pitch swing and a miss struck him out with a fastball at 98 over the outside corner bell high and the inning is over. The Reds threaten here in the fourth, come up empty. Fried works a two out walk. Don Kelly is out there and Oviedo is really unhappy. I tell you what you scream at the manager. That’s the last time you’re out there on the mound. Oviedo will leave the mound with a runner on at first base and two outs. Old friend do Barreta enters man on two down one and it bounces away from Flores up the first base line. He’ll throw to second and out trying to advance. Friedel is thrown out on a good throw by Rafael Flores and that gets him out of the inning. Moretta doesn’t have to retire a batter that’s still four to two. Pirates do is on with a one out single which brings up spencer Steer to short kicks on Gonzalez shovel in time. That’s all they force out on Duar as he stays with the play to win. That ball actually bounced a good ways away from Gonzalez, but he was able to recover quickly and still get it out. And here comes Ellie again with steer on at first base driven right, steer through second. Canario stumbles some recovers. Another hit for all de La Cruz. He is three for three. The time runs around the go ahead run comes to the blue and mostly started Matt mclean about to stand in. He has struck out twice tonight. He’s got to looking and swinging , swinging a ground ball right to the shortstop. Gonzalez fields feeds York at second, forcing out de La Cruz. Another Reds threat comes up empty here in the sixth. Triolo is into second base with a leadoff double here in the Pirates eighth inning Reds. Can I afford for this pirate lead to get any bigger here? Sail to left Stewart de La Cruz Benson. All give a look, Stewart tight to the side. Mo makes the catch nice play by the rookie and Stewart able to make the catch with Ellie coming sliding in behind him. Nice play by the kid Sal Stewart. He showed some agility there. Two pitch swing and a miss struck him out cutter down and in, off the plate that cutter in , on the hands of those lefties can’t take it lifted, left side. Cruz out Benson in Benson, the curve call. So Ashcraft does a nice job to work around trio’s leadoff double and now it’s Dennis Santana’s turn 66 innings and 66 games. 218. a and that is out number one and a strike Ellie is on for the fourth time tonight and here’s mclean and I can tell you this, tommy from experience when you’re on the field and you’ve got the crowd behind you. There’s a little extra pep in your step, a little more jump ground ball third. There is one on the first and raise the Jolly Roger. The Pirates defeat the Reds as the Reds stumble in the opener of this series situation where you have Destiny in your own control. You got to go out there and win ball games.

If the Reds don't get rid of Matt McLain, their front office has no idea what they are doing. He's an absolute liability. But then again, nobody on the Reds actually seems like they want to play in the post season.
I canβt believe they overturned that catch smh
Wow we really blew this chance. With the Mets now up 1 game now, Paul Skeenes is up tomorrow. What a sparse crowd today.
That challenge was totally bogus. You can see it land squarely in his glove.
Reds sweep the Cubs and then lose to the last place Pirates LOL π π π
Matt McLain is either a Strike out or a Double play. Why is he still in the lineup . That guy cant hit a Coconut with a tennis racket.
tough loss for the Reds. They still have five games left
